RALPH E. PODY

PIEDMONT — Funeral service for Ralph E. Pody, 76, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Coosa County with Gary McCurdy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Pody died Feb. 25 at his residence. He was a native of Coosa County and had lived in Piedmont for the past 47 years. He was a United States Army Korean War veteran and retired from Kimberly Clark Corporation as a Woodland Management Supervisor with 40 years of service. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Piedmont Fire Department for 28 years. He was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents, James D. and Ester Pody; sister, Bernice Gather; and brothers, J.C. Pody and Kenny Pody.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn E. Pody of Piedmont; daughters, Cathy Pody Martin of Piedmont and Dawn Pody Hammett of Alexandria; sons, Mike Pody and Carlton Pody of Piedmont; brothers, Sherell Pody and Cliff Pody of Weogufka and Stewart Pody of Sylacauga; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Kirkpatrick, Keith Pace, Tommy Vansant, Jimmy Trammell, Vernon Young, Stanley McFry, Johnny Martin, Johnny Woods and Jim Smallwood.

Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to the Piedmont Fire Department, 312 N. Center Ave., Piedmont, Ala., 36272 or Piedmont Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 333, Piedmont, Ala., 36272.

Thompson Funeral Home will direct the service.

LOUVELLA RANSAW

ALEXANDER CITY — Louvella Ransaw died Feb. 25 at her residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright’s Funeral Home.

EMORY AUSTELL VAUGHAN

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Emory Austell Vaughan, 83, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Joel R. Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Vaughan died Feb. 24.

He is survived by his wife, Vada Phillips Vaughan; brothers, Howard (Dobb) Vaughan, Harold Vaughan and Kenton Vaughan; sister, Milliscent Bivens; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harkey’s Chapel Cemetery Fund.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

MYRTLE WYATT

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Myrtle Wyatt, 78, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Broadway Church of Christ with Minister Buck Hall officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Wyatt died Feb. 23 at her residence. She was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. After meeting her future husband during World War II, she came to America and was wed on July 5, 1946. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ for more than 50 years. She conducted numerous Bible studies in her home and in her congregation. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, John Andrew Wyatt.

She is survived by daughters, Lynne Griffies and husband Allen of Prattville, Janet Stowe of Raleigh, N.C., and Donna Wyatt of Chapel Hill, N.C.; sisters, Dorothy Jones and Joan Postlethwaite of England; grandchildren, Jeri Gloege, Tony Griffies, Josh Stowe, Jason Isbell and Matt Griffies; great-grandchild, Drue Gloege; and special friends, Tony and Bobby Isbell.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5:30 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Tony Griffies, Josh Stowe, Jason Isbell, Matt Griffies, Tony Isbell and Jon Atchison.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Watson, T.J. Payton, Brian Dicks, Rennie Edmunds, Bill Gooch and Joe Holland.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Broadway Church of Christ.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

BARBARA JEAN BANKS
TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Barbara Jean (Babs) Banks, 56, of 3714 Howell Cove Road, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sycamore Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jessie Montgomery Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Sycamore Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Banks died Feb. 21 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her father, Justice A. Banks Sr.; and brother, Richard C. Banks. She was a former independent business owner in Chicago, Ill., and later moved to Huntsville where she joined the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her mother, Odelle T. Banks of Talladega; sisters, Pamela S. Johnson of Talladega, Adisa Banks of Los Angeles, Calif., and Denise Beavers of Talladega; and brothers, Justice A. Banks Jr. of New York, N.Y., and Phillip Banks of Houston, Texas.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Pallbearers will be Al Mitchell, Bobby Moore, Brian Miller, Eugene Garlington, Cecil Miller and Sylvester Edmondson.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

CHARLES EDWARD JAMES

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Charles Edward (Bae Bae) James, 57, of 206 East Sloan Ave., will be Saturday at noon at DeForest Chapel on Talladega College campus with the Rev. Richard Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. James died Feb. 19 at Citizens Baptist Medical Center. He was a member of Peace Baptist Church, attended Westside High School and was formerly employed at Talladega Foundry, Riteway Machine in Pell City and Industries for the Blind. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer James Sr. and Velma Bradford James; and a brother, John Otis James.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley B. Willis James of Talladega; daughters, Yolanda Curry of Talladega and Kimberly Moss of Sylacauga; stepdaughters, Tonya Drummer, Sonya Smith and Angela Mickens of Atlanta, Ga.; son, Anthony Turner of Talladega; stepson, Derrick Ruffin of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Mattie Welch and Mary Pryor of Talladega and Shirley Garrett of Los Angeles, Calif.; brothers, Homer James Jr. of Denver, Colo., Willie James of Anniston and Julius James of Talladega; and 18 grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Pallbearers will be Perry Welch, Cortney Turner, Marcellus Welch, Antonio Turner, Jeremy Welch, Jimmy Elston, Anthony Barclay and Andrew Curry Jr.

BRUNETTA KIRKSEY O'NEAL

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Brunetta Kirksey O'Neal, 50, of 517 West Coosa St., will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Peace Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Rochelle J. Hall officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park.

Ms. O'Neal died Feb. 22 at 131 Broadway Ave. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Kirksey; and sister, Marion Threatt. She was a Matron and member of the Hospitality Committee of Peace Missionary Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Avondale Mills.

She is survived by daughters, Yashicia O'Neal, Sheretta O'Neal and Larissa O'Neal of Talladega; son, Kadeem O'Neal of Talladega; sisters, Ann Marie Simmons of Anniston, Effie Payne of Lincoln, Mary Elizabeth Kirksey of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dorothy Bradford and Shirley Curry of Talladega and Brenda Curry of Detroit, Mich.; and five grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be K.D. Dickerson, Richard Rogers, Billy Joe Player, Joseph Long, Howard Shelton and Wayne Garrett.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

THELMA LOUISE WELLS

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Thelma Louise Wells, 72, of 53 Knoxville Homes, will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Jacobs Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with Pastor W. Clinton Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Wells died Feb. 23 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her father, Ivey Hicks. She was a member of Jacobs Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Missionary Society, Women of Grace and was a kitchen hostess. She attended Westside High School, was a volunteer at the Samaritan House and was retired from Citizens Baptist Medical Center.

She is survived by daughters, Devan Jones of Detroit, Mich., Debbie Baker of Tampa, Fla., Sarah Briskey and Pamela Lykes of Leavenworth, Kan., and Vikki Gaddis of Talladega; son, Patrick Wells of Birmingham; her mother, Mildred Haley of Talladega; sisters, Velma Hammond of Detroit, Mich., Diane Coleman of Omaha, Neb., and Ernestine Moore of Talladega; brother, Harvey Haley of Sylacauga; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

HOLLIS L. ASHWORTH

GOODWATER — Funeral service for Hollis L. Ashworth, 81, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hollins Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Cooper and the Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Ashworth died Feb. 26 at his residence. He was born in Coosa County and was a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Ruth Ashworth; and his parents, Louie and Lera Mann Ashworth.

He is survived by sons, John W. Ashworth, Thomas G. Ashworth and Robert E. Ashworth of Goodwater and Louie D. Ashworth of Atlanta, Ga.; and daughters, Linda F. McDonald and Martha R. Franklin of Atlanta, Ga., and Brenda G. Williams of Etowah County.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Heritage Chapel Funeral Home in Alexander City will direct the service.

CLINTON BEAVERS

DETROIT, Mich. — Clinton Beavers, 47, formerly of Talladega, died Feb. 24 at Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.
