RUBY ALMA WALLACE BAXLEY

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Ruby Alma Wallace Baxley, 92, will be Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with Donnie Blackmon officiating. Burial will be in Fayetteville Methodist Cemetery.

Mrs. Baxley died Oct. 3 at Coosa Valley Nursing Home in Sylacauga. She was a lifelong resident of Talladega County and was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was loved and respected by all of those she came in contact with. She was a homemaker and an avid quilter. She was a Holiness by faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Thomas Baxley; son, James Felix Baxley; her parents, L.P. Bud Wallace; sisters, Georgia Mae Wallace and Onie Willis; and brothers, Garland Wallace and Paul Wallace.

She is survived by son, Thomas Claude Baxley and wife Brenda of Childersburg; daughters, Shirley Cleckler and husband Bill of Birmingham and Helen Franklin of Sylacauga; daughter-in-law, Sue Baxley of Sylacauga; sisters, Margie Moon of Sylacauga and Evelyn Roberson of Talladega Springs; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Ragsdale, Tim Roberson, Carey Roberson, Gene Wallace, Charlie Gamble and Michael Ricks.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

COLVIN BOLEWARE

ALEXANDER CITY — Colvin (Carl) Boleware died Oct. 5 at Russell Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Armour’s Memorial Funeral Home.

MARY CAROTHERS

CHILDERSBURG — Mary Carothers, 87, died Oct. 5 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home.

BUD DeSHAZO

LEEDS — Funeral service for Bud DeShazo, 84, will be Thursday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Leeds. Burial will be in Bold Springs Cemetery.

Mr. DeShazo died Oct. 4. He was a deacon and charter member of Valley View Baptist Church. He was a member of Leeds Masonic Lodge No. 448 and was a World War II veteran. He was past owner of DeShazo Shell Station in Leeds and DeShazo Dairy Farms.

He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae DeShazo; daughters, Mary Jo Anderson and Lou Dixon; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds will direct the service.

SIM C. EMBRY JR.

VINCENT — Funeral service for Sim C. Embry Jr., 85, will be Saturday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. at Vincent United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Hollis officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia North Cemetery.

Mr. Embry died Oct. 5. He was born March 30, 1919, in Calcis. He was a member of Vincent Methodist Church and a World War II veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Embry; daughter, Suzette Embry; son, Dick Van Embry; two grandsons; brother, A.G. Embry; sister, Wadeen Justice; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends for one hour before the service at the church.

Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home in Columbiana will direct the service.

SARAH ELIZABETH JORDAN

LINCOLN — Sarah Elizabeth Jordan, 82, died Oct. 4 at her residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega.

MARY RUTH SMITH

BIRMINGHAM — Graveside service for Mary Ruth Smith, 80, will be Thursday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. in Eureka Methodist Church Cemetery in Lincoln.

Mrs. Smith died Oct. 4. She was a member of Center Point Eastern Star No. 416. She worked as a welder in World War II and volunteered at the Red Door Kitchen in Talladega and also volunteered as an accountant for the Eureka Fire Department.

She is survived by her husband, Otis A. (Foots) Smith; daughters, Sandra Ruth Smith and Lynn Klaustermeier; and sister, Eva McLaughlin.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ridout’s Trussville Chapel will direct the service.

ANDREW JEMISON

TALLADEGA – Funeral service for Andrew Jemison, 97, of 290 Chatman Lane, will be Friday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m. at Sycamore Baptist Church with Dr. Jesse Montgomery officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Jemison died Oct. 2 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three sisters; and four children.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ollie Jemison; daughters, Mary J. Garrett of Gadsden and Mable Cohill, Mahalia Jemison and Coreane Jemison of Talladega; sons, R.C. Jemison of Waukegan, Ill., Sylvester Jemison of Childersburg, Arthur Jemison of Florida, Douglas Jemison of Gadsden and Ray Jemison of Talladega; 45 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

JOHN HENRY JOHNSON

SYLACAUGA – Funeral service for John Henry Johnson, 79, was Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m. at Overbrook Assembly of God with the Rev. Jack Davison officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson died Oct. 3 at Coosa Valley BMC. He was a member of Overbrook Assembly of God for many years where he served as the Sunday school superintendent for 15 years. He retired from Coosa Valley Medical Center. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Jerrelean Johnson; one son, Johnny Ray Johnson; and one sister, Catherine Jones.

