Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Leona Byrd of Mobile died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 in a Mobile nursing home.
Byrd was a native of Monroe County and had lived in Mobile for a number of years.
Survivors include her sister, Flodia Goodman of Mobile.
Graveside services were held Monday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating.

Rev. Sanford J. Cobb
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Rev. Sanford J. Cobb, 90, of Frisco City died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 in a Camden nursing facility.
Cobb was a member of Frisco City Holiness Church where he served as pastor for many years. He worked as a road grader operator with the Monroe County Commission for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lizzie Edwina Cobb; and his brother, Weldon Cobb Jr.
Survivors include two sons, James E. Cobb of Franklin and George F. Cobb of Monroeville; a daughter, Sandra Middleton of Monroeville; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Billy House officiating. Burial will follow in Bryant Cemetery in Finchburg.

Bernice M. Drayton
Pennís Funeral Home, Monroeville
Bernice M. Drayton, 74, of Frisco City died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 at Monroe County Hospital.
Drayton was a native of Deerfield Beach, Fla. and lived in Monroe County some of her life. She was a supervisor of the maintenance department for the Florida Atlantic University and a member of Cathedral Church of God in Deerfield Beach.
Survivors include a son, Earl Lang of Frisco City; a sister, Matilda Marks of Atmore; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. at Pennís Chapel with Evangelist Cindy Stots officiating. Burial followed in New Chapel Baptist Church cemetery in Old Salem.

William Jowers Lankford
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
William Jowers Lankford, 81, of Monroeville died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010 at USA Medical Center in Mobile.
Lankford was born in Gasden and had lived in Monroeville since 1991. He was a nurse and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monroeville. He was also a WWII Veteran of the United States Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Lankford of Monroeville; sons, David (Tammy) Lankford of Mexia, Andy Lankford and Joseph Lankford, both of Monroeville and Philip Lankford of California; daughters, Diane Lankford of California and Jennifer Lankford of Colorado; a brother, Claxton Curren Lankford of Gasden; a sister, Mildred Burns of Florence; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Sara Shaver officiating.

Daniel Montgomery
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Daniel Montgomery of Beatrice died Monday, Sept. 20, 2010 at USA Hospital in Mobile. Funeral services are incomplete at this time. Please contact Jones Unity Funeral Home for further information.

Eunice Dreadin Phillips
Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, Monroeville
Eunice Dreadin Phillips, 84, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010 in Monroeville.
Phillips was a native and lifelong resident of Huxford and a member of the Huxford Community of Christ Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jack (Wanda) Dreadin of Mobile and David (Tonya Ardis) Dreadin of Huxford; a daughter, Martha (Ronald) Brooks of Lone Star; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Elder Wayne Morris officiating. Burial followed at Huxford Church of Christ cemetery.

Kathelean Lett Stanton
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Kathelean Lett Stanton, 69, of Cleveland, Ohio died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010.
Stanton was a native of Monroe County and was born in Tunnel Springs. She graduated from Monroe County Training School and worked at two different hospitals and Bailey Meters Controls before becoming the first black female police officer for East Cleveland Police Department. She was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served on the nursesí guild and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheryl Stanton of East Cleveland, Ohio; eight brothers, Ervin Lett and Calvin Lett, both of Moss Point, Miss., Clark Lett of Beatrice, John B. Lett Jr. of Covina, Calif., Robert B (Lelia) Lett of Cleveland, Willie A. (Diane) Lett of Baltimore, MD., Maurice Lett of Atlanta, Ga., Lewis (Penny) Mims of Delaware, Ohio; five sisters, Katie R. (Willie F.) Marshall and Aundretta (Clifton) Montgomery, both of Peterman, Mary L. (Alfred) Lee of Bay Minette, Bernadine Richardson of Moss Point and Barbara J. (Alex) Harper of Richmond Heights, Ohio; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church #1 in Tunnel Springs. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

George Thomas
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
George Thomas, 86, of Little River died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 at his home.
Thomas was a native of Baldwin County and served in the US Army with an honorable discharge. He was a retired machine operator with John McMillian Sawmill of Stockton and a member of Tate Chapel A.M.E. Church in Little River were he served as steward and superintendent of Sunday school.
Survivors include seven sons, George Thomas Jr. and Shedrick Thomas of Little River, Henry Thomas of Washington, Marvin Thomas of Brumley, Randy Thomas of Mobile, Willie George Saners of Altedina, Calif and Robert Weaver of Birmingham; two daughters, Dicinia Naves of Bay Minette and Sheena M. Wau of Daphne; sisters, Dollie Bridges of Pascagoula, Miss. and Cora January of Little River; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. at Tate Chapel A.M.E. Church in Little River with Rev. Franklin Robinson Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Betty Jean Hildreth Godwin
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Betty Jean Hildreth Godwin, 76, of Excel died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010 at Monroe County Hospital.
Godwin was a member of Excel Assembly of God Church and worked with Vanity Fair as an examiner. She also owned and operated a bakery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Godwin.
Survivors include a son, William Byron Godwin of Excel; daughters, Linda (Randy) Silcox and Lisa (Scott) Etheridge, both of Excel; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Welch officiating. Burial followed in Excel Cemetery in Excel.
Donations may be made to Project Lifesaver.

Frank Bernard Knight
Pennís Funeral Home, Monroeville
Frank Bernard Knight, 46, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010.
Knight attended school in the Monroe County School System. He was a utility worker on several construction jobs and attended Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Melvin Mose of Monroeville; two brothers, Bobby Knight of Monroeville and Chase (Belinda) Mose of Mobile; and two sisters, Jennifer Prothro of San Antonio, Texas and Theresa (Kenneth) Bettis of Monroeville.
Services were held Saturday, Oct. 16 at 2:30 p.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church in Finchburg with Rev. W.E. Hill officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Gregory Donald "Greg" Morgan
Mack Funeral Home, Robertsdale
Gregory Donald "Greg" Morgan went home to be with The Lord on Sept. 28, 2010.
He was born May 7, 1960 in Mobile.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. at Fairhope United Methodist Church in Fairhope and Sunday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. at Springhill United Methodist in Lenox. Family and Friends are invited to attend.
Memorial gifts can be made to the ďGreg Morgan Memorial FundĒ for the Morgan children at Wells Fargo Bank in Daphne or United Bank in Monroeville.
