EUGENE BARNARD JOHNSON

ANNISTON Funeral service for Eugene Barnard (Rooster) Johnson, 43, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Anniston with the Rev. J.E. Merriweather officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Anniston.

Mr. Johnson died Oct. 14 in Oxford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army with more than 20 years of service and was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a member of American Legion Post 312 and was an employee of ITC Delta Com.

He is survived by his wife, Anitra Johnson of Anniston; sons, Adrian Johnson of Leroy, A.J. Johnson of Jacksonville, Eugene Johnson Jr. of Anniston and Devion Johnson of Anniston; sisters, Jerie Johnson Wilson and Stacy Johnson of Montgomery; brothers, Jackie Roy Johnson and Billy D. Johnson of Leroy and Larry Johnson of Marietta, Ga.; and his parents, James Johnson and Lillian Johnson of Leroy.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Pallbearers will be Chester Williams, Erie Phillips, Lyon Edmondson, Teddy Walverton, Aaron Stanley and Chaz Barclay.

American Legion Post No. 312 will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Anniston Funeral Service will direct the service.

ROBERT LEE

TALLADEGA Robert Lee, 54, of 3997 Plant Road, died Oct. 19 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.

DOROTHY LONG

ANNISTON Dorothy Long, 69, died Oct. 19 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Service.

EARL DOUGLAS McBURNETT

LINCOLN Funeral service for Earl Douglas McBurnett, 73, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Dry Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Jacky Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Dry Valley Baptist Cemetery in Lincoln.

Mr. McBurnett died Oct. 19 at Citizens BMC. He was a native and lifelong resident of Lincoln and was a member of Dry Valley Baptist Church. He was retired from Anniston Army Depot and the Alabama Army National Guard. He was a graduate of Jacksonville University. He worked as a security guard at Talladega International MotorSpeedway.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean McBurnett of Lincoln; daughter, Debra Jean Clark of Talladega; son, Mike McBurnett of Lincoln; sister, Ina Hoskinson of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Casey Clark, Gary Clark, Mike Tyson, Corey McBurnett, Chris McBurnett and Jeff Haynes.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

RUDY NELSON

CHILDERSBURG Funeral service for Rudy Nelson, 71, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg chapel with Pastor Byron White and the Rev. John Vircgilo officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Nelson died Oct. 19 at his residence. He was retired from Kimberly Clark with 33 years of service and was retired from the Alabama National Guard with 28 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Nelson of Childersburg; sons, Scott Nelson and wife Rhonda, Randy Nelson and wife Woni and Ben Nelson and wife Connie, all of Childersburg; sisters, Ann Whaley and Maudine Foster of Wedowee and Peggy Lombardo of Huntsville; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at te funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Lester, John Ragen, Mickey Hollis, John Allen, Durwood Bennett, Mack Chappell, Willie Young and Sam Pruitt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Nelson and Thomas Nelson.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

JOHNNIE COZELL PRESSLEY

TALLADEGA Funeral service for Johnnie Cozell Pressley, 74, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel with Dr. George Ricker officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Pressley died Oct. 19 at Talladega Health Care Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was former owner and operator of Kwik Janitorial Service. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Pressley.

He is survived by sons, John M. Pressley of Talladega, Alan Pressley, Larry K. Pressley and Ronald W. Pressley of Newburgh, Ind.; brother, Reginald Pressley of Tocoa, Ga.; and 11 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Joey Peters, Larry Lashley and Mark Owsley.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

RUFUS RANSAW

ALEXANDER CITY Funeral service for Rufus Ransaw will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Darian Baptist Church in Alexander City with the Rev. Troy Holley officiating. Burial will be in Armour's Memorial Gardens in Alexander City.

Mr. Ransaw died Oct. 15 at University Hospital in Birmingham. He was born Aug. 12, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Sr. and Ruby Smith Ransaw.

He is survived by sisters, Linnie Sue Ransaw of Alexander City and Gloria Dorsey of Montgomery; brother, Stanley Ransaw; and a host of other relatives.

Armour's Memorial Funeral Home in Alexander City will direct the service.

HANNAH ELIZABETH TYLER

SYLACAUGA Funeral service for Hannah Elizabeth Tyler, 86, was Monday at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Tyler died Oct. 18 at Coosa Valley Baptist Nursing Home. She was a Baptist by faith.

