SYLACAUGA Martha Livingston, 56, died Tuesday, March 14, at Coosa Valley Medical Center. Curtis and Son Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

EDWARD MCGREGOR MOORE

SYLACAUGA Edward McGregor Moore, 66, died Monday, March 13, at Cook Springs Nursing Home. A private family memorial service will be held. He was a graduate from Sylacauga High School, University of Alabama and Auburn University, and College of Veterinary Medicine. He was an Eagle Scout, Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Japan, Germany, and Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Alabama Treasure Forests Owners Association. He was a native of Sylacauga. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Moore of Sylacauga; son, Philip M. Moore and wife Christine of Sylacauga; daughter, Katherine M. Ingram and husband Dawson of Sandy Springs, GA; sister, Penelope Moore of Sylacauga; and two grandchildren, Benton Moore and Mary Elizabeth Moore of Sylacauga.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Building Fund of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 8 West Walnut, Sylacauga, AL 35150, Alabama Forever Wild Fund or The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, 206 N. Signal Street, Suite R, Ojai, CA 93023. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

THELMA A. COSBY PHILLIPS

TALLADEGA Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma A. Cosby Phillips, age 90, will be Thursday March 16, at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland with the Revs. Jim Arnall and John Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Millerville Community Cemetery. Mrs. Phillips passed away Monday March 13, 2006 at the Clay County Hospital. She was a native of Talladega but had lived most of her life in Clay County, was a homemaker and a member of Oak Hill Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Sims of Killean, TX; son, Julius Phillips (Edna) of Talladega; sister, Jackie Baird of Goodwater; 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, George Floyd Phillips; two sons, Harold L. Phillips and Kenneth L. Phillips; and a daughter, Helen Quarles.

Pallbearers will be: Steve Cotney, Wendell Wolfe, Ray Brewer, Randy Anderson, Jerry Chandler, Roy Carr, Phil Quarles Honorary pallbearers will be: Lincoln Carr and Wendell Bachelor. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday March 15, and until service time on Thursday March 16, 2006. Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland in charge of the arrangements.

CROPWELL Phillip Vick, 48, died Tuesday, March 14, at Baptist Medical Center Montclair. Radney-Smith Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

JERRY FLOYD WAITES

TALLADEGA Funeral services for Jerry Floyd Waites, 58, will be Thursday, March 16, at 1 p.m. from the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Henson and the Rev. Horace McMichaels officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. from the Greenlawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Alabama. Mr. Waites passed away Monday, March 13, at Talladega Healthcare Center in Talladega. Survivors are his wife, Martha Waites of Talladega; two daughters, Michelle Surrett and Jennifer Waites both of Oxford; three stepdaughters, Shelia Franklin of Talladega, Shelia Henson of Guntersville, and Cynthia Holt of Alexandria; one son, Hank Waites of Weaver; two sisters, Elizabeth Henderson of Anniston and Irene Birchfield of Munford; one brother, Fred Waites of Anniston; 12 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. Active pallbearers are William Henderson, Richard Knight III, Chris Edwards, Mark Brown, Howard Waites, Wayne Waites, and Floyd Waites. Mr. Waites was a native of Calhoun County, Alabama and had been a resident of Talladega for the past six years. He was a retired automobile repairman. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the services.

PELL CITY Graveside services for Margaret Gage Butler, 64, will be Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs. Butler died Tuesday, March 14, 2006. She is survived by two step-sons, Grady Butler and David Butler; brother, Douglas Hardee Smith; and six step-grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, March 18, from 3-5 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home. Kilgroe Funeral Home will direct the services.

Burial will be in Kahatchee Cemetery. Mrs. Fowler died Tuesday, March 14, at Talladega Healthcare. She is survived by her husband, James M. Fowler of Sylacauga; three sons, Kenneth Fowler of Sylacauga, James R. Fowler of Childersburg, and Ronald Fowler of Sylacauga; daughter, Patricia McCutchen of Sylacauga; and brother, Charles Peoples of Sycamore. Evans and husband James C. of Childersburg; two sisters, Sandra Furnari of Sylacauga and Judy Lynn Combs and husband Gary of Augusta, GA; aunt, Willie Ree Spears of Lannett; nephew, Joseph Ray Furnari of Childersburg; niece, Angel Combs of Augusta, GA; great niece, Kayle Furnari of Childersburg; great nephew, Joseph Tray Furnari of Childersburg; and two uncles, Henry Woods of Childersburg and James Woods of Harpersville. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Cleveland, Thomas Cleveland, Corey Cleveland, David Rousseau, Daniel Hamm, Scott Morris, Gary Combs, and Jimmy Gains. He is survived by his son, Harry (Stephanie) Lee; brother, Lindon Roy (Shirley) Lee; two grandchildren, Terry and Cody Lee; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Morris died Monday, March 13. He was a native and resident of Vincent. He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Morris. He is survived by his wife, Rosali Morris of Antipolo City, Philippines; one daughter, Akeia Jordan of Vincent; his mother, Grace Morris of Vincent; and one sister, Olivia Morris of Rockford. Interment will be in Fayetteville Methodist Cemetery. Mr. Shaw died Tuesday, March 14, at his residence. He was a loving and devoted father, husband, son, son-in-law, uncle and brother. He is survived by his wife, Susan Edmondson Shaw; daughters, Marlee Elizabeth Shaw and Laura Marie Shaw all of Fayetteville; two brothers, Bo Shaw of Talladega Springs and Scott Darden of Marble Valley; sister, Suzanne Dickinson of Talladega Springs; father and mother, Morris and Ann Shaw of Talladega Springs; father and mother-in-law, Lewis and Corky Edmondson of Fayetteville. Burial will be in Kahatchee Cemetery. Mr. Vick died Tuesday, March 14, at Baptist Medical Center Montclair. He was a member of the Pell City New Life Assembly of God Church and Shelby County Foster Parent Association. He was a disabled Veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Joette K. Vick of Cropwell; four sons, Michael Brian Vick and wife Laura of Sylacauga, Marchael Wayne Vick and wife Rachelle of Chelsea, Matthew Ray Vick and wife Miranda of Childersburg, and Derek James Creel of Cropwell; daughter, Lori Nicole Vick Kitchens and husband Kerry of Auburn; two sisters, Glenda Bice and Diane Vick both of Childersburg; four brothers, Marion Tink Vick and wife Marcia of Sylacauga, Gerald W. Vick and wife Kathy, Paul Vick and wife Judi, and David T. CLARA HACKNEY MAYS

