Jane Marie McCain Cooper

Funeral services for Jane Marie McCain Cooper, 61, of Birmingham will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2004, at Mt. Hope Baptist Church, Charles McCullough and Charles Johnson officiating, with Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cooper died Saturday, April 17, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. She was born Nov. 11, 1942, in Alabama to Athel and Susie Hudson McCain. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Cooper of Birmingham; two daughters, Suzanne Dillon of Hoover and Andrea Cooper of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Paul McCain of Crane Hill; two sisters, Hilda McGregor of Nashville an Martha Butts of Hanceville; and one grandson, Devin Thorne of Hoover.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Augusta Lu Sperber

Funeral services for Augusta Lu Sperber, 98, of Cullman, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2004, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Pastors Warren Ruland and Harold Hermetz officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sperber died Friday, April 16, at Woodland Village Health Care. She was born June 13, 1905, to James McNair and Paulina Harp Roden. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for years and was a member of their sewing ladies group and ladies aid group.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Conrad Michael Sperber; one daughter, Louise Barbara Danker; and one son, Paul Conrad Sperber.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Bennett of Cullman; one son-in-law, Arnold Danker of Cullman; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Visitation was Saturday.

Tom Collins

Memorial services for Tom Collins, 70, of Texas will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 2004, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station, Texas.

Earthman Funeral Directors of Houston, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Collins died Tuesday, April 13. He was born in Sour Lake, Texas. He graduated from Texas AandM University, Class of 1956, with a poultry science degree. He was in the poultry industry for more than 40 years and was an avid fisherman and gardener. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a captain.

He was preceded in death by his father, M.M. Collins; his mother, Margaret Collins; and a sister, Mary Margaret Bryant.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jan Houck Collins; two sons, Tommy Collins of Arlington, Texas and Kyle Collins of Irving, Texas; a daughter, Molly Collins-Smith of Huntsville; a brother, Joe (Pat) Collins; and a granddaughter, Samantha Collins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Dominic's Villa, 6504 Almeda Road, Houston, Texas, 77021.

Daniel Levi Sorrell Sr.

Memorial services for Daniel Levi Sorrell Sr., 66, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sorrell died Saturday, April 17, in Cullman. He was born July 5, 1937, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to Levi and Leonia Lucia Sorrell.

Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl D. (Daniel) Hayes of West Plattsburgh, N.Y.; Carol (D) Moritz of Brooklyn Park, Md.; and Kelly (Steve) Rollo of Milton, Fla.; three sons, Christopher (Suzanne) Sorrell of Pace, Fla.; Daniel (Cindy) Sorrell Jr. of Cullman; and Sam (Susie) Sorrell of Indianapolis, Ind.; two stepsons, Jeff (Beth) Fredericks of Good Hope and David (Michelle) Holland of Cullman; three sisters, Evelyn Cook, Sonya Fallows and Nona Sorrell; two brothers, Kevin Sorrell and Lee Sorrell; and 17 grandchildren.

Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Freddie Henry Wood

Funeral services for Freddie Henry Wood, 75, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Charles Johnson officiating, with Burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wood died Sunday, April 18, at at Princeton Baptist Medical Center. He was born May 9, 1928, in Cullman County to William Pinkney and Lucy Cagle Wood. He was employed by the City of Cullman in the Street Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Roy Wood Sr., Jessie Wood, Coy Wood, Oather Wood and Odis Wood; two sisters, Venis Phillips and Exie Calvert; and a grandson, Bobby Wood.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Mae Wix Wood of Cullman; two sons, Lynn Wood and Jerome (Mitzi) Wood, both of Cullman; two daughters, Sheila (Victor) Hathcoat of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and Ann (Chad) Morrison of Crane Hill; three grandsons, Jeff (Angie) Wood of Lakeland, Fla.; B.J. Wood of Cullman; and David Handley of Crane Hill; one granddaughter, Jessi Handley of Crane Hill; one great-grandson, Jack Wood of Lakeland, Fla.; one brother, Oakland (Joyce) Wood of Huntsville; and one sister, Vergie Hyatt of Addison.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Paul E. Steele

Funeral services for Paul E. Steele, 97, of Plymouth, Ind., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Ban Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, the Rev. Steven Resner officiating, with Burial in North Liberty Cemetery.

Van Gilder Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Steele died Saturday, April 17, at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth. He was born in St. Joseph County, Ind., on Aug. 25, 1906, to Lafayett and Una Cripe Steele. He was a graduate of Manchester College and was a teacher and coach in North Liberty, Ind. He was the building materials manager at Sears Roebuck in South Bend, Ind. He and his wife owned the Burr Oak Hardware Store in Burr Oak, Ind., from 1945 to 1955 and later he was employed by Orville Redenbacher in Valparaiso. He was also an agent for Farmers Mutual Insurance.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Leona M. Stouder Steele; his parents; his brother, Grant Steele of North Liberty, Ind.; his sister, Helen Bricker of South Bend, Ind.; a grandson, Brian; and his daughter-in-law, Doris.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Victoria) Steele of West Seneca, N.Y., and Richard (Carol) Steele of Cullman; one sister, Mary Vaughn of South Bend, Ind.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made at the choice of the donor.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Van Gilder Funeral Home.

