CARL CURTIS HARRISON

TALLADEGA Funeral service for Carl Curtis (Kayo) Harrison, 54, will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Talladega with the Rev. Jeffery Sims officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Harrison died Sept. 1 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair. A native and lifelong resident of Talladega, he was previously a painter and was disabled. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Fowler Harrison.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret Dison Harrison of Oxford; sister, Joan Harrison Woodard and husband, Larry A. Woodard Sr. of Jacksonville; uncles, John P. Dison of Sylacauga, Carl P. Dison and wife Joyce, James A. Dison and wife Charles Ann of Talladega, Lloyd L. Thompson of Orlando, Fla., and Sidney E. Robertson of Munford; aunts, Berneese Dison McRae of Hamilton, Mary Dison Usher and husband Alex J. Usher of Birmingham, Martha Dison Robinson of Abbeville, Ga., Mildred H. Day, Nell H. Vincent and husband Louie of Talladega and Evelyn H. Boone of Milledgeville, Ga.; nephew, Larry A. Woodard Jr. of Montevallo; and 30 cousins.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

GLADYS ELIZABETH PARRETT

TALLADEGA Gladys Elizabeth Parrett, 81, died Sept. 2 at Sunset Inn in Talladega.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

CLARENCE PATTERSON

ALEXANDER CITY Memorial service for Clarence Patterson, 78, will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at Sprigg Freewill Baptist Church in Williamson, West Va., with the Rev. Vint Arnold officiating.

Mr. Patterson died Sept. 1 in Alexander City. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a retired maintenance supervisor with the hotel industry.

He is survived by daughters, Sheila Broadman of Reno, Nev., and Patricia A. Croston of Zanesville, Ohio; sister, Clemma Cupp of Chesapeak, Va.; brothers, Bob Patterson of Stockton, Calif., Russell Patterson of Pasedena, Md., Herbert Patterson of Akron, Ohio and Charlie Patterson of Pasedena, Md.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Usrey-Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Pell City will be in charge of the arrangements.

IOLA M. SEARCY

LINCOLN Funeral service for Iola M. Searcy, 86, was Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home chapel with Brother Harvey Bowlin Sr. officiating. Burial was in Midway Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Searcy died Aug. 31 at Citizens Baptist Medical Center. She was a native of Jefferson County and had been a resident of Talladega County for most of her life. She worked in the textile industry for many years and was a house parent at the Presbyterian Home for several years. She was a member of Lincoln Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jewell Elmer Searcy; three sisters, Pearl Shows, Odessa Gravette and Zimma Broncati; and two brothers, Clarence Morris and Clifford Morris.

She is survived by daughter, Evangeline Mullins of Lincoln; sons, Elmer Morris Searcy and Thomas Lane Searcy of Lincoln; sisters, Irene Tomlin and Mavis Clark of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Duane Searcy, Roger Searcy, Dennis Searcy, Tony Searcy, Jim Mullins and Brandon Nelson.

Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home directed the service.

RUTH AKLES

DELTA Funeral service for Ruth Akles, 79, of Delta will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Canaan Baptist Church in Heflin with the Rev. Edward E. Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Chulafinnee Cemetery in Heflin.

Mrs. Akles died Aug. 29 at Wellstar Cobb General Hospital in Austell, Ga.

She is survived by three sons, Larry Akles of Fayetteville, N.C., Terry Akles and Clyde Akles of Delta; three daughters, Ada (John) Watts of Douglasville, Ga., Gertrude (Dewitt) Moore of Detroit, Mich., and Linda Akles of Douglasville, Ga.; four sisters, Vera Coleman and Bertha Lauderdale of Anniston, Ann Landers of Lineville and Janet Craig of Fayetteville, N.C.; five brothers, Willie Clyde Davenport of Santa Ana, Calif., Arthur Davenport and Charles Davenport of Fayetteville, N.C., Paul Davenport of Goodwater and Leonard Davenport of Ashland; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Ervin Funeral Chapel will direct the service.

GEORGE TAYLOR CAPERTON JR.

WEOGUFKA Funeral service for George Taylor Caperton Jr., 78, will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Weogufka 2nd Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Moore officiating. Burial will be in Weogufka 2nd Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Caperton died Sept. 1 at Medical Center East. He attended Columbia Business College in Columbia, Tenn., and was a native of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Ward Caperton of Weogufka; daughter, Geneva Ramona Caperton of Victoria, British Columbia; son, Lloyd Alan Caperton of Weogufka; sister, Janelle Schwein of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, Kenneth A. Caperton of Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The body may be viewed Thursday from 2 until 3 p.m. at the church.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home South Chapel will direct the service.

RENA BROWN LEE

CHILDERSBURG Rena Brown Lee, 64, 100 Booker Road, Childersburg, died Sept. 3 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

MARGARET PORTER CARROLL

ASHLAND Funeral service for Margaret Porter Carroll, 73, of Ashland will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Ashland with the Rev. Tommy Young officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Lineville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Carroll died Sept. 2 at Clay County Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, a homemaker and a Pentecostal by faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Carroll.

She is survived by three daughters, Peggy A. Kennedy of Cragford, Deborah Ray of Villa Rica, Ga., and Angela Faye Carroll of Elmore; two sons, William Alex Carroll of Clanton and Michael Carroll of Prattville; one sister, Myrtis Smith of Opp; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Kennedy, Bill Carroll, Mark Kytan, Jack Denham, Dewey Clifton, Morris Williams and Emil Jordan.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home until service time Thursday.

Benefield Funeral Home will direct the service.

NITA CURL MARTIN

VESTAVIA HILLS Graveside service for Nita Curl Martin, 70, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Parrish officiating.

Mrs. Martin died Sept. 2 at University Hospital in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.E. and Lila Curl; her husband, John H. Martin; and a brother, Conrad Curl. She attended Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by son, John H. Martin III of Fairhope; daughter, Mary Martin Riser of Daphnee; brothers, Edsel Curl (Dean) of Gadsden and Kedy Curl (Olive Ann) of Jackson, Tenn.; sister, Wanda L. Curl of Vestavia; sister-in-law, Dorothy Curl of Huntsville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday from noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church or to the Parkinson Disease Association.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

GLADYS ELIZABETH PARRETT

TALLADEGA Funeral service for Gladys Elizabeth Parrett, 85, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Freddie Edwards and the Rev. Don Graves officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Mrs. Parrett died Sept. 2 at Sunset Inn in Talladega. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson Parrett.

She is survived by daughters, Dolores Parker and husband Charles Parker of Childersburg and Glenda Sherum and husband Roy Sherum of Sylacauga; grandchildren, Mandy Parker of Sylacauga, Hal Parker and wife Jean Parker of St. Louis, Mo., and Neal Walker and wife Cindy Walker of Alexander City; great-grandchildren, Drew Parker, Derek Walker, Jordan Walker, Eric Walker and Brady Walker; and sisters, Virginia Carr, Maebell Dawson and Magdalene Pardue of Vincent.

Special thanks to the staff of Sunset Inn, Talladega and Southern Care Hospice, especially Gwen Murphy, Tim Riddlehoover, Arnold Shaw, Vicky Southern and Beverly Scott.

The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 137 Franklin St., Alexander City, Ala., 35010.

Pallbearers will be Hal Parker, Neal Walker, Mandy Parker, Jack Parrett, Marvin Gober and Jerry Thompson.
