Louise Rushton Watts Woods
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
Louise Rushton Watts Woods, 80, of Beatrice died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010 at her home.
Woods was a native of Beatrice and lived in Monroe County all of her life. She was a house wife and a member of Morning Star Baptist Church where she worked with the missionary department, pastor’s aide and was a member of the choir.
Survivors include two sons, David Watts of Chicago, Ill. and Samuel Watts of Pensacola, Fla.; four daughters, Johnnie W. Jones of Beatrice, Maxine Berry of Monroeville, Celeste Watts of Chicago and Angie Watts of Miami, Fla.; one brother, Edward Thomas of Carson, Calif.; one sister, Mary Johnson of Highland, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church Beatrice with Rev. Otis D. Culliver officiating. Burial followed in the Morning Star Cemetery.

Kenyon Wallas Wright
O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home, Thomasville
Kenyon Wallas Wright, 88, of Monroeville died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 at his home.
Wright was born in Pine Hill and was a retired forester.
Survivors include a son, Bryan Wright of Saraland; three daughters, Susan Hines of Monroeville, Allison Pearson of Starkville, Miss. and Carol Wright of Georgetown, Colo.; a brother, Gerald Wright of Pine Hill; a sister, Freda Bradford of Mobile; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. at Pine Hill Cemetery in Pine Hill with Rev. Carl Williams officiating.

Gussie Rhee Coston
Jones’ Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Gussie Rhee Coston, 44, of Frisco City died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 at Mobile Infirmary.
Coston was a native of Monroe County, a graduate of Repton High School and a nurse’s assistant at Englewood Nursing Home. She was a member of New Hope Christian Center in Monroeville.
Survivors include her husband, Minister Vincent Coston of Frisco City; sons, Joshua Coston and Cephas Coston, both of Monroeville, Vincent Coston Jr. of Troy and Bryson (Amanda) Coston of Leesville, La.; brothers, Willie Anderson of Repton, Jerry Watson of Mobile, Claude Watson of Connecticut and Sammy Anderson of Pensacola, Fla.; sisters, Ida Portis of Atmore, Bessie Wallace of Detroit and Elvira Evans of Connecticut.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 at 3 p.m. at New Hope Christian Center with Elder Patrick Banks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Earnest “Ernie” Lee Courtney
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Earnest “Ernie” Lee Courtney, 39, of Frisco City died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 at his home.
Courtney was born in Clearwater, Fla. and grew up in Pensacola, Fla. He had lived in Monroe County for 29 years. He worked with Burford Tree Service as a foreman.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Woodrow Courtney.
Survivors include his mother, Elaine Lambeth of Brewton; a son, Justin Courtney of Monroeville; two brothers, Luke (Marla) Courtney and Michael (Lou) Courtney, both of Pensacola; four sisters, Tammy (David) McCray of Virginia, Janna (Don) Boyd of Pensacola, Cindy Courtney of Brewton and Brenda “Sissy” (Talha) Yaqub of Georgia; and a number of step-brothers and step-sisters.
Services were held Friday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor James Boyd officiating. Burial followed in Monroe Chapel Cemetery in Frisco City.
Donations may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses c/o Luke Courtney or Janna Boyd.

Delester Lee
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
Delester Lee, 48, of Peterman died Monday, Sept 13, 2010 at USA Medical Center in Mobile.
Lee was a native of Peterman and lived all of his life in Monroe County. He was a construction worker.
Survivors include his wife, Doretta Johnson Lee of Castleberry; his father, Ernest Chaney of Moss Point, Miss.; two sons, Ronnie Lee of Riverside, Calif. and Jaymar Johnson of Castleberry; six brothers, Alfred Lee of Grand Bay, Herbert Lee of Moss Point, Rodney Dewayne Lee of Beatrice, Gregory Lee of Peterman, Tyrone Lett of Pascagoula, Miss. and Mitchell Lett of Mobile; six sisters, Slyvia Lee and Yancey Lett, both of Peterman, Brenda Lee and Josette Armstrong of Monroeville, Anganette Lett of Birmingham and Michelle Lett of Moss Point; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Penn’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. at Penn’s Chapel with Rev. W.E. Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Tunnel Springs.

