PELL CITY Funeral service for Ruby Hannah Bagwell, 72, will be Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at Usrey Chapel, Pell City with the Rev. Doug Ford officiating. Burial will be in Pope's Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Bagwell died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006. She was a member of Pope's Chapel Methodist Church. Mrs. Bagwell is survived by sons, Danny Joe Bagwell of Pell City and Delbert L. Bagwell of Vicksburg, MS; daughter, Cathy Hicks of Pell City; grandchildren, Dana Smith, Alan Hicks, Tommy Hicks, Bobby Bagwell, Jessica Bagwell, Bobbie Ray Foster, Lexi Foster, Will Foster, Tiffany Edwards, and Kaylee Edwards; and four great grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Alan Hicks, Tommy Hicks, Jerry Hicks, Wes Takacs, George Bagwell, Chris Baldwin, and Kevin Todd. Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

The infant died Wednesday, Nov. 29, in Pensacola, Florida. She is survived by father, Johnny Burnett; mother, Jessica Eldridge; grandmothers, Sharon Eldridge and Mary Bell Robinson; grandfather, James Eldridge; great-grandmother, Louise Snyder; all of Sylacauga. SYLACAUGA Funeral service for Mrs. Frankie Dewheart, 85, will be at on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at Community Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Seals officiating. Burial will be at in Tallassahatchie Baptist Church Cemetery, Childersburg. Mrs. Dewheart died Saturday, Dec. 2, at Sylacauga Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She is survived by her sisters, Flora Doss of Sylacauga and Sarah Thomas of Childersburg; grandchildren, Sylvia Patrick of Akron, Ohio, JoAnn Morris of Sylacauga, Anthony Palmer of Texas, and Derrick Palmin of Gadsden; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends. Flowerbearers will be friends of the family.

CHARLES LEE DOWNING SR.

