James Shelly Lake

Funeral services for James Shelly Lake, 83, of Vinemont will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Steve Trahan officiating, with Burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lake died Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Folsom Center. He was born July 3, 1920, in Alabama to James Thomas and Lillian Ethel Lowery Lake. He was a supervisor at King Edward.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include three sisters, Ruth Lake Trahan of New Orleans, La., Opal Lake Sloan and Mattie Lee Lake Cadle.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Dennis Earl "Chop-Chop" Bradley

Funeral services for Dennis Earl "Chop-Chop" Bradley, 43, of Blountsville, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Willliams-McCracken Funeral Chapel, Frank Butts and Lonnie Speakman officiating, with Burial in Zion Grove Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bradley died Friday, Nov. 28, in Cullman County. He was born March 21, 1960, in Cullman County to Otis Earl and Sue Bradley.

Survivors include his mother; sister, Tina (Wayne) Bradley Thomason; three brothers, Frankie (Susan) Bradley, Teddy (Cindy) Bradley and Doyle (Robin) Bradley; six nieces, Megan Parson, Jeana "B.J." Bradley, Jennifer Bradley, Sherea Thomason, Jessica Bradley and Autumn (Jason) Eisiminger; nephew, Derek White; two great-nephews, Jordan Parson and Ryan Eisiminger; special friend, Barbara Russell; and two stepsons, Robbie Russell and James Russell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Elvin Dewayne Guthrie

Funeral services for Elvin Dewayne Guthrie, 38, of Cullman, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Mt. Vernon Primitive Baptist Church, Elder J.L. Hopper officiating, with Burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state an hour before the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Guthrie died Saturday, Nov. 29, at his residence. He was born April 24, 1965, in Marshall County, to Harlie Rubin and Lois Marie Calvert Guthrie.

He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Eugene Guthrie and Edis Guthrie; and two sisters, Vivalene Moon and Anita Guthrie.

Survivors include his mother; two brothers, Elgin Guthrie of Cullman and Harlie Elwin Guthrie of St. Lous, Mo.; and four sisters, Imogene Nelms and Sherry Graves, both of Cullman; Eldagene Roberson of Birmingham and Dean Jones of Hartselle.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Vernon Duane Kittle

Funeral services for Vernon Duane Kittle, 74, of Locust Fork, formerly of Fairview, were Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Horace Hall officiating, with Burial in Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kittle died Saturday, Nov. 27, at his residence. He was born March 25, 1929, in Beverly, W.Va. He was a retired truck driver. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-48. He was a member of the American Legion Post 129, Blountsville Chapter, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffers, Warehousemen and Helpers of America, AFL-CIO Local Union No. 294-Albany, N.Y. and First Baptist Church of Fairview.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clive Lynn Sr. and Hazel Bosley Kittle; his wife, Barbara Jean Cavanaugh Kittle; a brother, Clive Lynn Kittle Jr.; a sister, Anna Lee Johnson; and his stepmother, Julia Huzar-Kittle.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Kittle; two sons, John D. (Joann) Kittle of Randolph, N.J., Kenneth Kittle of Duanesburg, N.Y.; a daughter, Sheryl Kelly of Birmingham; a brother, Donald Bruce (Gail) Kittle of New York; four stepsisters, Patrica (Richard) Fernald and Sonia (Robert) Retajczyk, both of Schenecetady, N.Y., Priscilla (Kenneth) Keffner of Clifton Park, N.Y. and Shirley (Joseph) DeMartino of Ballston Lake, N.Y.; three sisters, Geraldine Lynne (John L.) Kress of Pennsylvania, Eva Mae Sabatelli and Donna Joan (Charlie Farina) Salerno, both of New York; and three grandchildren, Laura Kittle of New Jersey, Nicholas Kittle and Kyle Mohr, both of New York.

Visitation was Saturday.

