Noel 'Teni' House Jr.

Funeral services for Noel "Teni" House Jr., 52, of Vinemont will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Keith Whitley officiating, with Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. House died Wednesday, Oct. 8 at his residence. He was born March 10, 1951 in Cullman County to Noel Carlmon and Gretel Morgan House. He was a clerk at Food World and also worked for The Cullman Times for over 20 years as a mail room supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Regenia White House of Vinemont; two sons, Josh (Chrysta) Hunter and Bruce Hunter of Cullman; a brother, Phillip House of Georgia; two sisters, Martha (Les) Robertson and Kathy (Donnie) Smith of Cullman; and two grandsons, Travis and Clayton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County or Victory Baptist Church Mission Fund.

Visitation was Thursday.

Frances Marie Mitchell

Graveside services for Frances Marie Mitchell, 70, of Glidden, Texas will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at East Point Presbyterian Cemetery, Bob Kurtz officiating.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mitchell died Saturday, Oct. 4 at Herman Hospital. She was born Feb. 20, 1933 in Jefferson County to Luther Mason and Pearl Murphree Mitchell. She was a bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, Steven R. (Yon S.) Johnson of Cullman; a daughter, Jenifer Theresa (Richard) Chance of Glidden, Texas; a brother, Cecil Mitchell of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; two sisters, Ann Bowden of Vestavia and Mae Dean Parker of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Susan M. Johnson of Cullman, Christopher Thrift of Columbus, Texas, Tiffany Chance, Misty Chance and Ryan Chance, all of Glidden, Texas.

Visitation was Thursday.

William 'Jesse' Bice

Funeral services for William "Jesse" Bice, 81, of Birmingham will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at Roebuck Chapel, with Burial in Duck River Cemetery.

Roebuck Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bice died Wednesday, Oct. 8. He was a lifelong mason, retired from Hayes Aircraft.

Survivors include two nieces, Ann Phillips and Joyce Boyd; five nephews, David Bice, Roger Stewart, Terry Stewart, Charles Tuggle and Tommy Tuggle; and a sister, Lois King of Hollywood, Fla.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today.

Rev. James 'J.C.' Dunn

Funeral services for the Rev. James "J.C." Dunn, 39, of Nectar will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at High Rock FCM Church, the Revs. Martin Green, Joel Johnson and Jeff Sherrill officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Lemley Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Dunn died Wednesday, Oct. 8 at UAB Hospital. He was born in Alabama. He was called to preach at the age of 14. He pastored numerous churches in Blount, Walker and Franklin counties. He was the current pastor of the Nectar FCM Church. He was the past president of the Union Hill FCM District Conference. He was employed with Russo Corporation.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Baker Dunn of Nectar; a son, Adam Dunn of Nectar; a daughter, Whitney Dunn of Nectar; his parents, Bedford and Patricia Johnson Dunn of Nectar; a sister, Nancy Hogeland of Nectar; two chosen brothers, Michael Hazelrig and Mickey Baba, both of Cleveland; a grandmother, Imogene Johnson of Nectar; and a grandmother-in-law, Vera Love of Hayden.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Best, Glennis Best, Robbie Green, Dennis Brakefield, Mark Posey and Bobby Wayne Terry.

William M. 'Bill' Watkins

Graveside services for William M. "Bill" Watkins, 78, of Blountsville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at Centre Cemetery in Oneonta, Bud Jones officiating.

