James Dwight Caldwell

Funeral services for James Dwight Caldwell, 52, are at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2003 at First Baptist Church of West Point, Ben McKenzie and Jim McKlurkan officiating, with Burial in Central Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Caldwell died Friday, Nov. 7 at his residence. He was born April 7, 1951 in Cullman County.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Luther Caldwell; and his brother, Randy Caldwell.

Survivors include his mother, Hazel Quick Caldwell; a brother, Tim (LaQuitta) Caldwell of Cullman; a sister, Donna Wells; four nephews; three nieces; and a great-nephew.

Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carrie Dillashaw Smith

Graveside services for Carrie Dillashaw Smith, 88, of Decatur, formerly of Hanceville, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Garden City Cemetery, the Rev. Andy Johnson officiating.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith died Monday, Nov. 10, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cullman County on July 14, 1915, to Joe Davis and Dochie Hudson. She was a licensed practical nurse at Baptist Medical Center in Princeton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, Ronald (Ellen) Dillashaw of Hanceville; daughter, Betty (Ralph) Sharp of Decatur; a sister, Florence Gamble of Cullman; two brothers, Bill Hudson of Florida and Paul Hudson of Cullman; two grandsons, Taft (Brenda) Dillashaw of Good Hope and Todd (Angie) Dillashaw of Hamilton; a special grandchild, Libby Lovelace of Auburn; granddaughter, Leanne Sharp (Steven) Presley of Birmingham; and five great-grandchildren, Jake, Hannah Claire, Jackson, Ben and Annabeth.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Baptist Children's Home of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Jake Dillashaw, Taft Dillashaw, Todd Dillashaw, Maxie Hudson, Robert C. McAnnally and Stephen Presley

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Steven Marlan Henry

Funeral services for Steven Marlan Henry, 45, of Cullman, are incomplete and will be announced by Moss-Service Funeral Home.

Mr. Henry died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003 at his residence. He was born April 20, 1958.

Martha Viola Kimbril

Funeral services for Martha Viola Kimbril, 86, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Etha Baptist Church, Gary Miller and Danny Buchanan officiating, with Burial in Etha Cemetery. The body will lie in state an hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kimbril died Sunday, Nov. 9, at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Jan. 6, 1917, in Randolph County, to Thomas Austin and Elsie Jane Hill. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Wilson Kimbril; daughter, Melba Jean Wilson; and great-grandson, Austin Gage Burgess.

Survivors include three daughters, Lisa (Bobby) Henley, Janey (Bill) Buchanan and Gaynell Bailey, all of Cullman; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

C.C. 'Billy' Mosteller

Funeral services for C.C. "Billy" Mosteller, 74, of Eva will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Eva Baptist Church, the Rev. Daniel Mosteller officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery. The body will lie in state an hour prior to the service.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mosteller died Sunday, Nov. 9, at his residence. He was born in Morgan County on Sept. 2, 1929, to C.C. "Lum" and Estora Mosteller. He was a member of Eva Baptist Church and Lions Club, a Mason and a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his his parents; one son, Donald Lee Mosteller; one granddaughter, Julie Diane Mosteller; four brothers, Duane Mosteller, Clyde Mosteller, Burt Mosteller and Bruce Mosteller; and two sisters, Mattie Lou Keeton and Ruby Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Nora Imogene Mosteller of Eva; three sons, James (Kay) Mosteller of Hartselle, Leon Mosteller of Eva, and Daniel (Janette) Mosteller of Magnolia, Ariz.; daughter, Patricia Mosteller (Steve) Jeffreys of New Market; sister, Elzie Collier of Tallahassee, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Mosteller, Jonathan Mosteller, Jarrod Mosteller, Luke Mosteller, Tyler Mosteller, David Jeffreys and Michael Jeffreys.

Visitation was Monday.

Ira C. 'Tom' Penwell

Funeral services for Ira C. "Tom" Penwell, 92, of Falkville will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church, the Revs. Robert Morgan and Gary Miller officiating, with Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Penwell died Sunday, Nov. 9, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Morgan County on May 25, 1911, to John Berton and Mary Sig Eady Penwell.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Vergie Brown Penwell; daughter, Betty Moveline King; son, Don Penwell; and six grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Virgie Chaney Penwell of Falkville; son, Roy Biffel (Mary Nelle) Penwell of Lebanon, Ohio; four daughters, Linda (Jerry) Holmes and Pat (Leroy) Phillips, both of Akron, Ohio; Betty Sue Penwell and Steve Sandlin of Falkville; and Gretchen (Jim) Moore of Hartselle; four stepsons, Hal (Blanche) Chaney of Hartselle, Steve (Denise) Chaney of Lacon, John (Janice) Chaney of West Point and Bob (Wanda) Chaney of Cole Springs; stepdaughter, Judy (Jeff) Siles of Eva; 17 grandchildren; 22 stepgrandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bob Chaney, Hal Chaney, Mike Lloyd, Jerry Homes, Buck Anders and Tommy Barnett.

Visitation was Monday.

Tempie EddieLee Keeton

Graveside services for Tempie EddieLee Keeton, 62, of Warrior will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Flat Rock Methodist Cemetery in Crane Hill, the Rev. Al Jerkins officiating.

New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Keeton died Sunday, Nov. 9, at her residence. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Robby R. Keeton Sr.; daughter, Regenia (Richard) Brown of Adamsville; three sons, Robby R. Keeton Jr. of Mt. Olive, Richard A. (Joan) Keeton of Dora, Rickey J. (Retonda) Keeton of Corner; brother, William "Whitey" Williamson of Crane Hill; seven grandchildren; half-brother, Arthur Kenerley of Blount County; and half-sister, Martha Barber of Decatur.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Patricia Lovelady Hurlburt

Memorial services for Patricia Lovelady Hurlburt, 68, of Cullman were held Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at First Presbyterian Church in Cullman.

