Evelyn Propst Ward

Graveside services for Evelyn Propst Ward, 87, of Hanceville, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Cullman City Cemetery, Mike B. Ward officiating.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ward died Saturday, Dec. 13, at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 8, 1916, in Fayette County to Grover Propst. She worked for 30 years at Ward Jewelers and 20 years at Anderson Boats. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Cullman.

Survivors include one son, Roy Clement (Nancy) Ward Jr.; one sister, Hilda Brasher; one grandson, Mike B. (Catherine) Ward; one great-grandchild, Kala Quick; and a special friend, Betty Leeth Haynes.

Pallbearers will be Francis Cabri, Jean Deese, Daniel Fowler, Curt Chapman, Robbie Conn and Edward Robertson.

Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. today.

Christeen Williams

Funeral services for Christeen Williams, 66, of Cullman, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Nesmith Methodist Church, Tommy (Buck) Graves officiating, with Burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state an hour before the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Williams died Friday, Dec. 12, at her residence. She was born April 24, 1937, in Alabama to Sherman and Myrtle Roberson Netherton. She worked in environmental services for St. Bernard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cleo Williams; two sisters, Barbara Johns and Agness Netherton; and two brothers, Don Netherton and James Netherton.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa (Sherwin) Bates and Lisa Fransden; four sons, Jerry (Lana) Williams, Terry (Melisa) Williams, Mickey (Annette) Williams and Phillip (Garic Sue) Williams; three sisters, Frances Harbison, Hazel Ellis and Betty Sue MacAlpine; three brothers, Bill Netherton, Roy Dean Netherton and Thomas Netherton; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today.

Betty Ruth Bostick

Funeral services for Betty Ruth Bostick, 52, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Edwin Hayes officiating, with entombment in Cullman Heritage Mausoleum.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bostick died Monday, Dec. 15, at Woodland Medical Center. She was born July 31, 1951, in Walker County. She was a business administrator for Edward Jones Investments. She was the former president of the Cullman City Board of Education and the former chairwoman of the Cullman County Library Board.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack King Sides.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Greg Bostick; her mother, Ruth Tucker Sides; a son, Brian Bostick; a daughter, Amanda Bostick; and a brother, Steve (Kathy) Sides, all of Cullman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cullman County Foster Parents Association, c/o Michelle Riggs, at 165 County Road 1212, Vinemont, Ala. 35179.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Betty Bradford Robertson

Funeral services for Betty Bradford Robertson, 68, of Holly Pond were Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Holly Pond Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Bruce Dial officiating, with Burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Robertson died Saturday, Dec. 13, at her residence. She was born in Blount County on May 16, 1935, to Percy and Myrtle Smith Bradford. She was a retired production worker from Cullman Products. She was a member of Holly Pond Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton "Bud" Robertson; her parents; and a sister, Mildred Copeland Wynn.

Survivors include two sons, Marty Robertson and Rodney Robertson, both of Holly Pond; two daughters, Donna (Tim) White and Pam (Richard) Yeager, both of Holly Pond; a sister, Evelyn Washburn (Jesse) Daniel of Blountsville; and five grandchildren, Josh (Nikki) White, Trent White, Riley Yeager, Katie Yeager and Whitney Robertson.

Pallbearers were Josh White, Trent White, Riley Yeager, Gary McHan, Jerod McHan and Ronnie Haynes.

Visitation was Sunday.

Mildred Inez Davis

Funeral services for Mildred Inez Davis, 73, of Hanceviile, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Valley View Baptist Church, Marvin Clemmons officiating, with Burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state an hour before the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Davis died Saturday, Dec. 13, at her residence. She was born April 1, 1930, in Alabama to Albert and Exie Callie Hunt Baty. She was a housewife.

Survivors include her mother, who lives in Arkadelphia; two daughters, Rhonda Carol Rusk of Arkadelphia and Laura Gale Washburn of Locust Fork; three sons, David Herman Davis of Cullman and Richard Lowell Davis and Phillip Randall Davis, both of Arkadelphia; four sisters, Kay White of Good Hope, Emagene Wisener of Arkadelphia, Becky Way of Cullman and Merle Baruch of Jasper; three brothers, Howard Baty, Leon Baty and Malcolm Baty, all of Arkadelphia; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Lillian Josephine Hice Scott

Graveside services for Lillian Josephine Hice Scott of Vinemont were Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Cullman City Cemetery, the Rev. Warren Ruland officiating.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Scott died Friday, Dec. 12, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cullman County. She was a retired telephone operator with South Central Bell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Corlis V. Sr. and Eleanor Preiss Hice.

Survivors include her husband, Carmel Scott of Vinemont; a brother, Corlis Jr. (Mary) Hice of Cullman; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Kamemeier of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four brothers-in-law, C.O. Scott of Florence, Parks Scott, Foy Scott and Ollie Scott, all of Vinemont; and a nephew, Victor Hice of Cullman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Visitation was Sunday.

William Bruce Putman

Funeral services for William Bruce Putman, 70, of Blountsville were Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Blountsville Funeral Chapel, Gary Miller officiating, with Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Blountsville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Putman died Saturday, Dec. 13, at his residence. He was born in Blount County to James Rufus and Era E. Knight Putman. He was a retired truck driver from My Way Transportation Company. He was a Freewill Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Ray Putman and Dan Putman; and a sister, Betty Jean Posey.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Isbell Putman of Blountsville; a son, Randy Bruce Putman of Blountsville; a daughter, Vicky (Sherrell) Smith of Blountsville; two daughters, Jeanette Jones of Birmingham and Fay Nell Moore of Blountsville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Dusty Baker, Jake Culwell, Wayne Sullins, David Hamm, Wayne Claburn, Heath Moore and Tracy Putman.

