BUFORD HUBERT OWSLEY

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Buford Hubert Owsley, 78, will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Usrey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Owsley died Aug. 30 at his residence. A native of Dadeville, he had been a resident of Talladega since 1954. He was founder and first president of the Talladega Association of Life Underwriters, was commander of Talladega V.F.W. Post 4261 for several terms in the 1960s and in the 1990s and was also commander of the Talladega American Legion post in the 1990s; served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Talladega. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter B. Owsley and Susie c. Owsley.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Owsley of Talladega; two sons, Mark Owsley and Dan Owsley of Talladega; two sisters, Linda Blackmon and Wynema Taft of Opelika; a brother, Raymond Owsley of Opelika; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James Armstrong, Hubert Hubbard, Shannon Malcom, Richard Popham, Mike Taft and Walter Taft Sr.

Honorary pallbearers will be William Taft Jr., Roger Tillman and Reggie Phillips.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

JAMES B. BATTLE

ALPINE — James B. Battle Sr. died Aug. 30 at Talladega Healthcare Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.

ANNIE FLORINE BISHOP

MONTEVALLO — Graveside service for Annie Florine Bishop, 91, will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, with the Rev. Shelby Batson officiating.

Mrs. Bishop died Aug. 29.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Bishop of Montevallo; a daughter, Suellen Moore of Montevallo; four sisters, Marie M. Davis of Bessemer, Violet M. Kelley of Tuscaloosa, June M. Hamilton of Athens, Ga., and Gladys M. Warren of Kingston, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home of Sylacauga will direct the service.

McCLINE RUSSELL

ALEXANDER CITY—McCline Russell died Aug. 29 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Armour Memorial Funeral Home.

JAMES A. SHEALY

ALEXANDER CITY—James A. Shealy died Aug. 30 at Russell Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright’s Funeral Home.

WILLIS EDWARD HARRIS

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Willis Edward “Ed” Harris, 65, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bobby Parker officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Harris died Aug. 31 at his residence. He was raised in Pell City and served in the U.S. Navy. Over the years, he had been a welder and the last few years he had his own welding shop in the Bessemer area.

He is survived by six sons, Michael W. Harris of Florida, Willie E. Harris Jr. of Bessemer, Ronnie Harris Hurst (Rita) of Pell City, Patrick E. Harris (fiancee Vicki) of Smithfield, N.C., Justin Harris and Morgan Harris of Hendersonville, N.C.; two sisters, Helen Starnes Smith (Charles) of Pell City and Bobbie Phillips (Alford) of Riverside; two grandsons, Nick and Tyler Harris Hurst; three granddaughters, Tiffany Harris Hurst, Taylor Harris and Kandis Harris; one uncle, Henry Adams (Aunt Helen) of Cedar Town, Ga.; mother-in-law, Loraine Parker (Granny); brother-in-law, B.W. Hobson (Linda) of Tuscaloosa; sister-in-law, Joann Branan; special friend, Wasif; special friend and care taker, Mac McGowan; four nieces and several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home will direct the service.

IOLA M. SEARCY

LINCOLN — Funeral service for Iola M. Searcy, 86, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home with Brother Harvey Bowlin Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Searcy died Aug. 31 at Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega. She was a native of Jefferson County but had been a resident of Talladega County most of her life. She worked in the textile industry for many years and was a house parent at the Presbyterian Home for several years.

She was a member of Lincoln Church of God, and was preceded in death by her husband, Jewell Elmer Searcy; three sisters, Pearl Shows, Odessa Gravette and Zimma Broncati; and two brothers, Clarence Morris and Clifford Morris.

She is survived by one daughter, Evangeline Mullins of Lincoln; two sons, Elmer Morris Searcy and Thomas Lane Searcy of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Searcy, Roger Searcy, Dennis Searcy, Tony Searcy, Jim Mullins and Brandon Nelson.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home will direct the service.

HOMER MORRIS BURTON

ALEXANDER CITY — Funeral service for Homer Morris Burton will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Great Bethel Baptist Church in Alexander City with the Rev. Emerson Ware Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the New Elam #1 Cemetery.

Mr. Burton died Aug. 28 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Bell Burton of Alexander City; eight daughters, Ashley Bates, Carol Bates, Clarisssa Bates and Deborah Bates of New Orleans, La., Pam Burton and Emma Burton of Alexander City and Wendy Burton and Melda Burton of Detroit, Mich.; one son, Morris Bates of New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Annie Ruth Smith of New Orleans, La., and Burnie Burton of California; two step-children, Kim Wright and Lee Wright of Alexander City; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Armour’s Memorial Funeral Home will direct the service.

MARGARET LOUISE DAVIS

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Margaret Louise Davis, 79, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Martin Murray and the Rev. Benny Drummond officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis died Aug. 31 at Citizens BMC. She was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega and was a member of Westside Baptist Church. She was retired from Wehadkee Yarn Mill.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Joey Davis and Charles Spurling.

She is survived by seven daughters, Sandra Spurling, Linda Sims, Teresa Davis, Leigh Ann Goodwin, Karen Phillips and Carolyn Goray of Talladega, and Nancy Caldwell of Eastaboga; two sons, Ronnie Davis of Fort Knox, Ky., and Roger Davis of Oneonta; one sister, Mary Nell Rader of Talladega; one brother, Bud Harvell of Talladega; 22 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

SHIRLEY FAYE DAVIS

SYLACAUGA — Shirley Faye Davis, 64, died Aug. 31.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home.

NETTIE REE HUBBARD

CHILDERSBURG — Funeral service for Nettie Ree Hubbard, 81, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery.

Mrs. Hubbard died Aug. 30 at her residence.

She is survived by one son, Pete Hubbard and wife Jackie of Fairburn, Ga.; two daughters, Barbara Woods and husband Henry of Childersburg and Ann Batista and husband Miguel of Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Bonnie Kleiner and Juanita Davis of Orlando, Fla., and Emily McDaniel of Jasper; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

ANGKANA JESWALD

LINCOLN — Angkana Jeswald, 58, of 3886 Embry Bend Road, died Aug. 31 at Pike Manor Health Care Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.

ELBERT JOHNSON

ALEXANDER CITY — Funeral service for Elbert Johnson, 71, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Darian Baptist Church with the Rev. Troy Holley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Johnson died Aug. 26 at Russell Medical Center.

He is survived by three sons, Robert James Jr. of Alexander City, James Stanley of Fairhope and Byron Jackson of Birmingham; three daughters, Agnes Holmes and Annie Mary Walker of Foley and Marilyn Anderson of Fairhope; one stepdaughter, Luretha Hicks of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Lula Merrell of Chicago; three brothers, Eddie Lee Johnson and Clinton Rudolph of Fairhope and Cecil Rudolph of Griffin, Ind.; three aunts, Martha Green and Annie Williams of Prichard and Ruby Mae Richardson of Belleville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and devoted friend, Pat Edwards of Alexander City.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Armour’s Memorial Funeral Home will direct the service.
