LUVENIA TURMAN HINES

FAYETTEVILLE, NC Services for Luvenia Turman Hines, 89, formerly of Lincoln, will be Friday, March 31, at 1 p.m. at Holy Hill Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ with Bishop Edward Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ms. Hines died Friday, March 24, at Cape Fear Medical Center. She is survived by nine children, Clara Roberson-Hardin, Bertha Robinson, Verby Hines, Evelyn Orr, Charlie Hines Jr., Mary Fairfax, James Hines, Shirley Clark, Billy Hines; brothers, Theodis Turman, Henry Turman, Luke Turman, Amos Turman; sisters, Maggie Heflin, Eva Mae Wood, Naomi Lee Wood, Willie Ruth Hann; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. The body will be at the church one hour before the services. Sims Funeral Service will direct.

ADREN "CHANCE" HOWARD

PELL CITY Funeral service for Adren "Chance" Howard, age 5, will be March 30, at 2 p.m. at Leeds Congregational Holiness Church. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds directed the service.

B. C. KING

CHILDERSBURG B. C. King, age 78, passed away at UAB Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit and went to be with the Lord on March 29, 2006. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Jo of Childersburg; daughter, Pat (Gary) Haisten of Childersburg; son, Michael King of Birmingham; grandsons, Hunter (Laura) Haisten of Chelsea and Wes Haisten of Birmingham; and great granddaughter, Hallie Claire Haisten of Chelsea. Mr. King enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Kimberly-Clark Corporation with 34 years of service. Mr. King was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Childersburg and was also a Gideon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon International, P.O. Box 234, Sylacauga, AL 35150 or to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 356, Childersburg, AL 35044. Visitation will be Thursday, March 30, from 6-8 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home, Childersburg Chapel. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church, Childersburg on Friday, March 31, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Albert Pike and Dr. John Beck officiating. Interment will be at Greenhill Memorial Gardens, Childersburg.

Pallbearers will be Joe Gardner, Ben Knight, Buddy Morris, Charles Parker, Ron Partain, and Eddie Slaten. Honorary pallbearers will be Gideons and Gideons Auxiliary, Sylacauga Camp. Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the services.

FRANCES ROBERTA PATE

CHILDERSBURG Funeral service for Frances Roberta Pate, 88, will be Friday, March 31, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Byron White officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Pate died Wednesday, March 29, at her residence. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She retired from the Water & Gas Board of the City of Childersburg with 10 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Pate. She is survived by three sons, George Pate and wife Audrey of Childersburg, Sam Pate and wife Mary Louise of Tullahoma, TN, and Connie Mac Pate and wife Mary of Nesbit, Miss; sisters-in-law, Connie Franklin of Clanton and Billie Pate of Thorsby; nine grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, March 30, from 5:30-8 p.m. at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel. The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to First United Methodist Church New Roof Fund. Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.

OHATCHEE George T. Wright, 86, died Tuesday, March 28, at Stringfellow Hospital. Ervin Funeral Chapel will announce arrangements.

VINCENT Kevin (Bay Bay) Youngblood, 23, died Tuesday, March 28. Community Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

LORAINE COLE BROWN
TALLADEGA Funeral services for Loraine Cole Brown, 56, will be Saturday, April 1, at 1:30 p.m. at Terry's Chapel with the Rev. Richard Fair officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. Mrs. Brown died Thursday, March 23, at Brookwood Medical Center. She was a graduate of Talladega County Training School; was in the U.S. Army for eight years and was honorably discharged. While in the Army, she was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Expert Badge with M-16 Rifle Bar and the Good Conduct Medal.

She is survived by her husband, James Brown of Talladega; daughters, Tameka Brown of Huntsville; son, Adam Brown of Talladega; sisters, Clara Rodes of Cincinnati, Ohio, LaRendi Tooks of Colorado Springs, Col., and Ollie McQuarter of Dayton, Ohio; and two grandchildren. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the services.