Honorary pallbearer was Ty Smith.

Visitation was Sunday and Monday.

Janet Marie Reid

Memorial services for Janet Marie Reid, 59, of N. Biloxi, Miss., will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reid died Sunday, Dec. 14, in Ocean Springs. She was a native and lifelong resident of the coast. She was a retired librarian assistant with the Jackson County School District and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Esther Seymour.

Survivors include her husband, Carl "Don" Reid of N. Biloxi; a daughter, Donna Marie (Charlie) Burks of Ocean Springs; two sons, Carl Jr. (Teresa) Reid of Vancleave and Richard (Kimberly) Reid of Baton Rouge, La.; her father, Hugh C. Seymour; two sisters, Bedola Bond of Ocean Springs and Lula Jacquet of the Latimer community; three brothers, H.C. Seymour of Ocean Springs, Clarence Seymour of Vancleave and Michael Seymour of Latimer; and eight grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Leukemia Society of America, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, N.Y. 10605.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Cecil A. 'Bo' Stephens Jr.

Funeral services for Cecil A. "Bo" Stephens Jr., 48, of Eutaw were 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Memory Chapel, Kenneth Lee officiating. Private services were held graveside.

Memory Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stephens died Wednesday, Dec. 3. He was an avid woodsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting deer, turkey and duck. He was the owner of Southland Pallet Company in Eutaw. He was a dedicated husband and father.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Jean Richards Stephens.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Lancaster Stephens of Eutaw; a daughter, Rebecca Leigh Stephens of Cullman; a son, Robert Mark Stephens of Eutaw; a sister, Dorothy Ann (Gary) McGalliard; his father, Cecil A. Stephens Sr.; and close friend, Nathan Howard.

Visitation was Friday, Dec. 6.

Chalmus Weathers

Funeral services for Chalmus Weathers, 89, of Boaz will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2003, at St. Paul United Methodist Church of Boaz, with Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Rowan McRae Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Weathers died Saturday, Dec. 13. He was born in Sardis on Feb. 3, 1914. He was educated in the Etowah County School System. He attended Jacksonville and Auburn, receiving his degree in agriculture in 1942. He was employed by the Auburn Extension Service and served as an assistant county agent in Jackson County and as a county agent in Marion County. In 1945 he entered into business in Boaz and was a hardware retailer for 30 years. He was very active in community affairs. In 1951 and 1952, he served in the Alabama State Senate. He was a trustee of the Boaz Public Schools for 16 years. He served two terms as president of the Boaz Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Boaz Industrial Development Board from its formation in the mid 1950s until recently. He also served for many years on the Boaz Gas Board and the Snead College Advisory Board. Mr. Weathers was a major contributor in the effort to attract industry to Boaz and in the development of the Boaz Factory Outlet Centers. He was a director of the Sand Mountain Bank for many years. Upon his retirement form the retail business, Mr. Weathers served as executive director of the Boaz Chamber of Commerce for 20 years. He was very interested in developing the tourism industry in north Alabama and served as president of the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association. He was also a longtime member of the Boaz Civitan Club. He served as a trustee of the Alabama Baptist Children's Home for a number of years. He was instrumental in the effort to establish the Tom Bevill Center for Snead State Community College and the Chalmus L. Weathers Business Building on the Snead campus was named in his honor. He was known for his commitment to anything that contributed to a better community, county and state. He remained active in civic activities, including fund-raising for Snead College. At the time of his death, he was serving as president of Lighting Innovations Inc. of Trussville. He is a member of St. Paul Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Vickers Weathers; three sons, Glenn Weathers of Huntsville, Bob Weathers of Boaz and John Weathers of Albertville; a daughter, Joyce Smart of Albertville; a stepson, Justin Craig of Boaz; a daughter, Twyla Strawn of Guntersville; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Vertice Bates

Funeral services for Vertice Bates, 90, of Eva are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the funeral home.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bates died Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Timothy Lee Gardner

Funeral services for Timothy Lee Gardner, 49, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Hunky Blackwood and Tim Aris officiating, with Burial in Central Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gardner died Monday, Dec. 15, at his residence. He was born Aug. 28, 1954, in Cullman County. He was a 1972 graduate of West Point High School, where he received a scholarship to St. Bernard and played for the basketball team. He graduated from St. Bernard College in 1976 with a bachelor of science degree in education. He worked for the Cullman County road department for 18 years. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Rodgers Gardner.

Survivors include his father, Sanford Lee Gardner; five aunts, Audie Buchannan, Fayenell Ballew, Johnnie Pack, Norma Rodgers and Clara Rodgers; and an uncle, Howard Gardner.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marguerite Dykes Murphy

Funeral services for Marguerite Dykes Murphy, 88, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, Drs. Edwin Hayes and Bill Burkett officiating, with Burial in Pineview Memorial Gardens in Wetumpka.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Murphy died Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Nov. 19, 1915, to John Henry and Hattie Lou Owens Dykes. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, Howard Milton (Sharon) Murphy of Alabaster; three daughters, Patricia Murphy (Gordon) Perry of Huntsville, Peggy Murphy Harris and Janis Murphy Davis, both of Cullman; a brother, James Berry (Billie) Dykes of Donalsonville, Ga.; a sister, Katherine Dykes Smith of Morrow, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County and First Baptist Church in Cullman.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