Edgar Lee Lovelady

Funeral services for Edgar Lee Lovelady, 78, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Jerry Goodwin and Junior Buchanan officiating, with Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lovelady died Saturday, Nov. 29, at his residence. He was born March 5, 1925, in Carral, Ga. to Benjamin Franklin and Georgia Belle Nix Lovelady. He was a retired machine operator for Inland Buildings.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vinell Kelly Lovelady; two sons, Ernest Lee Lovelady and Ronald David Lovelady; a grandson, Ronald Lee Lovelady; and four brothers.

Survivors include his former wife, Elvie Thompson Freeman; two sisters, Buena Brunner of Montgomery and Nova Yeckle; four grandchildren, Sabrina Lovelady and Dewayne Hendrix of Cullman, Renia (Brian) Clay and Terry (Marie) Lovelady, both of Hartselle; four great-granddaughters; and three great-grandsons.

Visitation was Monday.

James Lonnie Self

Funeral services for James Lonnie Self, 68, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Jack Lockheart officiating, with Burial in Duck River Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Self died Sunday, Nov. 30, at his residence. He was born Aug. 31, 1935, in Blount County to Fred Odell and Georgia Patterson Self. He was a retired machinist for Native American Services and a member of the National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, W.J. "Buddy" Self and Bobby Self

Survivors include the mother of his children, Freda Annette Armstrong of Walter; two sons, James Lonnie (Shelly) Self Jr. of Arab and Gary Lee Self of Cullman; two daughters, Regina Lynette McAlister of Guntersville and Rhonda Lynn Travis of Cullman; five brothers, Fred F. Self, Jerry L. Self, Billy R. Self, Franklin Self and Roger D. Self; five sisters, Willie Mae Garrison, Linda F. Hamilton, Darlene Hardy, Maxine Light and Cecelia Goble; nine grandchildren, Clinton James Travis, Michael McAlister, Matthew McAlister, Leah A. Travis, Justin W. Travis, Jessica I. Travis, Madieline Mae Self, James Cole Self and David Lee Self; and great-grandchild, Haven D. Travis.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

James Alton Bush

Funeral services for James Alton Bush, 84, of Rainbow City, formerly of Cullman, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Collier-Butler Chapel, Dr. Mike Yopp officiating, with Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.

Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bush died Sunday, Nov. 30. He was a resident of the Gadsden area for the past 58 years. He was a member of White Springs Baptist Church and a former member of Rainbow City Lions Club. He served in World War II and retired in 1981 from Republic Steel with 33 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Trilby Stricklin Bush; a grandson, Nathan Brett Bush; his parents, James Martin and Retha Irene Bush; three brothers, Howard Bush, Calvin Bush and Carl Bush; and two sisters, May Perry and Esther Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Era A. Bush; a daughter, Linda (James) New; a son, Keith (Karen) Bush; four grandsons, Scott (Dana) New, Blake (Stephanie) New, Brandon Bush and Evan Bush; four great-grandchildren, Savannah, Ashbey New, Maggie, Paden New; and a brother, Dewayne (Barbara) Bush.

The family requests flowers or donations be made to White Springs Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Scott New, Blake New, Brandon Bush, Evan Bush and nephews, James "Bubba" Allen and Phillip Wilson.

Amiel Dunn

Funeral services for Amiel Dunn, 76, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, the Revs. Randy Monk and John Henry Smith officiating, with Burial in Mt. Grove Baptist Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dunn died Tuesday, Dec. 2 in Birmingham. He was born in Cullman on April 16, 1927, the son of Mark and Minnie Kramer Dunn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Deloris Jean Dunn; and a great-grandson, Will Paris.

Survivors include his wife, Evia Jean Smith Dunn of Hanceville; three sons, Keith Owen (Kathy) Dunn of Arab, Tommy (Jennifer) Dunn and Tony Dunn, both of Hanceville; a daughter, Diane Paris of Arab; a grandson, Nathan Dunn; three granddaughters, Misty Dunn, Mindy Paris and Amanda Seals; a great-granddaughter, Destiny Taylor; three brothers, Harvey Dunn of Hanceville, Joe Dunn of Tuscaloosa and Alvin Dunn of Good Hope; and a sister, Eula of Florida.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Billy Ray Harris

