Funeral for H. Lester Reynolds, who died Sunday, September 21, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital, was held Tuesday, September 23. The 2 p.m. service was held at Shelton Funeral Home with burial in the Burningtree Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Reynolds was born in Lawrence County to Charlie M. and Lora A. (Howell) Reynolds.

Survivors include his wife, Trannie Lee Reynolds; two sons, Charles L. Reynolds of Melbourne, Fla. and James T. Reynolds of Decatur; one daughter, Trannie Jeane Reynolds of Decatur; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Steve Vest, Warren Vest, Willis Vest, Robby Reynolds, David Reynolds and Atley Howell.

Joseph Hubert Goodwin

70, retired foreman, Chalybeate

Funeral for Joseph Hubert Goodwin was held Wednesday, September 24, 2 p.m., at Parkway Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Lee officiating.

Burial was in the Chalybeate Cemetery.

Mr. Goodwin died at his home on Monday, September 22, 1997.

He was born in Lawrence County and was a Marine. He retired from General Motors and was an elder at Grace Christian Fellowship Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Goodwin; two sons, Bobby Joe Goodwin of Athens and Donnie Joe Goodwin of Chalybeate; three daughters, Anita Vaughn Southard of Ozark, Shelia Mae Windham of Trinity and Faye Elizabeth Hamilton of Chalybeate; a sister, Znobie Morris of Chalybeate; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Woodrow Windham, Jerry Hamilton, Jamie Goodwin, Lucas Hamilton, Jason Goodwin and William Lieb.

Edgar J. Nichols

48, self-employed, Moulton

Funeral for Edgar J. "Red" Nichols was held Thursday, September 25, 11 a.m., at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy G. Kimbrough officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Nichols died Tuesday, September 23, 1997, at his residence.

He was born in Sheffield to Liburn Jackson and Ruby Mae Nichols. Mr. Nichols was a mechanic and car dealer.

Mr. nichols is survived by his wife, Rita Fuller Nichols; three sons, Nathan Edgar Nichols of Chicago, Jackson Martin Nichols of Indiana and Edgar Jackson Nichols Jr. of Moulton; one daughter, Kimberly Rose Nichols of Chicago; four brothers, Beckem Smith of Massey, Curtis Smith of Florence, Hansel Smith of Ford City and Troy Nichols of Moulton; five sisters, Jewel Neil of Cherokee, Midget Rogerson of Moulton, Gladys Mathers and Carol Franks, both of Double Springs and Doris Conley of Nitrate City.

Nephews and friends were the pallbearers.

Essie Lee Darnell Thurmond

89, retired industrial worker, Lebanon, Tenn.

Funeral for Essie Lee Darnell Thurmond, who died Saturday, September 27, 1997, in Lebanon, was held Tuesday, September 30, at Parkway Funeral Home. Kyle McWhorter officiated the 1 p.m. service.

Burial was in the Decatur City Cemetery.

Mrs Thurmond was born in Lawrence County. She was retired from the Sunbeam Corporation.

Survivors include two sons, Aubrey Darnell of Lansing, Mich., and Gordon Darnell of Lebanon; three daughters, Frances Gillespie, Sarah Wheeler and Margaret Hargrove, all of Lebanon; 28 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons were the pallbearers.

Curtis Luther Terry

84, retired businessman, Courtland

Funeral for Curtis Luther Terry was held Sunday, September 28, 2:30 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. James Long officiating.

Burial was in the Courtland Cemetery.

Mr. Terry died Friday, September 26, 1997, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Lawrence County and was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church. Mr. Terry was former owner of Terry's Grocery and Edna's Grill.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Mae Terry; one son, Bill R. Terry of Florence; his brother, Waymon Terry of Decatur; and two grandsons.

Maudie Reeves

65, Moulton

Funeral arrangements for Maudie Reeves, who died Tuesday, September 30, 1997, at her residence, will be announced by Elliott Funeral Home.

Arnold Roberts Gordon

67, businessman, Moulton

Owner of The Gordon Agency (Insurance and Real Estate), Arnold Roberts Gordon, died Wednesday, October 1, 1997, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center.

