Ruby Busby Abbott Speegle

Funeral services for Ruby Busby Abbott Speegle, 88, of Bremen will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Valley Springs Baptist Church, the Revs. Wayne Williams and Dan Anderson officiating, with Burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state a half hour prior to the service.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Speegle died Friday, April 2, in a Birmingham hospital. She was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Walker County, to Joshua and Victoria Banks Busby. She was a longtime member of Valley Springs Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and father of her children, Carl Abbott; her companion and second husband, Fred Speegle; three sons, Ernest Ray Abbott, Danny Lee Abbott and an infant son; four brothers, Nubern Busby, Olen Busby, Rayburn Busby and Buell Busby; two granddaughters, Christie Payne and Kaye Abbott; and one great-granddaughter, Brandi Payne.

Survivors include three sons, Milton "Buddy" Abbott, Michael Gene Abbott and Anthony (Doris) Abbott; six daughters, Elouise (James) Bailey, Maxine (Leon) Graves, Marie (Athel) Alexander, Geneva (John) Sellers, Carol ( Paul) Payne and Oleta (the Rev. Ronnie) Clark; two sisters, Ruth Lee (George Hartpence) Avis and Mavis Chaney; 61 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kraig Alexander, Jeremy Clark, Jason Bailey, Keith Sellers, Jeff Payne and Steve Abbott.

Jewell H. Dunlap

Funeral arrangements for Jewell H. Dunlap, 94, of Enterprise, formerly of Holly Pond, are incomplete and will be announced later by the funeral home.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dunlap died Saturday, April 3, in Enterprise.

Brian Howard Eddy

Funeral services for Brian Howard Eddy, 25, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Sardis No. 2 Baptist Church in Winston County, the Rev. Floyal Rodgers officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eddy died Thursday, April 1, in Huntsville. He was born Sept. 22, 1978, in Alabama. He was a designer for Lockheed-Martin in Huntsville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Loyd Eddy; his grandparents, Jack and Lillian Sterling and Buford and Berta Eddy.

Survivors include a son, Auston; his mother and stepfather, Connie and Tim Powell; a brother, Anthony Powell; and a stepsister, Melissa (Scott) Wimberly.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Opal Gaynell Rushing

Funeral services for Opal Gaynell Rushing, 87, of Crane Hill will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, J.C. Graves and Jan Wix officiating, with Burial at Prospect Church of Christ.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rushing died Friday, April 2, at her residence. She was born July 13, 1916, in Cullman County to Issac A. and Menervia K. Knight Speegle. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dilmon Rushing, and one daughter, Joan Rushing Carter.

Survivors include one son, Keith (Kathy) Rushing of Cullman; two daughters, June Rushing of Cullman and Jenita (Doug) Kelley of Somerville; four brothers, Herman Speegle and Dorman Speegle, both of Cullman, and Duell Speegle and Ray Speegle, both of Birmingham; three sisters, Ardes Moore, Mullis Williams and Hazel Rushing, all of Cullman; four grandchildren, Greg Carter, Heath Carter, Danielle Rushing and Jason (Candy) Rushing; and one great-grandchild, Madison Rushing.

Visitation was Saturday.

Lawrence William Rohling

Funeral mass for Lawrence "Larry" W. Rohling, 88, of Florence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Florence, Fr. Andy Sullivan, Monsignor Paul Rohling and the Rev. John O'Donnell officiating, with Burial at Greenview Memorial Park. military rites will be accorded at the grave site.

Greenview Funeral Home in Florence is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rohling died Friday, April 2. He was born Feb. 10, 1916, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., to Henry and Anna Rohling.

He graduated from Father Ryan High School in Nashville, Tenn.; St. Bernard Junior College in Cullman; and St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army Air Force as an electronics repairman. He worked in radio in Columbia, Tenn., before moving to the Shoals area, where he worked as an electronic engineer/announcer for WLAY Radio, WMFT Radio and WOWL Radio. He was the chief engineer for WOWL-TV, Channel 15, having installed and maintained all of the equipment until he retired in 1989.

