Hugh S. Battles

Funeral services for Hugh S. Battles, 75, of Hartselle will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at Peck Funeral Chapel, Phillip Hines and Charles Curtis officiating, with Burial in Herring Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Battles died Thursday, Oct. 2 at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born Aug. 26, 1928 in Morgan County to Gordon Harrison and Clara May Morris Battles. He was a member of Hartselle Church of Christ. He was retired from Mutual Savings Life Insurance as a salesman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War and worked as a decoder in the Pentagon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Doris (Taylor) Battles of Hartselle; a son, Gordon Jackson (Heather) Battles of Hartselle; a sister, Peggy Bowers of Hartselle; and a granddaughter, Bailey McKenzie Battles.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Pansy Joyce Webster

Funeral services for Pansy Joyce Webster, 51, of Decatur will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at Roselawn Chapel, Jerry Hopper officiating, with Burial in Decatur City Cemetery.

Roselawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Webster died Thursday, Oct. 2 at Decatur General Hospital. She was born June 3, 1952. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley "Sam" Carter.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Webster; a son, Jamie Webster; a daughter, Thelma McKinsey Carter; two brothers, Randell Carter and Conley Carter; and three grandchildren, Grayson Webster, Riley Willington and Easton Willington, all of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Carter, Zere Carter, Johnny Smith and Jamie Hooper.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Earlene Marie Stennett

Funeral services for Earlene Marie Stennett, 83, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Gary Miller officiating, with Burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stennett died Thursday, Oct. 2 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 9, 1920 in Tishamingo County, Miss. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Young and Ella Searcy Gable; her husband, Thomas Leslie Stennett; a daughter, Judy Nan Stennett; three brothers, Tulon Gable, Clyne Gable and Carmon Gable; and three infant children.

Survivors include two sons, Earl (Mary) Stennett of Douglasville, Ga. and Bobby Stennett of Cullman; four daughters, Margie (P.H.) James of Dallas, Ga., Alice (Terry) McKenney of Monticello, Fla., Carolyn Hodge of Covington, Ga. and Peggy (James) Barnes of Powder Springs, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Visitation was Friday.

Willodean Mann Coots

Funeral services for Willodean Mann Coots, 77, of Trussville will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 at Ridout's Trussville Chapel, the Rev. Larry Horne officiating, with Burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Coots died Thursday, Oct. 2. She was retired from Medical Center East working in the insurance office for over 15 years. She was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church for over 35 years. She was an avid gardener. She crocheted as a hobby and gave the items as gifts.

Survivors include a son, Ken (Barbara) Coots of Reading, Pa.; a granddaughter, Sunny (Sean) Fox; and a great-granddaughter, Sidney Fox of Columbus, Ohio.

Visitation will be from 3:15 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Charles Bailey Morrow

Funeral services for Charles Bailey Morrow, 77, of Holly Pond are at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 at Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Tony Thomas officiating, with Burial in Simcoe Methodist Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Morrow died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 30, 1925 in Kannapolis, N.C. to Joseph and Bertha Byers Morrow. He was an accountant with Allied Van Lines and H&R Block. He was a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church of Knoxville, Tenn. He was past president of the Sertoma Club in Knoxville, where he was named man of the year in 1985 and 1986. He was also past president of the Knoxville Transportation Club. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater and aboard the USS Timbalier during the Korean War. His favorite pet was his dog Alex.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Gardner Morrow of Holly Pond; three sons, Scott Morrow of Knoxville, Tenn, Jay G. Jenkins of Holly Pond and David (Angie) Mooney of Atlanta; six daughters, Kathryn (Elliott) Roskow of Sarasota, Fla., Margot (Jim) Kline of Knoxville, Tenn., Rose (Tommy) Simpson of Tacoa, Ga., Karen (Philip) Hamrick of Childersburg; Angie (Kevin) Carter of the Simcoe community and Denise Page of Holly Pond; 16 grandchildren and six grandchildren.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Nellie Bell Wisener

Funeral services for Nellie Bell Wisener, 80, of Cullman are unavailable and will be announced at a later date by the funeral home.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wisener died Saturday, Oct. 4.

Merle Haynes

Funeral services for Merle Haynes, 81, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at First Baptist Church of Cullman, the Rev. Ross Clemmons and Dr. Edwin Hayes officiating, with Burial in Concord Baptist Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Haynes died Sunday, Oct. 5 at her residence. She was born March 20, 1922 in Cullman to Roy and Lela Carpenter Jean. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Cullman.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, U.V. "Red" Haynes of Cullman; two daughters, Joyce (Douglas) Witcher and Judy (Terry) Clemmons; a sister, Guin Ussery; five grandchildren, Brian Witcher, Buffy Thomas, Kelly Clemmons, Ross Clemmons and Russ Clemmons; and eight great-grandchildren, Adam Witcher, Andrew Thomas, Jacob Clemmons, Bryley Clemmons, Sara Beth Witcher, Emily Thomas, Chase Clemmons and Anna Kate Clemmons.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Russ Clemmons, Charles Glover, Darrell Haynes, Bill Hill, Dr. James Hoover and Harold Mayo.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Nellie Harper Wisener

Funeral services for Nellie Harper Wisener, 80, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003 at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Warren Ruland and Carl Wisener officiating, with Burial in Duck Creek Baptist Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wisener died Saturday, Oct. 4 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born April 24, 1923 in Cullman County to Albert Pleasant and Laura Belle Gober Harper. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, J.D. Wisener.