She died Friday, Nov. 7, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. Her body was donated to science. She was born in Cullman on Nov. 24, 1934, to J.P. and Rita Huffstutler Lovelady.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert K. Lovelady.

Survivors include her husband, Willard Hurlburt of Cullman; two daughters, Kenneith Payne and Robyn (Tommy) Tucker, both of Cullman; two sisters, Joyce (Charles) Tucker of Athens and Shirley Tucker of Florida; a sister-in-law, Martha Lovelady of Tennessee; five grandchildren, Nicky (Heather) Payne, T.J. (Jamie) Tucker, Ashley Tucker, Jamie Ehlman, Whitney Tucker; and four great-grandchildren, Chloe Ehlman, Jackson Tucker, Andrew Tucker and Sean Payne.

Maudie Bernice Swindle

Funeral services for Maudie Bernice Swindle, 77, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, Glenn Posey officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Swindle died Monday, Nov. 10, at Woodland Medical Center. She was born July 19, 1926, in Oakman to Jessie and Maudie Grooms Schultz. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Eric Ray Swindle; three sisters, Fannie Woods, Lillian Patton and Dolly Little; and three brothers, Walter Schultz, Albert Schultz and Jess Schultz.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred C. Swindle; daughter, Donna Shon; son, Jerry Swindle; three sisters, Estell Patton, Louise Hines and Nell Corry; brother, Paul Schultz; two grandchildren, Jennifer Garcia and Jamin Bates; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Annie Faye Walker

Funeral services for Annie Faye Walker, 71, of Baileyton, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. David Bailey officiating, with Burial in Baileyton Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walker died Monday, Nov. 10, at her residence. She was born Aug. 28, 1932, to George Sr. and Lois Henry Holcombe. She co-owned a grocery store in Baileyton and formerly was active in the Baileyton Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Hayes W. Walker Jr. and Billy Don Walker; brother, George I. Holcombe Jr.; and sister, Melba Reid.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Hayes W. "Button" Walker of Baileyton; daughter, Susan Annette (David) Bates of Baileyton; three brothers, Darrel (Gwen) Holcombe of Cullman, James M. "Jim" Holcombe of Baileyton and Wayne (Phyllis) Holcombe of Brushy Pond; two sisters, Charlotte Torbert of Cold Springs and Jane (Don) Bates of Cullman; five grandchildren, Brent Bates, Brody Bates, Brashell Bates, Bridgette (Jason) Chandler and Thor Walker; and two great-grandchildren, Jake Chandler and Cort Chandler.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Ruth Novaline Wright

Funeral services for Ruth Novaline Wright, 78, of Blountsville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Blountsville Funeral Home Chapel, Gary Freeman and Ernie Garnett officiating, with Burial in Antioch Cemetery near Blountsville. The body will lie in state two hours prior to the funeral.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wright died Monday, Nov. 10, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Blount County to Fred A. and Katie Latham Mardis. She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Bill Martin, her second husband, G.L. "Wayne" Wright, her parents, one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy D. (Donna) Martin of Blountsville; daughter, Linda (Tommy) Chambers of Blountsville; two sisters, Ozell Head of Blountsville and Mildred Freeman of Center Point; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Toby Martin, Chris Chambers, Jason Chambers, Brandon Wright, Jeff Evans, Billy Phillips and Lyle Gilliland.

Visitation was Tuesday.

James Paul Couey

Funeral services for James Paul Couey, 80, of Macomb, Mich., will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Duck River Baptist Church, the Rev. Junior Garman officiating, with Burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Couey died Wednesday, Nov. 12, at his residence. He was born June 21, 1923, in Hartselle to John Allen and Claudia Mae Couey. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, seaman 2nd class.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby Couey; two brothers, Fred Couey and Carl Couey; and stepmother, Alver Couey.

Survivors include his son, James Michael Couey of Macomb; daughter, Linda Ceglarek of Macomb; brother, Gordon Couey of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Lynda Ann Moore

Graveside services for Lynda Ann Moore, 49, of Cullman will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at Garden City Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Moore died Wednesday, Nov. 12, at her residence. She was born Jan. 20, 1954, in Cullman to Ralph and Beth Gaddy Knighten.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, David Moore of Cullman; son, Chad Moore of Cullman; daughters, Heather Moore and Wendi Moore, both of Cullman; and brother, Dana Knighten of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Annie Harbison Rodgers

Funeral services for Annie Harbison Rodgers, 85, of Hayden will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at Hanceville Funeral Home, the Rev. Jeff Ingle officiating, with Burial in Crossroads Cemetery.

Mrs. Rodgers died Wednesday, Nov. 12, at her residence. She was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Lauderdale County to John Matthew and Vader Frances Newton Harbison. She was a longtime member of Crossroads Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis Henry Rodgers; and daughter, Marie Rodgers.

Survivors include three sons, Leon Rodgers of Huntsville; John L. Rodgers of Spokane, Wash.; and Larry Rodgers of Smoke Rise; three daughters, Sandra Sisk of Hope Hull and JoAnn Purcell and Carla Bowens, both of Hayden; three brothers, Roy Harbison of Pensacola, Fla., and Corman Harbison and Onnie Harbison, both of Fairhope; two sisters, Eunice Krhut and Elener Kralik, both of Fairhope; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Greg Rodgers, Ken Cagle, Steven Rodgers, Doug Rodgers, Rod Sisk, Brandon Rodgers, Gary Bowens, Corey Bowens and Britt Bowens. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons.

Visitation was Thursday.
