Minnie Lee Holcomb

Funeral services for Minnie Lee Holcomb, 95, of Blountsville were Monday, Aug. 4, 2003 at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Bobby Stephenson and Edward Engle officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Blountsville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Holcomb died Saturday, Aug. 2 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born in Dekalb County on Jan. 19, 1908 to Isaac Martin and Meda Nora Claburn Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Holcomb; a daughter, Malvarene Chambers; and a grandson, Glen Chambers.

Survivors include a son, James Odean (Gail) Holcomb of Holly Pond; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Verdell Smith of Arab.

Pallbearers were be Howard Chambers, Dwight Chambers, Anthony Chambers, Keith Chambers, Danny Chambers and Josh Standridge.

Visitation was Monday.

Hazel Freeman

Funeral services for Hazel Freeman, 83, of Moody will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003 at Nichols Chapel, Robert Partridge officiating, with Burial in Fairview Cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Freeman died Monday, Aug. 4 at Beverly Health Care.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Sanford of Moody and Betty Johnson of Addison; two sons, Jerry Fortenberry and Frank Fortenberry, both of Addison; two brothers, Hubert Hodge of Cullman and Hulen Hodge of West Palm Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ralph 'Pete' Pigg

Funeral services for Ralph "Pete" Pigg, 88, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 at Nichols Funeral Chapel, with Burial in Sardis Cemetery No. 2.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pigg died Sunday, Aug. 3 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorene Pigg; and a granddaughter, Miranda Pigg.

Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Pigg, Bobbie New and Mary McCormick, all of Cullman; four sons, Shirl Pigg, Cecil "Bo" Pigg, Jimmy Pigg, all of Cullman, and Jackie Pigg of Blount County; a sister, Winnie Rogers of Addison; two brothers, Dallas "Nub" Pigg and Russell "Russ" Pigg, both of Addison; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Burnett H. Hansen

A graveside memorial service for Burnett H. Hansen, 80, of North Carolina is planned.

Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home of Winston-Salem, N.C. is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hansen died Sunday, Aug. 3 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born on April 26, 1923 to Benjamin and Amanda Hansen in Blooming Prairie, Minn. Following graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Navy. His business career included management positions at Hy-Line Poultry Farms in Des Moines, Iowa; Farmers Hatchery and Supply in Evansville, Ind.; Colonial Poultry Farms in Cullman; and Harrell Milling Company in Hartford. He and his wife, Connie Hansen, retired to Winston-Salem in 1997.

He was preceded in death by parents.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Connie Hansen; a son, Dr. Kimberley Hansen of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Glenda Braaten of Owatonna, Minn. and Phyllis Schuttler of Bozeman, Mont.; and two brothers, Harold Hansen of Blooming Prairie, Minn. and Merton Hansen of Johnston, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the B.H. Hansen Scholarship Fund, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Office of Development, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27157-1021. This scholarship fund will provide support for gifted medical students with financial need.

Lucille Mozley

Funeral services for Lucille Mozley, 89, of Holly Pond were Monday, Aug. 4, 2003 at Gober Funeral Chapel, Kenneth Smith officiating, with Burial in Brooklyn Cemetery.

Gober Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mozley died Saturday, Aug. 2 at her residence. She was born July 9, 1914 in Alabama. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by a daughter; and two grandsons.

Survivors include her husband, Amos Q. Mozley of Holly Pond; a daughter, Marthell (James) Densmore of Holly Pond; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Sunday.

Gary Oneal 'Sugarfoot' Hill

Gary Oneal "Sugarfoot" Hill, 62, of Cullman died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003.

Hanceville Funeral Home is notifying.

Mr. Hill was born in Blountsville on July 19, 1941 to James Ralph and Willie Bell Hunt Hill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Harold Henry Hill.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Ann Phillabaum Hill of Cullman; a son, Norman (Leigh) Hill of Heflin; two brothers, Billy James Hill and Major Dean Hill, both of Atlanta, Ga.; and two stepgrandchildren, Sabrina Franklin and Sarah Franklin, both of Heflin.

Robert Hall White

Funeral services for Robert Hall White, 65, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, Mason Harris officiating, with entombment in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. White died Monday, Aug. 4 in Cullman. He was born in Cherry Valley, Ark. on Feb. 11, 1938 to John H. and Dorothy Miller White.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Kristy Lea White.

Survivors include his wife, Betty White of Vinemont; three daughters, Angela (Jeff) Calvert of Bremen, Julie White of Arkadelphia and Kathy White of Cullman; two sisters, Diane Johnson of Houston, Texas and June Knox of Prattville; two brothers, Don White of Killenn, Texas and Jimmy White of Pinson; two granddaughters, Jessica Calvert of Bremen and Valerie Lewis of Arkadelphia; and a special nephew, Jimmy White Jr.

Elsie May Jones

Funeral services for Elsie May Jones, 87, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Dennis Trimble officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jones died Thursday, Aug. 7 at Cullman Long Term Care. She was born April 24, 1916 in Cullman County to John Caro and Mary Ludie Glover Wynn. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Jackson Jones; and three brothers, James C. Wynn, Reyford Wynn and Cephas Wynn.

