ELOISE G. GUINN

YORK — Funeral services for Eloise G. Guinn, 78, will be Friday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Franklin McLelland officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Butler, Ala.

Ms. Guinn died Monday, Jan. 2, at Sumter Health and Rehab in York, Ala.

She is survived by sons, Mike Guinn and wife Molly of Pennington; Paul Guinn and wife Janice of Panama City, Fla., L. Keith Guinn and wife Margaret of Butler, and Bruce Guinn and wife Coneta of Tuscaloosa; brother, E.S. Glosson of Butler and Paul Glosson of Meridian, Miss.; sisters, Ruby Dennis of Sylacauga, Lois Lewis of Oak Grove, and Trish Cleveland of White Plain; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Guinn, Keith Guinn, Bruce Guinn, Paul Guinn, E.S. Glosson, Paul Glosson, Lathan Hudson, and Clark Dennis.

Bumpers Funeral Home will direct the service.

JUANITA LEE HAND

OXFORD — Graveside services for Juanita Lee Hand, 91, will be Friday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. at Valley Hill Memorial Garden Cemetery in Cropwell with the Rev. Billy Harris of Anniston officiating. Special thoughts from Mrs. Hand’s sister, Corrine Lee, will be read by granddaughter, Kelly Swango. A special reading will be given by friend, Anne Reid of Eastaboga. "How Great Thou Art", "Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus", and "Victory in Jesus" will be sung by Susie Smith of Birmingham, and "To Each His Own" will also be included. Selected poetry, "When I Must Leave you", and "The Rose Still Grows beyond the Wall" will be read by granddaughter, Rachael McCrimmon.

Pallbearers will be Patrick McCrimmon, Daniel Curry, Stan Sedmak, Carlton Barnes, Bill Reid, and Dudley Ward.

Mrs. Hand passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, at her residence.

Mrs. Hand was born and raised in St. Clair County, Alabama. She was the daughter of Jessie Evans and Polly Pink Tucker Lee. Mrs. Hand and her husband, Clyde Vincent Hand, lived in California for many years before returning to Alabama in 1951, where they lived in Talladega for many years. Mrs. Hand has been a resident of Anniston and Oxford since 1989. She was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church and the Deborah Sunday School Class and former member of Lincoln Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hand was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Evans and Polly Pink Tucker Lee; her husband of 53 years, Clyde Vincent Hand; two infant sons, Dexter Colan and Evans Wayne Hand; a sister, Allie Alphonsa Williams; a brother, Troy J. Lee; and a great-granddaughter, Tabitha Phillips.

Mrs. Hand is survived by her son-in-law and daughter, James Kenneth and Tessie Hand Fuqua of Oxford; two sisters, Nioma Lee of Pell City and Corrine Lee of Hoover; four granddaughters, Lauretta Phillips of Talladega, Kelly Swango of Largo, Fla., Scarlett Sedmak of Anniston, and Rachael McCrimmon of Oxford; one grandson, Clyde Watts of Piedmont; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; special friend and nurse of New Beacon Hospice, Peggy Collins, who showed love and compassion during Mrs. Hand’s last journey in this life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Parker Memorial Baptist Church Restoring God’s House building fund.

Gray Brown is in charge of the services.

CLIFFORD ELMAR JENNINGS

TALLADEAGA — Funeral services for Clifford Elmar Jennings, 90, will be Saturday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. at Bemiston Baptist Church with the Rev. George Bishop and the Rev. John Whetstone officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Jennings died Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Russell Hospital in Alex City.

He was a native of Tallapoosa County and had lived in Talladega since 1941. He was a lifelong deacon and member of Bemiston Baptist Church. He was retired from the Bemiston Bag Company. He had lived the past two years in Alexander City.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Leona N. Jennings of Talladega; sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford A. and Sandra Jennings of Leesburg, Va., and Larry W. and Karen Jennings of Alexander City; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 6, from 5-8 p.m. at Usrey.

Pallbearers will be Gary Jennings, Steven Jennings, Ron Carroll, Brandt See, Toby Ledbetter, and John Burke. Honorary pallbearers will be Lofton Smith, John Burke Jr., Jimmy Taylor, J.W. Baker, William Carpenter, Adult Sunday School Class and deacons of Bemiston Baptist Church.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

RAGLAND — Funeral services for Irene McCullough, 84, will be Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Chapel with burial in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery.

ALVIS RAY MEEKS

WEOGUFKA — Funeral services for Alvis Ray Meeks, 56, will be Friday, Jan. 6, at 1 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. John Waites officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery.

Mr. Meeks died Wednesday, Jan. 4, at St. Vincent’s Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Meeks, and brother, Christopher Meeks.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Meeks of Weogufka; daughters, Phyllis Bailey, Rita Pugh and husband Tim, Sandy Meeks, Melinda Meeks, and Sandra Meeks all of Sylacauga; brother, Paul Meeks of Sylacauga; and mother, Sadie Meeks of Sylacauga; five grandsons; and five granddaughters.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Scott, Jimmy Harris, Bobbie Butler, PeeWee Murphy, Ray Hallman, and Raymond Black. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Isbell, William Salters, and Dennis Carr.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the services.

MARY BENEFIELD OWENSBY

Iowa City, IA. — Funeral services for Mary Benefield Owensby, 80, will be Saturday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel with the Rev. Todd Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Childersburg Cemetery.

