Marvin Zaydoc Tanksley

Funeral services for Marvin Zaydoc Tanksley, 79, of Falkville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Roger Ammons and Delmer Peebles officiating, with Burial in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tanksley died Thursday, Sept. 4 at his residence. He was born in Lawerence County on March 28, 1924 to Henry Hzdoc and Mollie Higgins Tanksley. He was a member of the Pine Street Baptist Church in Falkville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Zippria Tanksley of Falkville; daughter, Brenda Barnes of Temple, Ga.; three step-sons, Tim Butler, Kenneth Butler, Terry Butler, all of Falkville; four step-daughters, Jean Butler, Nelladine Green, both of Falkville, JoAnn Montgomery of Cullman, Sandra Childers of Eva; two brothers, Frank Tanksley of Temple, Ga., Hershel Tanksley of Kalamazoo, Mich.; five sisters, Mable Smith of Speake, Jewel Armstrong of Moulton, Eva Harvelle of Hatton, Daisy Yeager and Mary Gay, both of Falkville; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Cooper, Clayton Armstroong, Dayton Armstrong, Pat Gay, Ricky Smith, Greg Tanksley, Danny Tanksley.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Patricia Ann Mitchell Simpson

Funeral services for Patricia Ann Mitchell Simpson, 60, of Marietta, Ga., are at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Stanley Dye officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Simpson died Thursday, Sept. 4 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta. She was born Sept. 10, 1942 in Montgomery to Charles B. and Opal Gibson Mitchell. She was a homemaker. She spent many years volunteering with disabled children.

She was preceded in death by her grandparnets, J.W. and Netia Mitchell and Jeter and Julia Gibson.

Survivors include her parents; her husband, Don. T. Simpson of Marietta; two sons, Christopher (Stephanie) Simpson of Marietta and Matthew (Jennifer) Simpson of Murfreesboro; three grandchildren, Bobby Simpson, Emiy Simpson and Corbin Thomas; and two brothers, Brad (Nancy) Mitchell of Hartselle and Kelly (Renea) Mitchell of Cullman.

Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. today.

Harlis Self

Funeral services for Harlis Self, 74, of Bremen, are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 at Addington Chapel Methodist Curch, the Revs. Dan Anderson and Ron Foshee officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Self died Friday, Sept. 5 at his residence. He was born Oct. 6, 1928 in Cullman to W.T. and Verla Key Self.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marcelene Allred; a brother, Herndon Self; and his first wife, Helen McCormick Self.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Swann Self of Bremen; two step-daughters, Sherron (Marc) Miller and Kathy (Gerald) Parker, both of Bremen; two sons, Allen (Lanza) Self of Cullman and Mark (Regina) Self of Bremen; three stepsons, Doyle (Vicki) Swann, Julian (Judy) Swann and Lance (Kathy) Swann, all of Bremen; five sisters, Dorothy Jenkins, Janice Miller, Lanette Moss, all of Clayton, and Norma Self and Daril Spivey, both of Auburndale, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John Luther Mitchell

Funeral services for John Luther Mitchell, 71, of Hanceville, are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Keith Gambill officiating, with Burial in Fairvew West Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mitchell died Friday, Sept. 5 in Birmingham. He was born April 12, 1932 in Anderson, Ind. to George and Winnifred Sanders Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Dupont Mitchell of Hanceville; three daughters, Elizabeth Lynn of Hanceville, Nancy McMahon of Sarasota, Fla. and Melinda Parnes of Chicago; a step-daughter, Kelly McNeeley of Hanceville; a son, Gary Weaver of Hanceville; a sister, Marilyn (Don) Pickett of Adell, Ga.; six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Visitation 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dorothy Jean Gratz

Graveside services for Dorothy Dean Gratz, 72, of Cullman, are at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2003 at Bethsadia Cemetery, Paul Sumerford officiating.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gratz died Thursday, Sept. 4 at her residence. She was born Aug. 7, 1931 in Michigan to Ray H. and Florence I. Bennett Watts. She was a library director.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, David A. Gratz; four daughters, Kathey L. Malone, Holley J. Besier, Tina M. Belliveau and Dee A. Smith; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Wilma Patterson Preiss

Funeral services for Wilma Patterson Preiss, 68, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Preiss died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cullman County on May 13, 1935 to Johnnie Patterson and Lena Marty Patterson Bolte. Mrs. Preiss and her husband were owners of Title Guaranty Company in Cullman for 20 years. She had been an abstractor for almost 30 years. Prior to that, she worked in the Cullman probate office.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two grandchildren, Matthew Preiss and Daniel Preiss.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Preiss; four daughters; Lucinda (Mark) King, Belinsa (Keith) Smith, Brenda (Rick) Brown and Dorenda (Rick) Terry; a son, Frederick (Karen) Preiss; 10 grandchildren, Amber Brown (Landon) Lyle, Zachary Smith, Kaleb Smith, Courtney King, Hilary Preiss, Asha Brown, Zane Smith, Trent Preiss, Erick Preiss and Preiss Terry.; a brother, Kenneth (Skeets) Patterson; and a sister, Doris Watts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hospice of Cullman County or The American Cancer Society.

