WILLIE MAE WILSON

SYLACAUGA – Funeral service for Willie Mae Wilson, 70, will be Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m. at Evangel Temple in Harpersville with Elder Lodis McGregor officiating. Burial will be in Corinth Cemetery.

Mrs. Wilson died Jan. 1 at Carraway Hospital in Birmingham. She was a native of Shelby County, was a member of Evangel Temple and was preceded in death by her husband, Shep Wilson Sr.

She is survived by daughters, Lillie Mae Kidd and Suzanne Dates of Vincent and Lateacia Q. Wilson of Alpine; sons, Shep Wilson Jr., Jackie L.Wilson, Lenell Player and Reginald G. Wilson of Sycamore; sister, Ella B. Player of Sycamore; brother, Albert Player Jr. of Sycamore; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Madden’s Funeral Service will direct the service.

CLIFTON EDWARD ABBOTT

HARPERSVILLE – Clifton Edward Abbott, 78, died Jan. 3 at his residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel.

JAMES E. CHILDERS

CRAGFORD – Funeral service for James E. (Jimmy) Childers, 56, will be Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Ashland with the Rev. Braden Morrison and Wendell McLain officiating with military honors to follow in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Childers died Dec. 31 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Birmingham. He was a native of Randolph County, was a former resident of Germany and Washington State having returned to Clay County in 1992. He was employed with Wellborn Cabinet Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served 17 years and he served in Desert Storm. He was awarded the following United States Army Decorations Awards and Citations during his active duty service: Southwest Asia Service Medal Bronze Service Star-1, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal 6th award, Army Achievement Medal 4th award, Good Conduct Medal 5th AWD, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon W/-Num 2, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon W-Num 2.

He is survived by his wife, Sonja Childers of Cragford; daughters, Tina Hannah and Lorie Starnes of Franklin, Ga.; sister, Joyce Andrews of LaGrange, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home until service time.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland will direct the service.

MARY CLYDE GROGAN

ASHLAND – Funeral service for Mary Clyde Grogan, 87, will be Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 10 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Ashland with Pastor Keith Jones and the Rev. Bruce Willis officiating. Burial will be in Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Grogan died Jan. 2 at Clay County Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and had been employed with Higgins Manufacturing for 15 years. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church North.

She is survived by daughters, Linda G. Lindsey of Ashland and Vicky Binkley of Springfield, Tenn.; son, Joe N. Grogan of Ashland; sister, Irene Smith of Munford; brother, Calvin Harris Jr. of Lineville; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Timmy Sparks, Jeff Sparks, Rickey Grogan, Chris Fenn, Kevin Binkley and Philip Binkley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Trevore Moore, Tyler Fenn, Neal Fenn and Max Grogan.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home until service time.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland will direct the service.

HATTIE OZELL HENDON

ASHLAND – Funeral service for Hattie Ozell Hendon, 99, will be Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Lineville with the Rev. Don Warren officiating. Burial will be in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Hendon died Jan. 2 at Clay County Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, was a homemaker and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hendon; three sons, Willis Paul Hendon, James Lewis Hendon and John Wesley Hendon.

She is survived by daughters, Margaret Cotney of Lineville, Virgie Forman and Elsie Killingsworth of Ashland; son, Shirrel Hendon of Ashland; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and until service time Wednesday.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville will direct the service.

THOMAS R. HOLCOMBE

MUNFORD – Funeral service for Thomas R. "Tommy Dick" Holcombe, 71, was Monday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Talladega with the Rev. Tim Saccucci officiating. Burial was in Munford Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Holcombe died Jan. 1 at his residence. He was a native of Florida, had lived in Munford for most of his life and was retired from Talldega County Department of Transportation. He was a member of Munford United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel H. Holcombe; and son, Tommy Holcombe.

He is survived by daughter, Mrs. Angel H. Carter of Munford; sons, Rick Holcombe of San Antonio, Texas and Dickie Holcombe of Munford; sister, Mrs. Blanche Maddox of Munford; grandchildren, Hydie H. Champion, Dovie M. Luckado, Jennifer H. Polland, Tony Creed, Haley E. Holcombe, T.J. Holcombe, Jessica Mabrey, Kayla Holcombe and Katie E. Carter; and seven great-grandchildren, Chaz Champion, Carter Champion, Canaan Champion, Angelynn Luckado, Rebecca Luckado, Shelby Polland and Savannah Polland.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Cystic Fibrosis or Alzheimer’s Association.

Pallbearers were Bill Wright, Steve Hurst, Daniel Wade and Jeff Hughes.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega directed the service.

