Troy V. James

Funeral services for Troy V. James, 85, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Larry Brown and Billy James officiating, with Burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James died Sunday, Aug. 31 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born in Cullman County on Oct. 11, 1917 to Malue L. and Cassie Wood James. He was a leadman for the Cullman City Street Department and a member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Jacobs James; one son, Rickey; one brother; and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Roger (Janette) James and Ronald James of Cullman; daughter, Brenda (Gerald) Meeks of Cullman; brother, Woodrow James of Cullman; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren

Visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Grethel Smith Mann

Graveside services for Grethel Smith Mann, 94, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at Ebenezer Cemetery, Bob Kurtz officiating.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mann died Monday, Sept. 1 at Woodland Village Health Care. She was born March 17, 1909 to Ernest and Mary Suggs Smith. She was a post office clerk.

Survivors include two daughters, Ina Jo Pudles of Cullman and Fay Nell Edmondson of Florida; four grandchildren, Deborah (Stanley) Schaffer, Mark Pudles, both of Cullman, Ray (Denise) Edmondson of Birmingham, Barbara De'Lorean of Cleveland, Ohio; and three great-grandchildren, Sadie Elizabeth Pudles, Kim (Chuck) De'Lorean and Scott Edmondson.

No visitation is planned.

Lora Estelle Aderholt

Funeral services for Lora Estelle Aderholt, 88, of Addison were held Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 at Fairview Baptist Church No. 2 with Burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Aderholt died Saturday, Aug. 30 at Walker Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty (Lee) Patterson of Addison, Faye Mathison of Florida, Patsy Aderholt of Haleyville, Magdeline Walker of Ohio; three sons, Jimmy (Carlyn) Aderholt of Florida, Larry Aderholt, Gary Aderholt, both of Addison; sister, Eunice Guthrie of Addison; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Walter Rehling

Funeral services for Walter Rehling, 90, of Henderson, Texas will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at First United Methodist Church, the Revs. Ricky Ricks and Jim Turley officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Cullman City Cemetery.

Crawford-Crim-Bryan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rehling died Saturday, Aug. 30. He was born Nov. 18, 1912 in Cullman where he attended school. He was employed in Anniston until his five and one-half service in the Army during World War II. He received a degree in forestry at Auburn University and accepted a position in Conroe in 1950. He served as Area Forester and Management Specialists in Henderson for 27 years until his retirement. He did continuing education in Louisiana during this time and did consulting work until 1996. Upon his retirement he was honored by the Texas Forest Service and the Chamber of Commerce. He served on drives for United Way, the Henderson Memorial Hospital and Cancer and Heart Funds. He was the first treasurer of the Friends of the Library for several years. He served on the City Zoning Committee for seven years and worked over 35 years as a volunteer for the local Thrift Shop. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served as chairman and vice-chairman of the Official Board, and he continued to serve on the council. He served on the Trustees and Building Committees, the Work Area Missions, the Finance Committee and the Mature Years Committee. He taught Sunday school 50 years, which included the Men's Bible Class, Wesley Men's Class and the Cragg Class.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Katy Ray; nieces, Anna Everette of Winchester, Va., Kathleen Lawson of Brandon, Miss.; nephews, Carl Rehling Jr. of Florida, Bill Tillery of Citrus Springs, Fla.; cousins, Margaret Plunkett of Cullman, Lucile Lueck of Tallahassee, Fla., Edythe Nesmith of Dayton, Ohio, Betty Newman of Montgomery, Ruth Bueter of Florida; goddaughter, Joyce Eidson of Florida; godsons, Roger Lawson of Jackson, Miss., Bruce Tillery of Minneapolis, Minn.; and great-nieces Sharyn Davis of Brookhaven, Miss., Martha Jacobs of Tampa, Fla.

Pallbearers will be Landon Alford, Bob Moore, Mark Mann, Bill Preston, Donald Ross, William R. Black, Dr. John Duran, Mike Moores.

