Doris May Pollard

Funeral services for Doris May Pollard, 78, of Vinemont will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Wayne Nails officiating, with Burial in Union Hill Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pollard died Thursday, Oct. 30 at her residence. She was born Sept. 1, 1925 in Cullman County to C.L. and Tillie May Hale. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard Noel Pollard; a brother, Hershel Hale; and two sisters, Charolotte Hale and Shirley Hale.

Survivors include two sons, Norman Pollard of Vinemont and Gary Pollard of Falkville; a daughter, Varue Mabry of Vinemont; a brother, Drennan Hale of Falkville; three grandchildren, Kanitha (Trinidy) Wilson of Falkville, Randall Pollard and Stacy Pollard of Vinemont; and two grandchildren, Emily Nicole Wilson and Tristen Lee Wilson.

Visitation was Friday.

B.L. 'Dick' Young

Funeral services for B.L. "Dick" Young, 80, of Eva will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Danny Vinson and Dr. Dennis Haynes officiating, with Burial in Burningtree Cemetery in Decatur.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Young died Wednesday, Oct. 29 in Atlanta, Ga. He was born Dec. 31, 1922 to Edgar and Lizzie Wright Young. He was a retired computer programmer and farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Odell H. Young, and his parents.

Survivors include a son, Larry (Debbie) Young; a daughter, Nancy (Mike) Satterfield; two sisters, Elizabeth Barrett and Marie Raley; four grandchildren, Jason Satterfield, Jason Schilberg, Angel Schilberg and Cody Young; and a great-grandchild, Meghan Satterfield.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

Kathlene 'Kathy' Smith

Funeral services for Kathlene "Kathy" Smith, 54, are at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith died Friday, Oct. 31 at UAB Hospital. She was born March 13, 1949 in Hackensack, N.J. to Gary and Frances Smith VanTassel. She was a homemaker and the former owner of Fun Tours.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Wayne Smith; her parents; three sons, D.J. (Lori) Smith, Scott Smith and Chad Smith; a daughter Anna (Nathan) Holcomb; a sister, Roxanne Drucker; four grandchildren, Sydni Smith, Landon Smith, Jesse Smith and Alexa Smith; and a niece, Michelle Drucker.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. today.

Shirley E. Wells

Memorial services for Shirley E. Wells, 82, of Cullman will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 3003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wells died Thursday, Oct. 30 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born July 23, 1921 in Washington D.C. to Raymond V. and Marietta Boothby Burgess. She was a secretary and a member of the Elk's Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Daniel P. Wells Jr.

Survivors include four sons, Daniel Peyton III (Martha) Wells and Glenn R. Wells, both of Florida, Fred K. Wells of Panama City, Fla. and Gary (Martha) Wells of Cullman; a brother, Raymond V. (Sylvia) Burgess Jr. of Louisiana; and two grandchildren, Emily E. Wells and Bridget A. Wells.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (Lewy Body Disease), 1501 Northwest 9th Ave./Bob Hope Road, Miami, Fla. 33136.

Visitation will be at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wynell Hooper Chambers

Funeral services for Wynell Hooper Chambers, 75, of Holly Pond, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2003 at Redan Baptist Church, the Revs. David Chambers, Layne Howard, Tim Pinkard, Zacharee Howard and DeJaun Reese, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Vernie Haynes Hooper; her husband, L.D. Chambers; five brothers, Alfred, Tillman, Junior, Quinton and Winton Hooper; and two sisters, Naomi Hooper and Dorothy Dunn.

Survivors include two sons, Andrew (Delby) Chambers of Holly Pond; David (Renee) Chambers of Fairview; three daughters, Helen (Gordon) Smith of Holly Pond, Bobbie (Tim) Pinkard of Fairview and Kathy (Layne) Howard of Holly Pond; three sisters, Avilar Denny, Evyleaner King and Martha Smith; a brother, Alvin Hooper; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alacare Home Health and Hospice of 310 Graham St. S.W., Cullman, Ala., 35055.

Pallbearers will be Andy Chambers, Josh Pinkard, Chad Wright, Jeremy Howard, Eli Howard and Tony Morton. Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Chambers, Isaac Howard, Cheston Morton, Micah Chambers and Caleb Chambers.

Visitation is at 4 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Monday.

Evelena Duke Thomas

Funeral services for Evelena Duke Thomas, 83, of Holly Pond are at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2003 at Pleasant View Baptist Church, the Rev. Randy Burtram and Guy Hunt officiating, with Burial in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thomas died Saturday, Nov. 1 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born March 17, 1920 to Jim and Alma Howard Duke. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Survivors include four sons, Curtis (Earlene) Thomas, Cecil (Jenny) Thomas, Carl (Ginger) Thomas and Jerry (Jearl) Thomas, all of Holly Pond; two daughters, Frances (Bob) Cochran of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Betty (Miles) Kelley of Cullman; a brother, Dalton (Mavis) Duke of Kimberly; a sister, Betty McClendon of Arab; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Lester Skinner

Lester Skinner of Cullman died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Williams-McCracken Funeral Home.