He had been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since 1948. He was a member of Holy Name Society, Parish Council, choir, past president of St. Joseph School PTO, the Knights of Columbus and Shoals Civitans. He was an active supporter of St. Jude Hospital and the Shoals Cerebral Palsy Telethon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Kenneth Rohling; two sisters, Gertrude Neidert and Mary Neidert; and five brothers, the Rev. Joseph Rohling; Tom Rohling, Albert Rohling, James Rohling and an infant brother.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Pearl Marie Carter Rohling; four sons, Milton (Carol) Wallace of Sonoma, Calif; Don (Eleanor) Rohling and Jerry Rohling, both of Florence; and Ricky (Marsha) Rohling of Muscle Shoals; six daughters, Ann (Tommy) Johnston of Killen; Linda (Brent) Cartee of Brentwood, Tenn.; Evelyn (Sam) Kimbrough of Russellville; and Ginger (Tom) Moreland, Dorothy (Steve) Green and Carolyn Hunt, all of Florence; one sister, Anna Catherine Rohling Joly of Tuscumbia; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Coalition of Alzheimer's and Relations Disorders, P.O. Box 1680, Florence, Ala. 35631; St. Joseph School Foundation, 115 Plum St., Florence, Ala. 35630; or St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Rohling's grandsons, Paul Wallace, Robert Rohling, Chris Rohling, Matt Rohling, Bill Johnston, Blake Johnston, Blair Johnston, Samuel Kimbrough, Lane Rohling, Jason Moreland, Tim Hunt and Josh Rohling. Honorary pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus, Jack Worley and Jim York.

Visitation will be at 6:45 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with a rosary at 8 p.m.

Odis Sivley

Funeral services for Odis Sivley, 92, of Blountsville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Mark Jones, Ennis Stone and Edward Engle officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sivley died Thursday, April 1, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Alabama to William and Edna Bell Vinson Sivley. He was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, where he was the oldest deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Odell Alldredge Sivley; four brothers; and five sisters.

Survivors include two sons, William Arlin (Sarah) Sivley and Jerry (Inez) Sivley, both of Blountsville; a daughter, Shirley (Frank) Mount of Childersburg; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Ricky Sivley, Danny Sivley, David Sivley, Greg Mount, Jonathan McKelvy and Michael Sivley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carroll Wilson and the deacons of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alton Glenn Johnson

Funeral services for Alton Glenn Johnson, 66, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Duck River Church, Sherman Bailey officiating, with Burial in Duck River Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson died Monday, April 5, at Hanceville Nursing Home. He was born Sept. 4, 1937, in Blount County.

He was preceded in death by his father, William B. Johnson.

Survivors include his mother, Ezma Loyd Johnson; a son, Mitchell Anderson of Decatur; a daughter, Michelle Urso of Florida; two brothers, Albert Johnson and Keith (Danette) Johnson of Cullman; a sister, Maxine (Gary) Ray of Vinemont; four grandchildren; one niece, five nephews; three great-nieces; and one great-nephew.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jewell Helen Dodson Dunlap

Funeral services for Jewell Helen Dodson Dunlap, 94, of Holly Pond will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Tom Williams officiating, with Burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dunlap died Saturday, April 3, at Enterprise Nursing Home. She was born May 29, 1909, in Alabama to George Washington and Maggie Olivia Gorham Dodson. She was a lunchroom manager with Holly Pond School.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eight sisters; three brothers; and her husband, Judson Hobart Dunlap.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Olivia Dunlap (Claude Louis) Bauer; a son, John Randall (Laurie Mellett) Dunlap; two grandchildren, Amy Michelle Dunlap and William Judson Dunlap; 11 nieces; and six nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Holly Pond Cemetery.

Visitation was Monday.

