DANIEL T. BENTO SR.

PELL CITY Graveside service for Daniel T. Bento Sr., 67, was Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Seddon Cemetery with Deacon Terry Rumore officiating.

Mr. Bento died Aug. 3. Prior to moving to Pell City, he was a resident of Kingman, Maine. He has lived in Pell City for the past 12 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. Bento; sons, Daniel T. Bento Jr. of Kingman, Maine and James M. Bento, William J. Bento and Brian S. Bento of Pell City; daughters, Donna M. Garland of Lincoln, Beverly A. Garland of Passadumkeag, Maine, Cheryl A. Bento of Lincoln and Susan J. Boutot of Ellsworth, Maine; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Robert J. Bento of Taunton, Mass.; and sister, Elizabeth A. Horsefall of Dartmouth, Mass.

The family received friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.

MARTIN JOSEPH GILROY

PELL CITY Funeral service for Martin Joseph (Happy) Gilroy was Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Billy Church officiating. Burial was in Valley Hill Memorial Gardens in Pell City.

Mr. Gilroy died Aug. 3 at Rosewood Manor Retirement Home. He was born March 27, 1923 in Lost Creek No. 2, Pa. As a young boy he worked in the coal mines and later served his country in World War II in the Army. He also served as an interpreter during the Nuremberg War Crime Trials. After returning to the states, he was employed as a tour bus driver and later became a coast to coast tractor trailer driver, which led to owning his own trucking company. After retiring from the trucking industry, he worked as a security guard in the Birmingham area. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Mae (Donahoo) Gilroy; his parents, Martin Gilroy and Dorothy (Richards) Gilroy; sisters, Dorothy Reninger and Evelyn Lindenmuth; and brothers, Lewis Leach, Patrick Gilroy and Edward Gilroy. He will forever be remembered by his family in Alabama and his special friends at Rosewood Manor as the "Southern gentleman from Pennsylvania."

He is survived by sister, Anna Veach of Shenandoah, Pa.; brother, Michael Gilroy of Chicopee, Mass.; stepchildren, Charlotte Turner of Ashland, Mack Abercrombie of Cropwell; Jean Mathis of Pell City and Raymond Pike of Pell City; 10 stepgrandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.

EUGENE VERNON HOLLAWAY

RAGLAND Funeral service for Eugene Vernon Hollaway, 82, was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Usrey-Chapel Hill Funeral Home chapel in Pell City. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery in Ragland.

Mr. Hollaway died July 30 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. He was a beloved husband and father. He was a veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart and the Gold Leaf Cluster.

He is survived by his wife, Lillie M. Hollaway of Ragland; daughter, Judy Freeman of Ball Play; sons, Travis E. Hollaway, Randy R. Hollaway and James Thomas Hollaway, all of Ragland; sister, Essie Wright of Anniston; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Usrey-Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.

EDNA ADELE JACKSON

PELL CITY Funeral service for Edna Adele Jackson, 71, was Saturday at 11 a.m. at Usrey-Chapel Hill Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. J.D. Wales officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Jackson died July 31 at Medical Center East.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny J. Jackson of Pell City; daughter, Patricia Lynn Kliebert of Corona, Calif.; son, Jeffrey Wayne Jackson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three grandsons and one granddaughter.

Pallbearers were Jeffrey Wayne Jackson, Rian Patrick Jackson, Nick Kliebert, Carter Jackson and Preston Cooper.

Usrey-Chapel Hill Funeral Home directed the service.

FLORA ELIZABETH NEWSOME

PELL CITY Funeral service for Flora Elizabeth Newsome, 78, was Friday at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Corbie Isbell officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Newsome died July 29. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernice A. Newsome. She was a resident of Pell City for the past 42 years. As a child she was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she has remained a member. She was a loving mother and grandmother to her family and was loved by all.

She is survived by daughters, Linda Isbell and Deborah Boyd of Pell City; sons, Roy Poe of Cropwell and Walter Wydmon of Lake Station, Ind.; sisters, Zola Parker and Lera Isbell of Cropwell; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Walter Wydmon Jr., Johnny Isbell Jr., Jackie Boyd Jr., Justin Isbell Ricky Donahoo and Alan Little Sr.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.

LINDA ISBELL POUNDERS

PELL CITY Memorial service for Linda Isbell Pounders, 40, will be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Pounders died July 28 in Louisiana.

She is survived by father and stepmother, James Isbell and Kathy Andrews of Pell City; daughter, April Phillips Brewster of Pell City; son, Greg Pounders Jr. Brewster of Pell City; sisters, Shirley Hickman of Mobile and Mary Ann Alverson of Coal City; stepsisters, Darlene Willis of Pell City and Tammie Gibson of Sylacauga; one grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

MARY DEE LOCKRIDGE SMITH

PELL CITY Funeral service for Mary Dee Lockridge Smith, 76, will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. A.L. Courtney officiating. Burial will be in Valley Hill Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died Aug. 4. She was born in Crossville on Sand Mountain. She moved to Pell City when she was a child and was a graduate of Pell City High School. Mrs. Smith and her husband owned and operated the Hillcrest Restaurant in Pell City for 11 years. She was the bookkeeper for the St. Clair Farmers Exchange for many years and her and her husband owned and operated the Smith & Hayes Sporting Goods Store in Pell City for many years. She was very active in the Pell City Band Boosters and was also very active at the Eden Methodist Church for many years. She presently attended Grace Community Church in Cropwell and her and her husband were very active in many of the civic clubs in Pell City over the years. Her and her husband James Howard had been married for the past 59 years. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Lockridge and Johnny Lockridge.

She is survived by her husband, James Howard Smith; son, Ronnie Gene Smith of Pell City; daughters, Sandra Kay Smith of Pell City and Danni Sheree Smith of Charleston, S.C.; grandchildren, David Smith, Jeana Smith, Ben Howard, Adam Howard, Stefani Artner and Seth Smith; great-grandchildren, Sara Smith, Jesse Howard and Jack Howard and sister, Peggy Hodge of Pell City.

Pallbearers will be Gene Smith, David Smith, Keith Smith, Ben Howard, Greg Hawkins, Bobby Racca and Keith Hodge.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

NEWTON JUNIOR SMITH

PELL CITY Funeral service for Newton Junior Smith, 74, was Saturday at 2 p.m. at Usrey-Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Pell City. Burial was in Dunnavant Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died July 30.

He is survived by his wife, Elvie Smith of Pell City and sons, Jerry Lee Smith and Richard Earl Smith of Pell City.

Usrey-Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.

RICHARD B. WHITE SR.

CENTER POINT Funeral service for Richard B. White Sr., 71, was Friday at 10 a.m. at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville.

Mr. White died July 28. He was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and served his country in the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Margie White; daughters, Debbie Seritt and Diane White; sons, Terry White and Richard B. White Jr.; sisters, Anita Heard and Jane Wise; brother, Jim White; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Jefferson Memorial in Trussville directed the service.