Visitation is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

Vera Catherine Hudson

Graveside services with full military honors for Vera Catherine Hudson , 63, of Panama City Beach, Fla., are at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 at Cullman City Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hudson died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003 in Panama City Beach Florida. She was born Jan. 24, 1940 in Jackson, Miss., to William Gibbs and Catherine Simms Beatty. She was a nurse and a U.S. Air Force veteran. While in the Air Force, she was a nurse and a captain. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution and the Mayflower Society. She worked with the Humane Society and raised Yorkshire terriers.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie K. McClelland of Panama City.

Rayburn Shaw

Funeral arrangements for Rayburn Shaw, 77, of Holly Pond, are incomplete and will be announced at a later time by the funeral home.

Mr. Shaw died Saturday, Sept. 6 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham.

William Rayburn Shaw

Funeral services for William Rayburn Shaw, 77, of Holly Pond were Monday, Sept. 8, 2003 at First Baptist Church of Holly Pond, the Rev. Horace Hall officiating, with Burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He died Sept. 6 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair. He was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Cullman County, the son of William Elbert and Callie Turner Shaw. He was a farmer. He had retired from the Navy after 23 years. Mr. Shaw was a member of First Baptist Church of Holly Pond.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ted Lance Shaw; two brothers, John Wendell Shaw and Uless B. Shaw; and two sisters, Alma Watts and Audie Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Bates Shaw of Holly Pond; a son, Bruce (Lek) Shaw of Holly Pond; a daughter, Diane Shaw of Holly Pond; a sister, Rosie Henderson of Holly Pond; four grandchildren, Ray and Bryan Echols and Michelle and Bruce Shaw II; and two great-grandchildren, Christian and Dalton Echols.

W.C. Reeves

Funeral services for W.C. Reeves, 82, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at Moss Chapel, the Revs. Mike Owen and Billy Wooten officiating, with Burial in New Hope No. 2 Cemetery. The body wll lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He died Sept. 8 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

He was born June 24, 1921 in Blount County. He was a veteran of World War II and served his country in North Africa and Italy with the 91st Division, 361st Infantry Regiment, M Company. He was a member of New Hope No. 2 Baptist Church and was a retired truck driver and diesel mechanic.

A devoted Christian, he accepted Christ in 1958 and regularly attended the church of his choice. He served his church as deacon for over 30 years.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Fay; his parents, Thomas Joshua Reeves and Lela Amos Reeves; and five brothers, J.B., Junior, Bernie, General and Curtis Reeves.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Naomi Turner Reeves; a son, the Rev. Doug (Judy) Reeves of Tuscaloosa; a daughter, Kathy (Denny) Mobley of Holly Pond; grandchildren, Dewana Reeves (Robert) Fountain, Dina Reeves (John) Eady, Cassie Mobley (Michael) Williams and Dennis (Shea) Mobley Jr.; great-grandchildren, Douglas Eady, Phillip Eady, Chelsea Williams, Lindsey Williams, Olivia Williams and Shelby Williams; brothers, Marlin and Kenneth Reeves and Blly Joe Allen; and a sister, Linda Bailey.

Pallbearers will be Jonn Eady, Douglas Eady, Phillip Eady, Robert Fountain, Dennis Mobley Jr., Michael Williams, Wayne Kelso and Kerry Kelso.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today.

Doris Milby

Funeral services for Doris Milby, 69, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, Jerry Fleming officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Sept. 5 at her home. She was born July 29, 1934, the daughter of Fredrick and Dena Garrison Reichwein. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cullman. Mrs. Milby was in the restaurant supply industry while living in Atlanta for several years. She also served as a kitchen designer for Lowe's in Cullman.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Rhea (Missy) Milby and Robert Mark Milby, both of Cullman; and a daughter, Barbara Milby (Jeff) Dawson of Sacramento, Calif.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.