Honorary pallbearers will Billy Preston, Michael Kangerga, Charles Richardson, Reese Strong, Dr. James Mann, Dr. Eugene Morris, Felix Cook Jr., Dr. John Taylor, Dr. Byron Taylor, Dr. Charles Perricone, Dr. Eugene Decker, Dr. Bruce Miles, James Patrick, David Alford, Johnny Walker, Denzil Mobbs, Ralph Stokes Sr., Tommy Strong, Terry Tyson, members of the Texas Forest Service and members of the Cragg Sunday school class.

Gloria Jennette Pope

Funeral services for Gloria Jennette Pope, 54, of Cullman are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home, Jeff Burleson officiating, with Burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pope died Monday, Sept. 1 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 2, 1949 in Etowah County to John and Mildred Speakman Green. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Emma and Adam Pope.

Survivors include her parents; her husband, Olen L. Pope of Cullman; three sons, Kevin (Samantha) Pope of Addison; Randy (Tammy) Pope and Brad (Christy) Pope, both of Baileyton; a daughter, Sheila (Gerald) Corrick of Addison; three brothers, Jerry Green of Decatur, Kenny Green of Eva and Ricky Green of Gold Ridge; and 12 grandchildren; Nichole, Shelina, Wayne, Anthony, Christopher, Zachary, Eric, Riley, Ryan, Blane, Carlee and Libby.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Ruthie Mae Sims

Funeral services for Ruthie Mae Sims, 91, of Hanceville will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, the Rev. Clarence Rice officiating, with Burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sims died Monday, Sept. 1 in Cullman. She was born July 7, 1912 in Cullman County to Adolphus and Mattie Fields Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Sims Sr.; five daughters, Eleanor Fields, Betty Flanigan, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Bertha Flanigan, Mary Flanigan, both of Hanceville and Josephine Robertson of Columbus, Ohio; one son, Earl Sims Jr. of Hanceville; and three special grandchildren, Cassandra Sims of Birmingham, Dennis Sims of Hanceville and Gladys Wilson of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jacob Venable McQueen

Graveside services for Jacob Venable McQueen, 83, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Spet. 5, 2003 at Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McQueen died Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born in Alabama on Jan. 20, 1920 to Charles Alexander and Nancy Venable McQueen. He was an instructor at Wallace State and a military veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy B. McQueen.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Kerry Lane Stephenson

Funeral services for Kerry Lane Stephenson, 58, of Cullman were held Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 at Blountsville Funeral Home Chapel, Bobby Stephenson officiating, with Burial in Green's Chapel Cemetery.

Blountsville Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stephenson died Saturday, Aug. 30 at Woodland Medical Center. He was a member of the Alabama Chapter 2212 VFW Hall of Cullman. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded twice. He recieved two Purple Hearts, one with a cluster, and he also recevied the Bronze Star.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Lezora Morre Stephenson.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Stephenson; son, Jason Stephenson; two step-sons, Jerry McDonald and Wally McDonald; daughter, Paula (Shane) Rush; step-daughter, Caye (William) Caldwell; three brothers, Steve (Gloria Jean) Stephenson, the Rev. Bobby (Katherine) Stephenson, Jerry Wayne (Linda) Stephenson; sister, Bonnie Palmer; two grandsons, Mathew and Garrett Rush; and five step-grandchildren.

Joseph 'Joe' Tubb

Graveside services for Joseph "Joe" Tubb, 17, of Blountsville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at Warrior Creek Cemetery in Cullman County, Brother Moore officiating.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He died Sept. 1 in Blountsville as a result of an automobile accident. He was a student at J.B. Pennington High School and active in the VICA program in the Area Center of Technology with a concentration in auto body shop.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Janice and Bobby Welch of Blountsville; father, William Tubb of Miami, Fla.; three brothers, Charlie, John and Clay Tubb, all of Blountsville; two sisters, Tammy and Diana Tubb of Blountsville; grandparents, Diana Deason of Lipscomb and Claburn Armstrong of Attalla.