Survivors include a brother, Coy (Shelby) Wynn of Cullman; two sisters, Audrey Nell (Dewey) Jones and Iva Lee Jones of Cullman; 11 nephews; and 12 nieces.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Mark Johnston

Funeral services for James Mark Johnston, 32, of Blountsville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Susan Moore, Chip Coleman officiating, with Burial in Antioch Cemetery near Blountsville. The body will lie in state an hour prior to the service.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnston died Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair. He was a pipe fitter for The Southeast Company and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He graduated in 1989 from J.B. Pennington High School.

Survivors include his wife, Lori Mills Johnston; daughters, Courtney Johnston, Jessica Johnston; parents, James E. "Buddy" and Diane Hudson Johnston; and a brother, Jacob Miles Johnston, all of Blountsville.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Bobby Eugene McCracken

Funeral services for Bobby Eugene McCracken of Hamilton will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003 at Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel, Curtis Pace officiating, with Burial in Hamilton City Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. McCracken died Thursday, Aug. 7 at his residence. He was born in Marion County to Fonzie Christopher and Myrtle Mona Lindsey McCracken. He was a coach at Wallace State College and coached at Russellville, Double Springs, D.A.R. Grant, Charles Henderson High, Troy, Hamilton, Haleyville and Hanceville. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward "Cotton" McCracken; a sister, Evonn Palmer; and a nephew, Ronnie McCracken.

Survivors include a sister, Faye (Elmo) Palmer of Hamilton; a brother, Donald (Polly) McCracken of Hamilton; and companion, Jewel Anderson of Scottsboro.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Velma Almedia Fincher

Funeral services for Velma Almedia Fincher, 92, of Harrietta, Mich., will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, David McDonald officiating, with Burial in New Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fincher died Thursday, Aug. 7 at her residence. She was born Dec. 10, 1910 in Winston County to Charles and Olivia Hyde Taylor. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Black, Virginia Goodwin and Dorothy Pigg; a son, Kennith Fincher; a sister, Billie Gilman; four half-sisters, Doris Lataous, Shirley Gaspen, Lois Bailey and Mary Ellen Hobbs; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today.

Bobby Lee

Funeral services for Bobby Lee, 60, of Blountsville, are at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2003 at Blountsville Funeral Home Chapel, Paul Tubbs officiating, with Burial in Brown Cemetery near Hendrix.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lee died Friday, Aug. 8 at Decatur General Hospital. He was born in Oneonta to Ruben and Annie Mae Clem Lee. He was retired from Solutia Company. He was a 1961 graduate of J.B. Pennington High School and a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Little Lee of Blountsville; a son, Jeff Lee of Blountsville; two daughters, Renae Lee of Trussville and Joyce Hollingsworth of Blountsville; eight grandchildren; a brother, Allen Lee of Huntsville; and five sisters, Janet King of Remlap, Mary Walden of Arab, Edna Engle of Susan Moore, Frankie Hubbard of Alabama and Becky Lee of Fultondale.

Velma Creel

Funeral services for Velma Creel, 60, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Morris Nunnely officiating, with Burial in Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Creel died Saturday, Aug. 9 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born June 2, 1943 in Morgan County to John Russell and Julia Holcomb Wimbs. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Larry Wayne Cornett.

Survivors include her husband, Philip Creel of Cullman; a daughter, Carol (Mike) Smith of Cullman; a stepdaughter, Sandy (Phillip) Hampton of Cullman; four brothers, Bentley (Mary) Wimbs of Sommerville, Ferrell (Jane) Wimbs of Eva, Travis Wimbs of Cullman and Neville Wimbs of Kansas; five sisters, Margaret (Howard) Bell of Falkville, Thelma Webb of Hartselle, Luda (James) Taylor of Eva, Norine (Kenny) Ray of Moulton and Vivian (Albert) Lynn of Gulf Shores; three grandchildren, Terri Smith, Amanda Smith and Alysha Smith; two stepgrandchildren, Candase Hampton and Cory Hampton; 11 nephews; seven nieces; six great-nephews; and 13 great-nieces.

Visitation was Monday.

Charlotte Knight Hinkle

Funeral services for Charlotte Knight Hinkle, 82, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, the Revs. David McDonald and David Guthrie officiating, with Burial in Valley Springs Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hinkle died Sunday, Aug. 10 at Woodland Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 27, 1920 to Erasmus and Dicie Lowery Knight. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Hinkle; her parents; 11 brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Hinkle of Hartselle, Frank Hinkle of Tuscaloosa and Steve Hinkle of Cullman; and four grandchildren, Logan Hinkle, Patrick Hinkle, Reid Hinkle and Jessica Hinkle.

Pallbearers will be Logan Hinkle, Patrick Hinkle, Reid Hinkle, David Knight, Jimmy Knight, Berl Parker, John Knight and Richard Knight.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
