SGT. DENNIS RAY CARTER

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for Sgt. Dennis Ray Carter, 45, will be Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Sylacauga with the Rev. Roosevelt Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery.

Sgt. Carter died Nov. 1. At an early age he confessed Christ and united with the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was united in holy matrimony on March 16, 1985 to Georgia Chaney Carter. To this union four children were born. He graduated from Childersburg High School in 1978 and joined the U.S. Army serving four years. He received an honorable discharge. He was an active member of the Childersburg National Guard Unit. He served in Operation Desert Storm Shield and Operation Enduring Freedom. He served more than 16 years in the National Guard. He worked for Thompson, Wienman, Crown Textile and was presently at Imery's Pigment in Sylacauga. He was preceded in death by his father, Lennon Carter; son, Dennis Ray Carter Jr.; and brothers, Billy Wayne Carter and Donnie Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia Chaney Carter; his mother, Beulah Carter; daughters, Tamesha Latoya Carter, Patrice Elizabeth Carter and Alexis Danielle Carter; brothers, Lennon Carter of San Jose, Calif., Harold Carter of Lawrenceville, Ga., James A. Carter of Sylacauga and Michael Joe Carter of Stone Mountain, Ga.; sisters, Ernestine Carter Devengo San Jose, Calif., Lillie Mae Carter Alexander of South Bend, Ind., and Patricia Carter Packen of San Jose, Calif.; two brother-in-laws; three sister-in-laws; and a host of other relatives.

Pallbearers will be members of the Childersburg National Guard Unit.

Friends of the family will serve as flowerbearers.

The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Childersburg Mortuary Service will direct the service.

JOHN HENRY CHAPMAN

TALLADEGA - Funeral service for John Henry Chapman, 92, of 380 Christian St., will be Saturday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. at Africa Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. William T. Threatt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Chapman died Nov. 1 at Talladega Health Care Center. He attended Mardisville School, was a lifelong member of Africa Baptist Church and was retired from Bemis Bag Company after 40 years of service. He was a local taxi driver and was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Chapman Sr. and Henrietta Vincent Chapman; and 16 siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Swain Chapman of Talladega; and daughters, Joyce Truss and Tanesha Holland of Munford.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Deacons of Africa and Southside Baptist Churches will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

HARLEY CULLINS

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for Harley (Mickey) Cullins, 76, will be Saturday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with the Rev. Pearl Jenkins and the Rev. John Dye Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Cullins died Nov. 4 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Marshall Cullins and his mother, Bessie Lewis Cullins. He was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Talladega County. As a lad, he loved Scouting. He had a paper route on South Broadway delivering papers to buy his first Scout uniform. He attended B.B. Comer High School, graduating in 1947 with the honor of 12 years of perfect attendance. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at A&P Tea Company and then at Avondale Mills in Raw Materials Purchasing, where he retired with 38 years of service.

His happiest times were spent with his family at their Lake Martin home. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and cooking. He loved sharing with family and friends fruits from his garden and recipes from his kitchen. At the time of his death, he was a member of Bay Pine Baptist Church. He loved his church family so in lieu of flowers he requested donations be made to the Bay Pine Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 267, Jackson's Gap, Ala., 36861 or Southern Care Hospice, 137 Franklin St., Alexander City, Ala., 35010.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Hughes Cullins of Sylacauga; daughter, Martha Gay Thurmond and husband Hal of Tuscaloosa; son, John Daryl Cullins of Opelika; grandchildren, Jonathan Brown Whitehurst of Bentonville, Ark., Rachel Nicole Whitehurst of Tuscaloosa, Jacob Marshall Cullins and Jared Nathaniel Cullins of Opelika; sisters, Cloe Price Morris of Sylacauga and Kay Mosely of Sylacauga; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Armstrong, Ed Funderburke, Ricky Glassco, Herman Hussey, Howard Logan, Robbie Ludlum, Russell Robinson, George Shockey, Mark Whitehurst and Walter Jones.

AARON LORENZA DRAPER

TALLADEGA - Funeral service for Aaron Lorenza Draper, 44, of 855 Davis St., will be Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. at Community Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Jeffrey D. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Talladega.

Mr. Draper died Oct. 31 at Beckwood Manor in Anniston. He was a member of Howard Chapel Church, attended Talladega County Training School and was preceded in death by his sister, Roslyn Draper.

