OHATCHEE Graveside service for Wanda Bright, 61, of Ohatchee, who passed away August 11, 2008, will be at noon today at Pine Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Walter Lawrence will officiate. Miller Funeral Home and Crematory directing. Ms. Bright was a lifetime resident of Calhoun County and was preceded in death by her daughter, Denice Bright. She is survived by her children, Darlene (Johnny) Glasgow, James Bright, Lenell (Gerald) Gregg, Belinda (Fran) Grower; grandchildren, Crystal (Adam) McLean, Stephanie Pennington, Joshua Pennington, Hannah (Dustin) Snyder, Haleigh Bright, Kyle Gregg, Andrea Gregg, Brandon Wallace, Kelsey Williams; great-grandchildren, Brayden Snyder, Lainey McLean, Ashlyn McLean; sister, Javiolet Porter; brothers, Tommy Pinson, James Pinson, Calvin Pinson, Jake Pinson; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday and until 1 hour prior to service time on Friday. He will lie instate at the church for 1 hour. OAK LEVEL Memorial services for John T. Hobbs Jr., 81, will be at 11 a.m. today, August 13, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville with Dr. Derek Staples and the Rev. Jim Wilson officiating. Andy Bumpus will provide the music. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary one hour prior to the service. Mr. Hobbs died Monday at Regional Medical Center in Anniston after a short illness.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Suzanne; four sons, Tom Hobbs (Cheryl), of Birmingham, Rick Hobbs (Gina), of Memphis, Tenn., Mike Hobbs, of Johnson City, Tenn., Chris Hobbs (Lauren), of Jacksonville; and a stepson, Bill Duncan, of Oak Level; three brothers, George Hobbs (Pauline), Gene Hobbs (Ruth), and Harold Hobbs (Dorothy), all of Calhoun County; his well-loved grandchildren, Jade, Jason, Mitchell, Kyle, Jon, Jordan, Alex, Cameron, Reid, Lexie, Jack, Hope, and Joshua; and many special nieces and nephews. Mr. Hobbs was a Wilsonville, Ala., native, born August 4, 1927, to John Thompson Hobbs Sr., and Mary Pluma Vansant Hobbs. After graduating from Jacksonville High School in 1946, he served in the United States Air Force and took part in the Berlin Airlift (1949) as a member of a unit providing radar direction for allied planes that brought crucial supplies to the embattled citizens of Berlin. He later earned a B.S. degree in mathematics and history from Jacksonville State University. A 35-year career with the United States Postal Service followed. His wife and children feel that his greatest achievement was designing and building their dream home in rural Cleburne County at Oak Level. In addition to using beams that he hand-hewed with his grandfather's century-old foot adz, he also fashioned a fireplace from large rocks he gathered by hand from the mountains of Borden Springs. It took John seven years to fulfill his dream, which stands as a legacy to his family.

OXFORD Funeral services for Jimmy D. Nelson, 74, will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at Parker Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Billy Harris and Pastor Karl Doerner officiating. Mr. Nelson will lie in state one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church. Burial will follow in the Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends this evening from 5-8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home. Mr. Nelson died on Monday at Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Janie Nelson; son, Randy K. Nelson and his wife, Kim; daughter, Cyndi Smith and her husband, Bruce; stepson, Jason Reeves and his wife, Davinna; grandchildren, Sarah Moore, Matthew Nelson, Joey Nelson, Kevin Nelson and MacKenize Reeves.

Pallbearers will be Larry Camp, Bobby Welch, Tim Harris, Randy Beshears, Cecil Whiteside and Harry Walters. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron McKinney, Tommy Davis and Bill Suddeth. Mr. Nelson was a life long resident of Oxford and Anniston area. He was a car dealer for over 50 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Nelson was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church and a loving father, grandfather and friend. He was a devoted golfer and a big Alabama football fan.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Bobby Glen Sims, affectionately known as "Bob" to his family and many friends, died peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2008, at the age of 70. Bob was born in Mt. Olive Community, Clay County, Alabama, on March 31, 1938. He had a deep love of music and was a highly accomplished and well known guitarist in the Tallahassee area. He was a proud member of The Good Times Music Company Band, Roadmasters Band, and The Bravest Little Band, and was invited up to play a tune or two whenever spotted in the audience by many other musicians in the area. In recent years, Bob was the Music Director for the Sopchoppy Opry. He held weekly practice sessions in his home studio, which displays an impressive collection of guitars, some of which he hand made. Before retiring on February 28, 2005, Bob was employed by the State of Florida as Chief Engineer of The Florida Channel Television. He attended Georgia Tech University, and was a member of Unity of Tallahassee Church and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #1075. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Sims; a son, Marty (Star) Sims, of Frisco, Texas; a daughter, Beverly (Bob) Noerr, of Colton, California; grandchildren, Connor, Lawson and Gabriel Sims and Josh, Cameron, Patrick, Anna Chae and Airel Noerr; stepchildren, Billy Ervin, Christy Ervin, Linda Ervin, Keith Thompson, Deborah Thompson, Shane Thompson and Donna Thompson-Schilling; sisters, Betty Privett, of Union City, Ga., LaNelle (Bill) Phillips, of Anniston, and Shirley (Ernie) Garcia, of Douglasville, Ga.; first cousin, Mike Cockrell, of Alabaster; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was deeply loved by his family and many friends, who will remember his engaging smile and sense of humor. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at Beggs Funeral Home, 3322 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL, 850-942-2929. Kevin was loved by many who will miss his beautiful smile, his laugh and his sense of humor. He has touched and fothe Rever changed many lives.
