LAMAR DAFFRON

RAGLAND – Graveside service for Lamar Daffron, 65, will be Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. in Ragland Methodist Cemetery in Ragland with the Rev. Doug Ford and the Rev. Roger Kendrick officiating.

Mr. Daffron died Jan. 16 at University Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Daffron of Ragland; daughters, Sherry Davis of Pell City, Lavenia Burnham (David) of Ragland and Penny Owen (Keith) of Lincoln; brother, Jack Daffron (Margie) of Ragland; seven grandsons; and two nieces.

Pallbearers will be Howard Roper, Jimmy Hathcox, Harold Burnham, Jimmy Pollard, Randy St. John and Cecil Brown.

Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

EUNICE DEESE GRAHAM

SYLACAUGa. – Funeral service for Eunice Deese Graham, 87, was Monday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Bob Nelson and Elder Jonathan Blakeley officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Coosa County.

Mrs. Graham died Jan. 15 in Sylacauga. She was preceded in death by her sister, Oletha White; her daughter, Rebecca D. Tinney; and her grandsons, Andrew Woodfin and Chris Roberts. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church.

She is survived by daughters, Rebie Woodfin of Sylacauga and Sue Hubbard of Birmingham; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga directed the service.

FRED PAUL JOHNSON

TALLADEGA – Funeral service for Fred Paul (Rags) Johnson, 66, will be Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Johnson died Jan. 16. He was preceded in death by his brother, Billy F. Johnson; sister, Shirley Cox; son, Michael Paul Johnson; and great-grandson, Korie Michael Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Robyn Strawberry Johnson; sons, Dale Orr, Lonnie Orr, William Johnson, Kelvin Johnson, Kelly Johnson, Kristopher Johnson, Jeremy Parker and Jason Parker; daughter, Fredna Renee Johnson; special brothers, Larry (Yank) Olds, Scott (Terrapin) Bice, Rodger Dale (RD) Phillips and Kenny Goodwin; friend and mother of his children, Jeri R. Johnson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Sons will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Swader, Gene Swader, Billy McCoy, Roy Facett, Ken Shirley and other Brother Iron Workers.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

VIRGINIA LEATHERWOOD

MT. OLIVE – Funeral service for Virginia Leatherwood, 78, will be Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with the Rev. Rick Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville.

Mrs. Leatherwood died Jan. 16. She was born in Birmingham and was a long time member of Gardendale Baptist Tabernacle where she worked with the Children’s Ministries. She enjoyed working with the residents of Gardendale Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, J.W. Leatherwood.

She is survived by daughters, Gayle Leatherwood, Sue Spruell (Larry) and Donna Wolfe (Jerry); grandchildren, Roger and Robert Burgett, Tamara Spruell-Kress, Larry Spruell, Ann Spruell-Lewis and Mike Wolfe; brothers, Clarence M. and Ron Shelton of Michigan; and sister, Doris Barnett.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel will direct the service.

MARY ANN AVERY LITTLETON

CHILDERSBURG – Funeral service for Mary Ann Avery Littleton, 85, will be Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Childersburg with the Rev. Huey Bratton and the Rev. Jimmy Nixon officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Littleton died Jan. 17 at her residence. She was a native of Chilton County and lived the last 50 years in Childersburg. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Childersburg and the Golden Circle Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William Owen (W.O.) Littleton; her parents, Luke Monroe Avery and Mary Alice Northcutt Avery; brothers, Dudley, Floyd, Millie, Robert and Cecil Avery; and sisters, Icie Williams, Lillie May Adams, Mary Grace Brown and Macie Bandel . She and her husband made several trips around the U.S.A. building churches and doing Bible schools with the Campers on Mission organization.

She is survived by daughters, Alyce Earley and husband Jimmy of Childersburg and Willi Pepper and husband Charlie of Pell City; sons, George (Randy) Littleton of Childersburg and Roger Littleton of Equality; grandchildren, Daryl Early and wife Sheran of Childersburg, Darlene Hereford of Valley and Michelle Turner and husband Pat of Fresno, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Timothy Hereford II and Audrey Turner.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The Golden Circle Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

JONATHAN MULLALLY

LINEVILLE – Funeral service for Jonathan Mullally, 19, will be Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Ashland with Chaplain Bret Viper and Chaplain Gordon Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Faith Assembly of God Cemetery.

Mr. Mullally died Jan. 16 at University Hospital in Birmingham. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and was a graduate of Lineville High School.

He is survived by his mother and father, Wanda and Craig Smith of Lineville; grandparents, Jo Ann Baker of Lineville, Phillis Smith of Dadeville; and brother, Ricky Mullally of Lineville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:30 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and until service time on Wednesday.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland will direct the service.

WOODROW McVAY

LINEVILLE – Funeral service for Woodrow "Woody" McVay, 86, will be Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. at Bellview Baptist Church with the Rev. Sonny McCollum and the Rev. Eugene Robinson officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. McVay died Jan. 16 in Jackson’s Gap. He was a native of Clay County where he returned in 1948. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the State of Alabama Department of Parks and Recreation after 28 years of service as a construction superintendent. He helped build Bellview Baptist Church where he has been a member for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helon Huddleston McVay; three daughters; and one son.

He is survived by daughters, Barbara Wilcox of Talladega and Betty Jean Patterson of Jackson’s Gap; sons, John D. McVay of Jasper, Dwight McVay of Lineville and Roger Dale McVay of Lineville; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Patterson, Mike Hale, Greg Jones, Paul Jones, Mike Spurlin Jr., Jeremy Patterson and Jonathan Jones.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home until one hour before the service.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville will direct the service.

BETTY MORRIS

SYLACAUGA – Betty Morris, 62, died Jan. 17 at Brookwood Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home.

JAMES L. NABORS SR.

RAINBOW CITY – Funeral service for James L. Nabors Sr., 81, will be Thursday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Nabors died Jan. 17. He established Nabors Roofing Company in 1946 and was a successful businessman employing many of his friends and relatives. He was a self educated man whose wisdom and advice was sought by all. After years of hard work he was forced to retire in 1970 and set out to enjoy life with his wife of 55 years, Evelyn. Together they traveled to all 49 states and all over Canada. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. As a young man, he worked on a project to build bridges in Utah. He was proud of that service. He was a kind, generous, and caring family man. He never met a stranger and everyone loved him. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by sons, James L. Nabors Jr. of Ashville and Dennis R. Nabors of Trussville; sisters, Margaret Jones, Dorothy Putman and Sarah Roberts of Ashville and Hazel Parr of Rainbow City; one grandchild; two great-granddaughters; and other relatives.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Nabors requested that a fund be created for the care of Gum Springs Church Cemetery where his parents and his wife’s parents are buried.

Jefferson Memorial will direct the service.