He is survived by his parents, Madlyn Draper of Talladega and Norman Draper of Talladega; daughter, Lucretia Benjamin of Talladega; sisters, Shernevelyne Hill of Lincoln, Jaukia Coleman of Columbus, Ohio, Mary Coty of Talladega and Lillie McNeil of Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany; brothers, Marvin Draper, William Draper and Harold Draper of Talladega and Johnny Dobbins of Chicago, Ill.; and a host of other relatives.

Friends of the family will serve as flowerbearers.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

ANDREW LAMARK EALY JR.

LINEVILLE - Funeral service for Andrew Lamark Ealy Jr., 14, of 95 Cooper Drive, will be Saturday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at DeForest Chapel at Talladega College with the Rev. John Ragland Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Morning Star Cemetery.

The youth died Oct. 29 in Lineville. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church and played football and basketball. He attended Adams Elementary School in Gadsden, Bay Springs Elementary School in Carrollton, Hal Henderson Elementary School in Talladega and was presently a seventh-grader at Lineville Elementary School in Lineville.

He is survived by his parents, Rochelle Renee Ragland of Lineville and Andrew Lamark Ealy Sr. of Carrollton, Ga.; sisters, Shanteka Ragland of Lineville, Kiara Dioubate of Lineville, Alexis Danyell Ealy and Ashley Nicole Heath of Carrollton, Ga.; brother, Demetrius Ealy of Talladega; and grandparents, John L. and Clara Louise Ragland of Talladega and Tompa Ealy of Talladega.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Pallbearers will be Shenick Hester Jr., Anterius Ragland, Andrell Ragland, Cortev Hester, Mason Ragland and Steven Hester.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

INEZ HARDY SMILEY

TALLADEGA - Funeral service for Inez Hardy Smiley, 93, of 514 Adams Ave., will be Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. at Peace Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert L. Duncan and the Rev. Gilbert Hardy officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Mrs. Smiley died Oct. 31 at Citizens BMC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hosea Smiley; two sons, James W. Smiley and Charles Smiley; her parents, Jim Hardy and Tiller Smoot Smiley Hardy; and two stepdaughters, Nellie Hortense Smiley Braxton and Annie Mae Smiley Castleberry. She was a member of Peace Baptist Church where she was a member of the Pastor's Aid Club and the Mother's Ministry. She was a member of the Ethel Chapter No. 75 of the Order of Eastern Stars.

She is survived by daughters-in-law, Pauline F. Smiley and Mary Ann P. Smiley of Talladega; stepson, Bennie Terry of Chicago, Ill.; sisters, Lessie Talley of Detroit, Mich., and Mary Chelsey of Atlanta, Ga.; 32 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren; 62 great-great-grandchildren; three great-great-great-grandchildren; and primary caregiver, Henrietta S. Lawler of Talladega.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Pallbearers will be Terrance Lawler, Rodney Lawler, Paul E. Smiley, Donald A. Smiley, James W. Smiley II and Tyrell Smith.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

MARY ELIZA JAMES TANT

TALLADEGA - Funeral service for Mary Eliza James Tant, 97, will be Saturday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at Talladega Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Larry Segers and the Rev. Penny Drummond officiating. Burial will be in Dry Valley Cemetery in Lincoln.

Mrs. Tant died Nov. 1 in Austin, Texas. She was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega and was the oldest living member of Talladega Wesleyan Church. She taught the Ladies Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Tant; infant, Cherry Maie Tant; and daughter, Dorothy Hammett.

She is survived by daughters, Frankie Watterson of Waynesville, N.C., and Myra Glee Richardson of Austin, Texas; sisters, Louise Blackstone of Lincoln and Irene Payne of Talladega; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Blackstone, Barry Burton, Warren Callahan, Jay Headrick, Lance James and William M. James.

Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

MELODY CONN

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for Melody Conn, 39, will be Saturday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with the Rev. Michael Russell and the Rev. Eddie Forbus officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Conn died Nov. 3 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. She served in Germany with the Army, was a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church and was a member of Town and Country Garden Club.

She is survived by her husband, Alan Conn of Sylacauga; son, Jacob Conn of Sylacauga; her parents, Ed and Karin Deerman of Sylacauga; brothers, Jay Deerman and Brian Deerman of Sylacauga; and sister, Sherry Norcross of Sylacauga.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Steve Horn, Keith Collum, Terry Bowerman, Greg Grice, Norm Norcross and Stan Fuller,

Alternate pallbearer will be Keith Baker.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

ANNYE T. COX

TALLADEGA - Annye T. Cox, 73, of 149 Community Road, died Nov. 4 at Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.