MAURICE "HOOKIE" GARRETT

TALLADEGA Funeral services for Maurice "Hookie" Garrett, 32, will be Saturday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at Kingston Baptist Church with Keith Bernard Lawson and Jimmy Lee Huggins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Garrett died Thursday, March 23, at UAB Hospital. He was a graduate of Talladega County Training School; was formerly employed by Brassfield & Gorrie Construction Company.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Jean Miles Garrett of Talladega; sons, LaDrekez Calhoun of Talladega; parent, Florence Garrett of Alpine; sisters, Donna Garrett of Alpine, Lori Pope of Talladega, and Jannie Keith of Alpine; and brothers, Curtis Garrett, Ulysses Jones and John Henry Jones III, all of Alpine, Dale Jones of Childersburg and Houston Jones of Alpine. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the services.

TALLADEGA Funeral service for Terry L. Isbell, 48, will be Sunday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds will direct the service.

SYLACAUGA Kate Isom, 84, died Thursday, March 30, at Coosa Valley Medical Center. Community Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

EVELYN WALKER (L.V.) JEMISON

MUNFORD Services for Evelyn Walker (L.V.) Jemison, 80, will be Saturday, April 1, at 1 p.m. at Kelly Spring Baptist Church with Pastor L.L. Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ms. Jemison died Monday at Talladega Healthcare.

She is survived by two daughters, Virginia Jemison of Akron, Ohio, and Deborah Curry of Detroit, Michigan; son, James Edward Jemison of Buffalo, New York; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the services. Sims Funeral Service will direct.

DAVID KEY

ASHLAND Funeral services for Mr. David Key, age 56, will be Saturday, April 1, at 10 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland with Bro. Bill Huffaker officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland City Cemetery. Mr. Key passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Clay County Nursing Home. He was a native of Nashville, Tenn., a former resident of Birmingham but had lived in Clay County for the last 14 years. He was a graduate of Phillips High School in Birmingham; was a musician, singer and club owner in the Birmingham area for over 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ashland.

He is survived by a daughter, Chass Key of Memphis, Tenn.; father, John Key (Mary) of Talladega; sister, Carolyn Drummonds of Ashland; and several extended family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Marie Key; and a brother, Gary Richard Key. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday March 31, and until service time Saturday, April 1. Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland in charge of the arrangements.

B. C. KING

Interment will be at Greenhill Memorial Gardens, Childersburg.

Pallbearers will be Joe Gardner, Ben Knight, Buddy Morris, Charles Parker, Ron Partain, and Eddie Slaten. Honorary pallbearers will be Gideons and Gideons Auxiliary, Sylacauga Camp. Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the services.

ARCHIE C. LEBRON

ROCKFORD Archie C. LeBron died at his home on Hatchet Creek on March 29. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama on Nov. 13, 1943, to the late Adolphe and Warree Carmichael LeBron. He was raised in Montezuma, Georgia and the woods of Coosa County, where he returned to build his retirement home in 2002. He was a graduate of Auburn University, as well as Oklahoma University and the University of Nebraska. He retired as a Colonel from the Air Force Reserves after serving around the world as a meteorologist. He also retired from Texas Instruments in Dallas, where he lived with his wife and children for 26 years.

He was married to Linda for over 35 years. His son, Graham, is a musician based in Oakland, California. His daughter, Camille, is a pastor in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she lives with her husband, Jonathan Powell. Archie was very proud that his children have chosen to use their creative gifts to bring joy to others. He is also survived by his sister, Sally Holland, and brother, Malcom LeBron, and countless faithful friends and family. Archie's call in life was simply to be helpful to others. He lived a dedicated and active life of faithful service to his church and community, and to friends and strangers. He was a proud Presbyterian Elder and his favorite hour of the week was teaching his Sunday School class at First Presbyterian Church of Sylacauga.