She is survived by sons, Billy Tyler and wife Carolyn, Donald Tyler and wife Nita, Bobby Tyler and wife Barbara, Roger Tyler and wife Nell and Gary Tyler and wife Sherry of Sylacauga and Jackie Tyler and wife Annie of Talladega; daughter, Gail Roland and husband Bobby Sr. of Sylacauga; sister, Mattie Lou Young of Rome, Ga.; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel directed the service.

REGINALD JOE KELLY SR.

TALLADEGA Funeral service for Reginald Joe Kelly Sr., 46, of 708 Elm St., Apartment E, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Kelly Springs Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. L.L. Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Kelly Springs Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Kelly died Oct. 20 at Citizens BMC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Cook and Susie Pearl Kelly. He was a graduate of Childersburg High School, was employed by Georgia-Pacific Corporation and attended Kelly Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by sons, Reginald Joe Kelly Jr. of Anniston and Jo'Tarion Kelly and Tarquez Kelly of Talladega; special friend, Tammy Embry of Talladega; sisters, Lizzie Kelly Ervin, Clovia Kelly, Carolyn Kelly Roston and Cynthia D. Kelly of Talladega, Mary L. Davis of Dale City, Va., Mattie Cook of Sylacauga and Irene Cook and Betty Cook of Memphis, Tenn.; and brothers, Willie V. Kelly and twin brother Rodney Kelly of Talladega, Clarence Cook and J. Perry Cook of Sylacauga, Benjamin Cook of Kentucky, Sylvester Vincent of Knoxville, Tenn., Robert Lee Vincent of New York and Matthew Cook of Sylacauga.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Employees of Georgia-Pacific Corporation will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

ROBERT BLACKMON

ANNISTON Robert Blackmon, 79, died Oct. 22 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital in Anniston.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Service.

FRANKLIN BLANKENSHIP SR.

TALLADEGA Graveside service for Franklin "Bud" Blankenship Sr., 72, will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Germany Mountain Cemetery in Talladega with the Rev. Bill Huffaker officiating.

Mr. Blankenship died Oct. 21 at his residence. He was a native of Clay County and lived in Talladega County most of is life. He was a member of Craigdale Baptist Church and worked in the logging industry all of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie J. Blankenship of Talladega; daughters, Rita Sargent of Talladega, Brenda Hammonds of Talladega, Donna Bullock of Ohatchee and Janice Blankenship of Pell City; son, Frankie Blankenship of Talladega; sister, Claudine Cheatwood of Montgomery; brother, Clyde Blankenship of Talladega; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Brian Sargent, Clayton Sargent, Josh Blankenship, Anthony Bullock, Tommy Machen and Phillip Bullock.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Sargent, Chad Cochran and Greg Adderhold.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

LYMAN WARREN CLARDY

MANHATTAN, N.Y. Memorial service for Lyman Warren Clardy, 91, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Gandy officiating. Private burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Clardy died Oct. 11. He was a native of Talladega and was the son of William Harry and Kate Hightower Clardy. He was a 1934 graduate of Davidson College with a BBA and a 1936 graduate of Harvard School of Business with a Masters Degree. He enlisted as a Naval officer in May of 1942, serving as commander Naval Air Priorities being charged with organizing transportation aboard commercial aircraft that had been commandeered by the government during World War II and was released from active duty in March of 1946. He retired from Naval Reserve as Lt. Commander in 1962.

He was the producer of the hit radio program "Music til Dawn" for 23 years, was director of the Arthur Godfrey Radio Show and was a model for a Camel cigarette ad at Times Square starting in 1940. He was a soldier who blew smoke rings the size of clouds into Times Square. He found great humor in the fact that he never smoked a cigarette in his life to achieve the pose for the billboard, the artist had him put a pencil in his mouth. He was paid a total of $5 for this modeling job. The next year they changed the uniform to a sailor, still using Lyman as model, and retired in 1962. He was a volunteer in blood donor programs for almost 40 years at Lenox Hill and Memorial-Sloan-Kettering Hospitals and at least a day a week volunteered reading to the blind at The Lighthouse.

He is survived by cousins, Mary Catherine Nicol of Arab and Martha Williams of Talladega.
