Delbert W. 'Dobie' Hart

Funeral services for Delbert W. "Dobie" Hart, 73, of Hayden were Friday, March 5, 2004, at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home, Earnest McKinnon officiating, with Burial in Elvester Cemetery.

Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hart died Wednesday, March 3.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Hart of Hayden; a son, David (Linda) Hart of Hayden; a daughter, Jan (Debra) Elder Hart; a granddaughter, Kate Elder-Hart of Hayden; three grandsons, Robert Heath Hart, Robert William Hart and Kevin Michael Hart, all of Hayden; and two sisters, Opal Hardiman of Trafford and Eulala Lloyd of Warrior.

Visitation was March 4.

Edith Emery

Funeral services for Edith Emery, 61, of Blountsville will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Blountsville Funeral Home Chapel, Drennen Alldredge officiating, with Burial in Gibbs Chapel Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Emery died Sunday, March 14, at Medical Center Blount in Oneonta. She was born in Blount County to Fred Lee and Ada Little Emery. She was disabled. She was a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fred L. Emery; and three half-brothers, Ronnie Dickey, Gordon Emery and John Emery.

Survivors include her mother, Ada Emery of Blountsville; two sisters, Linda Martin of Hixon, Tenn., and Opal Poole of the Snead community; and two brothers, Erbie Emery and Earl Emery, both of Blountsville.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Ezra Henry

Graveside services for Ezra Henry, 91, of Crane Hill will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville.

Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Henry died Monday, March 15. He was a longtime resident of Cullman County and a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Henry.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

Elizabeth Meeks

Funeral services for Elizabeth Meeks, 68, of Gardendale will be at 9 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at Morgans at Gardendale Chapel, Billy Evans and the Rev. Steve Belcher officiating, with Burial in Eidson Chapel Cemetery.

Morgans at Gardendale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Meeks died Tuesday, March 16.

Survivors include her husband, Dalton Meeks; one son, Anthony D. Meeks; two daughters, Nancy Meeks (Neal) Shaffield and Sheila Meeks (Billy) Evans; one sister, Agness Calloway; one sister-in-law, Jessie Meeks; and five grandchildren, Justin Shaffield, Bridget Shaffield, Joshua Evans, Blake Evans and Geena Evans.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Tricie Dean Von Sas

Funeral services for Tricie Dean Von Sas, 70, of Trinity were Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Roselawn Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Wayne Dotson officiating, with Burial in Dancy Chapel Cemetery.

Roselawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Von Sas died Saturday, March 13, at her residence. She was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Morgan County to James Mac and Lou Ella Goodwin Steele. She was retired from SMR in Florida. She was a member of New Beginnings Church in Moulton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include one son, Robert (Sherri) Schrimsher of Trinity; 12 grandchildren, Vicki Schrimsher, Winnona Schrimsher, Alyenna Schrimsher, Aaron Schrimsher, Adam Schrimsher, Ashley Schrimsher, Apriel Schrimsher and Ashton Schrimsher, all of Decatur, Billy Schrimsher of Virginia, Jennifer Schrimsher and Joe Schrimsher, both of Kentucky, and Patti Pitton of Chicago; a great-grandchild, Amanda Schrimsher of California; two brothers, Bob Steel of Decatur and James Douglas Steel of Caddo; and four sisters, Jimmie Lou Golden of Cullman, Orvlene Borden of Somerville, Nellie Ruth Teichimeller and JoAnn Roman of Virginia.

Pallbearers will be Freeman Steele, Danny Golden, Jimmy Taylor, Kirt Teichimeller, Dustion Smith, Stewart Borden and Jamie Steele.

Visitation was Monday.

Bette Jane Houlditch Sawyer

Memorial services for Bette Jane Houlditch Sawyer, 80, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2004, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville, Fla.

Mrs. Sawyer died Sunday, March 14, at the E.T. York Care Center of North Central Florida in Gainesville, Fla. Mrs. Sawyer was an Alabama native, a retired adult education teacher and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainesville. Born Feb. 10, 1924, in Anniston, Mrs. Sawyer was educated in the public schools of Anniston, where she was awarded the Hypatia Cup as the outstanding female senior.

In 1944 she became a reporter for the Birmingham Age-Herald newspaper. She served as an editorial assistant for Progressive Farmer magazine, also in Birmingham, from 1945-1946.

She was assistant instructor of business writing at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa from 1948 to 1950, where she also did graduate work. She continued her graduate education at the University of Connecticut in Storrs from 1950-1951 and received a master of arts degree from the University of Florida in 1977.

From 1971 to 1975 she taught in the Laubach Literacy Tutoring program in Gainesville and served as an assistant in reading education at Santa Fe Community College from 1977 to 1979. In October 1979, she started Alachua County's IMTS Reading Lab for adults. She later taught at the Lofton Center, a high school for adults, retiring in 1990.

In retirement, Ms. Sawyer avidly pursued her avocation as a short-story writer, with several of her pieces appearing in national publications. She was also an accomplished vocal soloist and church choir member.

She was a member and past vice president of the League of Women Voters of Alachua County and a member of the Gainesville Rose Society, winning several local show awards.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Herbert A. Sawyer, professor emeritus at the University of Florida; a son, Allen Walter Sawyer of Gainesville; a daughter, Vivian Ruth Sawyer of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Vivian Houlditch Hart of Cullman; two sisters-in-law, Doris Sawyer Jimison of Englewood, Fla., and Barbara Sawyer Bradley of Albany, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the classical music program at Trinity United Methodist Church at 4000 Northwest 53rd Ave., Gainesville, Fla., or to the Hypatia Scholarship Fund at Samford University, 800 Lakeshore Dr., Birmingham, Ala. 35229.