Werdna Wynell Mordecai
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Werdna Wynell Mordecai, 76, of Monroeville died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile.
Mordecai was a native of Fernbank and had resided in Monroeville most of her life. She had worked for the phone company as a chief operator and was a member of the Eastwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Betty Ruth Abrams of Monroeville.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Dunn and Rev. John Mark Carpenter officiating. Burial followed in Shiloh Cemetery in Frisco City.

Wanda Renae “NeNe” Richardson
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Wanda Renae “NeNe” Richardson, 45, of Monroeville died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 at her home.
Richardson was a native and lifelong resident of Monroe County. She was a graduate of Monroe County High School and worked at the former Williamson Dickey and Medline as a sewing machine operator. She attended Daniel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her parents, George and Ida Richardson of Monroeville; two sons, Winfred Richardson of Monroeville and Damien J. Richardson of Korea; two brothers, Darren Ray Richardson of Jackson and George Anthony Richardson of Monroeville; two sisters, Cynthia D. Wiggins of Pensacola, Fla. and Laura Ann Leggitte of Monroeville; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 18 at 2:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church of Monroeville with Elder Booker T. Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Daniel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Innonence Tymeer Thornton, infant, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010 at USA Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Mobile.
Survivors include his mother, Tameika Lashay Shumack of Monroeville; grandmothers, Wanda Shumack of Peterman and Lucille Thornton of Monroeville; grandfather, Spencer Tucker of Monroeville; great-grandmothers, Mary Shumack of Peterman and Mildred Tucker of Monroeville; and a sister, Armani LaMya Thornton of Monroeville.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at Penn’s Chapel with Evangelist Roslyn P. Horn officiating. Burial will follow at New Liberty Cemetery in Tunnel Springs.

Brenda Lee Asberry
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Brenda Lee Asberry, 48, of Excel died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010 at Oak Island, N.C.
Asberry, a lifelong resident of Monroe County lived in Excel. She attended the Woodlawn Methodist Church and was a cook and worked for various restaurants.
She was preceded in death by her father, Allen Thomas Asberry; and her brother, Wayne Asberry.
Survivors include her mother, Annie M. Asberry of Excel; and four brothers, James (Tammy) Asberry, Paul (Pauline) Asberry, Marty (Jacqueline) Asberry and Scotty Asberry, all of Monroeville.
Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Excel Cemetery.

Alice Joyce Biggs-Bizzell

Alice Joyce Biggs-Bizzell, 42, of Atlanta, Ga. died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010 in Atlanta.
Bizzell was a native of Monroeville. She was a graduate of Monroe County High School and served in the Navy for 13 years. After serving her country she obtained her Registered Nursing degree at Georgia Perimeter College and worked in the Labor Delivery Department at Dekalb Medical Center in Decatur, Ga. She was a member of World Changers International Church in College Park, Ga.
Survivors include her husband, Steffen Bizzell; her parents, Mack and JoAnn Biggs of Monroeville; 10 siblings, Dorothy Biggs of Birmingham, John (Wanda) Biggs of Peterman, David (Rita) Biggs of Pensacola, Fla., Maxine (Milton) Barnett of Lithonia, Ga., Michael (Marie) Biggs of Montgomery, Eugene (Paula) Biggs of Spotsylvania, Va., Chris (Shirley) Biggs of Stone Mountain, Ga., Tammie (Reginald) Briggs of Millbrook, Scott (Ayana) Biggs of Montgomery and Tony (Angela) Biggs of Alabaster; her father-in-law, Eddie (Rita) Bizzell of Dayton, Ohio; three brothers-in-law, Kelly (Brigitte) Bizzell, Eddie Bizzell and Jason Bizzell, all of Dayton; and two stepchildren, Octavia and Steffon Jr.
Viewing will be Saturday, Sept. 25 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Jones Unity Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday at 12 noon at New Birth Pentecostal Church Monroeville. Burial will follow in Veterans Cemetery of Georgia.
