Mary Ethel Taylor Nettles
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Mary Ethel Taylor Nettles, 101, of Old Salem community died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010 at Englewood Nursing Home.
Nettles was a native and lifelong resident of Old Salem and had been a homemaker and a member of the Old Salem Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Will Russell Nettles; and a son, Millard Nettles.
Survivors include one daughter, Amilee Bruner of Monroeville; one daugher-in-law, Ann Nettles of Frisco City; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Thursday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at Old Salem Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Cleveland Brown officiating.

Annie Jo Partain
Cope Funeral Home, Evergreen
Annie Jo Partain, 69, of Castleberry died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010 at USA Medical Center in Mobile.
Partain was born in Conecuh County. She was secretary and custodian for Conecuh County Board of Education.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Rev. C.D. Baggett and Bill Partain; and one daughter, Sally Margaret Baggett.
Survivors include a daughter, Carla Johnson of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Pat Salter of Evergreen; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. at Union Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Castleberry. Burial followed in Union Grove Cemetery.

Mary Smith
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Mary Smith, 57, of Monroeville died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010 at Monroe Manor Nursing Home.
Smith was a native of Monroe County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Call to Life Apostolic Church where she served as “Mother of the Church.”
Survivors include her husband, Eddie Smith of Monroeville; her mother, Minnie Lucille Lee of Monroeville; two sons, Tony Smith and Travis Smith, both of Monroeville; one daughter, Sandra Stallworth of Monroeville; brothers, Willie Green Lee of Monroeville, Robert Lee Jr. of Uriah and James Lee of Pensacola, Fla.; sisters, Daisy Stallworth of Tunnel Springs, Wanda Watson of Belleville, Mildren Richardson, Theresa Lee and Cynthia Clark, all of Monroeville; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, Oct. 16 at 12 noon at St. Peter Baptist Church in Franklin with Apostle J. Gibbs and Rev. Matthew Davis, pastor, officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Clyde Beverly Stokes
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Clyde Beverly Stokes, 67, of Mexia died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 at his home.
Stokes had lived most of his life in Monroe County. He attended Community Chapel Holiness Church and was a truck driver and farmer.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie Dale Stokes and Alvin Stokes; and his sister, Louise Lee.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Stokes of Mexia; sons, Lamar (Wendy) Stokes of Range, Dewayne (Tammy) Stokes of Lenox and Henry (Beverly) Stokes of Mexia; daughter, Melinda (Tony) Wiggins of Mexia; brothers, Franklin Stokes of San Antonio, Texas, Grady Stokes of Preston, Miss., Kenneth Stokes of Andalusia and Bill Stokes of Excel; sisters, Sandra Owens of Excel, Bobbie Nichols of Stapleton, Kitty Pugh of Excel, Sherry Watson of Mexia and Mary Branch of Ft. Deposit; 21 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Aplin and Rev. Herman McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in Old Salem Cemetery.

Earl Wayne Turberville
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Earl Wayne Turberville, 54, of Frisco City died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010 at his home.
Turberville was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. He worked with G.A. West Construction Company as an insulation supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Jane Wiggins Turberville.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Turberville of Frisco City; sons, Steven Turberville and Derek Turberville, both of Frisco City; daughter, Melissa Wilkins of Rocky Hill; father, Earl C. Turberville of Frisco City; brother, Chris Turberville of Frisco City; sisters, Renee Hayles of Ft. Payne and Darlene Watson of Excel; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Sister Mary Watford Stabler officiating. Burial followed in Corinth Deer Cemetery officiating.

Daniel Alexander
Jones’ Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Daniel Alexander, 44, of Peterman died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 at his home.
Alexander had lived in Monroe County since 2005. He graduated from Florida State with a degree in engineering. He worked with the Department of Defense and was a member of the National Association of Black Electrical Engineers.
Survivors include his brother, Rupert Alexander of Miami, Fla.; and his sister, Victoria Roberts of Androse Town, Bahamas.
Services were held Saturday, Nov. 27 at Antioch Baptist Church #1 in Tunnel Springs with Rev. Whalen Oliver officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Ray P. Bowen
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Ray P. Bowen, 78, of Goodway died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010 at his home.
Bowen was born in Monroe County and had lived in Goodway for the past 44 years. He was of the Baptist faith. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1955 and spent 18 months in combat during the Korean War. He retired from J.E. Harris Construction Company where he worked as a construction supervisor.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen McMillan Bowen of Goodway; daughter, Suzanne Bowen (Jerry L.) Doran of Century, Fla.; brothers, David (Mazie) Bowen, Jerry (JoAnn) Bowen, both of Frisco City and Ferrell Bowen of Bay Minette; sisters, Alice Snow of Uriah and Marie (Jerry) Kranz of Arkansas; sister-in-law, Betty Guy of Coffeeville; brother-in-law, Carl (Gloria) McMillan of Goodway; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy White and Rev. Robert Knowles officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Frisco City.

George “Pete” Alex Hawkins
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
George “Pete” Alex Hawkins, 78, of Frisco City died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 at Mobile Infirmary.
Hawkins lived most of his life in Monroe County. He was of the Baptist faith and a mason. He had worked with Southwest Alabama Water Works in maintenance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Douglas Hawkins and Janie Stacey Hawkins; his brother, Homer Bevis Hawkins; and his sister, Lula Bae Bolin.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Hawkins of Frisco City; four sons, Douglas Wayne (Jeanette) Hawkins of Repton, Jerry Hawkins of Mexia, Aaron Hawkins of Pensacola and Tim (Leigh) King of Excel; two daughters, Roxanne (John) Baggett and Kim (Robert) McPherson, both of Frisco City; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Davis and Rev. Grady Palmer officiating. Burial followed in Enon Cemetery.

Margaret Caroline Swindler Lee
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Margaret Caroline Swindler Lee, 93, of Brewton died Monday, Nov. 22, 2010 at the R.F. Green Veterans Facility in Bay Minette.
Lee was a native of Pennsylvania and had retired as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. She had attended the St. Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Sandra Mayer officiating. Burial followed in Brushy Creek Cemetery in Lenox.

Jerry Michael “Mike Montana” Watson
Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, Atmore
Jerry Michael “Mike Montana” Watson, 59, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010 in Monroeville.
Watson was a native of Atmore, a resident of Atmore for the past 17 years and a former resident of Canoe. He attended the Canoe Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Earl Watson; grandparents, Sam and Annie Bradley; a brother, Ricky Drinkard; and a sister, Brenda Boone.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Marshall Watson of Atmore; two sons, Michael Blue (Tracie) Watson of Mobile and John Henry Watson of New York, N.Y.; two daughters, Michelle (Aubrey) Gregg Lucas of Atmore and Angel Cruise of Atmore; his mother, Betty (Bill) Wisener of Mobile; two brothers, Greg Drinkard and Chuck Drinkard , both of Mobile; two sisters, Sandra Foster and Pam Chastang, both of Mobile; and seven grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Earle Greene, Sister Wanda Fountain and Bro. John Hammond officiating. Burial followed in Canoe Freewill Cemetery.
