Ellis Wayne Smitherman Services for Ellis Smitherman, 48, of Clanton, will be held today, Feb. 26, at New Hope Assembly of God at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with Reverends Calvin Smitherman and Mark Bolton officiating. Mr. Smitherman, a commercial fisherman, died at his home Feb. 24. Survivors include his wife, Terri Smitherman of Clanton; sons, Randy Smitherman of Auburn, Tommy Smitherman of Clanton, Robby Smitherman of Clanton, Erik Smitherman of Clanton; step-son, Carl Connell of Maplesville; daughter, Rachel Smitherman of Clanton; granddaughters, Alexis Smitherman of Clanton, Melanie Maddox of Clanton, Allie Smitherman of Clanton and Bailee Connell of Maplesville; grandsons, Colby Smitherman of Clanton, Joseph Smitherman of Clanton, Master Connell of Maplesville; brothers, Wilton, Robert and Charles Smitherman of Clanton; sisters, Dollie Hesler, Lamerle Heflin, Myrtice Walker, Shirley Patterson and Everine Minor, all of Clanton. He was the son of Milton and Odie Bell Smitherman.

Funeral services for Elvin Smitherman, 76, of Jemison, were held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at 1 a.m., with Rev. Tom Hilyer and Rev. Ray Smitherman. Burial followed at Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Smitherman was born on July 31, 1925, in Chilton County, the son of Joe and Alvie Smitherman. He was a logger. He died on Sept 6, 2001, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. Survivors include one son, Johnny Smitherman, Jemison, one daughter-in-law, Fredia Smitherman, Jemison; one daughter, Gail Avery, Jemison; five step-sons, Ted Giles and Ollie Lamar, both of Jemison, Ray Giles, Thorsby, Carl Lamar, Clanton, and Kenneth Giles, Mobile; one step-daughter, Mary Arnold, Columbiana; one sister, Dean Mims, Verbena; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Smitherman.

Graveside services for Gracie L. Smitherman, 89, Jemison, will be held at Randolph Baptist Cemetery on Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bobby Smitherman officiating and Martin Funeral Home directing. Smitherman was born on May 31, 1912, in Alabama, the daughter of the late William J. Henderson and the late Mary M. Henderson. She was a homemaker. She died at Marbury Resurrection Catholic Nursing Home on March 30, 2002. Survivors include five daughters, Christine Hoggle, Burnsville, Mary Pierce, Wheat Ridge, Colo., Mae Cyree, McCloud, Okla., Arlene Thrower, Jemison, Madelyn Davis, Verbena; six sons, L. B. Burial followed at Randolph Baptist Cemetery. Born on Jan. 12, 1921 to Horace Smitherman and Sedruthera Smitherman, he died April 3, 2003 at Bibb Co. Nursing Home in Centreville. Survivors include his wife Hazel Smitherman of Randolph; son Richard Smitherman of Centreville; daughter Peggy Langford of Lawley; brothers Grover Smitherman of Randolph and Floyd Smitherman of Randolph; granddaughters Amy Tyus of Lawley and Wendy Smitherman of Centreville; grandsons, Matt Langford of Lawley and Rocky Smitherman of Korea; great-grandchildren Joshua Tyus of Lawley, Jeremay Tyus of Lawley, Hannah Tyus of Lawley and Rebecca Langford of Lawley.

Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, from 5-8 p.m. Smitherman was born on July 14, 1917, in Chilton County, the son of the late Joseph and Daisy Mae Smitherman. He was a coal miner. He died on Nov. 3, 1999. Survivors include one daughter, Ritza Spears, Westwood; one step-son, Larry Smith, Utah; three sons, Terry Smitherman and Jimmy Smitherman, both of Dora, and Roy Smitherman, Warrior; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker. She died on May 28, 2001, at Chilton Medical Center in Clanton. Survivors include one husband, T. J. Holston, Clanton; one daughter, Vicky Cleckler, Clanton; two grandchildren; Brandy Cleckler and Jeffery Cleckler, both of Clanton; one great-grandchild, Bailey Cleckler, Clanton; and one sister Alice Garrett, Clanton.

Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton. Born on Sept 7, 1907 to Walter Knight and Arrie Knight, she died June 17, 2003 at her residence in Clanton. Survivors include her daughters Louise Smith of Clanton and Lula Bell Cleckley of Clanton; sons Walter Smitherman of Clanton and Claudie "Shag" Smitherman of Clanton; sister Lila Bates of Boswell, Ga.; numerous grand, great-grand and great-great grandchildren.

Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Maplesville, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Lovelady was born on Dec. 24, 1918, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Rube and Clara Smitherman. She was a seamstress. She died on July 27, 1999, at her residence. Survivors include three sons, Larry Lovelady and Bill Lovelady, both of Selma, and Roger Lovelady, Spartanburg, S.C. three daughters, Pat Moore, Barbara Crocker and Sheila Wright, all of Maplesville, 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd David Lovelady and one daughter Peggy L. Wimberly.

Funeral and burial services for Thomas Edward Smitherman, Sr., 65, of Verbena, were held on Thursday, June 26, 1997 at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Jemison at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Calvin Smitherman officiating and the Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Smitherman was born in Alabama on October 13, 1931 to the late Joseph E. Smitherman and Alvie Hand Smitherman. He died in Verbena on June 23, 1997. He is survived by four daughters and four sons, Jan Wilks, Hoover; Judy Dilday, Montgomery; Barbara Burt, Grandbury, Texas; Lura Swanner, Montgomery; Thomas Smitherman, Jr., Grandbury, Texas; Eugene Smitherman, Colorado, Kennithe Smitherman and Michael Smitherman, Clanton; a sister and a brother: Mrs. Dean Mims, Verbena; Elvin Smitherman, Clanton; and eight grandchildren.

Snell, Betty Jo (Foshee)
July 16, 1928 - July 29, 1999
Funeral services for Betty (Foshee) Snell, 71, Montgomery, were held on Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Greenwood Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Miller officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery, with Greenwood Funeral Home Foshee was the daughter of Sie and Cleo Foshee of Clanton. She also had two brothers, James King Foshee of Temple, Texas, and the late Jimmy Foshee of Clanton. She was a graduate of Chilton County High School and a member of the Catoma Baptist Church in Montgomery. She was retired from employment with the State of Alabama having worked with the state Department of Industrial Relations for over 35 years. She died on Thursday, July 29, 1999, in an automobile accident in the northwest of Georgia on I-59 along with two other occupants of the vehicle. Survivors include one son, Richard Snell, Montgomery; one daughter, Suzanne Broner, Hansen, Idaho; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Burial will follow at Martin Memorial Cemetery. Born on Jan. 26, 1913 to Albert O. Snider and Mattie Bell Snider of Coosa County, she died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Lee H. Powell of Clanton; son Myrian Powell of Clanton; brother Leon Snider; sister Jean Miklic of Bessemer; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas Eugene Carter, William Edward Carter, and Charles Earnest Carter, all of Maplesville; three daughters, Louise Smitherman and Shirley Smitherman, both of Maplesville, and Syble Ahlberg, Clanton; five step-daughters, Marie Hayes and Kate Rhodes, both of Maplesville, Margie Rhodes, Plantersville, Nancy Capitana, Stanton, and Ruthie McDaniel, Billingsley; three step-sons, Clyde Carter, Billingsley, Bill Carter, Selma, Gordon Carter, Plantersville; three brothers, Ed Spigner, Wiley Spigner, and Aubrey Lee Spigner, all of Maplesville; and one sister, Frances Davenport, Maplesville.

She died Dec. 5. She was born on July 29, 1914 in Lawley. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Birmingham. She is survived by her children, Charles Williams of Bradenton, Fla., Edwin Williams of Birmingham, Phillip Williams of Catawba, N.C., and Larry Williams of Warrenville, S.C. She is also survived by her brother Brant Williams of St. James City, Fla in addition to 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
