Ivy Willingham Fulks

Funeral services for Ivy Willingham Fulks, 76, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., formerly of Athens, will be at noon Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at McConnell Funeral Home, Dr. Curtis Coleman officiating, with Burial in Roselawn Cemetery.

McConnell Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fulks died Wednesday, Dec. 17, in Gulf Breeze, Fla. She was born Jan. 18 , 1927, in Cullman. She was a longtime resident of Limestone County and spent her last year in Gulf Breeze, Fla. with her children. She retired from the U.S. Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal in 1994. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Athens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Manolyar Willingham; her husband, James Allen Fulks; and a sister, Mamie Lee Bishop.

Survivors include her son, Jeffrey Allen (Tracey Miller) Fulks; two grandchildren, Justin Allen and Shelby Christian Fulks; a brother, Otto (Frances) Willingham of Cullman; and three sisters, Opal Smith of Greensboro, N.C., and Odell (Bertis) Nail and Eula Mae Tucker of Cullman.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Marks, Bobby Miller, Ray Neese, Astor Roberts, Grover Sanders and Robert Valls.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

James Wilfred Tucker Jr.

Funeral services for James Wilfred Tucker Jr., 72, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, Dr. Edwin Hayes officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tucker died Thursday, Dec. 18 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 17, 1931 in Alabama to Joel Jackson and Mullice Lee Purdue Tucker. He was a former district judge.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Edge Tucker; three daughters, Deborah Tucker, Donna Jacobs and Karen (Keith) Shedd; a son, Dr. James W. Tucker Jr.; two brothers, Donald (Peggy) Tucker and Kenneth (Mary Will) Tucker; four aunts, Opal (Hollis) Tucker, Beth (Roy) Tucker, Geneva (Delmer) Freeman and Bertha (Alton) Perdue; seven grandchildren, Anna Kincade, John Fuller Jr., Tiffany Jacobs, Claire Jacobs, Abigail Jacobs, Jonathan Shedd and Amanda Shedd Cruse; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Friday.

Madie Pauline Benefield Waters

Funeral services for Madie Pauline Benefield Waters, 80, of Cullman County will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Moss-Service Chapel, with Burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Waters died Friday, Dec. 19 at her residence after battling cancer since 1985. She was a West Point High School graduate where she was a member of the National Beta Club. She attended Florence State Teachers College, the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Her passion to help children led her into the field of education. She taught the first special-education class for mentally challenged children at the American Legion home. In her spare time she hand-sewed Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for children ailing with cancer. Following her teaching career, she owned and operated what was commonly known as The Dairy Bar in Good Hope. Her fresh, homemade hamburgers were five for a dollar. She continued working in Cullman with her husband of nearly 60 years, Hosie, and son, Jerry Mack, until her 80th year. She and her husband married soon after his return from World War II and for most of their marriage lived in Cullman County. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Hosie N. Waters; two children, Patti W. (C. Frazier) Hollis of Atlanta, Ga. and Jerry Mack (Susan K.) Waters of Cullman; a sister, Ethal B. Freeman of Cullman; four grandchildren, Carrie W. Thomas of Clinton, Miss., Emily H.H. Tate of Atlanta, Ga., and Melanie W. Townson and J. Nathan Waters, both of Cullman; and two great-grandchildren, S. Tilghman Tate Jr. and Lanie Paige Townson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way, Birmingham, Ala. 35205 or Hospice of Cullman County, 402 4th Ave., Cullman, Ala. 35055, both in honor of Madie Waters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John William Burns

Funeral services for John William Burns, 87, of Vinemont will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Flint Creek Baptist Church, W.C. Green officiating, with Burial in Flint Creek Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Burns died Thursday, Dec. 18 at his residence. He was born Sept. 29, 1916 in Alabama to William Henry and Gracie Ralph Burns. He was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. He was a member of Flint Creek Baptist Church where he taught the same Sunday School class for 41 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Melba Burns; a sister, Mary Lee Graves; and a brother, Charles Robert Burns.

Survivors include two daughters, Billie Burns and Kathy Burns Miller; two sons, Henry Albert (Anita) Burns and Terry Max Hudson; four sisters, Gertrude Chambers, Dorothy Taylor, Betty Kampis and Gracie Ann McClendon; five grandchildren, William Burns, Mandy Morgan, Courtney Burns, Ross Miller and Katie Beth Miller.

Pallbearers will be Delane Shumake, Jerry Kampis, Harold McClendon, Darrell Gay, Wayno Demonia and Wacota Demonia.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Cagle and Sharron Tillery.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today.

J.D. Andrews Jr.

Funeral services for J.D. Andrews Jr., 79, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at First Baptist Church of Fairview, David Chambers officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Andrews died Thursday, Dec. 18 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 21, 1924 in Alabama to Jefferson Davis Sr. and Lucy Welborn Andrews. He was superintendent for State Highway Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II as a gunner's mate third class aboard the USS Martin H. Ray DE 338 He was fleet director of CARTS and court referral liaison for Victim Services of Cullman at Harbor Haus.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Andrews of Cullman; two daughters, Brenda (Randy) Britt and Cathi Heald, both of Cullman; two stepdaughters, Sherry (Tommy) Luker of Cullman and Regina (Doug) Grimes on Athens; two sons, Lou (Paulette) Andrews of Seminole, Fla. and Scott Andrews of Cullman; five sisters, Ann Andrews, Betty Hale, Connie Lemons, Judy Parker, all of Cullman, and Toby Akridge of Fairfax, Va.; five brothers, Bill Andrews, Wallace (Mick) Andrews, Bud Andrews, Butch Andrews, all of Cullman, and Bob Andrews of South Carolina; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

William Adolph Shedd Jr.