The funeral was held Friday, October 3, 10:30 a.m., at Moulton Baptist Church with Dr. Darrell Wood officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Gordon was born in Greenwood, Miss., to Arnold and Mable Roberts Gordon. He moved to Moulton in 1946, was a graduate of Lawrence County High School and Mississippi College Mr. Gordon was active in civic affairs as the former president of the Moulton Businessmen Organization, Moulton Zoning Board and the Industrial Development Board of Lawrence County. He was a certified general real estate appraiser and certified insurance counselor. Mr. Gordon was a member of Moulton Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Smith Gordon; four sons, Mark Gordon of Huntsville, Bob Gordon and Bruce Gordon, both of Moulton and Jay Gordon of Alabaster; one brother, Max Gordon of Huntsville; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were his sons and Bill Watson and Perry Glenn.

Pleaz Ray Chenault Sr.

83, retired Ford Motor dealer, Moulton

Pleaz Ray Chenault Sr., who owned Chenault Motor Company in Moulton for 48 years, died Thursday, October 2, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital.

The funeral was held Saturday, October 4, 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Carl Long and Sam Pickard officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Chenault was born in Lawrence County. He was a member of the Lions Club and a former city councilman. Mr. Chenault served as acting mayor of Moulton during the 1950's. He was also a deacon and trustee at First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Mae Chenault; one son Pleaz Ray Chenault Jr. of Moulton; one daughter, Carolyn Chenault Brown of Katonah, N.Y.; one brother, Prince A. Chenault of Trinity; three sisters, Icie Runnels of Petal, Miss., Paralee Patton of Athens and Jewel Hester of Russellville; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ernest Hauk, Ricky Chenault, Charles Oden Jr., Arnold Runnels, David Chenault and Robert Littrell.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.

Maudie Reeves

65, homemaker, Moulton

Funeral for Maudie Reeves was held Friday, October 3, 2 p.m., at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewight McKay officiating.

Burial was in the Johnson Chapel Cemetery near Danville.

Mrs. Reeves died Tuesday, September 30, 1997, at her home.

She was born in Morgan County.

Survivors include three sons, James Michael Reeves and Mark Reeves, both of Decatur and Ronnie Glenn Reeves of Trinity; seven daughters, Jaculine Bates, Janice Lee Reeves and Melissa D. Nelms, all of Hillsboro, Gloria Jean Cockrell of Texas, Betty Sue Proctor and Tina Kay Nelms, both of Moulton and Peggy V. Smith of Town Creek; one brother, Newt Abner of Michigan; two sisters, Marie S. Stone and Florence Nelson, both of Moulton; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Timothy Cockrell, Randall Cockrell, Keith Cockrell, Michael Terry, Travis Johnson and Brandon Reeves.

Anna Lucille Finger

81, atomic bomb builder, Georgia

A memorial service for Anna Lucille Finger of Acworth, Ga., was held Monday, October 1, in Acworth with the Rev. Sammy Evans officiating and Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Finger died Friday, September 25, 1997, at Redmond Hospital in Rome, Ga.

She was born in Blount County, Tenn., and was the youngest of 17 children. Mrs. Finger helped build the first atomic bomb in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and later worked as a nurses aide at Eastern State Mental Institution. She was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Harlow Finger; one son, Ronald Finger of Moulton; one daughter, Juneta Pickens of Acworth; one brother, Herb Franklin of Chattanooga; one sister, Zella Marshall of Chattanooga; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Robinson

97, Moulton

Funeral arrangements for Dorothy Robinson, who died Tuesday, October 7, 1997, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center, will be announced by Reynolds Funeral Home.

Elmer Baker Terry

84, Carpenter, Courtland

Funeral for Elmer Baker Terry, who died Monday, October 13, 1997, at Helen Keller Memorial Hospital, is today (Thursday), October 16. The 2 p.m. service will be at Courtland Methodist Church with David Nelson officiating.

Burial is to be in the Courtland City Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Terry was born in Lawrence County to the late Benny Lee and Beulah Blaxton Terry. He had worked as a carpenter for TVA, Browns Ferry. Mr. Terry was a member of the Courtland Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Terry.

Survivors include three daughters, Nadine Loosier of Courtland, Sue Peebles and Ann Conner, both of Town Creek; two sons, J.L. Terry of Kentucky and Mike Terry of Courtland; two brothers, Hansel Terry and Malcolm Terry, both of Moulton; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Nephews will be the pallbearers.
