Eunice Waddell 'Tip' Harris

Funeral services for Eunice Waddell "Tip" Harris, 81, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 1, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Revs. Gary Waddell and Lynn Perkins officiating, with Burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Harris died Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born April 17, 1922.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleve and Laura Parrish Waddell; and her husband, C.M. "John" Harris.

Survivors include a son, Larry (Linda) Harris; a grandson, L.D. "Smiley" (Darlene) Harris; a granddaughter, Lori (Jay) Blubaugh; two brothers, Horace (Lillian) Waddell and Bob Waddell; and three great-grandchildren, Thomas Blubaugh, Z.J. Blubaugh and Madison Harris.

Pallbearers will be Smiley Harris, Leon Freeman, Loy Bennifield, Jay Blubaugh, Steve Waddell and Billy Benifield.

Visitation was Wednesday.

John L. Green

Funeral services for John L. Green, 76, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Hopewell Baptist Church, the Rev. Truman Davis officiating, with Burial in adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Green died Thursday, Jan. 1, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born May 23, 1927 to Elbert and Allie Long Green. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and worked fro Lanson for 17 years until it closed. He was a farmer most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Gloria Jeanette Pope.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mildred Speakman Green; three sons, Jerry (Debora) Green of Hartselle, Kenneth (Barbara) Green of Eva and Ricky (Sandra) Green of Cullman; a son-in-law, Olen Pope of Jones Chapel; a half-brother, Virgil Tipton of Arab; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday.

Bertha Wynelle Self

Funeral services for Bertha Wynelle Self, 87, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Tommy Graves officiating, with Burial in Vinemont Baptist Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Self died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born in Cullman County on May 17, 1916, to Perry and Laura Tillman Maner. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist faith having attended White's Grove Baptist Church, Vinemont Baptist Church, Faith Baptist Church and Berlin Baptist Church. She was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Virgil Huffstutler and second husband, Sherman Self.

Survivors include three sons, Guy (Pat) Huffstutler of Hanceville, Larry (Carolyn) Huffstutler and Stanley Self, both of Vinemont; two daughters, Freda (Ellis) Sears of Cullman and Hilda Hampton of Piney Grove; a brother, Roy Lee Maner of Good Hope; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Eunice Frances Brindley Grimes

Funeral services for Eunice Frances Brindley Grimes, 94, of Fairview will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Welcome Baptist Church with Burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grimes died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at the home of her son, Harold Grimes. She was born in Morgan County on Dec. 6, 1909, to Albert Sidney and Eliza Frances Johnston Brindley. Living most of her life in the Fairview community, she graduated from Fairview High School in 1928, attended beauty school in Centre and opened Grimes Beauty Shop in Fairview in 1935. She operated the shop for 62 years. Mrs. Grimes was a member of the Dripping Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served in several offices of that organization, including regent. She was also a charter member of the Brindley Historical Society and was a great-granddaughter of Mace Thomas Payne Brindley, who settled the Simcoe area and for whom Brindley Mountain is named. She was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hoyt Grimes; brother, John Brindley; and a grandson, Jerry Michael Maddox.

Survivors include two sons, Harold (Jimmie) Grimes of Baileyton, Clarence "Stan" Stanfield of Atlanta; daughter, Dorothy Lytle of Baileyton; nine grandchildren, Karen Kittle, Jeff Lytle, Ramona Swindall, Fancy (Mark) Motherway, Barbara (Dennis) Koehler, Jean (Jeff) Duffy, Julie Grimes, Jackie (Anthony) Garlowich, Jamie (Richard) Fallin; 13 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

Mattie Lou Harvell

Funeral services for Mattie Lou Harvell, 71, of Rockmart, Ga., will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Mt. Grove Baptist Church, the Rev. Jacky Morgan officiating, with Burial in Mt. Grove Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Harvell died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, in Cullman. She was born in Polk County, Ga., on April 10, 1932, to Ed and Emma Massey Barrett.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin Harvell of Rockmart, Ga.; a brother, Bob Barrett of Rockmart, Ga.; and three sisters, Georgia Crawford of Hanceville, Brenda McNabb and Emily Sparks, both of Cullman.

Visitation was Thursday.

Joseph William Dale

Funeral services for Joseph William Dale, 81, of Hanceville, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Home, the Rev. Jacky Morgan officiating, with Burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dale died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, on Dec. 25, 1922, to Raymond R. and Edna Katherine Monroe Dale. He had been a resident of the Huntsville Veterans Administration Nursing Home since April 2003.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond R. Dale.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite Edwards Dale of Benedictine Manor, Cullman; and four brothers-in-law, Earl (Lorene) Edwards, R.T. (Era) Edwards, Paul Edwards and Alvin (Dellavina) Edwards.

Visitation is at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Michael 'Mike' Eller

Funeral services for James Michael "Mike" Eller, 53, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, John Edward Hunt and Billy Wooten officiating, with Burial in Bethlehem Cemetery in Douglas.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eller died Friday, Jan. 2, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 24, 1950, to James Clovis and Jesse Marie Murray Eller. He was a nursing home consultant.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, Ollie and Bernice Murray.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Maxie Hopkins Eller; one son, James Christopher Eller; one stepson, Cory Edward Walden; two daughters, Lisa Maxie Tarvin and Angela Michelle Reeves; two brothers, Anthony E. Eller and Jodie Eller; one sister, Brenda J. McGriff; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Ehlman, Jamie Ehlman, Hal Chaney, Mark Baldwin, David Butler and James Roden.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wilmer William 'Bill' Yoder

