Otha Roberson
Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, Atmore
Otha Roberson, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010 at a local hospital.
Roberson was a native of Moyeville, a former resident of San Jose, Calif. and a resident of Mexia for the past two years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam, and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 26 years. He attended Moyeville Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Masami Roberson.
Survivors include two sons, Keith Roberson of Mexia and Ricky (Cheryl) Roberson of Ft. Eustis, Va.; a stepdaughter, Yoonhee (Seongki) Mun of McLean, Va.; a sister, Katherine (Sylvester) Wiggins of Goodway; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 7 from 1 p.m. until funeral time at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Services will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Knowles officiating.
Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery

Louise Shedrone
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
Louise Shedrone, 72, of Port Arthur, Texas died Dec. 26, 2009 at her home,
Shedrone was a native of Monroeville and lived most of her life in Monroe County. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Rev. Charlie Shedrone of Monroeville and Ray Shedrone of Port Arthur; one daughter, Patricia Shedrone of Monroeville; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. at Penn’s Funeral Home chapel with Rev. W.E. Hill officiating.

John Lee Welch
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
John Lee Welch, 73, of Monroeville died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at Atmore Community Hospital in Atmore.
Welch was a native of Lower Peachtree and lived in Monroe County most of his life. He was a member of Limestone Baptist Church of Monroeville.
Survivors include one sister, Lillie Mae Simmons of Pensacola, Fla.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Penn’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. at Limestone Baptist Church in Monroeville with Rev. Michael Horn. Burial will follow in Limestone Baptist Church Cemetery.

Joshua “Soldier Boy” Brown
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
Joshua “Soldier Boy” Brown, 72, of Monroeville died Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.
Brown was a native of Monroeville and lived most of his life in Monroe County. He retired from the Monroeville Waste Department after working 25 years.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny Mac Brown and Willie James Brown, both of Monroeville; five daughters, Louise Brown, Ethel Stanley and Loretta Brown, all of Monroeville and Maxine Laffitte and Lisa Brown, both of Birmingham; one sister, Marcella Harrington of Monroeville; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, March 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Penn’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13 at 11 a.m. at Penn’s Chapel with Rev. Bruce Armstead officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch #3 Baptist Church Cemetery.

Liston Dean Sr.
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
Liston Dean Sr., 68, of Uriah died Friday, March 5, 2010 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile.
Dean was a native of Uriah and lived in Monroe County all of his life. He worked for International Paper Company for 42 years as a forester and as a cook aboard a tugboat called “Southern Craft 16”. He was a member of Grove Hill Baptist Church in Uriah where he was a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Octavia Dean of Uriah; two sons, Rodney Dean of Uriah and Liston Dean Jr. of Pensacola, Fla.; three daughters, Sonja Hale, Katrina Dean and Toshia Clausell, all of Uriah; two brothers, John Dean of Monroeville and Joseph Dean III of Uriah; two sisters, Josie Shivers and Christine Booker, both of Uriah; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Penn’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m. at Grove Hill Baptist Church in Uriah with Rev. T.L. Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Rev. Benjamin Easley
Tracy Morton Memorial Chapel, Pensacola, Fla.
Rev. Benjamin Easley, 61, of Pensacola, Fla. died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010.
Easley was a native of Beatrice and had resided in Pensacola since 1968, after graduating from J.F. Shields High School. He was a faithful member of Greater First Baptist Church. He was ordained as a reverend on Nov. 9, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jethro Easley Sr.; and his brother, Willie Riley.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Easley of Pensacola; his mother, Archie Lee Easley of Beatrice; two daughters, Shaunda (Charles) Young and Juantesha (Albert) McCreary, both of Pensacola; four sisters, Eula Gladden of Bronx, N.Y., Bettie Autrey, Maggie (Clifford) Spencer and Virginia Easley, all of Beatrice; three brothers, Jethro (Mary) Easley Jr. of Bronx, Edward (Elnora) Easley of Montgomery and Raymond (Patricia) Easley of Mobile; his mother-in-law, Sarah Moorer of Cantonment, Fla.; his father-in-law, Samuel Moorer of Walnut Hill; one uncle; three grandchildren; two special grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, March 6 at 1 p.m. at Pentecostal Temple Church in Pensacola with Bishop John D. Young officiating. Burial followed in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Pensacola.