Pallbearers will be Blake Adams, Billy Cater, John Tubb, Chad Woodard, Randall Thomason and Chase Hawkins.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lona Hodge

Funeral services for Lona Hodge, 89, of Cullman, are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 at Nichols Chapel in Addison, with Burial in Fairview No. 2 Cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hodge died Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Survivors include her husband, James Burley Hodge of Cullman; two daughters, Frances Dee Fredrick of Arizona and Christine Marbutt of Phil Campbell; two step-daughters, Patricia Case of Cullman and Joanna Freeman of Brushy Pond; two sons, Ronald D. Howard of Arizona and Richard B. Howard of Phil Campbell; two step-sons, Larry Hodge of Logan and J.B. Hodge of Shelton Grove; a sister, Leola; 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Fred Perry Snowden

Funeral services for Fred Perry Snowden, 54, of Pensacola, Fla., are at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003 at Bellview Baptist Church on Saufley Field Road in Pensacola.

Mr. Snowden died Monday, Sept. 1 in Birmingham. He was born Aug. 27, 1949 in Pensacola to Fred Phillip and Ruth Whitehead Snowden. He was a retired master sergeant E-8 from the U.S. Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal. He lived in Cullman the last five years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Joseph, Teddy and Tillis Snowden.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Smith Snowden; a son, Fred Scott (Kimberley) Snowden; two daughters, Rhonda (Kevin) Norsby and Kimberly (Les) Hitchcock; a brother, Richard Snowden; two sisters, Frances Clark and Barbara Holland; former wife, Linda Snowden; and six grandchildren, Ryan, Alexa, Rachel, Brooklyn, Raley and Jacob.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Faith Chapel North.

Nita Curl Martin

Graveside services for Nita Curl Martin, 70, of Vestavia Hills, are at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 at Oak Ridge Cemetery, the Rev. Tom Parrish officiating.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Snowden died Tuesday, Sept. 2 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. She was born to L.E. and Lila Curl. She attended Mountain Chapel Methodist church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John H. Martin and brother, Conrad Curl.

Survivors include her son, John H. Martin III of Fairhope; a daughter, Mary Martin Riser of Daphne; two brothers, Edsel (Dean) Curl of Gadsden and Kedy (Olive Ann) Curl of Jackson, Tenn.; a sister, Wanda L. Curl of Vestavia and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Curl of Huntsville.

Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church or to the Parkinson Disease Association.

Horace Delmus Murray

Funeral services for Horace Delmus Murray, 79, of Crane Hill will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, Troy Cleghorn and Dillon Calvert officiating, with Burial in the adjoning cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Murray died Wednesday, Sept. 3 at UAB Hospital. He was born in Cullman County on June 1, 1924 to Roy C. and Alma Hancock Murray.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vonell Murray; two brothers, Alon and Wilmer Murray; and three sisters, Mavis Junkins, Lexie Calvert and Glenda Nichols.

Survivors include two sons, Darrell (Joanna) Murray and Greg (Teresa) Murray of Cullman; three daughters, Janet (Ed) Sharp, Shelia (Richard) James and Belinda (Marty) Swann, all of Cullman; brother, Rayford Murray of Cullman; two sisters, Collene Johnston of Good Hope, Nancy Ruth Abernathy of Gardendale; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Zorce B. Campbell

Funeral services for Zorce B. Campbell, 85, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Home, the Revs. Donald Abbott and Stanley Owensby officiating, with Burial in New Prospect Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Campbell died Wednesday, Sept. 3 in Cullman. He was born in Blount County on Feb. 3, 1918 to Oscar and Minnie James Campbell. He was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fannie Mae Dean Campbell; and two brothers, James and Vernous Campbell.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy (Donald) Abbot, Deborah (Rickey) Garmon, both of Hanceville, Hilda (J.W.) Wise of Cullman; three sisters, Lojean Hall of Hayden, Carol Melton and Verla Morgan, both of Hanceville; five grandsons, one granddaughter, four great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.