Maudie Bell Blackwood

Funeral services for Maudie Bell Blackwood, 72, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Cathedral of Praise, Jerry Fleming officiating, with Burial in Bethsadia Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Blackwood died Monday, April 5, at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born May 17, 1931, to Buddy and Lovie Allred Allred.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Auston Blackwood of Vinemont; six sons, Ray (Carol) Bryson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Roy Bryson of Hollywood, Fla.; Bobby Bryson of Cullman; Steve Bryson of Perry, Ga.; Mark (Karen) Blackwood of Vinemont; and Roger Blackwood of California; five daughters, Judy (Jeff) Ellis and Janet (Barry) Powe, both of Cullman; Julie Davis of Vinemont; and Sherion (Jimmy) Speegle and Carolyn Blackwood, both of Decatur; two sisters, Leola Woodard and Marie Jackson, both of Cullman; and 30 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Corine Silvey Holmes

Funeral services for Corine Silvey Holmes, 84, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. April 8, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Holmes died Sunday, April 4 at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Nov. 21, 1919, to Joseph McCaye and Susie Anna Moody Silvey. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Seventh Street Baptist Church of Cullman Preservation Committee Committee Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Smith Holmes; a son, Albert David Holmes; and her parents.

Survivors include a daughter, Joanna H. Sloan of Huntsville; a son-in-law, John Z. Sloan of Huntsville; a daughter-in-law, Shirley F. Holmes of Cullman; six grandchildren, Susie Lowe, Chris Sloan, Paul Holmes, Julianna Roeber, Deanna Johnson and Todd Holmes; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Vernon Silvey and R.B. Silvey.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Evelyn H. Tinta

Memorial services for Evelyn H. Tinta, 92, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Drs. Edwin Hayes and Bill Burkett officiating.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tinta died Sunday, April 4, at Woodland Haus Assisted Living. She was born Feb. 25, 1912, to Rufus and Ida Woodall Hood. She was an office administrator. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cullman and had been a resident at Woodland Haus for five years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John H. Tinta.

Survivors include a son, Robert E. "Gene" (Kay) Thomas Jr. of Cullman; a sister, Katheryn Highsmith of Dallas, Texas; two grandsons, Rob III (Buffy) Thomas of Snellville, Ga. and Dr. Joey (Melanie) Thomas of Marietta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Andrew Thomas, Emily Thomas, Elizabeth Thomas, Joseph Thomas Jr., Timothy Thomas and Stephen Thomas; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

W. Edward Bagley

Funeral services for W. Edward Bagley, of Hoover, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at First Baptist Church of Hoover, Dr. Earl Tew officiating, with Burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens South.

Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bagley died Monday, April 5. He was born in Brookside on Nov. 2, 1934. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Hoover. His military service was with the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean War. He attained the rank of sergeant and was a senior jumpmaster. He also served at headquarters in Ft. Campbell, Ky., and was involved in the reactivation of the 101st Airborne Division. He was retired from his own business as a manufacturer's representative.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ann Hardin Bagley; three sons, Larry (Kay) Bagley of Grove Hill, Johnny (Sheryl) Bagley of Wetumpka and Terry (Vicki) Bagley of Cullman; nine grandchildren, Melissa, Tyler and Kari Bagley of Grove Hill, Kerek and Ryan Bagley of Wetumpka, Sarah, Anna, John David and Callie Bagley of Cullman; and nine nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church in Hoover.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Keith Hoagland

Funeral services for James Keith Hoagland, 46, of Blountsville were Monday, April 5, 2004, at Blountsville Funeral Chapel, Charles Woodard and Steve Hogeland officiating, with Burial in Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Blountsville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hoagland died Saturday, April 3, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Alabama. He was an industrial welder.

He was preceded in death by his father, James L. Hoagland.

Survivors include his wife, Marie McConnell Hoagland; a son, Joshua Paul Hoagland of Cleveland; two stepsons, Greg Hood of Royal and Phil (Jennie) Hood of Gadsden; a daughter, Danon Lanille Hoagland of Cleveland; his mother and stepfather, Betty "June" Anderson Box and Edsel Box of Rosa; a brother, Steve (Teresa) Hoagland of Royal; two sisters, Helen Hoagland of Albertville and Tracy (Brad) Clifton of Sipsey; and a grandchild, Kaylie Hood.

Pallbearers were David Chastain, Charles Chastain, David Tucker, Randy Hammond, Mike Quick, Tim O'Connell and Keith Taylor.

Visitation was Monday.