Blount County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Watkins died Tuesday, Oct. 7 in Jefferson County. He was born in Morgantown, N.C. on April 7, 1925 to Melvin and Mamie Cannon Watkins. He was a retired electrical contractor and a Mason. He served in the Pacific during World War II for two years, rising to the rank of Electrician's Mate Second Class as well as serving as a captain of an Anti-Aircraft Battery. Later, he used his skills as an electrician and self-taught engineer to become a contract manager for several major construction firms, most notably Fischbach and Moore. His job allowed him to work in a wide range of locations as well as making him a witness to a variety of historical events. His places of work included The Atomic Energy Gaseous Diffusion Plant, The Mount Weather Underground Facility, that was intended to be the 'Second Whitehouse' in the event of a nuclear war, converting the CBS studios in New York and Washington D.C. into the color format during the early 60s, during which time he was in the CBS newsroom in New York City the day President Kennedy was assassinated, as well as in The Ed Sullivan Theater the night The Beatles first performed on American television. He was also involved in multiple road projects and the construction of the Birmingham Social Security Building in the 1970s. Later, he relocated to Merritt Island Fla., where he was involved with numerous contracts for the transition from the Apollo program into the Shuttle Program, which included working on the first Orbiter Processing Facility and converting Launch Pad 39B. He was also involved on several jobs connected with Walt Disney World, including working on EPCOT Center and The Living Seas Exhibit. Later in life, he started his own construction firm, which primarily dealt with NASA and subcontract work for Lockheed.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Freeman Watkins of Blountsville; a son, Richard Melvin Watkins of Blountsville; a daughter, Rachel Watkins of Jacksonville; and three brothers, McDowell Watkins of California, Jack Watkins of Kentucky and Herbert Watkins of South Carolina.

Lawrence 'Larry' Joseph Kusner

Memorial services for Lawrence "Larry" Joseph Kusner, 76, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Father Kevin McGrath officiating.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kusner died Tuesday, Oct. 7 at Jackson County Hospital. He was born Nov. 24, 1926. He was a supervisor with G.T.E. Phone Company. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Marine Corps. He completed extensive studies at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and the John C. Calhoun State Tech. College.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Sr. and Mary Diskant Kusner; a brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Agnes Kusner; a sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Frank Skala.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Turk Kusner; two daughters, Maria (Paul) Nail and Francesca (Marcus) Clark; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Turk; five grandchildren, Paul Anthony Nail, Nathan (Crystal) Nail, Shannon Nail, Cory Clark and Colby Clark; a great-granddaughter, Kattie Nail; 10 nieces and nephews; and 15 great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Sacred Heart School (Adopt-A-Student), St. Vincent DePaul Society or a charity of choice.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Loree Junkins Quattlebaum

Funeral services for Loree Junkins Quattlebaum, 83, of Falkville will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Rev. Dennis Trimble officiating, with Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Quattlebaum died Thursday, Oct. 9 at her residence. She was born June 1, 1920 to John and Maudie Ward Junkins. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Glaynus "G.G." Quattlebaum of Falkville; two sons, John (Pat) Quattlebaum of Troy and Harold (Carol) Quattlebaum of Anniston; four grandchildren, Amber Q. Youngblood, Crystal L. Quattlebaum, Forrest S. Quattlebaum and Carla Q. Trull; and three great-grandchildren, Logan and Carson Youngblood and Caleb Trull.

Visitation was Friday.

Claudia A. Hayes

Graveside services for Claudia A. Hayes, 77, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at Bethsadia Cemetery.

Mrs. Hayes died Tuesday, Oct. 7 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Buddy and Lovie Allred; and her husband, Sanford W. Hayes.

Survivors include three sons, Buddy Hayes of Orange County, Calif., Tony W. Hayes of Athens and Timothy Hayes of Arab; three daughters, Betty Smith of Pensacola, Fla., Sandy Cullen of Hanceville and Peggy Adams of Cullman; three sisters, Leola Woodard and Maudie Blackwood, both of Cullman, and Marie Jackson of West Point; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. today.

Helen R. Brannon Barger

Graveside services for Helen R. Brannon Barger, 65, of Hayden will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at Duck River Cemetery, the Rev. Dewey Briscoe officiating.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Barger died Thursday, Oct. 9 in Jefferson County. She was born Jan. 6, 1938 in Jefferson County to Clarence L. and Katherine V. Chamblee Brannon. She was a homemaker, a member of Wilkes Baptist Church and the Order of the Easter Star since the 1960s.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Solomon S. Barger of Hayden; three sons, James V. and Ronald E. Barger, both of Hayden and Daniel C. Barger of Dodge City; and a brother, James W. Brannon of Grand Bay.