Ollie James Frye Jr.
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Ollie James Frye Jr., 63, of Uriah died Sunday, March 7, 2010 at his home.
Frye was a native of Atmore and lived in Monroe County for many years. He was a road technician and a member of Lighthouse Apostolic Holiness Church in Atmore.
Survivors include his wife, Pinkey Frye of Uriah; his mother, Emma Frye of Orangeburg, S.C.; a son, Grica Frye of Atmore; three daughters, Tonya Hudson of Atmore, Jacequinae Frye of Mobile and Ursula Jackson of Daphne; four brothers, Willie C. Frye and Edward E. Frye, both of Portland, Ore., Ray Charles Smith of Hattisburg, Miss. and David “Charlene” Frye of Orangeburg, S.C.; seven sisters, Juanita Salter of Elizabeth, English, Lola (Bishop Robert) Grissett Sr., Judith (Vincent) Lambert and Sandra (Willie) Knight, all of Atmore, Ethel Frye of Atlanta, Ga., Debra Jackson of Pensacola, Fla. and Elizabeth Frye of Vancouver, Wash.; and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m. at Lighthouse Apostolic Holiness Church with Bishop Grissett officiating. Burial will follow in Stallworth Cemetery in Atmore.

Annie Bell Allison-Hawkins
Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, Cantonment, Fla.
Annie Bell Allison-Hawkins, 81, of Excel and formerly of Pensacola, Fla., died Sunday, March 7, 2010.
Hawkins was born on March 21, 1928 in Robertsdale.
She is survived by her daughters, Frances Allison-Omholt and Diane Allison-Levins; her brother and sister-in-law, Rufus Lee and Hazel Lewis; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Wednesday, March 10 at 10 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North in Cantonment, Fla. with Rev. Jackson Knight of Excel officiating. Burial followed in Plainview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Grady H. Salter
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
Grady H. Salter, 72, of Monroeville died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Crown Health Care Nursing Home in Greenville.
Salter was a native of Monroeville and lived in Monroe County all of his life. He retired from Georgia Pacific where he worked as a machine operator for 20 years. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Monroeville.
Survivors include Bessie Salter of Monroeville; nine sons, James Salter of Ft. Sill, Okla., Timothy Salter of Montgomery, Grady Salter Jr., Michael Salter, Tyrone Salter, Thomas Blackmon and Henry Blackmon, all of Monroeville, Anthony Williams of Stone Mountain, Ga. and Glen Salter of Pensacola, Fla.; five daughters, Debbie Williams of Stone Mountain, Sabrina Crook of McDonough, Ga. and Sheree Salter, Cathy Edwards and Tameka Blackmon, all of Monroeville; three brothers, Lomax Salter of Pensacola, Andrew Salter of Montgomery and Willie Salter of California; one sister, Martha Johnson of Monroeville; 41 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, March 8 at 2 p.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church in Monroeville with Rev. John A. Tucker officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Juliette Till Shiver
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Juliette Till Shiver, 82, of Frisco City died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at her home.
Shiver was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. She was a member of the Megargel Methodist Church and had worked at Vanity Fair as a sewing machine operator for several years.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Carter Till.
Survivors include her husband, Otis Shiver of Frisco City; a son, Jimmy Shiver of Dothan; a daughter, Gail Moore of Frisco City; a brother, Floyd Till of Monroeville; a sister, Viola Nettles of Frisco City; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, March 9 at 11 a.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Kathy McKinley and Rev. Lowell Thomas officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery in Frisco City.
Memorials may be made to the Megargel Methodist Church or the Frisco City Methodist Church.

Mary Immie Threatt
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Mary Immie Threatt, 86, of Frisco City died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Monroe County Hospital.
Threatt was a native of Pine Apple and lived in Monroe County for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Frisco City.
Survivors include five sons, Willie James Threatt of Milwaukee, Wis., Gilbert Threatt of Chicago, Ill., Willie Earl Threatt of Pensacola, Fla. and Richard Threatt and Patrick Threatt, both of Frisco City; six daughters, Willie Mae Evans of Uriah, Dorothy Threatt of Milwaukee, Shirley Roberts of Frisco City, Annie English and Katie Threatt of Pensacola and Marilyn English of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, John Riley of Pensacola; two sisters, Minnie Sanders of Monroeville and Josephine Moses of Pensacola; 29 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, March 6 at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church of Frisco City with Rev. Sandy McQueen, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