Lester Leo 'L.L.' Skinner

Funeral services for Lester Leo "L.L." Skinner, 81, of Cullman were Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Revs. Vernon Willis, Daniel Tidwell and Floyal Rodgers Jr. officiating, with Burial in Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Skinner died Saturday, Nov. 1, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Cullman to Wesley Samuel and Lella Jester Skinner. He was a self-employed carpenter and painter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Thurman Freeman Skinner, Nelson Charlie Skinner, Chester Cleo "C.C." Skinner, Garvis Arlin "G.A." Skinner and Troy Thurman Skinner; and four sisters, Lizzie Rodgers, Maglene Simmons, Dorothy Ransom and Ada Wood.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Joe (Cathy) Skinner and Thomas Edward "Tom" (Deane) Skinner; a daughter, Margaret Ann Bell; two brothers, Burvil "B.W." Skinner and Bueron M. "B.M." (Betty) Skinner; a sister, Beatrice Skinner (Oran) Graves; a sister-in-law, Movalene Brock Skinner; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Sunday.

Arah Johnnie Denney

Funeral services for Arah Johnnie Denney, 91, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at Welcome Baptist Church, Jim Hampton and Doug Pitts officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Denney died Saturday, Nov. 1, at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Jan. 18, 1912, in Cullman to John Perry and Vianna Argentine Hare Waldrep. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elbert I. Denney; two sisters, Eva Bradford and Avonelle Hardin; and a nephew, James L. Whitworth Jr.

Survivors include a brother, Hurshel F. (Jean) Waldrep of Cullman; three nieces, Paula (Dan) Henry and Elayne (Ron) Ivey, both of Cullman, and Theresa Waldrop (Marcus) Kabel of Vienna, Austria; five nephews, Don (Diane) Waldrop of Tuscaloosa, Perry (Regina) Waldrep of Clearwater, Fla., Herbert (Donna) Whitworth of New Paris, Penn., Joseph (Amanda) Hardin of New Hope and Glen Whitworth; a brother-in-law, Robert Bradford of Huntsville; 13 great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, the Shrum family.

Visitation will be from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. today.

Imogene Henry Patterson

Funeral services for Imogene Henry Patterson, 70, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Rev. Steve Rogers officiating, with Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Patterson died Saturday, Nov. 1, at Princston. She was born Feb. 1, 1933, in Cullman to Wiley and Vastie Snow Henry. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard F. Patterson; a son, Billy Patterson; a sister, Pauline Smith; and three brothers, Melvin Henry, Millard Henry and Hollis Henry.

Survivors include two sons, Freddie (Dodie) Patterson and Ray (Phyllis) Patterson; a daughter, Linda (Walter) Patterson of Seay; a brother, Bobby Henry; two sisters, Katherine Yeager and Margie Goodwin; six grandchildren, Chris (Ginny) Patterson, Chad Patterson, Cindy Patterson, Jennifer Patterson, Brad (Michelle) Patterson and Brian Patterson; and four great-grandchildren, Blake Patterson, Ty Patterson, Tylor Finley and Alex Patterson.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hobert A. Dye Jr.

Funeral services for Hobert A. Dye Jr., 38, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Vernon Willis officiating, with Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dye died Monday, Nov. 3, at his residence. He was born Jan. 1, 1965, in Cullman County. He was a supervisor at Americold.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hobert A. Dye Sr.

Survivors include his mother, Nellie Ruth Dye of Cullman; two sisters, Carolyn (Daniel) Fincher of Huntsville and Vanessa (Tim) Willis of Cullman; two nieces, Michele (Jason) Heaton and Danielle Fincher; and two nephews, Robert Willis and William Billy Fincher.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Challie Lois Guthrie

Funeral services for Challie Lois Guthrie, 67, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Vernon Willis and Joyce Tyson officiating, with Burial in Emeus Cemetery.

Mrs. Guthrie died Sunday, Nov. 2, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 31, 1936, in Cullman County. She was a licensed practical nurse for the Crippled Children's Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur J. and Vada Reed Guthrie; her sister, Loney V. Schmale; and her brother, Lelton Guthrie.

Survivors include best friend, Mary Joann Higgins; a sister, Myrtle Williams of Hamilton; three nephews, Larry Guthrie, Rickie Schmale and Craig Schmale; a niece, Sherry Guthrie; four great-nephews, Jeremy, Daniel, Kevin and Wade; three great-nieces, Michelle, Holly and Felicia; and four great-nieces and nephews, Ansley, Caleb, Jacob and Jesse.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Vernice Miller Cheatham

Funeral services for Vernice Miller Cheatham, 94, of Holly Pond will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at Holly Pond Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Wendell Peterson officiating, with Burial in Corinth West Cemetery.

Mrs. Cheatham died Sunday, Nov. 2, at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born Feb. 28, 1909, in Morgan County to Brice and Brisco Dial Miller. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Les Cheatham; and three grandchildren.

Survivors include five sons, Max (Jo Ann) Cheatham of Yaleville, Ark., Joe Neil (Lennes) Cheatham of Berlin, Clyde (Ann) Cheatham, Glenn (Irene) Cheatham and Lynn (Paula) Cheatham, all of Holly Pond; and four daughters, Marjorie (R.V.) Poole of Sidney, Ohio; Lila (Joe) Edwards of Holly Pond, Dixie (James) Hays of Walter and Sue (Edward) Easterling of Brooklyn.

Visitation was Monday.

Hulet Gilley

Funeral services for Hulet Gilley, 87, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Revs. Marvin Brock and Gary Waddell officiating, with Burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Mr. Gilley died Sunday, Nov. 2, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born June 15, 1916, to John Lee and Elnor Burgess Gilley. He was a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Hobert Gilley; and three sisters, Etha Wood, Audie Bell Peak and Olene Tennyson.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel Armstrong Gilley of Cullman; a son, Tommy Gilley of Cullman; a sister, Imogene Barnett of Hampton, Ga.; seven nephews; and eight nieces.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
