Shelia 'Kathy' Jones Nails

Funeral services for Shelia "Kathy" Jones Nails, 48, of Crane Hill are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the funeral home.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nails died Monday, July 21 at UAB Hospital.

Edith Jewel Dutton

Funeral services for Edith Jewel Dutton, 79, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at Bellview Heights Baptist Church, Delwin Kilgo and Charles Johnson officiating, with Burial in Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dutton died Sunday, July 20 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Jan. 21, 1924 to Henry and Australia Henderson Little. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Hollis Dutton.

Survivors include two sons, Larry (Connie) Dutton and Jack (Lori) Dutton, both of Cullman; a daughter, Debbie King of Cullman; a brother, Dewey Little of Knoxville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Opal Marie Black

Funeral services for Opal Marie Black, 75, of Cullman were Monday, July 21, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel,, Tommy Graves officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Black died Saturday, July 19 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Jan. 22, 1928 to Luther and Maude White Green.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Erwin Black of Cullman; two sons, Darrell (Sheila) Black and David (Karon) Black, both of Cullman; three daughters, Donna Vest and Linda (Gary) Raburn, both of Cullman, and Carol (Brad) Scott of Savannah, Ga.; two brothers, Charles Green and Bob Green, both of Cullman; a sister, Sadie Blagg of Cullman; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Sunday.

Lucille Coleman Howard

Graveside services for Lucille Coleman Howard, 78, of Tarrant will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at Forest Crest Cemetery, the Revs. Joe Gamble and Bill Cross officiating.

Ridout's Roebuck Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Howard died Saturday, July 19. She was born Sept. 28, 1924. She was a member of Boyles Baptist Church, a former member of Norwood Baptist Church, and the United Transportation Union Ladies Auxiliary Vulcan Lodge No. 318.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Coleman; and two sisters, Virginia Layfield and Doris Henderson.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, L.J. Howard; two daughters, Charlotte Ann (Roger) Brown of Arkadelphia and Audrey Aliene Marston of Center Point; a son, Randall Wayne (Phyllis) of Rockwall, Texas; a sister, Frances Boucher of Sarasota, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Nena (Jamie) Rooker of Hanceville, Nikki (Rev. Benny) Shipp of Cold Springs, R.J. Brown of Arkadelphia, Kimberly (Jody) Thompson of Fruithurst, Becky, Debbie and Rachel Howard of Rockwell, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rooker and Shanea Shipp.

Mildred Elizabeth Drong

Funeral services for Mildred Elizabeth Drong, 72, of Glencoe, Minn. will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, Fr. Ambrose Mahon officiating, with Burial in Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.

Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Drong died Saturday, July 19 at Bethesda Care Center in St. Paul, Minn. She was born May 27, 1931 in Cullman to George and Ann Mahler Meyer. She received the sacraments of baptism, first communion and confirmation at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Cullman. She graduated from the Sacred Heart High School and later attended the Sacred Heart Academy. On Nov. 18, 1952 she was married to Anthony Drong at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In 1961, the couple moved to Glencoe. She was employed by Green Giant in Glencoe and Medallion Kitchens in Waconia. She was an active member of the Catholic church by singing in the choir and helping with cleaning. She was a member of Council of Catholic Women and the Amercian Legion Auxiliary. She worked in her garden, made crafts, crocheted, knitted, fished, camped and enjoyed the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include her husband, Anthony Drong of Glencoe; two children, Veronica (Jeff) Renner of Herndon, Va. and Tom (Sarah) Drong of Glencoe; two grandchildren, Mitchell and Amber Drong; and sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Jane Meyer and Maimie Ellenburg, both of Cullman, Mary and Jim Vanwinkle of Renton, Wash., Bernice and Erbie Hopwood of Sharon, N.D., Frances and Gerald Brewer of Jamestown, N.D. and James and Pat Drong of Sanborn, N.D.

Pallbearers will be James Drong, Terry Primus, Jason Primus, Dale Van Erem, Yancey Schafer and Chris Jacques.

Visitation, parish prayer and rosary services will be today at the funeral home.

Dewitt Jackson Dye

Funeral services for Dewitt Jackson Dye, 93, of Eva will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Gum Pond Primitive Baptist Church, Guy Hunt and J.L. Hopper officiating, with Burial in Bethel Methodist Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dye died Monday, July 21 at his residence. He was born in Cullman County on Aug. 17, 1909 to A.G. "Babe" and Ethel Chambers Dye. He was a fork lift operator for King Pharr and attended Gum Pond Primitive Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leathie Ryan Dye; three brothers, Calvin Dye, Jerry "Cobbie" Dye and Ed Dye; and three sisters, Winford Lee Hayes, Lonnie Yancey and Ena Mae Kelley.

Survivors include his son, Rex (Pat) Dye of Miami; a brother, Mack Dye of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Evon Blalock of Nashville, Tenn.; and a granddaughter, Tracy (Armondo) Toboso of Miami.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nuelson Goodlett Jr.

