SYLACAUGA Funeral service for Richard E. Dill, 52, will be Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Ray Cooper officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Dill died Sunday, Nov. 19, at Baptist Medical Center Princeton. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Dill; and step-father, Clifford Medley. He is survived by his wife, June Dill of Sylacauga; son, Christopher Dill and wife Anna of Anniston; daughter, April Dill Peppers and husband Steve of Sylacauga; mother, Dorothy E. Medley of Childersburg; sister, Susan Dill Riddle and husband Mark of Ocean Springs, MS; granddaughters, Brittany Peppers and Katelin Dill; grandson, Steven Peppers; step-mother, Betty Dill of Columbiana; step-sisters, Annette Mooney, Karen Corn and Brenda Yager of Columbiana, and Teresa Gregory of Mississippi; step-brothers, Cliff Medley of Talladega, Tracy Medley of Alex City and Andy Medley of Childersburg. GRAHAM, TX Mrs. Bertha Gaither Goray, age 80, formerly of Talladega, passed away Nov. 18, at her home. Talladega Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

VIRGINIA LEONA "ONNIE" McDONALD

SYLACAUGA Funeral service for Virginia Leona "Onnie" McDonald, 99, will be Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 11:30 a.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Bill Jones and the Rev. Louie Fincher officiating. Interment will be in Childersburg City Cemetery. Mrs. McDonald died Sunday, Nov. 19, at Sylacauga Health and Rehab Center. She was of the Nazarene faith and a life-long resident of Alabama. She leaves behind many friends and family members to be with her Lord. We will all miss you, "Miss Mac". She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Lester McDonald; daughter, Dorothy Reynolds; son, James McDonald; and brothers, A.C. Snyder and Clyde Snyder. She is survived by son, Charles L. Reynolds and wife Sue of Childersburg; daughters, Carleen Veazey and husband Brenton of Fayetteville, Jeanette Giddens and husband David of Childersburg, and Kathy Harris and husband Robert of Childersburg; brother, Tolly Snyder and wife Evelyn of Childersburg; grandchildren, Wayne Veazey and wife Joyce, Sue Smith and husband Dandy, Wanda Wombough and husband Joe, Ronnie Reynolds, and Robbie Harris and wife Diana; four great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. FRANKLIN EDWARD (EDDIE) POLK

TALLADEGA Funeral services for Franklin Edward (Eddie) Polk, 28, will be Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at Sycamore Congregational Holiness Church with the Rev. Doris McClellan officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Polk died Sunday, Nov. 19, at Coosa Valley Medical Center. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Stewart of Sylacauga; father, James Kelly of Sylacauga; three brothers, Kenneth Kelly, Phillip Kelly, and Michael Kelly all of Sylacauga; three sisters, Barbara Faulkner and Eva McCoy both of Sylacauga, and Christine Munoz of Sycamore; two children; step-sister, Sandra Jones of Sycamore; two step-brothers, David E. Stewart and Michael D. Stewart of Sylacauga; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a host of friends. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the church at 4:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be James Muner, Fidel Munoz, DeWayne DeLee, Chris Filer, Ben Hammonds, and Mark Ogle. Curtis and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FRANCIS LOIS SIMMONS

TALLADEGA Funeral services for retired Lieutenant Colonel Francis Lois Simmons, age 56, will be Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. from the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gordon Lee officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow from the Coosa Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in St. Clair County. Mrs. Simmons passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2006 at her home. Survivors are her husband, Dwain Simmons of Talladega; her father, Retired Lieutenant Colonel John M. Trimm of Olive Brach, MS; two sisters, Ann Trimm Bonham and her husband Cliff of Rocky Mt, NC, Janice Trimm Warner and her husband Tony of Crownsville, MD. Members of the United States Army Honor Guard will serve as active pallbearers. Mrs. Simmons was a former resident of St. Clair County and had been a resident of Talladega County for the past four years. She was a member of the Coosa Valley Baptist Church in St. Clair County and was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army with 20 years of service to her country. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the services.

She is survived by daughters, Nelda Crawford and husband Mark of Grove Hill, Celia White of Sylacauga, Barbara Robertson of Houston, TX, and Michelle Agbayani of Honolulu, HI; brother, Ray Grizzle of Birmingham; sisters, Mamie Wilson of Demopolis, Gail Rhodes of Birmingham, and Ruth Watkins of Muncie, IN; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mrs. Wellington died Nov. 17, 2006. She is survived by one daughter, Yvonne Boyce Anderson; two sons, Jerald Boyce and Mark Anthony Boyce; two sisters, Tiller Mae Clopton and Linda Franklin; three brothers, L.C. GRAHAM, TX Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Lavenia Goray, age 80, formerly of Talladega, will be Friday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m. from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Clyde Pettus officiating. Burial will follow from the church cemetery. Mrs. Goray passed away Nov. 18, at her home in Graham, Texas. Survivors are her husband, William "Bill" Goray of Graham, Texas; one daughter, Debbie Black and her husband Ray of Graham, Texas; one son, Les Goray and his wife Donna of Graham, Texas; grandchildren, Lynn Miller and her husband Steve, Lisa Black, Amber Reyes and her husband Oscar, Cody Black and his wife Alicia, and Jared Black; and great grandchildren, Will Miller, Charlie Miller, Scarlett Miller, Brady Black, Kasen Black, Macall Reyes, Brock Reyes, Hannah Hackler, and Halle Black. Active pallbearers are Paul Gaither, Talmadge Gaither, Ray Studdard, Roy Barnes, Harry Gaither, Pete Gaither, Glen Gaither, Jerry Horton. Mrs. Goray was a native of Talladega County where she lived most all of her life and had been a resident of Graham, Texas for the past several years. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Mrs. Goray will lie in state at the church one hour before services. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the services.