Ms. Owensby died peacefully Saturday, Dec. 31, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. She was born Mary Hartwell Benefield Nov. 13, 1925, in Danville, Va., to William Moffitt Benefield and Margaret Turbiville Benefield. She graduated from high school in Spigna, Ala., attended Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham and obtained her B.A. in English literature in 1948. She married Dr. David Eugene Owensby, MD in 1950. They later divorced. She moved to Iowa City in 1972 and worked as a laboratory technician for the University of Iowa until her retirement in 1993. Mary was a devoted mother, daughter, and sister. She was an avid patron of the Arts, especially classical music and opera.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, William Moffitt Benefield Jr. and Joseph Turbiville Benefield.

She is survived by her children, William Benefield Owensby of Atlanta, Ga., Mary Margaret Newman of Eugene, Ore., and Joseph Zeigh Owensby of Phoenix, Ariz.; and her grandson, Joseph Pierce Newman of Eugene, Ore.

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 7, from 1-2 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the American Red Cross, or the University of Iowa Foundation.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the services.

CALLIE MARIE PEARCE

GOODWATER — Funeral services for Callie Marie Pearce, 90, will be Friday, Jan. 6, at Radney-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Todd Reaves officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Pearce died Thursday, Jan. 5, at Goodwater Healthcare Center.

She was a member of Mignon Baptist Church and active in Sunday School. She retired from Avondale Mills as a spooler after some 45 years of service.

She is survived by her sister, Odessa Childs of Opelika; great-great-great niece, Kaylee Rogers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

MARY JOSEPHINE ABBOTT

ALABASTER — Funeral service for Mary Josephine Abbott, 83, will be Sunday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Donald Grice officiating. Burial will be in the Marble City Cemetery. Mrs. Abbott died Thursday, Jan. 5, at Alabaster Health Care Center. She was retired from Winn Dixie Food Service. She is survived by her son, Kearney Guy and wife Clara of Morehouse, Mo. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

WILLARD RAY CALDWELL

CHILDERSBURG — Graveside service for Willard Ray Caldwell, 88, of Childersburg, will be Saturday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. at Midway Memory Gardens with the Rev. Larry Morris officiating. Mr. Caldwell died Thursday, Jan. 5, at his residence in Childersburg. He was born in Clay County and lived most of his life in Talladega. He was a member of Winterboro Baptist Church. After his retirement from Kockums Industries, he loved gardening and especially raising tomatoes and working cross-word puzzles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Lizzie and Denny Ray Caldwell; one sister, Earlene Warren; and brother, Clyde Caldwell. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Thaddie Caldwell; four children, Dina Dueitt and husband James, Janice Harkins and husband Jackie, David Caldwell and Liz Hamer, Paul Caldwell and wife Tammy; 10 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Active pallbearers will be Andy Harkins, Dale Caldwell, Josh Caldwell, Royce Warren, Doug Warren, and Randy Jinks. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

McCALLA — Lewis Chandler, 82, died Friday, Jan. 6, at UAB Hospital West in Bessemer. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will announce arrangements.

WALLACE RANDLE GLOVER

ALPINE — Funeral services for Wallace Randle Glover, 93, will be Saturday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. at Sycamore Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Glover died Wednesday, Jan. 4, at his residence. He is survived by sons, Willie Calvin (Barbara) Glover and Robert C. (Mattie) Miller both of Alpine; daughters, Mary (Arthur) Cheeley of Greenville, Ga., Naomi Ragland of Lithonia, Ga., and Carolyn Taylor of Atlanta, Ga.; 56 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; 41 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Sims Funeral Service will direct.

VINCENT — Memorial services for John Lewis Krebs, 66, will be Sunday, Jan. 8, at 4 p.m. at North Macedonia Baptist Church in Vincent. Mr. Krebs died Thursday, Jan. 5. He is survived by his wife, Gwyn Krebs; son, John C. Krebs; step-son, Richard Allen Sayers; brother, Daniel Krebs of Wisconsin; sisters, Martha Pomerenke, Alma Hanford, Phyllis Miller, Carol Paulick, Sandra Bonikowski all of Wisconsin; and step-grandchildren, Sean Kolby and Ryan Campbell. Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 8, from 3-4 p.m. at church prior to the service. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the services.

JAMES TRAVIS ROBINSON

TALLADEGA — Funeral services for James Travis Robinson, 60, will be Saturday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. from the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Penny Drummond and the Rev. Don Warren officiating. Burial will follow from the Millerville Cemetery in Clay County. Mr. Robinson passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. He was a native of Clay County but had lived many years in Talladega County. He was retired from Crown Textile in Talladega and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Helping Hands Church in Clay County. He was preceded in death by his father, M.P. Robinson Jr.; and a brother, Paul Robinson. He is survived by his wife, Flora L. Robinson of Talladega; sons, Mike Robinson and wife Jennifer and Stephen Robinson and wife Patricia all of Talladega; his mother, Maggie S. Robinson of Ashland; sisters, Martha McQueen and husband Richard, Linda Weathers and husband Ben; brother, Ray Robinson of Ashland; brother-in-law, John L. Green of Talladega; granddaughters, Jennica Robinson and Lindsey Robinson; grandson, Patrick T. Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Luke Jennings, Jimmy Smith, Yank Hendon, Jack Shirey, Joe Daniel, and Roy Patterson. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the services.