He is survived by sons, William Van Johnson and wife Debra of Hueytown and Kenneth Charles Johnson of Sylacauga; daughters, Carolyn Meherg and husband Bill of Sylacauga, Catherine Lavonia Crawford and husband Jimmy of Sylacauga, Kathy Gale Holland and husband Ronnie of Sylacauga and Lisa Norris and husband Sam of Sylacauga; brother, Odell Johnson of Sylacauga; sisters, Josie Lavonia Laskaris of Johnson City, N.Y., Louise Naswarthy of Alexander City, Leta Mae Mitchell of Ashland, Earlene Williams of Alexander City and Geraldine Allen of Alexander City; grandchildren, Donny and Glen Meherg, Tammy Rutledge, Emily Napolet, Matt Holland, Jimmy Harris, Chuck Poore, Brian Johnson, Justin Johnson, Dylan Johnson, Jacqueline Johnson, Levi Johnson, Kayla Johnson and Cheryl Smith; great-grandchildren, Victoria Meherg, Daniel Meherg, D.J. Culberson, Devan Culberson, Spencer Carroll, Skylar Carroll, Taylor Rutledge, Andrew Rutledge and Hannah Napolet; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were Matt Holland, Spencer Carroll, Danie Meherg and Justin Johnson.

Active pallbearers were Jimmy Harris, Glenn Meherg, Donny Meherg, Ray Harris, Kenneth Rutledge and Sam Norris.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel directed the service.

FERNECIA ANN WOODALL

CALCIS – Funeral service for Fernecia Ann Woodall, 44, will be Friday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. at Mount Canaan Baptist Church in Calcis with Pastor Willie E. Frazier officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Woodall died Oct. 3 at her residence.

She is survived by her loving father and mother, James and Sarah Woodall; sister, Arnita Woodall of Childersburg; brothers, James Woodall Jr. of Birmingham, Richard Woodall of Alpine, Willie Woodall of Childersburg and Cleotis Woodall of Bessemer; half-sister, Mattie Beavers of Birmingham; grandmother, Maggie Slaughter of Calcis; and a host of other relatives.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Brothers will serve as pallbearers.

Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

MARY CAROTHERS

SYLACAUGA – Graveside service for Mary Carothers, 87, will be Thursday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham with Father Frank Young officiating.

Miss Carothers died Oct. 5 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. She was born in Birmingham. Her family moved to the Sylacauga area in the early 1930’s. In the late 1930’s, she went to work for the Widemires Creamery and Dairy as a bookkeeper. Miss Carothers worked for all the ice cream businesses in Sylacauga except the present establishment. She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church where she was treasurer and children’s Sunday school teacher. She was the first woman to serve on the church vestry in the State of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, A.D. and Mary Carothers. She was very active in the Future Business Women of America and served as president of this organization for the State of Alabama.

She is survived by brother, A.D. Carothers Jr. of Birmingham; sister, Catherine Washam of Childersburg; niece, Patsy Liveoak of Dothan; nephew, Jack Washam of Chicago, Ill.; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home will direct the service.

LYDIA M. DICKEY

PELL CITY – Funeral service for Lydia M. Dickey, 95, will be Friday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with Brother Steve Trader officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Dickey died Oct. 5. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Dickey; and a grandson, Gerald Terry.

She is survived by daughter, Betty Lou (Charles) Terry; grandchildren, Randall Terry, DeWayne Terry and Lynnelle Money; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Terry and Melissa Terry; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.