John D. Stewart

Funeral services for John D. Stewart, 72, of Bremen will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Home, the Revs. Clint Moon and Ricky Moon and Patrick Watson officiating, with Burial in Shelton Grove Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stewart died Monday, April 19, in Bremen. He was born in Cullman County on Aug. 3, 1931, to Dixon and Rosie Pugh Stewart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Junior Stewart; and sons-in-law, Phillip Watson and Mike Starnes.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Stewart; three daughters, Lynn (Rocky) Dillard, Shelby (Ricky) Moon and Cathy Watson, all of Bremen; seven grandchildren, Patrick, Clint, Cindy, Chris, Sara, Kenneth and Jeremy; and six great-grandchildren, Heaven, Haven, Hannah, Zoe and Kenneth.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Raymond Eskirn Hunt

Funeral services for Raymond Eskirn Hunt, 70, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at New Prospect Baptist Church, Marvin Clemmons officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hunt died Monday, April 19, at Woodland Medical Center. He was born May 16, 1933, in Alabama to Jay and Mary Pugh Hunt. He was a supervisor for Edsco Industries.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maggie Hunt; and two brothers, Earvin and Doyle Hunt.

Survivors include his wife, Mable Agnes Hunt; three sisters, Lillie Mae Lee, Nellie Fines and Ruth Wise; and four brothers, Harvey Hunt, Loyce Hunt, Jimmy Hunt and Junior Hunt.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Audrey Estelle Norman Nuss Sticher

Funeral services for Audrey Estelle Norman Nuss Sticher, 91, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2004, at Moss Service Chapel, Millard Mann and Randy Sellers officiating, with Burial in Welti Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sticher died Monday, April 19, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 29, 1912, to Oliver Dale and Hattie Pearl Hamm Norman. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leopal M. Nuss; her second husband, Wily L. Sticher; two sisters, Nollie Bell Norman Davis, Susie Norman Marty and Sybil Norman Cary; and a brother, Horace Hope Norman.

Survivors include a son, Bryce Edwin (Jeri McClinton) Nuss Sr.; a daughter, Gayle Nuss (Joe) Fine; a sister, Betty Norman Glasscock; six grandchildren, Robbie Madison Nuss, Leigh Marcus Nuss, Joseph Craig Fine, Bryce Edwin Nuss Jr., Jeri Regina Nuss and Clark Dale Fine; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Marlon R. Waldrep

Funeral services for Marlon R. Waldrep, 42, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, with Burial in New Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Waldrep died Monday, April 19, at his residence. He was born April 28, 1961, to Hershel M. and Charlsie Wix Waldrep. He was a landscaper.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Waldrep of Hanceville; a son, Marlon H. Waldrep of Baileyton; two brothers, Terry Waldrep and Ronnie Waldrep, both of Cullman; two sisters, Judy Hall of Cullman and Karen Day of Decatur; eight nieces; and five nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Lois Ann Lewis

Funeral services for Lois Ann Lewis, 71, of Fayetteville, Tenn. will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Manchester Funeral Home, Mark Massey officiating, with Burial in Morrison Cemetery.

Manchester Funeral Home in Manchester, Tenn. is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lewis died Saturday, April 17, at her residence. She was born July 25, 1932, in Morrison, Tenn. She was a member of West Fayetville Church of Christ. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Col. Wiley and Ophia Edwards Frazier; a great-granddaughter, Amaya Schrimsher; and three brothers, Elbert, Travis and Walter Frazier.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Lewis of Fayetville, Tenn.; four children, John Robert Lewis of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; Judy (Darrell) Hageman of Pulaski, Tenn.; Deborah Lewis of Nashville, Tenn.; and Phyllis Reeves of Fayetteville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith Duncan of Manchester; and two brothers, Arless Frazier and Harold (Virginia) Frazier, both of Peoria, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

W.T. 'Bill' Ryder

Funeral services for W.T. "Bill" Ryder, 67, of Cullman will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel.

Mr. Ryder died Thursday, April 22, in Cullman. He was born May 5, 1936, to Floyd Jefferson and Jewel Chochran Ryder. He was an accountant.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Mercer Ryder of Cullman; two sons, Rhett Ryder of Cullman and Tom (Tammy) Ryder of Birmingham; a daughter, Renee (Rick) Lovett of Cullman; a brother, Carlton (Carolyn) Ryder of Vance; and seven grandchildren, Nathaniel Ryder, Jacob "J.T." Ryder, Alan Lovett, Steven Lovett, Ryan Lovett, Zac Lovett and Hannah Lovett.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to one's favorite charity in Bill Ryder's name.

Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. today.

Myrtle Irene Willoughby

Funeral services for Myrtle Irene Willoughby, 99, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Cold Springs Baptist Church, the Revs. Wayne Williams and Randy Moon officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Willoughby died Thursday, April 22, at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 2, 1905, to James and Missouri York Harding. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ollie Lee Willoughby; a son, Onvie Willoughby; a daughter, Callie Ann Willoughby; a daughter-in-law, Christine Willoughby; three brothers, Albert, Robert and Warren Harding; and three sisters, Maude Parker, Minnie Willoughby and Verla Parker.

Survivors include four sons, James Marvin (Clytee) Willoughby, George Moye (Annette) Willoughby, Billy Jack (Mildred) Willoughby and Donald Nelson (Rebecca) Willoughby; three sisters, Claudia Stricklin, Opal Calvert and Ellen Cates; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth, Randy, Joe, Byron, David and Donald "Bud" Willoughby.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