SYLACAUGA Funeral service for Charles Lee Downing Sr. will be Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Byron White officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery in Walnut Hill, Alabama, outside of Dadeville. Mr. Downing died Saturday evening, Dec. 2, 2006 at a Birmingham hospital. He was born May 12, 1932 at Blue Creek on Lake Martin, and graduated from Dadeville High School. Charles was a member of the United Methodist Church. He served honorably in the United States Army being deployed to Berlin, Germany. His primary duty there was serving as a member of the Joint Allied Forces detail stationed at Spandau Prison, guarding war criminals who answered only to Adolf Hitler during World War II. He was retired from Alabama Power Company. He worked at Plant Gaston in Wilsonville for many years as a lab technician, yard crew foreman, and a coal handling foreman. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Willie Lee Downing of Dadeville; and his brothers, Neil Downing of Sylacauga and Richard Downing of Dadeville. He was a master Mason and a member of Dadeville Masonic Lodge No. 71 for over 50 years and was a member of Scottish Rite and Zamora Shrine Temple. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Downing; daughter, Christy Downing; son, Charles Lee (Rusty) Downing; nephews, Michael Downing, Randy Downing, and Mitchell Downing; nieces, Tammy (Brent) Puckett, Debra Dunn, and Dana McLendon; sisters-in-law, Raye (Neil) Downing and Gertie (Richard) Downing; and several grandnieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. The family will accept flowers or contributions to Shriners Hospitals, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL, 33607-1460 or First UMC New World Choir, 105 E. Graveside service will be Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at Upper Pickensville Cemetery in Pickensville, Ala. Mr. Meverden died Saturday, Dec. 2, at Trinity Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle Meverden and Arabelle Marchek; father-in-law, Ted Ezelle; and sister-in-law, Beth Ezelle. He was a happy resident of Sylacauga for the past 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Martha Jean Meverden of Sylacauga; son, Jeffery Meverden and wife Tonya of Milwaukee, WI; two grandchildren; sisters, Marleen Tetzlaff and husband Ronnie of Wausau, WI; and Germaine Bomchill of Milwaukee, WI; mother-in-law, Virginia Ezelle of Pickensville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Becky Bittle and husband Richard of Pickensville; nephew, Ray Bittle of Pickensville; (Bear, Mutt, Mo II, Shiloh, and Gizmo). OPELIKA Graveside service for James F. Newman, 76, will be Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. at Garden Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Rusty Sowell officiating. Mr. Newman who died Sunday, Dec. 3, at East Alabama Medical Center was born May 27, 1930, in Sylacauga, Ala. Mr. Newman had been a resident of Opelika since 1970 and was retired from Uniroyal, Inc. with 25 years of service. Following retirement, he worked with Gene Newman Plumbing Company for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dean J. Newman in 1999. He is survived by two daughters, Mae Smith of Sylacauga and Bonnie Heath of Opelika; two sons, Jimmy (Sharon) Newman of Dadeville and Gene (Pansy) Newman of Opelika; one sister, Sarah Anne Greene of Sylacauga; 14 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. TALLADEGA Graveside Rites for Lucille Williams Poe, 89, will be Thursday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at Chandler Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Poe died Saturday, Dec. 2, at her residence. She was a native of Clay County but lived most of her life in Talladega County. Mrs. Poe was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Poe; son, Thomas Vardaman; and parents, Freeman "Doc" and Hattie Williams. She is survived by three daughters, Betty Wilson of Talladega, Peggy Huffstetler and husband Jerry of Talladega, Jane Herrington and husband Dennis of Alpine; one brother, Fred Williams of Talladega; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Burial will be in Unity Baptist Cemetery. Ms. Rogers died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006. She was a retired Information Management Specialist from the 117th ARW after 27 years of service. She was a Veteran of Desert Shield. She is survived by son, Jacob (Melanie) Rogers of Pell City; brother, Glen Simpler of Montgomery; and sisters, Mary Lee Tucker of Huntsville and Jean Craig of Georgia. PELL CITY Funeral services for Ila Marie Smith Turner, 73, will be Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Pell City with the Rev. Sherry Reynolds and the Rev. Mark Parris officiating. Interment will be in Valley Hill Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Turner died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006. She is survived by her husband, James Douglas Turner Sr.; daughter, Alice Turner Hestley and husband the Rev. Russell S. Hestley; son, James Douglas Turner Jr. and wife Dr. Connie Hill; four grandchildren, Benjamin Douglas Hestley, Jean Marie Hestley, Emma Lunita Turner, and Aubrey Jacobs Turner. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park. Ms. Turner died Thursday, Nov. 30, at UAB Hospital. She was a member of Mt. Cleveland Baptist Church; attended school in California and Georgia school systems; former employee of Fresh Express Foods. She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby Swain; and grandparents, Lillie Mae Turner, Eathen Swain, and Lizzie Swain. She is survived by sons, Mr. Eric C. Turner of College Park, Ga.and Mr. Darren E. Turner of Talladega; daughter, Ms. Bre'Anna C. Turner of Talladega; mother, Ms. Almeta (Turner) Turner of Talladega; brothers, Mr. Daniel M. Mr. Wilson died Sunday, Dec. 3, at his residence. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wilson; and his parents, Ed Wilson and Miriah Sawyer Wilson. He retired from Russ Engineering Company after 45 years of service and was a member of Tinney Street Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Jemison Wilson of Talladega; daughters, Benita (Harry) Gooden of Oxford and Barbara Spratling of Talladega; sons, Wayne (Shirley Ruth) Wilson, Tyrone Wilson, Bruce Wilson, Billy Wilson, Woodrow (Shirley Mae) Wilson, Sylvester (Shirley Ann) Wilson, all of Talladega, and DeWitt (Rene) Wilson of Munford; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mrs. Bearden died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006. She was a loving wife and mother, and was very giving to other people. She was a very accomplished artist. Along with her husband, she was co-owner of Charlie's Country Catfish. She was preceded in death by her father, Percy Hutchens. She is survived by her husband, Charles Daniel Bearden; sons, Charles Allen Bearden and Keith Daniel Bearden; mother, Grace Amason; brother, Mack Hutchens; and grandchildren, Anna Bearden and William Bearden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Roosevelt (Corine) Dates; and his brother, Jimmy Lawson. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty R. Dates of Talladega; sons, Mr. Maurice (Rene'e) Dates, Mr. Jerry (Josette) Dates Jr., Mr. Jermaine Dates, all of Talladega; daughter, Ms. Sherry Dates of Montgomery; extended family, Mr. Nathanial (Vanessa) Kelly, Mr. Tyrone Kelly, all of Talladega and Mr. Jerry (Bethanie) Evans of Indianapolis, IN; brother, Mr. Cecil Dates of Talladega; sister, Mrs. Carolyn (C.W.) Dee passed away Monday, Dec. 11, in Clay County. Survivors are her life partner, Lynn Goray of Talladega; her father, Jack Huffmaster and his wife Lula G. of Newton, Georgia; her mother, Patricia Blane of Houston, Texas; her sister, Mary Jane Huffmaster Trotter of Houston, Texas; her grandmother, Eva B. Ramsey of Houston, Texas; one step brother, Sammy Brown of Baker County, Georgia; one nephew, Mark Adam Trotter of Houston, Texas; Lynn Goray's mother, Elizabeth Smith and her husband Kenneth of Talladega; Lynn Goray's brother, Kenny Smith of Talladega; Dee is also survived by her special pets, Dudley, DeeDee, Joel Brice, Fuzzy, Moses Stickers, New, Lincoln, Elvis, BeeBee, CeeCee, and Moonpie. Dee was a native of Brooks County, Georgia and had been a resident of Talladega County for the past eight years. She was a graduate of Brooks County High School and attended Berry College and Valdosta State University. She was a former employee of Honda in Lincoln and Vulcan E Coating in Columbiana. She was an avid animal lover. Talladega Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Robinson died Thursday, Dec. 7, at Coosa Valley Medical Center. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mrs. Allison Robinson; three sons, Ryan (Jaclyn), Rodrez, and Alan; his mother, Betty Robinson; two sisters, Dorothy Robinson and Joann Robinson; three brothers, Jeffery, Steven, and Christopher Robinson; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. (Betty Jo) Pearson of Lincoln; and foster daughter, Mrs. Mildred (Arthur) Polela of Otisco, IN; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