JOSEPH JEMISON

MUNFORD – Joseph Jemison, 91, of 1056 Chinnabee Road, died Jan. 3 at 124 Lock Four Road in Lincoln.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.

BETTY MARTIN

TALLADEGA – Betty Martin died Jan. 3 at Baptist Medical Center Princeton in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega.

JOHN H. PICKRELL

BUFFALO, Ill. – Funeral service for John H. Pickrell, 85, was Friday, Dec. 31, at 10:30 a.m. at Illiopolis Christian Church with the Rev. Melissa Meers officiating.

Mr. Pickrell died Dec. 21 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born on Aug. 9, 1919 in Lanesville, Ill., the son of Harry E. and Mildred Heard Pickrell. He married Carolyn K. Kenney on July 17, 1940 and she preceded him in death in 1999. He then married Becky Ford in July 1999 in Illiopolis, Ill. He was a member of Illiopolis Christian Church and was a member of the Sangamon County Senior Farmer Hall of Fame, a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Social Fraternity, Alpha Tau Alpha Honorary Agriculture Fraternity, Sangamon County Farm Bureau, Oakcrest Country Club and Sangamo Club of Springfield. He served as Lanesville Township Supervisor on the Sangamon County Board of Supervisors and Board of Review, was one of the charter board of directors for Mechanicsburg Citizen Bank, was on the board of directors for the Illini Bank Corporation, Lincoln Land Border Collie Association and served on the Tri-City School Board for 24 years. He was a member of both the National and Illinois Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers and was a lifelong farmer. He was preceded in death by a brother, William F. Pickrell in 1955.

He is survived by his wife Becky of Buffalo; daughters, Carolyn P. Sundberg of Macomb and Elizabeth P. Ruddie of Stevensville, Md.; sons, Dr. John A. Pickrell of Manhattan, Kan., Frankline K. Pickrell of Decatur, Joseph S. Pickrell of Buffalo and Dr. David H. Pickrell of Birmingham; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three nephews; and four nieces.

Memorials may be made to the Illiopolis Christian Church or the United Way of Central Illinois.

Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home directed the service.

JAMES PYLES

ANNISTON – James Pyles, 72, died Jan. 2.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Service.

VERGIE FREDERICK SESSIONS

SYLACAUGA – Funeral service for Vergie Frederick Sessions, 88, was Monday, Jan. 3, at noon at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with Elder Bufrey Dean and Elder Jonathan Blakeley officiating. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery in Childersburg.

Mrs. Sessions died Jan. 1 in Sylacauga.

She is survived by son, Ray Stanley of Senoia, Ga.; brothers, Willard Frederick of Sylacauga, J.E. Weatherly of Clanton and Billy Weatherly of Clanton; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Stacey Bright, Jay Bright, Andy Davis, Alex Davis, Pat Frederick and Bobby Delvaux.

Honorary pallbearers was Parker Bright.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga directed the service.

JIMMIE P. SHADDIX

LINEVILLE – Funeral service for Jimmie P. Shaddix, 72, will be Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m. at Good Hope Delta Baptist Church with the Rev. Pat Hurst officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Shaddix died Jan. 1 at Clay County Hospital. He was a native of Clay County, was a former resident of Miami, Fla., and returned to Clay County 11 years ago. He had been employed with Eastern Airlines, was a graduate of Lineville High School and was a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Miami, Fla.

He is survived by daughter, Amy Shaddix of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sons, Eric Clingman of Big Pine Key, Fla., Todd Clingman of McKinney, Texas and Jeremy Shaddix of Lineville; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Todd Clingman, Eric Clingman, Jeremy Shaddix, Johnny Brown, Eddie Brown and Doug Owen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Benefield, Billy Wayne Sprayberry, Paul Bright, Jim McClellan and Frank Moore.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and until one hour before the service Wednesday.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland will direct the service.

MARY WILLIAMS

ANNISTON – Mary Williams, 67, died Jan. 3.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Anniston Funeral Service.

ISABELL OWENS WYNN

TALLADEGA – Funeral service for Isabell Owens Wynn, 85, will be Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Harvey Bowlin Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Wynn died Jan. 3 at Talladega Health Care Center. She was a native of Heflin, was a resident of Talladega and was preceded in death by her husband, James Wynn; and her parents, Jim and Ethel Owens.

She is survived by sisters, Nellie Irvin of Talladega, Mildred Dennis of Talladega and Eva Covey of Linton, Ind.; brothers, Joe Owens of Boaz and Jack Owens of Childersburg; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Michael Irvin, David Irvin, Louie Irvin, Phillip Haywood, Bobby Owens and Travis Colquitt.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home will direct the service.
