Floyd Morris
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Floyd Morris, 94, of Uriah died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 at his home.
Morris was a lifelong resident of Uriah and was a farmer most all of his life. He was a member of Mineola Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Morris and a son, Floyd Morris Jr.
Survivors include two sons, John (Inez) Morris of Uriah and Roy (Barbara) Morris of Branson, Mo.; one daughter, Diane (Al) Brooks of Uriah; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were held Thursday, Jan. 15 at 4 p.m. in the Mineola Baptist Church with Rev. Marlin Brown officiating. Burial followed in Mineola Cemetery.

Emily G. Rowell
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Emily G. Rowell, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 17 2009 in Monroeville.
Rowell was a native and lifelong resident of Monroe County. She was a member of Eureka Baptist Church and retired from Vanity Fair after 45 years as a seamstress.
Survivors include a brother, Clay (Olivia) Rowell of Franklin.
Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. in the Eureka Baptist Church in Franklin with Rev. Scott Allen, Tom Lindsey and Rev. Mark Harbison officiating. Burial followed in Bryant Cemetery in Franklin.

Sam D. Aiken
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Sam D. Aiken, 86, of Monroeville died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009 at Monroe County Hospital.
Aiken was a native of Gainesville and had resided in Monroeville most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had worked for the Human Resources Department for the State of Alabama. He was a member of the Monroeville First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Aiken.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Aiken of Monroeville; two sons, Jamie Aiken of Birmingham and Johnny Aiken of Wetumpka; and one brother, James Aiken of Birmingham.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Monroeville First Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Miller and Rev. Glenn Eubanks officiating. Burial will follow in Pineville Cemetery.

James Stanley Cook
Cope Funeral Home, Evergreen
James Stanley Cook, 82, of Evergreen died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 at his home.
Cook was born in Lyeffion. He was a dairy farmer. In 1971 the Cooks were named Farmers Home Administration District VII Family of the Year. He served as president of the Conecuh County Dairy Association, chairman of the Alabama Farm Bureau Dairy Division, member of the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board, director of the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, vice president of the American Dairy Association of Alabama, member of the Bay Minette Production Credit Association and member of the Union Bank board of directors. He was named to the Alabama Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2005. He also served as chairman of the official boards of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church for 44 years.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Cook.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Cook of Evergreen; and a son, John Cook of Evergreen.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Calvin Levon “NayNay” Dailey Jr.
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
Calvin Levon “NayNay” Dailey Jr., 24, of Huntsville died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville.
Dailey was a native of Burnt Corn and had lived in Monroe County most of his life. He was a 2002 graduate of Monroe County High School. He also attended Ed Reid Technical College in Evergreen and J.F. Drake Technical College in Huntsville. He was a powered industrial truck driver at CinRam Industries in Huntsville and was employed at Georgia Pacific in Monroeville prior to moving to Huntsville. He was a member of Antioch #1 Baptist Church of Tunnel Springs where he was a youth usher and a member of the youth choir.
Survivors include his parents, Calvin and Jacqueline Dailey of Burnt Corn; his grandmother, Delois Dailey of Burnt Corn; his great-grandmother, Fannie Lou Rankins of Burnt Corn; and a sister, Deneidra Dailey of Huntsville.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. at Antioch #1 Baptist Church of Tunnel Springs with Rev. Whalen Oliver officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

William David Dumas
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
William David Dumas, 84, of Frisco City died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile.
Dumas was born in Marengo County. He was a former resident of Coy and Camden and had lived in Monroe County for the past few months. He worked for the State of Alabama Highway Department as an engineer. He was a member of the Baptist Church of Camden.
He was preceded in death by wives, Grace Sheffield Dumas and Gertrude Naylor Dumas; his twin brother, James Steverson Dumas; and his son, David Darden Dumas.
Survivors include three sons, Ruben Steverson Dumas of Greenhill, William Parker Dumas of Frisco City and James Paul Dumas of Mobile; three daughters, Nora Donaldson and Ann Youngblood, both of Monticello, Ark. and Grace Pauline Daniels of Valley Glenn; two step-daughters, Annie Laura Powell of Alberta and Marion McGehee of Boligee; two brothers, Oscar Dumas of Bay Minette and Frederick Parker Dumas of Theodore; 1 sister, Nora Louise Harvell of Camden; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Collins and Rev. Tommy Primm officiating. Burial followed in Coy Cemetery in Coy.

Elmore “Moochie” Gibbs Jr.
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Elmore “Moochie” Gibbs Jr., 77, of Monroeville died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at his home.
Gibbs is a native and lifelong resident of Monroe County. He was a mechanic with Hendrix Tractor Company in Frisco City from 1958 to 2004. He was a member of Pilgrim Rest Church.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Gibbs and Cecil Gibbs, both of Monroeville; five daughters, Edna Stallworth and Mattie Stallworth, both of Monroeville, Barbara Reynolds of Atmore, Shirley Gibbs of Pensacola, Fla. and Dorothy Gibbs; one brother, Marshall Gibbs Sr. of Monroeville; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. at Unity and Charity Church of Excel with Rev. Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Alice Louise Hall
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Alice Louise Hall, 82, of Goodway died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2008 at Springhill Senior Residence of Mobile.
Hall was born in Louisiana and had lived in the Goodway area since Aug. 1969. She was a member of Little River Holiness Church. She had retired from the Monroe County Board of Education as a lunchroom attendant at J.U. Blacksher High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Stephens Hall.
Survivors include one son. Steve (Angela) Burton of Saraland; one daughter, Ginger (Leo) Werner of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, James Johnston of Alexander City; one sister, Sue Harding of Covina, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in Columbus at a later date.

Euline Elizabeth Stacey Kelly
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Euline Elizabeth Stacey Kelly, 80, of Excel died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at her home.
Kelly was a native of Monroeville and had resided in Excel most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Excel Nazarene Church.
Survivors include one son, Randy (Rose Marie) Kelly of Excel; two daughters, Sheila (Glennon) Russell of Milton and Nancy (John) Newton of Monroeville; four brothers, Oneal Stacey of Frisco City, Coy Stacey of Excel, Gerrald Stacey of Atmore and Douglas Stacey of Daphne; three sisters, Juanita English of Atmore and Carrlie Ann Powell and Beverly Marrow, both of Excel; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Excel Nazarene Church. Burial followed in Excel Cemetery in Excel.

Dorothy Marie King
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Dorothy Marie King, 80, of Frisco City died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009 at D.W. McMillan Hospital in Brewton.
King was born in Mansfield, Ohio and had lived in Frisco City for several years. She was a member of Warner Robins Baptist Church and had worked as a civilian employee with the Air Force base in Warner Brothers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otha King.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Feb. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Frisco City with Rev. Mark McCullough officiating.

Melissa Sue Dyess
Flomaton Brown Service Funeral Home, Flomaton
Melissa Sue Dyess, 93, of Flomaton died Sunday, March 22, 2009 in Flomaton.
Dyess was born in Belleville and had been a resident of Flomaton since 1944 coming from Repton. She was a member of Owens Chapel Methodist Church in Bermuda, which was started by her family.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Bob Dyess and Wendell Dyess; and her daughter, Susan Dyess.
Survivors include three sons, Wayne (Betty) Dyess of Jay, Fla., Ray Dyess of Flomaton and Carl Dyess of Friendswood, Texas; three daughters, Mable Golden of Pensacola, Fla., Shelby (Bill) Spears of Flomaton and Bettie Sue (Wayland) Nowling of Jay; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were held Tuesday, March 24 at 2 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Gandy officiating. Burial followed in Poplar Dell Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
