Ruth A. Stewart Nabors

Funeral services for Ruth A. Stewart Nabors, 81, of Montgomery will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003 at Brookside Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Ron Davis officiating, with Burial in Coosa River Cemetery.

Brookside Funeral Home of Millbrook is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nabors died Monday, Oct. 20. She was born March 5, 1922 in Cullman to Dee and Addie Johnson Stewart.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Raymond C. Nabors Sr.; infant daughter, Mary Ann Nabors; four brothers, Troy, Elzie, Clyde and Melvin Stewart.

Survivors include a son, Raymond C. Nabors Jr. of Deatsville; two daughters, Virginia A. Smith and Ruth A. Foshee, both of Montgomery; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Truman (Oleda) Stewart of Cullman; and friends, Carolyn (Billy) Berry and Carol Clark, both of Montgomery, and Michael (Susan) Lindsey of Columbus, Ga.

Visitation will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Alfred Earl Ozier

Funeral services for Alfred Earl Ozier, 70, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Keith Gambill officiating, with Burial in Garden City Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ozier died Tuesday, Oct. 21 in Birmingham. He was born in Birmingham on March 29, 1933 to James and Eula Curry Ozier.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Margaret Miller.

Survivors include his wife, Luella Durfee Ozier of Hanceville; two daughters, Jennifer Ozier of Garden City and Joan (Randy) Smith of LaGrange, Ga.; two sons, John (Denise) Ozier of Garden City and Mike Ozier of River Bend; four sisters, Dorothy Eddins of Birmingham, Mildren Hamerka of Raleigh, N.C., Jimmie Justice of Oak Hill, Fla. and Mary Alice McIntyre of Oakridge, Tenn.; a brother, Clarence Ozier of Tuscaloosa; and six grandchildren, Justin Ozier, Heather Smith, Beth Ozier, Brittany Ozier, Chase Smith and Zachary Smith.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Flora I. Vandiver

Graveside services for Flora I. Vandiver, 74, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003 at Cullman City Cemetery, Larry Nail officiating.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Vandiver died Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Woodland Village. She was born June 24, 1929 in Birmingham to Carl and Bertha Garrett Anderson. She was a retired bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, W.W. Vandiver.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa (Butch) Jones of Cullman; two granddaughters, Tesha Sims and Lori Melson; a grandson, Drew Sims; seven nieces; three nephews; and a sister-in-law, Adella Nail.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Eddie Lee Wren

Funeral services for Eddie Lee Wren, 54, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Michael Parker and Kenny Wren officiating, with Burial in Emeus Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wren died Tuesday, Oct. 21. He was born Dec. 17, 1948 in Cullman County to Furman Eddie and Ida Lorene Simmons Wren. He was a machine operator for Loparex.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Jones Wren of Cullman; a son, Michael (Elaine) Wren of Cullman; a daughter, Renda (Bart) Crabtree of Cullman; three brothers, Billy (Mable) Wren, Bobby (Betty) Wren of Birmingham and Sammy Wren of Cullman; two sisters, June Still of Huntsville and Janice (Robert) Bates; and four grandchildren, Erica and Blake Crabtree and Dalton and Madison Wren.

Visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Irene Hughes Abt

Memorial services for Irene Hughes Abt, 80, of Northport will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Warren Ruland officiating.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Abt died Wednesday, Oct. 22. She was born Feb. 8, 1923 in Northport to Burrell B. and Irene H. Hughes. She was an artist and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Walter C. Hughes and the Rev. Burrell B. Hughes Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Fred W. Abt of Cullman; a daughter, Jeanne A. (Tommy) Mackey of East Lawrence; two sons, William C. "Billy" Abt and James F. "Jim" Abt, both of Cullman; two sisters, Grace D. Case of Tuscaloosa and Martha (Cecil) Jackson of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Duffy (Heather) Bunis, Jamie Bunis, Robbie Abt and Katie Abt; and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth B. Hughes and Janet B. Hughes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Cullman County Association of Retarded Children, Margaret Jean Jones Center or St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Wilma Hampton Pearce

Funeral services for Wilma Hampton Pearce, 95, of Danville will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at Valley Grove Baptist Church in the Speake community, the Rev. Wayne Turner officiating, with Burial in the Speake family cemetery.

Elliott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pearce died Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Jan. 12, 1908 in the Speake community to Samuel Lyons and Sarah Elizabeth Speake Hampton. She taught school for many years, retiring from the Headstart program in Cullman County. She was a homemaker, gardener, mother and church member.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Pearce; her parents; and a brother, Cecil Hampton.

Survivors include a son, Allen (Donna) Pearce of Danville; two daughters, Sarah (Gary) Lark and Martha Pearce, both of Panama City Beach, Fla.; a sister, Marie Hampton Vest of Speake; two grandchildren, Anthony (Rachel) Pearce and Rebecca Pearce; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Pearce and Zachery Pearce.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Valley Grove Baptist Church building fund.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Breeding, Willard Cole, Edward Kelsoe, Joel McCay, Carl Speake and Ken Wilson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eugene C. Stieffel

Funeral services for Eugene C. Stieffel, 80, of New Orleans, La. will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Metairie, La., with Burial in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.

Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stieffel died Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Metropolitan Hospice in New Orleans. He was retired from the New Orleans Times Picayne. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 82nd Army-Airborne Division. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 6640, the M.O.C. Puptent No. 5, the American Legion No. 175, the AARP No. 725, the Diamond Club, the Knights of Columbus No. 8546, and the Holy Name Society and Bon Temps Club at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonie George and Eugene G. Stieffel.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hebert Stieffel; four children, Marilyn C. Tamberella of Kenner, La., Ronald L. Clesi of Little Rock, Ark., Patricia C. Parra of Dallas, Texas and Wayne R. Clesi of Alabaster; five siblings, Calvin G. Stieffel of Cullman, Raymond H. Stieffel of Metairie, La., William A. Stieffel of Slidell, La., Beverly S. Babin and Patricia M. Stieffel, both of Madisonville, La.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 10 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Othel Graham

Funeral arrangements for Othel Graham of Falkville are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Mr. Graham died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003.

Irene Hughes Abt

Memorial services for Irene Hughes Abt, 80, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Warren Ruland officiating.

Arlis 'Sarge' Aaron

Funeral services for Arlis "Sarge" Aaron, 84, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Donald Abbott and John McCoy officiating, with Burial in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Aaron died Wednesday, Oct. 22 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 20, 1919 in Cullman County to Samual J. and Cynthia Harding Aaron. He was the superintendent for H.E. Drummand Coal Company. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Velma "Bell" Aaron and Oliver Aaron; and a sister, Melba Stricklin.

Survivors include his wife, Norene Rhodes Aaron of Cullman; two sons, James O. (Brenda) Aaron of Haleyville and Sidney H. (Marnice) Aaron of Cullman; five daughters, Irene (Clyde) Shelton, Carol (Donnie) Teichmiller, Evelene (Ronald) Bobo, Kathy (Kelley) Milligan and Jean (Ricky) Baker, all of Cullman; three brothers, Omera (Lesta) Aaron of Indiana, William "Bill" Aaron and George E. "Dock" (Vonnie) Aaron, both of Cullman; a sister, Ethel Rhodes; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lonnie P. Wilson Jr.

Funeral services for Lonnie P. Wilson Jr., 75, of Avon, Conn., formerly of Cullman, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, with Burial in Flint Creek Cemetery in Vinemont.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wilson died Tuesday, Oct. 21 in Hartford, Conn. He was born July 9, 1928 in Cullman to Lonnie Sr. and Myrtle Foshee Wilson. He served in the Army National Guard of Alabama from 1948 to 1952 when he was discharged a private first class. He and his wife, Esther, were married on Sept. 1, 1954. He was employed as a veterinarian's assistant to Dr. Farr, a groundskeeper at St. Bernard College and later retired from Garrison Trucking Company. He moved to Avon, Conn. in March 2002. He enjoyed fishing, collecting baseball cards and being outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.

Survivors include five children, Edith Faulk, Phillip Wilson, Kevin Wilson and Ken Wilson, all of Cullman, and Lee Wilson of Avon, Conn.; a brother; three sisters; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elouise Morgan Cantrell

Funeral services for Elouise Morgan Cantrell, 79, of Addison were Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at Spring Hill Baptist Church, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cantrell died Saturday, Oct. 18 at Woodland Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James P. and Ola S. Morgan.

Survivors include four daughters, Doris M. Powers of Ten Mile, Tenn., Catherine D. Maze of Millano, Texas, Sharon L. Couch of Nashville, Ark. and Sandra R. Simons of Craigville, Ind.; a son, Terry L. Swafford of Jakarta, Indonesia; two sisters, Alidean Morgan and Joyce Ann Thompson, both of Decatur; three brothers, Billy Morgan of Addison, Jimmy Morgan and Donald Morgan, both of Heflin; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Kinney Lee Sutton

Funeral services for Kinney Lee Sutton, 80, of Gadsden will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at Duck River Baptist Church, Sherman Bailey officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sutton died Wednesday, Oct. 22 at his residence. He was born July 23, 1923 in Cullman to Carl and Susie Sutton. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He received the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Unit Commendation for combat actions in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Mildred Elizabeth Howse of Cullman in 1955, and they moved to the Detroit area where he worked as a tool and dye maker. In 1978, they retired and moved back to Alabama, settling in Gadsden. In retirement, Mr. Sutton loved sports and music, and visiting with relatives, particularly his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and seven siblings, Troy Sutton, Maybelle Sutton Amos, Winford "Wint" Sutton, Alford "Pat" Sutton, Inez Sutton Reese, Floy Sutton and Arlee Sutton.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Patricia (Marvin) Lloyd of Vinton, Va., Linda (Wayne) Till of Petaluma, Calif. and Sharon Joan Cosper of Gadsden; five grandchildren, Todd (Lois) and Mark (Denise) Lloyd of Roanoke, Va., Jenny (Kelvin) Nunn of Huntsville, Sally Till of New York and Vallie Boike of Gadsden; and six great-grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua and Caleb Nunn, and Noah, Bethany and Aaron Lloyd.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 807 Maine Ave. SW, Washington, DC 20024 or to a charity of choice.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