PELL CITY Graveside service for Clara Hackney Mays, 92, will be Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at Valley Hill Cemetery with the Rev. A.L. Courtney officiating. Mrs. Mays died Friday, March 17, 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Mays. She retired from St. Clair County Board of Education. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Mays (George Robert) Hager, Clara Mays McCormack, and Martha Mays Saucier; five grandchildren, Richard Hager, Susan O'Brien, John Saucier, Emily Stewart, and Elizabeth Creager; two step-grandchildren, Carol Spears and John McCormack; and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, March 19, from 12-1 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, the Bell Center for Early Intervention Program or the Mays House Restoration Project. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

TALLADEGA Funeral services for Paul D. Mitchell, 51, will be Sunday, March 19, at 12 noon from the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Haywood officiating. Burial will follow from the Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Clay County. Mr. Mitchell passed away Friday, March 17, at Citizens BMC in Talladega. Survivors are his mother, Elizabeth Mitchell of Talladega; two sisters, Carolyn Graham and Christie Taylor both of Talladega; one brother, Jim Mitchell of Hollen, MI; one niece, Brooke Mitchell; and one nephew, Jesse Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a native of Talladega County where he lived for most of his life and was a former employee of The Bell & Howell Company as well as an employee of The Talladega Daily Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6-9 p.m. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the services.

PELL CITY Graveside services for Charles Marvin Stallings, 58, will be Monday, March 20, at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Gadsden with the Rev. Bill Gray officiating. Mr. Stallings died Thursday, March 16, 2006. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jo Frances Stallings. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. Veteran of Vietnam with a 20 year career in the U.S. Navy. A member of Victory Christian Center. He very much enjoyed living in Pell City for 14 years. A special thanks to Pastor Bill Gray. A special thanks to Dr. Dinesh Parmar of Gadsden and his staff for the extra special care they have given. He is survived by his daughter, Melanie Stallings; brother, Jimmy Stallings; sister, Patsy Galloway; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, March 20, from 10 a.m.-12 noon at Kilgroe Funeral Home. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the services.

ALFRED HOWARD "A.J." WATSON JR.

ASHVILLE Alfred Howard "A.J." Watson Jr., 73, (also known as "Doc") passed away March 16, at his home. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 18, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Ed Talley officiating. Interment will be in Greensport Baptist Cemetery. Mr. Watson was a member of Powderly, Pell City, and Ashville Masonic Lodges. He was retired from Mercury Freight Lines. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; by his parents, A.H. and Jewel Watson; and a granddaughter, Kristy Kimbrell. He is survived by two daughters, Belinda (Jackie) Johnston of Alabaster, and Sherry Smith of Ashville; by a son, Alfred Howard Watson, III of Pell City; by five grandchildren, Kim (Allen) Marler of Alabaster, Lori (Jon) Davis of Ashville, Alfred Howard Watson IV of Springville, Erik Johnston and Evan Johnston, both of Montgomery; four great grandchildren, Shelby, Emily, and Nathan of Alabaster and J.D. of Ashville; fiance, Vonzell Smith of Pell City; sister, Carolyn (James) Jones; and a brother, Preston (Candy) Watson, both of Florida. TALLADEGA Funeral services for Betty R. Watts, 73, will be Saturday, March 18, at 3 p.m. from the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ivan Fuller officiating. Burial will follow from the Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Watts died Thursday, March 16, at her residence. Survivors are her husband, Robert Watts of Talladega; five daughters, Charlotte Rice of Talladega, Jo Allison of Monck Corner, SC, Jane Sherwood of Talladega, Sue Weldon of Munford, and Serenia Smith of Talladega; four sisters, Shirley Boone of Anniston, Sylvia Hill of Talladega, Barbara Gooden of Talladega, and Bonnie Jenkins of Talladega; four brothers, Ernest Stancell of Anniston, Junior Wyatt of Talladega, Jesse Wyatt of Lincoln, and Raymond Wyatt of Talladega; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Mrs. Watts is preceded in death by a son, Jerry Jennings; and a brother, J.D. Stancell. Mrs. Watts was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was also a retired employee of the church. Active pallbearers are Jason Allison, Mark Allison, Nicholas Rice, Matt Weldon, Luke Jennings, Brian Smith, Josh McDonald, and Michael Brewer. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the services.