Survivors include a son, James Lionel (Mary) Wisener of Carlsbad, Calif.; three daughters, Glenda (Tommy) Myers and Sheila (Ronnie) Scott, both of Cullman, and Patricia (Stan) Carmichael of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a brother, Clyde Harper of Allen, Texas; a sister, Velna Head of Cullman; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Norman 'Paige' Rutledge

Funeral services for Norman "Paige" Rutledge, 62, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at Mountain View Baptist Church, Frank McKenzie and Gary Wadell officiating, with Burial in Bethsadia Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rutledge died Monday, Oct. 6 at his residence. He was born April 26, 1941 in Muncie, Ind. He was a retired truck driver for McGriff Industries.

He was preceded in death by his father, Norman "Bill" Rutledge; and his stepfather, Kenneth Dyer.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Cryer Rutledge of Cullman; his mother, Ada Lorriane Dyer; a son, Bill (Joyce) Rutledge of Cullman; two daughters, Tracy (Steve) Means of Cullman and Nancy (Jerry) Dow of Panama City Beach, Fla.; a brother, Jeff Dyer of California; three sisters, Kandice Cryer of Muncie, Ind., Joyce Bowman of Virginia Beach, Va. and Carolyn Silvey of Cullman; and six grandchildren, Miranda Rutledge, Tyler Rutledge, Megan Rutledge, Alexis Dow, Wesley Dow and Micah Means.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Christy Elaine Lawson

Funeral services for Christy Elaine Lawson, 28, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Home with Burial in Garden City Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Lawson died Monday, Oct. 6 in Cullman. She was born Sept. 26, 1975 in Birmingham.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gary D. Lawson.

Survivors include her mother, Debra Lovell of Cullman; two sisters, Dana Denton, Brittany Key, both of Cullman; brother, Ryan Key of Cullman; grandparents, S.M. and Mary Ruth Lawson of Birmingham; grandmother, Ethel Lovell of Hanceville; nephew Cameron Denton of Cullman; and niece, Candace Denton of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William Artis Cockrell

Funeral services for William Artis Cockrell, 78, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Home, the Rev. Dudley Brock officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cockrell died Sunday, Oct. 5 in Birmingham. He was born in Double Springs on March 4, 1925 to Henry and Inis McCollum Cockrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Jimmie Cockrell of Hanceville; two sons, Johnny Cockrell of Hanceville and Spencer (Gwen) Cockrell of West Point; two daughters, Rose (David) Collum of Hanceville and Vestavia (Rodney) Johnston; a sister, Mavis (Curtis) Stover of Warrior; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bobby Lee Payne

Funeral services for Bobby Lee Payne, 44, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Hobert Thomas officiating, with Burial in Flint Creek Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Payne died Saturday, Oct. 4 at Cullman Health Care Center. He was born June 11, 1959. He was a truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Carl Payne.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Gail Runge Payne of Vinemont; a stepson, Ace McCollins of Vinemont; his mother, Wynell T. Kent Payne of Folsom Center; a brother, Gary G. Payne of Cullman; a granddaughter, Sadie Cofer; a nephew, Clint Payne of Perry, Ga.; and a niece, Kimberly Ann Butler of West Point.

Visitation was Monday.

Alice Rebecca Mayhall

Funeral services for Alice Rebecca Mayhall, 91, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Keith Whitley officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mayhall died Monday, Oct. 6 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 19, 1912 to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Twilley. She was a homemaker and a Christian.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie Mayhall; a daughter, Sandra Flanagan; and two sons, Henry Earl Mayhall and Willie Jackson Mayhall.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Mayhall Sr. of Navarre, Fla. and Norman Mayhall of Cullman; and 16 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Evelyn P. Sickler

Memorial services for Evelyn P. Sickler, 54, of Baileyton will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sickler died Sunday, Oct. 5 in Cullman. She was a cook.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Screws; two sons, George Sickler II of Fort Morgan, Colo. and Michael Sickler of Baileyton; three daughters, Lena Hentschel of Huntsville, Rebecca Sickler of Denver, Colo. and Jamie Pitts of Holly Pond; one brother; five sisters; and 15 grandchildren.

No visitation is planned.
