JAMES BOYD PRICE SR.

SYLACAUGA — A celebration of Life for James Boyd (Jim) Price Sr. will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sylacauga First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jim Stanford officiating. Visitation will be at the church at 10 a.m.

Mr. Price died Dec. 19th at Coosa Valley Medical Center following a long illness.

Mr. Price was formerly of Vestavia Hills and was born in Cooper, Texas, to Ruel and Bessie Price, both deceased. He attended Pearl River Jr. College on a football scholarship, and then transferred to University of Southern Mississippi, where he graduated with a degree in chemistry.

He retired from Kvaerner John Brown Engineering firm as vice president of sales in 1994 after a long career in the engineering industry.

He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He was active in many organizations, including advisor for Junior Achievement, Jaycees, USO, Boy Scouts, Shriners, Gideon, and served on the board for the Salvation Army of Sylacauga. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and enjoyed working with the youth. He had a passion for life and loved his family, his friends, fishing and gardening. He brought joy, love and laughter to so many and will always be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Price of Sylacauga; sons, Jim and Tammy Price of Franklin, Tenn., and Bill Price of Birmingham; grandsons, Bo, Hunter and Carter; brothers, Bobby and Bill of Louisiana; sister, Sylvia Price from Colorado; and many nephews and nieces.

Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 100 S. Norton, Ave., or to the Salvation Army of Sylacauga.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

HELLON B. PRINCE

LEEDS – Funeral service for Hellon B. Prince, 82, will be Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg chapel with the Rev. Don Graves officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Prince died Dec. 19 at Medical Center East. She was a Baptist by faith.

She is survived by her husband, Delmas S. Prince of Leeds; daughter, Frankie P. Adams and husband Ray of Leeds; sister, Alphie Ellyott of Winston County; five granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Clay Smith, Eric McLain, Eddie McLain, Keith Hobbs, Mark Hobbs and Brent Hobbs.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Self Help of Childersburg.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

CHRISTINE Thompson SWAIN

CHILDERSBURG – Funeral service for Christine Thompson Swain, 69, will be Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 1 p.m. at Tallasahatchie Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie E. Frazier officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Swain died Dec. 18 at her residence. She was a member of Tallasahatchie Missionary Baptist Church, was a member of the choir, was a missionary and a matron. She was a member of Cheerful Givers Society No. 1. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Reynolds and Mae Hannah Thompson; her grandparents, Stephen H. and Fannie J. Thompson; her son, Cartrell Swain; her daughters, Sharon Swain and Cassandra S. Carter; and her sister, Edna Reynolds.

She is survived by her husband, Glovest Swain of Childersburg; son, Glovest Christopher Swain of Childersburg; daughters, Gloria S. Fair and Wanda Renee Lee of Childersburg; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Frances S. Garrett of Chicago, Ill.; brother, Willie Reynolds of Cleveland, Ohio; stepmother, Hattie Mae Reynolds of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of other relatives.

Deacons and friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.

Missionary society and friends of the family will serve as flowerbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from noon until 9 p.m.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

DENNIS WOLF BARTELT

CHILDERSBURG – Funeral service for Dennis Wolf (Yank) Bartelt, 87, will be Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at First Methodist Church in Childersburg with the Rev. Byron White officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Bartelt died Dec. 20 at Coosa Valley BMC. He served in the military in World War II. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Herman Bartelt and Frieda Wolf Bartelt and his wife of 54 years, Willenn Bartelt. He was retired from Kimberly Clark with 32 years of service.

He is survived by sons, David Brazil of Bloomington, Minn., Donald Allen of Lake Alfred, Fla., Steve Bartelt of Montgomery and Tim Bartelt of Montgomery; daughter, Patti Drake of Birmingham; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Payne, James Ray Taylor, Bill Kallenbach, Bob Hagan, George Pate and Ed Johnson.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Childersburg.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

ROBERT BROCK

TALLADEGA – Robert Brock, 71, of 304 Prospect St., died Dec. 20 at his residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.

JOE R. CAMP

SYLACAUGA – Funeral service for Joe R. Camp, 84, will be Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with full military honors with the Rev. Jimmy Dale Abrams and the Rev. Ed Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Stewartville Church of God Cemetery.

Mr. Camp died Dec. 18 at Bill Nichols State Veterans Home. He was preceded in death by brothers, Dr. Charles L. Camp and John Camp; and sister, Vivian King. He served in the U.S. Army with combat duties in World War II and the Korean Conflict and Vietnam with 30 years as a command sergeant major.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Louise Camp of Sylacauga; stepson, Mike Gilliland of Sylacauga; stepdaughter, Tina Gilliland of Birmingham; and stepgrandson, Brandon Gilliland of Birmingham.

Pallbearers will be Tommy D. Moon, Frank Higginbotham, August Lehe, Jack D. White, Willie Pruitt, Ed Holley and Charles Wilson. He was a native of Coosa County.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

ALTON M. CARROLL

BIRMINGHAM – Funeral service for Alton M. Carroll, 88, will be Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert F. Waites Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville.

Mr. Carroll died Dec. 19. After 36 years of service he retired as the chief highway engineer from the Jefferson County Highway Department. He was a member of Faith Fellowship Southern Methodist Church and was a committed Christian, devoted husband of 62 1/3 years, beloved father, grandfather of 17 and great-grandfather of 17.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Alice Cowart and Simon Peter Carroll; sister, Lois Blake; and brother, Joe Carroll.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth G. Carroll; daughters, Patricia C. Witt of Raleigh, N.C., Linda C. Southworth of Birmingham, Janette C. Culver of Starkville, Miss., and Deborah C. Waites of Hoover; son, A. Wayne Carroll of Johnson City, Tenn.; sister, Ora C. Isbell of Arab; brothers, Reuben Carroll of Huntsville and Jack M. Carroll of Huntsville; and numerous extended family members.

Jefferson Memorial Trussville will direct the service.

BLAKE DORAN

PELL CITY – Funeral service for Blake Doran, 17, will be Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 1 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City. Burial will be in Valley Hill Memorial.

Mr. Doran died Dec. 18. He was a student at Pell City High School.

He is survived by his parents, Kevin and Connie Doran and Donna Doran; grandmother, Liz Rich; brothers, Chris Doran and Michael Doran; stepbrother, Scott Lance; and stepsister, Melissa Calahan.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

JOSEPHINE FIELDS

TALLADEGA – Josephine Fields, 75, of 802 Roosevelt St., died Dec. 20 at Citizens BMC.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

CHARLES PRUETT FOUTS SR.

ASHVILLE – Funeral service for Charles Pruett Fouts Sr., 89, was Monday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Ashville with Dr. James Sampley officiating. Burial was in Ashville City Cemetery.

Mr. Fouts died Dec. 18. He was a long time member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Ashville. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II in Europe. He was the founder, along with his father and brother, of Fouts Tractor Company and was a long time cattle farmer. He was the past president of the St. Clair County Cattlemen’s Association and a member of the Lions Club. For a long time he was a director of the Ashville Savings Bank. He was the last survivor of four brothers, two sisters and his parents, W.O. and Eva M. Fouts. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary McClendon Fouts.

He is survived by his children, Charles Fouts Jr. of Ashville, Jane Smith of Ashville and Nancy Shepard of Shrewsbury, Mass.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to the building fund of the First Baptist Church of Ashville.

Collier-Butler Funeral Home will direct the service.