Funeral services for Nuelson Goodlett Jr., 46, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Friendship Baptist Church in Upshaw, Roland Westmoreland officiating, with Burial in Friendship Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Goodlett died Tuesday, July 22 at his residence. He was born Sept. 3, 1956 in Hammond, Ind. to Nelson Sr. and Edith Westmoreland Goodlett. He was retired from the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a brother, John Goodlett; and three uncles, Henry Westmoreland and Cleo Westmoreland, both of Addison; and L.C. Goodlett of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Kathy Jones Nails

Funeral services for Kathy Jones Nails, 48, of Crane Hill will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Springhill Baptist Church, the Revs. Frank Wood and Larry Brown officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Nails died Monday, July 21 at University of Alabama Hospital. She was born Aug. 15, 1954 to Cletis M. and Eunice Whitlock Jones. She was a clerk in retail grocery.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Rayburn L. Nails; a daughter, Katrina (Nathan) Helms of Cullman; two stepdaughters, Barbara Ann (Teddy) Sparks of Holly Pond and Nancy (Mark) Goodwin of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Brenda (Kenneth) Freeman of Bremen and Sharon (Bernie) David of Humble, Texas; a grandchild, Austin Helms; six stepgrandchildren; one nephew; three nieces; and close friends, David and Beth Williams and Frank and Rita Guess.

Pallbearers will be Keith Carroll, Nathan Helms, David Williams, Frank Guess, Teddy Sparks and Benny Bailey.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Irona Guthery Nellis

Funeral services for Irona Guthery Nellis, 96, formerly of Cullman are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Nellis died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 in Tampa, Fla.

Eddie Caldwell

Funeral services for Eddie Caldwell, 71, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, the Revs. J.W. Dial and Junior Wolfe officiating, with Burial in Dosses Creek Cemetery in Bremen.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Caldwell died Monday, July 21 at Baptist Medical Center-Princeton in Birmingham. He was born in Cullman County on Aug. 30, 1931 to Paul and Ollie Greathouse Caldwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings, Willie Caldwell, Monroe Caldwell, Daisy Caldwell, Ruby Tubbs, Audie Hollis and Minnie Hogan.

Survivors include a sister, Beagie Mae Floyd of Cullman; a brother-in-law, Herman Hollis; a sister-in-law, Marion Caldwell; and special friend, Louise Stewart.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Billy Joe Hammock

Funeral services for Billy Joe Hammock, 71, of Akron, Ohio were held Monday, July 14, 2003 at Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, with Burial in Hillside Memorial Park.

Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hammock died Friday, July 11. He was born in Cullman and had been a resident of Akron for more than 40 years where he retired from Akron Plating with 37 years of service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and of the Home Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Hammock; and a great-grandson, David.

Survivors include his son, Ricky Joseph Hammock; three daughters, Vicky Jo Lawson, Renee Phillips and Dorothy Jean Clark; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Garnet; and a brother, Jack.

Herbert 'Cordelle' Bell

Funeral services for Herbert "Cordelle" Bell, 76, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2003 at Sardis No. 2 Baptist Church, the Rev. John White officiating, with graveside masonic rites at the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Bell died Wednesday, July 23 at his residence. He was born Jan. 10, 1927 in Winston County to Wilburn and Meley Mattox Bell. He was a tank sealer for Hayes Aircraft and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elbert Bell; and a sister, Vetrel Segars.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Cruce Bell of Addison; two sons, Craig (Sandy) Bell of Double Springs and Shannon (Leighann) Bell of Logan; two daughters, Rhonda (Gerald) Hayes of Addison and Sheila (John) White of Decatur; two sisters, Freda Rowell of Indiana and Jewell Dunkin of Cullman; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

'Mickey' Maxine Kelso Wilkey

Funeral services for "Mickey" Maxine Kelso Wilkey, 80, of Wilsonville, formerly of Birmingham, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home in Columbiana, David Conrad and the Rev. Joe Stone officiating, with Burial in Chilton Memorial Gardens in Clanton.

Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wilkey died Tuesday, July 22 at her residence after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Staunton, Ill. on Oct. 11, 1922. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Los Angeles, Calif., and the United States Navy Hospital Corps School in Bethesda, Md. She served in the W.A.V.E.S. at San Diego Naval Hospital during World War II. She was a member of the American Legion, lifetime member of Concordia Beneficial Society Ladies Auxiliary, where she served in many offices, including several terms as president. She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Max Durward and Genevieve Hoy Kelso; and a sister, Evalyn Kelso Fulcher.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Earl V. Wilkey; four daughters, Sandra (Bob) Sloan of Cullman, Susan (Manny) Vallin of Eufaula, Barbara (Buddy) Sisson of Conyers, Ga. and Leanne (David) Smith of Shelby; six granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and 17 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Faith Lutheran Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 427, 6704 Deerfoot Parkway, Clay, Ala. 35048.

Pallbearers will include Mrs. Kelso's eight nephews, Greg Wilkey, Wayne Wilkey, Gene Wilkey, Alan Wilkey, ENCS, USN, Dennis Wilkey, Bill Morrow, Tom Morrow and Dennis McMillan.

Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services.

Opal Hazel Lane

Funeral services for Opal Hazel Lane, 87, of Decatur will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2003 at Parkway Funeral Home, the Rev. Ken Bush officiating, with Burial in Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Parkway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lane died Tuesday, July 22 at the home of her daughter. She was born Nov. 12, 1915 in Cullman to Charlie and Alice Schultz. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe C. Lane; and her parents.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary B. Warnke of Cullman, Alice M. Rice of Decatur and Bette R. Depreast of Speake; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Gary Lane, Dennis Hoffman, Bradley Lane, Brandon Lane, Tony Mullican and Randy Ford.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