His last months were filled with messages of love from all over the country, reminding him of how important he had been in so many lives in so many quiet ways. Private burial will be in the family Cemetery, a Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be at following the graveside, at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at First Presbyterian Church of Sylacauga, the Rev. Pete McElrath and other pastor friends presiding. Friends and family are invited to the house he loved from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday for storytelling and joyful remembering. In honor of his life, and his love for the Alabama outdoors and the Presbyterian Church, the Canoe Launch at the new Living River Presbyterian Camp & Conference Center will be built in Archie's name. Donations may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 100 South Norton, Sylacauga, AL 35150. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

ERA STREET

ASHLAND Era Street, 101, died Wednesday, March 29, at Clay County Hospital. Sims Funeral Service will announce arrangements.

CHARLES TAYLOR HEMPSTEAD

LONG ISLAND, NY Charles Taylor, 74, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will announce arrangements.

ELLA SWAIN WATSON

SMYRNA, Ga.- Funeral services for Ella Swain Watson, 74, formerly of Childersburg, will be Saturday, April 1, at 11:30 a.m. at Terry's Chapel with the Rev. B.E. McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Watson died Tuesday, March 28, at Kennestone Hospital, Marietta, Ga. She was a graduate of Mt. Olive High School and Alabama A&M University; was a member of World Wide Church of God; retired from the Chicago Board of Education after teaching 32 years.

She is survived by daughter, Cynthia Marrs of Marietta, Ga.; son, Therone Watson of Flossomore, Ill.; sisters, May Kelby, Marion Kelby, and Netherland Kelby, all of Kansas City, Kan.; brother, Lamar Swain of Talladega, Lochinuar Swain of Anniston; Algie Swain Jr. of Pell City; and five grandchildren. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the services.

April 1, 2006

FAIRY BELL GRIFFITH

TALLADEGA Funeral services for Fairy Bell Griffith, 88, will be Sunday, April 2, at 2 p.m. from the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charlie Bolt officiating. Burial will follow from the Pine Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Griffith passed away March 30, 2006, at Talladega Healthcare.

Survivors are two daughters, Ann Cooper of Ashland and Shelby Hand of Talladega; one son, Willie Duke of Talladega; one brother, Thomas A. Wilcox of Talladega; 15 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 25 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Griffith is preceded in death by two daughters, Kathleen Dudley and Carolyn Buchanan. Active pallbearers are Timmy Tipton, Colt Tipton, Michael Avery Moore, Donny Pitts, Jimmy Duke, and Bill Duke. Mrs. Griffith was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County. She was a retired textile worker and was of the Baptist Faith. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6-8 p.m. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the services.

KAY C. MOSLEY

SYLACAUGA Kay C. Mosley, 64, died Friday, March 31, at her residence. Radney-Smith Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

BARRY (BIG BOSS) PATTERSON

MUNFORD Barry (Big Boss) Patterson, 45, died Thursday, March 30, at his residence. Ervin Funeral Chapel will announce arrangements.

MILDRED TUTTLE BALL WILSON

PELL CITY Funeral services for Mildred Tuttle Ball Wilson, 81, will be Sunday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Chapel in Pell City. Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Wilson died Thursday, March 30, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her husband's Albert Ball and Avery Wilson; her parents, Wilbur and Ida Tuttle; brother, Jackie Tuttle; sister, Sarah Tuttle; and son-in-law, Wayne Gallups. She was born and raised in Pell City; accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour at a young age and praised Him to the end. She loved her family and leaves many cherished memories. She leaves behind her beloved pet companion, Cindy. She retired from Avondale Mills. She passed away after a lengthy illness, peacefully.

She is survived by her son, Ray (Linda) Ball; daughter, Doris Gallups; four sisters, Dorothy Layton, Margie Hutton, Peggy Daffron, and Bit Layton; four grandchildren, Rita (Mike) Donahoo, Mark Gallups, Michael Gallups, and Tammy Sims; and four great grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, April 1, from 6-9 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the services.