Herbert Charles Seymore

Funeral services for Herbert Charles Seymore, 75, of Nesmith will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Nesmith Methodist Church, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Seymore died Tuesday, March 16, in Double Springs.

Survivors include four brothers, Bertis (Okelene) Seymore, Burson (Sue) Seymore, Hershel (Linda) Seymore and Jimmy (Jane) Seymore, all of Nesmith; seven nephews; three nieces; four great-nephews; and four great-nieces.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Josephine Wilborn Hudson

Graveside services for Josephine Wilborn Hudson, 71, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Keystone Heights Cemetery in Florida.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Jones Funeral Home is in charge of services in Keystone Heights, Fla.

Mrs. Hudson died Tuesday, March 16 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 12, 1932, to David A. Sr. and Bessie Mae Abner Maddox. She was a seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jessie O. Wilborn; two daughters, Kay LeBoeuf and Vicki Orr; two grandchildren, Brandy and Lawson; a brother, David A. Maddox Jr.; and a stepdaughter, Kimberly.

Survivors include two stepsons, Randy and Dale; a daughter, Deborah Mandi of Cullman; two brothers, R.C. Maddox and Edwin Maddox, both of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Pauline Wood and Christine Wood, both of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Shelly, Brandon, Ashley, Brittany and Courtney; three stepgrandchildren, Jennifer, Jason and Andrienne; and four great-grandchildren.

No visitation is planned.

Jaycee Laine Armstrong

Graveside services for Jaycee Laine Armstrong, infant, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Cemetery, Donnie Jones officiating.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born and died on Sunday, March 14 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her parents, Daniel Lee and Cutessa Graveman Armstrong of Cullman; grandparents, Terry Graveman and Carron Smith; great-grandparents, Jacqulyn Bowen, Sadie Blagg and Herman Blagg; and a brother, Austin Eugene Armstrong.

Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

J.W. McLeroy

Funeral services for J.W. McLeroy, 70, of Holly Pond will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Lavell Aires officiating, with Burial in Daniels Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. McLeroy died Tuesday, March 16 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Blount County to William and Clytie Wooten McLeroy. He was a truck driver for Tyson Foods.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Edith Ann McLeroy.

Survivors include his wife, Carol McLeroy of Holly Pond; two sons, John McLeroy of Fort Payne and Greg (Nancy) McLeroy of Holly Pond; five daughters, Rose McLeroy of Florida, Joyce (Adam) Stewart of Hanceville, Cindy (Barry) Moulder of Georgia, Vickie (Joel) Curvin of West Point and Wendy (Jacob) Swann of Simcoe; six sisters, AmyLee Jackson, Katie Bee Motte, Vernell Gilbert, Oarlee Armstrong, Mattie Pierce and Doris Hughes; 18 grandchildren, Beth Osterday, Jessica Osterday, Brandon Ringo, Amanda Ringo, Jennifer Stewart, Adam John Stewart, Jamie Ray Stewart, Jessica Stewart, Nicholas McLeroy, Tonya Garmony, Jared Thrasher, Dottie Thrasher, Jake Curvin, Matt Curvin, Sam Curvin, Hunter Curvin, Khylah McLeroy and Jaxxon Swann; five great-grandchildren, Heath Garmony, Courtney Garmony, Tyler Thrasher, Brodie Thrasher and Kaneisha Hall; and special nephew, Charles Ray Barrett.

Mrs. Sinyard died Tuesday, March 16 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born May 14, 1916, in Cullman County to William Herbert and Maude Freeman Lay. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Elderidge Campbell and Jackson Sinyard; three brothers, Allen Lay, Avron Lay and Quinton Lay; and two stepsons, Jack Sinyard Jr. and Ellis Sinyard.

Survivors include two sons, Wilbur (Flossie) Campbell and Denver (Glenda) Campbell of Cullman; a daughter, Nina (Charles) Givens of Cullman; three stepsons, Gerald Sinyard, Freddie Sinyard and Charles Sinyard; a stepdaughter, Elaine Calvert; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Givens, Larry Sinyard, Jack Sinyard, Bryan Sinyard, Chris Sinyard, Janet Campbell and Lisa Harbin; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Boney Lee Stanford

Funeral services for Boney Lee Stanford, 79, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Damascus Baptist Church, the Rev. David McDonald officiating, with Burial in Damascus Cemetery.

Mr. Stanford died Tuesday, March 16 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born May 30, 1924, in Tennessee to Edward and Holly Stanford. He was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Johnny Ray Stanford; and granddaughter, Stacy Stanford.

Survivors include his wife, Gerdileen Stanford of Cullman; two daughters, Carla Lynn (Hank) Johns of Arab and Bonnie Sue (Kenneth) Sherrill of Huntsville; a son, Ralph Lee Stanford of Cullman; a brother, Paul (Helen) Stanford of Birmingham; five grandsons, Daniel Wayne (Audra) Johns, Kenny Sherrill, Myles Sherrill, Austin Stanford and Tyler Stanford; and two granddaughters, Heather (Dave) Johnson and Casa Stanford.

Rev. Florence A. Dean

Funeral services for the Rev. Florence A. Dean, 65, of Arab will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at the Church of The Living God, Harold Carey and Harold Fowler officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

The Rev. Dean died Sunday, March 14 at her residence. She was born May 27, 1938, in Michigan to Dolphis and Eleanor Wright Dupuis. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of The Living God.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, A.E. Dean of Arab; three daughters, Tammy L Gaither and Valorie A. Dean, both of Arab and Lydia Beth Smith of Mississippi; three sisters, Ilene Thomas and Pat Taylor, both of Michigan, and Nancy Maloney of Huntsville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
