Kate McClendon

1907-2003

Graveside services for Kate McClendon, 96, of LaFayette were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at LaFayette City Cemetery. The Revs. Charles Whitson and Clifford DeLee officiated. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Jeff Jones Funeral Home.

Mrs. McClendon died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Russell Medical Center. She was born Oct. 10, 1907, in Chambers County to Robert and Annie Williams. She was retired from Avondale Mills and was a member of LaFayette Heights Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Nell Smith of Lanett and Sandra Newberry of Alexander City; one son, Clyde McClendon Jr. of LaFayette; two sisters, Sarah Hansen of Lake Martin and Ruth Thomas of Lynchburg, Va.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Clyde McClendon Sr.

Jeff Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

George E. Gaddis Sr.

1922-2003

Funeral services for George E. Gaddis Sr., 81, of Goodwater will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Armour's Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Macedonia Memorial Garden in Goodwater.

Mr. Gaddis died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Coosa Valley Medical Center. He was born Jan. 22, 1922, in Coosa County to Henry and Willie Clisby Gaddis.

He is survived by his wife Willie Mae Gaddis; two daughters, Helen Gaddis Williams of Goodwater and Sue Ford of Chicago; five sons George E. Gaddis Jr. of Chicago, James Henry Gaddis of Goodwater, Cuella Gaddis of Sylacauga, Terrell Gaddis of Rockford and Gregg Gaddis of Goodwater; his sister Edna Anderson of Alexander City; two brothers Robert Gaddis and Lloyd Gaddis, both of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Armour's Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Staff Sgt. Fred Thomas USAF, ret.

1913-2003

Graveside services for Staff Sgt. Fred Thomas USAF, ret., 90, of Alexander City will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Greenview Cemetery in Goodwater. The Revs. Scott Jefferies and Rev. Pete McElrath will officiate. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home.

Mr. Thomas died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at his residence. He was born July 20, 1913, in Goodwater to Early Hill and Grace Carolyn Johnson Thomas. He was a food service tech. for the United State Air Force and was a member of the Goodwater Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie Watson Thomas of Alexander City; two daughters, Brenda Nelson Borger of Texas and Fran Worrell and husband Mike of Alexander City; two grandchildren, Robert Leroy Nelson Jr. and wife Nichole of Orlando and Robin Lynn Parker and husband Jerald of Horn Lake, Miss.; four grandchildren, Brooke Nichole Lynn Parker, Jonathan Allen Taylor Parker, Cole Austin Nelson and Cade Ashton Nelson; one sister Sarah Amanda Thomas of Marvyn.

The family requests no flowers but donations may be made to Goodwater Presbyterian Church or Friends of Hospice at Russell Medical Center, 3368 Highway 280, Suite G-14, Alexander City, AL 35010.

Radney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leon Railey

Dec. 22, 2003

Funeral services for the Rev. Leon Railey, 85, of Alexander City will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at First United Methodist Church in Alexander City. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003.

Rev. Railey died Dec. 22, 2003, at his residence.

The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at First United Methodist Church.

Annie Mae Washburn

1910-2003

Funeral services for Annie Mae Washburn, 93, of Camp Hill will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at County Line Baptist Church. Bros. Wayne Barrett and Jimmy Allen will officiate. Burial will follow at Tallapoosa Memory Gardens. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Langley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Washburn died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003,. She was born Friday, May 27, 1910. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons; Larry Washburn and wife Shirley of Fayetteville, Ga., and Dan Washburn and wife Shirlene of Montgomery; two brothers, John Will Hamby of Lincoln and Wayne Hamby of Montgomery; one sister, Helen Burgess of Roswell, Ga.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to County Line Baptist Church at 10280 County Road 48, Camp Hill, AL 36850 or to Camp ASCCA in Jackson's Gap, AL 36831.

Langley Funeral Home of Camp Hill is in charge of arrangements.

Ricky D. Jackson

1968-2003

Graveside services for Ricky D. Jackson, 35, of Alexander City were held on Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Bishop Eddie L. Edwards officiated.

Mr. Jackson died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at his residence. He was born Dec. 14, 1968, to Leroy and Helen Irene Jackson.

He is survived by two sisters, Vicky J. Jackson and Linda Maxwell and husband Lavon of Alexander City; one brother, Tommie N. Jackson of Huntsville; his grandmother, Susie Young and his grandfather, Jake Young Jr., both of Alexander City; his great-grandmother, Alcy Meadows of Alexander City; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Reneista Duke

1927-2003

Funeral services for Reneista Duke, 76, of Alexander City will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003 at Radney Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Clayton Gilbert will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alexander City Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home.

Ms. Duke died on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Bethany House in Auburn. She died of lung cancer. She served in the Armed Forces for four years, traveling throughout the United States before returning to Alexander City where she managed MATS, a longtime convenience store in the area. Upon her retirement, she stayed with her mother, Gladys Keel, enabling here to live her last years comfortably at her own home. One her favorite things was watching and calling in to "The Front Porch," a local morning show in the area. She greatly enjoyed participating in the daily trivia and having conversations with Kenny Dean and Blake Shaffer. Her wit and humorous outlook enabled her to make lasting friendships in the Alexander City area. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her sister, Bernadette Duke Scott; two sisters-in-law, Faye Duke Wilson of Sylacauga and Faye Higgins Duke of Gadsden; a caring niece, Jacki Keel; special great-nieces, Tiffany Martin and Brittany McDonald; a very special great-nephew, Malik Allen; a special friend of long standing, Kelle Lea of Tuscaloosa as well as several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, step-father and three brothers, Cletus T. Duke Jr., Orliss J. Duke and Kenneth O. Duke.
