MINISTER CAROLYN MORGAN HESTER

TALLADEGA Funeral service for Minister Carolyn Morgan Hester, 43, of 4375 Allison Mill Road, will be Thursday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m. at Rushing Springs Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence Woodward officiating. Burial will be in Rushing Springs Cemetery.

Minister Hester died Sept. 20 at Citizens BMC. She was preceded in death by her father, Grady Morgan Sr. She was a graduate of Talladega County Central High School and attended Central Alabama Community College. She was associate pastor of Rushing Springs Baptist Church, where she was also president of the Missionary Society. She was vice president of the adult choir, was a Sunday school teacher for the young adults and was formerly employed by Crown Textiles and First House Chinese Restaurant.

She is survived by her husband, Shenick Hester Sr. of Talladega; daughters, Latolia Stockdale Curry, TeJarris L. Stockdale, Sheneka W. Moten, Shanyail L. Hester, Yolanda R. Hester and Jasmine B. Stockdale, all of Talladega; sons, Korvorkius D. Stockdale, Steven L. Hester and Shenick Hester Jr., all of Talladega; her mother, Willie Mae Morgan of Talladega; sisters, Betty Welch, Shirley Calhoun, Quinzella English and Jennifer McKenzie, all of Talladega; brothers, Charlie Morgan, Grady Morgan Jr., David Morgan and Bruce Morgan, all of Talladega and Willie Joe Morgan of Miami, Fla.; and 16 grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

CARLAZIA YVELL O'NEAL

SYLACAUGA Funeral service for infant Carlazia Yvell (Lala) O'Neal, 2 months, will be Thursday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m. at Community Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Erastus Godfrey officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Infant O'Neal died Sept. 19 at The Children's Hospital in Birmingham.

She is survived by her mother, Yashica O'Neal of Sylacauga; her father, Carlo Owens of Sylacauga; her grandparents, Paul and Henrietta Banks of Sylacauga and Richard and Olivia Shealey of Goodwater; sisters, Yasmin and Enana O'Neal of Sylacauga and Brianna Brown of Goodwater; brothers, Ranona Shealey and Xavier Owens of Goodwater; and a host of other relatives.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from noon until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers and flowerbearers.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

SANDRA KAREN Jackson DOWNS

ROCKFORD Funeral service for Sandra Karen Jackson Downs, 47, will be Thursday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. at Sardis Baptist Church near Kelly's Crossroads. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Renfroe.

Mrs. Downs died Sept. 18 at her residence.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Radney Funeral Home in Alexander City will direct the service.

ROSA CAROLYN FERGUSON

COOK SPRINGS Funeral service for Rosa Carolyn Ferguson, 62, will be Thursday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m. at Cook Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Mrs. Ferguson died Sept. 20.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Ferguson; sons, Richard Ferguson Jr., Daniel Ferguson and Daniel Ferguson Jr.; daughters, Rose Cox, Bertha Murner and Peggy Ferguson; brother, Donald Dunaway; sisters, Bertie Lee Brasher, Martha Cloud and Rosa Lee Campbell; and 13 grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

HERMAN FREEMAN

LINCOLN Graveside service for Herman Freeman, 62, will be Friday, Sept. 24, at noon.

Mr. Freeman died Sept. 21 at his residence.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Miller Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

DEWEY LOCKHART

DALLAS, Texas Dewey "Kent" Lockhart, age 51 of Dallas, Texas died Saturday, September 18, 2004 after receiving open heart surgery. He was a graduate of Childersburg High School and attended Auburn University.

He is survived by his daughter, Erika Lockhart Head; grandson, Colton Head; sister, Diana Lockhart Rowland and her husband Hugh Rowland; niece, Courtney Rowland Nice; nephew, Graham Rowland; and a host of friends.

The following quote sums up the life he led.

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critiques and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. GUSSIE MAE SNIDER

ROCKFORD Graveside service for Miss Gussie Mae Snider were held Sunday, Sept. 19 at 3 p.m. in Rockford Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Gandy officiated.

Miss Snider died Sept. 15 at Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega. She was a native of Coosa County and lived in Talladega most of her life. She attended Samford University and graduated from Jacksonville State University. She retired from the Alabama Institutes for the Deaf and Blind after 40 years of service. In 1987, she was presented with the Charles B. Grider Award in appreciation for her devotion, dedication and outstanding service to the blind of Alabama. She spearheaded the Alabama Institute for Blind Girl Scouts, and was a member of the AAUW. She was a charter member of BPW and held several offices. She was elected to the international honorary sorority for women in education, Alpha Delta Kappa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, R.O. and Edna Snider; a brother, Julius L. Snider; and a sister, Lettie S. Stone.

She is survived by two nieces, Sylvia Stone of Urbana, Ill., and Willadene S. Kane of Birmingham; and a great niece, Valerie L. White of Glen Ridge, N.J.

The family received friends Saturday, Sept. 18 at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega.

Usrey Funeral Home directed the service.

LONNIE L. WATTS JR.

TALLADEGA Funeral service for Lonnie L. Watts Jr., 74, will be Sunday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega with Dr. Ferrell Morris, Dr. Clyde Rogers and Dr. Curtis Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Watts died Friday at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. A caring father and devoted husband for 50 years, he was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega and retired from Cyanamid Corp. in Childersburg. He served as a telecommunications operator for four years during the Korean War. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and a member and deacon of Southside Baptist Church, where he served on most committees and was a member of the Joy Club. He was also a member of the Zamora Temple Shrine, and members of the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple 261 will take part in the service.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Henley and Johnnie Dean Anderson; one brother, Robert Watts; and his parents, Lonnie Watts Sr. and Frankie Watts.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Eugenia Watts of Talladega; one daughter, Regina Watts of Talladega; two sisters, Lula Mae Dodson of Sylacauga and Mary Haynes of Talladega; and one brother, Jack Watts, of Irvington.

Active pallbearers will be Doyle Smith, Josh Parris, Chet Cameron, John Mock, Ricky Haywood, Jim Golman, Keith Martin, Kenny Martin and Cleve Hamlin.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Southside Baptist Church, Cordial Luker, Eloise Burgess, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hardy, Doug and Susan Anderson and members of Masonic Lodge 261, Talladega.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

JOSIE MAE GUNN

TALLADEGA Funeral service for Mrs. Josie Mae Gunn, 81, of 5765 DeGiverville Street, St. Louis, will be Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at Harmony Street Baptist Church in Birmingham with Rev. Slaughter officiating. Burial will follow in Rushing Springs Cemetery in Talladega.

Mrs. Gunn died Wednesday at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. A former member of the Sycamore Baptist Church in Talladega, she lived in Birmingham for 48 years. There, she was a member of the Harmony Street Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and the missionary society. She retired from Brookwood Medical Center.

She is survived by her son, Dock Gunn of St. Louis, and her sister, Dazarene Hall of Talladega.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.