Funeral services for Billy Ray Harris, 55, of Vinemont will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at Crossroads Baptist Church, the Rev. Malcolm Carter II officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Harris died Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. He was born May 20, 1948. He was a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Harris; and two brothers, Jimmy Harris and Alvin Harris Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda McBrayer Harris; two daughters, Marsha (William) McMurry and Shannon (Craig) Waters; his mother, Alice Harris Burks; three brothers, Ronald Harris, Rickey Harris and Bruce Harris; two sisters, Libby Reid and Bertha Burks; and seven grandchildren, Brittany Smothers, Kourtany Smothers, Hailey Smothers, MaKenze McMurry, Ryan Ergle, Nicole Ergle and Michelle Waters.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Tharice Quattlebaum Angle

Funeral services for Tharice Quattlebaum Angle, 92, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, the Revs. Mary Scales and Emory Calvert officiating, with Burial in Bethsadia Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Angle died Wednesday, Dec. 3 at her residence. She was born Dec. 7, 1910 to Columbus and Josie Teague Quattlebaum. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Angle; her parents; a brother, Raymond Quattlebaum; and three sisters, Sadie Holladay, Bernice Wells and Mary Elizabeth Reid.

Survivors include a son, Hilton (Cindy) Angle; and two grandchildren, Chad Angle and Madison Angle.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

John Ottis Pigg

Funeral services for John Ottis Pigg, 72, of Cullman will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, Bill Goodwin officiating, with Burial in Valley Springs Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pigg died Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born Feb. 22, 1931 in Alabama to Leander Franklin and Louella Beck Pigg. He was a truck driver and owned his own truck. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Fincher Pigg; two sons, John Walton and Mark Steven Pigg; four daughters, Sherry Winton, Alisa Howard, Cheryl Pigg and Kimberly Kniffen; three sisters, Magdlene Good, Edna Earl Key, Wanda Laney; three brothers, Ardale Pigg, Rosoe "Rock" Pigg, Paulie Pigg; five granddaughters; six grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today.

Karol Barbour Goebel

Memorial services for Karol Barbour Goebel, 64, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church, the Rev. Bob Kurtz officiating.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Goebel died Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Chicago, Ill. on April 30, 1939, to Lawrence and Gail Porter. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor degree in fine arts design. She was a member of Tri Delta Sorority and was selected All Star Football Queen in 1960. From 1962 through 1968 she was employed by the National Council of Teachers of English at the University of Illinois. She moved with her family to Cullman in 1973. She was a recognized area artist and worked for the Alabama Poultry and Egg Association for 14 years, where she produced publications, brochures, The Poultry Magazine and two cookbooks. She also worked as a free lance artist illustrating books, business brochures and logos. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church and the Friday Study Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Goebel; a sister, Gail Shores; a brother, Larry (Sharron) Porter; two sons, Scott Thomas of Boulder, Colo. and Jon (Sheryl) Thomas of Longmont, Colo.; two stepsons, Gene Jr. (Kim) Goebel of Glen Mills, Penn.; and Steven (Debbie) Goebel of Victor, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church.

Opal Woodard Hitt

Funeral services for Opal Woodard Hitt, 83, of Blountsville will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at Blountsville Funeral Chapel, Bobby Dunn officiating, with Burial in Austin Creek Cemetery near Blountsville.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hitt died Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Montclair Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. She was born in Blount County to Willis and Ida Griffin Grigsby. She was a retired school lunchroom worker at Blountsville School. She was a member of Austin Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Woodard; a son, Wayne Woodard; her parents; and a sister, Faye Eddy.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Lynn (Norma) Woodard of Nectar and Norman Suddith of Blountsville; five daughters, Jean Whittington, Sandra (Jerry) Staton and Barbara Foster, all of Blountsville, Louise Jordan of Red Bay and Jo (Gene) Bailey of North Shelby County; a daughter-in-law, Linda Woodard of Nectar; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Jewel Grigsby of Center Point; and three sisters, Bernice Holland and Ivy Klabber, both of Birmingham, and Zelda McGriff of Center Point.

Pallbearers will be Greg Young, Danny Sivley, Richard Jones, Shannon Woodard, Keith Woodard, John Morgan and Clyde Sanford.