Funeral services for Wilmer William "Bill" Yoder, 86, of Hanceville, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at St. Andrews Methodist Church, the Rev. Chuck Canterberry officiating, with Burial Monday in Suncrest Gardens in Moultrie, Ga. The body will lie in state an hour prior to the service.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at Suncrest Gardens.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Yoder died Thursday, Jan. 1, at The University of Alabama in Birmingham. He was born Aug. 8, 1917, in Harrisville, Mich., to Enos H. and Emma L. Yoder Yoder. He was a retired master sergeant from the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service and was retired from Haileah Hospital after 20 years. He was a lifetime Mason and an active member of St. Andrews Methodist Church for the past eight years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Yoder of Hanceville; three sons, Robert Belknap of Houston, Mark (Karen) Belknap of Bakersville, Calif., and James A. (Diane) Yoder of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Cathy (Robert Jr.) Walden of Moultrie and Leisa Brown of Cullman; eight grandchildren, Chastity Machen of Dahlonega, Ga., Sarah Machen and Robert Paul Walden, both of Athens, Ga.; Matthew Walden and Joshua Walden, both of Moultrie.; Jason Yoder of Annapolis, Md.; Ryan Belknap of Bakersville and Jade Cattaneo of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Andrews Helping Hand Ministries or St. Andrews Building Fund.

A private visitation was held.

Annie M. Bullard

Funeral services for Annie M. Bullard, 63, of Holly Pond were Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Blountsville Funeral Chapel, Charlie Aldredge and Larry Nail officiating, with Burial in Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Blountsville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bullard died Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cullman County to Emmett and Callie Meales Garmon. She was retired from Comtronix in Guntersville. She was a member of Zion Grove Baptist Church in Cullman County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Rex E. Watson.

Survivors include a son, Stan (Sandy) Watson of Blountsville; four daughters, Sheila (Butch) Minor and Mary Evans, both of Blountsville, Debbie (Barry) Green of Hayden and Marsha (Rodney) Butler of Crossville; a brother, Herbert Garmon of Birmingham; a sister, Lena Mason of Holly Pond; and 11 grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday.

Alton Howell Sr.

Funeral services for Alton Howell Sr., 89, of Thomaston, Ga. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Pasley-Fletcher Chapel, the Rev. Charles Bennett officiating, with Burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Thomaston.

Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Howell died Thursday, Jan. 1, at Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston. He was born April 28, 1914, in Thomaston. A native of Upson County, he was the former owner and operator of Howell's Grocery Store and Howell's Distributing Company. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Morning Star Lodge No. 27, Free and Accepted Masons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessee Emmett and Eula Vesta Noel Howell.

Survivors include two daughters, Bobbie H. Gordon of Cullman and Kay Howell Gulledge of Griffin; a son, Al Howell of Thomaston; and six grandchildren, Jim (Cindy) Gordon of Keller, Texas, Joe Gordon of Houston, Texas, Julie (Rand) Gordon Hinds of Tupelo, Miss., Ben (Laura) Bowen and Rob (Jim) Bowen, both of Charlotte, N.C., and Blake Howell of Thomaston, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Thomaston Hospice or the Juvenile Diabetes. Association.

Visitation was Friday.

Robert 'H.L.' Peak

Funeral services for Robert "H.L." Peak, 76, of Falkville will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Roundtop Community Church, the Rev. Chris Smith officiating, with Burial in Roundtop Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Peak died Friday, Jan. 2, at his residence. He was born April 9, 1927, in Cullman County to Kimsey and Alice Ward Wilson Peak. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Freewill Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Peak of Falkville; one son, Jerry E. Peak of Falkville; one daughter, Hazel Lee Carden of Hartselle; one brother, Thomas Peak of Hanceville; two sisters, Maudie Harris of Falkville and Pearlie Flippin of Cullman; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Eric Carden, Christopher Carden, Rodney Bradford, Christopher Gillespie, Jackie Wilson and Johnny Cobb.

Vera Estelle Glasscock

Funeral services for Vera Estelle Glasscock, 90, of Gardendale will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Bruce Ellard and Sherman Bailey officiating, with Burial in Duck River Cemetery

Mrs. Glasscock died Friday, Jan. 2, in Hanceville. She was born March 8, 1913, in Blount County to Hiram Little and Eliza Jane Warren.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty (Daniel) Bolden and Mary Helen Dickinson, both of Gardendale, Bobbie Bradford of Hanceville and Diane Metzger of Walter; one son, Charles Glasscock of Huntsville; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles Raymond Horton

Memorial services for Charles Raymond Horton, 81, of Holly Pond will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2003, at First Baptist Church of Holly Pond, the Rev. Tom Williams officiating, with Burial in Bushnell National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Horton died Saturday, Jan. 3, at his home. He was born July 8, 1922, in Ashland, Ky., to Thomas Virgil and Josie L. Dixon Horton. He was retired from retail sales and was a member of First Baptist Church of Holly Pond.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Horton.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Stahl Welch Horton of Holly Pond; four sons, Charles Thomas (Sandra) Horton of Jacksonville, Fla.; Wade (Sandra) Welch of Dallas; and Edward (Wanda) Welch of Holly Pond; three daughters, Drema Sue (Jerry) Bagneschi of Anchorage, Alaska; Terri (Roy) Bewley of Holly Pond; and Shari (David) Bare of Wildwood, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Catherine Horton of Atlanta; one brother, Thomas Dee Horton of Fruitland Park, Fla.; two sisters, Ruth (Robert) Goshorn of Leesburg, Fla., and Vera Mae (James) Figgatt of Lady Lake, Fla.; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