TALLADEGA James Lawler III, 64, died Monday, Nov. 20, at V.A. Medical Center in Birmingham. Sims Funeral Service will announce arrangements.

VIVIAN SUMNERS PORTER

LAFAYETTE, LA A memorial service will be at Saturday, Nov. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the Living Word Church in Sylacauga (located on Highway 280) for Vivian Sumners Porter, 61. Vivian was born in Key West, Florida on Nov. 30, 1944 and went to be with the Lord at her residence in Lafayette, Louisiana on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 at 8:40 p.m. She is survived by two sons, Dennis Porter of Lafayette, LA, and Greg Porter and his wife Gwen, also of Lafayette, LA; two grandchildren, Kyleen Porter and Caroline Porter, both of Lafayette; two brothers, Larry Sumners and Dane Sumners, both of Sylacauga; and a step grandchild, Tori Verret of Lafayette. She is survived by daughter, Jo Ann Christopher Shell and husband Charles of Monroe, GA; grandchildren, Charles Christopher Shell, Gregory Frank Shell, Russell Alan Shell, Lisa Ruth Christopher O'Hara, Sydney Lynn Christopher Stevens, and Charles William Christopher Jr.; great grandchildren, Aaron Gregory Shell, Chadwick Veall Shell, Lindsey Ann O'Hara, Patrick Christopher O'Hara, Valeria Stevens, and Haley Dundridge; daughter-in-law, Sydney Delores Christopher. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Garrett died Sunday, Nov. 19, at Talladega Healthcare Center. He was a member of Kingston Missionary Baptist Church; retired from Kimberly-Clark Corp. with 25 years of service; owner of Garrett Construction Co. for 15 years; first black to be a candidate for County Commissioner. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nancy Garrett of Childersburg; sons, Mr. Patrick (Gail) Garrett of Huntsville and Mr. Douglas (Patricia) Garrett of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Mrs. Essie (Harry) Hall of Aiken, SC and Ms. Kristi Garrett of Pelham; sisters, Ms. Nona Mae Cole of Yonkers, NY and Mrs. Mozell (W.C.) Lynch of Eliria, OH; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The body may be viewed Thursday, Nov. 23 from 3-6 p.m. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before service. SYLACAUGA Graveside services for Mrs. Ruth Jones, 76, are Friday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m. from the Corinth Cemetery with the Rev. Doyle Cook officiating. Mrs. Jones died Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Brookwood Medical Center.

Survivors include five daughters, Linda Barns, Wanda Rogers, Ina Jones, Pamela Kidd, Tammy Jones, all of Sylacauga; four sons, James Jones of Montgomery, Melvin Jones of Birmingham, Randy Jones of Sylacauga, Joel Jones of Childersburg; two sisters, Betty Powell and Sally Player both of Sycamore; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mrs. Jones was a native of Talladega County. Family will receive friends Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Childersburg Mortuary will direct the services.

ELIZABETH JO (BETTY) McMILLIAN

CHILDERSBURG Funeral services for Elizabeth Jo (Betty) McMillian, 77, will be Saturday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel with the Rev. David Mann officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Memorial Gardens. Mrs. McMillian died Tuesday, Nov. 21, at St. Clair Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her brother, Vance Swindle. She was a loving mother and devoted wife and a huge Alabama fan. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert C. (Bobby) McMillian of Childersburg; two sons, Robert C. "Chuck" McMillian Jr. of Childersburg and James F. "Jimmy" McMillian and wife Rae of Childersburg; one brother, H.S. (Spooky) Swindle of Birmingham; sister, Jane Swindle Brom of Jasper; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren, Daniel and Elizabeth Davenport. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 24, from 5-8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Larry Cochran, Randy Gafford, Bo Brannen, Danny Roberson, Tony Aarhus, and Tim Talley. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Davenport, Michael Davenport, and Clete Atchley. Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the services.

Survivors include wife, Bernadette Virden; sons, Alandus L. Virden and Maurice S. Virden; daughters, LaShunda Graham and Veronica A. Harris; brothers, Claude F. Virden, Clausell Virden, Stacy Virden, Rocky Virden; sisters, Ada Alexander, Margaret Wilson, Shelia Austin; and eight grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Clausell and Mabelle Virden.