Pallbearers will be Roland Pond, Harland Donaldson, Rick Penticost, Charlie Gunter, Wesley Brannon and Morris Bryant.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Deeatte Versie Swann

Funeral services for Deeatte Versie Swann, 89, of Parrish will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003 at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, Wayne Williams and Dewey Williams officiating, with Burial in McKinnley Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Swann died Friday, Oct. 10 at Walker Baptist Medical Center of Jasper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert H. Swann; her parents, John and Lue Godfrey; four sisters, Grace Hurst, Savola Heatherly, Joyce Rhodes and Peggy Owen; and two brothers, Fulton Godfrey and Felton Godfrey.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia K. (James) Wood of Parrish; a son, Hershel Robert (Rita) Swann of Parrish; three brothers, Morton (Jean) Godfrey and Norman (Fay) Godfrey, both of Jasper, and Ernest (Brenda) Godfrey of Arley; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Godfrey, Eric Swann, Greg Tidwell, Tony Wood, Thomas Rhodes, Robbie Swann and Randy Wood.

Kenith Edward Maddox

Funeral services for Kenith Edward Maddox, 69, are at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Mt. Zion Methodist Church, Sherrell Hill officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Maddox died Saturday, Oct. 11 at Princeton Hospital in Birmingham. He was born Sept. 8, 1934 in Cullman County to Hugh Dorsey and Lillian James Maddox. He was retired from Coca-Cola Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Edmondson Maddox; two daughters, Renee (Barry) Luther of Boaz and Carla (Rodney) Thrash of Vinemont; a son, Mitchell ( Sonia) Maddox of Vinemont; a sister, Janice (Jerry) Golden of Cullman; a grandson, Jeremia Maddox; four granddaughters, Alexis Maddox, Andrea Maddox, Danielle Luther and Adrienanne Maddox; and a great-grandson, Ashton Lewis.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Polly Cleghorn

Mrs. Cleghorn died Saturday, Oct. 11 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born June 26, 1915 in Randolph County to James T. and Sarah McEnvale Woodard. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Finis Cleghorn; a son, James Delmer Cleghorn; seven brothers, Madison, Tommy, Arnton, Charlie, Dewey, Troy and T.B. Woodard; two sisters, Jimmie Moore and Lodie Adair; and a great-granddaughter, Christy Santos.

Survivors include her son, Bobby (Bobbie) Cleghorn; daughter, Olivia Cleghorn (Boyd) Carter of Birmingham; a daughter-in-law, Bernadean Cleghorn of Gadsden; a sister, Ruby Lindley of Arley; eight grandchildren, Janice Cleghorn Santos, Kathy Cleghorn West, Terry (Judy) Cleghorn, Debbie Cleghorn Klein, Lisa Cleghorn (Ricky) Bates, Jeff Carter, Judy Carter (Joel) Campbell and Jennifer Carter Bridwell; 10 great-grandchildren, Savanna Santos, Michael West, Tera Cabri, Ashley Bullard, Morgan Griffin, Justin Bates, Karah Bates, Jake Campbell, Jessica Campbell and Erica Bridwell; and two great-great-grandchildren, Alica and Nichole West.

Vonda Lee Grimmett

Funeral services for Vonda Lee Grimmett, 86, of Cullman are at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Kinney Grove Baptist Church, the Revs. Wayne Williams, Dillon Calvert and Dan Anderson officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Eskell Grimmett; and her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Elwin (Linda) Grimmett of Cullman; Edward Gremmitt of Bremen; a brother, Durehl Grimmett of Sylacauga; three sisters, Helen Dahlke of Smyrna, Ga., Elene Addison of Bremen and Jenelle Sullivan of Gadsden; three grandsons, Sidney Grimmett, Bryan Grimmett and Jason Grimmett, all of Cullman; and three granddaughters, Angla Mller of Logan, West Va., Tina Lindsey of Vinemont and Cindy Grimmitt McCollum of Cullman.

Visitation is 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