Funeral services for William Adolph Shedd Jr., 63, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Corinth Baptist Church, the Revs. Wayne Jetton and Butch Shedd officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state an hour prior to the service.

Mr. Shedd died Thursday, Dec. 18, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 11, 1940 to William Sr. and Nova Suit Shedd. A lifelong resident of Cullman, he was employed with Liquid Gas Manufacturing and was a member of Cullman Moose Lodge No. 1861.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Wilma Parris.

Survivors include his wife, Charolette Kent Shedd of Cullman; two sons, Tony Shedd of Nashville, Michael (Denise) Shedd of Decatur; stepson, Shane (Shawn) Kent of Cullman; two daughters, Christina (Philip) Martin of Clarksville, Tenn., Beth (Mike) Baker of Birmingham; two stepdaughters, Martha Kate Cummins of Denver, Mary Jane (Henry) Flack of DeFun Springs, Fla.; three brothers, James T. Shedd, Lonnie Rudolph Shedd, Vernon P. Shedd; two sisters, Barbara Roberts, Madene Harris; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Viola Evelyn Sticher

Funeral services for Viola Evelyn Sticher, 79, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Brady Kilgo and Albert Dean Estes officiating, with Burial in Oak Level Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Sticher died Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Dec. 21, 1923 in Cullman County to Cody and Lela Porter Hightower. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Fred Sticher.

Survivors include a son, Edsel (Judi) Sticher of Cullman; two brothers, Harvey (Fay) Hightower and Horace (Dean) Hightower, both of Cullman; two grandchildren, Tonya (Alan) Dykes of Prattville and Laura (Eric) Dunkin of Holly Pond; and one great-grandchild, Sydney Dunkin of Holly Pond.

Visitation was Friday.

Alma Dismukes Davenport

Funeral services for Alma Dismukes Davenport, 92, of Holly Pond will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Holly Pond Funeral Chapel, the Revs. Jerry Hackney and Micheal Floyd officiating, with Burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Davenport died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 27, 1811, in Cullman County to John Wiley and Josephine Mitchell Dismukes. She was a homemaker and a member of Brooklyn Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joseph Walter Davenport.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Beverly Diane Duskin Nix

Funeral services for Beverly Diane Duskin Nix, 43, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Moss Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Randy Sellers officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nix died Friday, Dec. 19, at Woodland Medical Center. She was born May 24, 1960, to J.M. and Louvie Phillips Duskin. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Robert Duskin.

Survivors include her husband, Randy Nix; one son, Kevin Nix; one daughter, Danielle Nix; four brothers, Jerald (Diane) Duskin, Terry (Freda) Duskin, Eugene (Linda) Duskin and Richard Duskin; two sisters, Delores (Woody) Underwood and Jeanette (Donnie) Alldredge; 10 nieces; six nephews; 12 great-nieces and 10 great-nephews.

Visitation will be from 3:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Brindley died Dec. 20, 2003, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 10, 1971, to Jasper Harold and Ethel Alene Gardner Brindley. He was employed in the logging industry.

Survivors include his father, Jasper Harold Brindley (Carol Mickler) of Falkville; his mother, Alene Gardner Brindley (Ricky Swafford) of Eva; his wife, Jennifer Patterson Brindley of Vinemont; one brother, Kenneth (Wendy) Brindley of Tyler, Texas; one stepbrother, Brian Gomez of Somerville; three sisters, Tina (Alan Kenneth) Puckett of Eva, Tammy (David) Simpson of Spring Hill, Fla., and Beth Louise Train of Eva; two grandmothers, Opal Collins of Berlin and Mildred Turner of Vinemont; his mother-in-law, Glenis (Darrell) Campbell of Logan; and his sister-in-law, Cindy Patterson (Neal Miles) of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elner Skinner Calhoun

Funeral services for Elner Skinner Calhoun, 70, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Grace Episcopal Church, the Rev. Brent Norris officiating, with remains interred in the church columbarium.

Charter Funeral Home of Calera is notifying.

Mrs. Calhoun died Friday, Dec. 19, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. She was born in Cullman County on Nov. 29, 1933.

She was preceded in death by her parents, T.W. and Leola Skinner; two brothers, Kermit Skinner and John T. Skinner; and two sisters, Eloise Williams and Azalee Skinner.

Survivors include her husband, Robert H. Calhoun; and two sisters, Jewell Howard and Joyce Murphree, both of Cullman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace Episcopal Church building fund.

No visitation is planned.

Ruth Dorothea Thomason

Funeral services for Ruth Dorothea Thomason, 78, of Vinemont will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Wayne Nail officiating, with Burial in Thomason Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Thomason died Saturday, Dec. 20, at HealthSouth Metro West. She was born April 19, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., to Olaf and Anna Freitag Borreson. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and twin infant boys.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur Thomason of Vinemont; four sons, Vernon (Shirley) Thomason, Roy (Robbie) Thomason, Michael (Carol) Thomason and Jamey (Donna) Thomason, all of Vinemont; six daughters, Anna (Gene) Kiesow, Ellaine (Jerry) Edmondson, Geraldine Voit and Rita (Richard) Walker, all of Vinemont, Jeannette Daugherty and Ruby (Bob) Landreth, both of Cullman; a brother, Ronald (Barbara) Borresen of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, June (Homer) Kunz of Tracy City, Tenn. and Betty Lou (O.P.) Williams of Florida; 26 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
