Irene E. Rhoads

Graveside services for Irene E. Rhoads, 95, of Hanceville will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Chesapeake, Va.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rhoads died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born March 21, 1909, to Albert A. and Margaret Ann Hanley Carpenter. She was a nurse.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Glen (Nita) Rhoads and Jerry Rhoads; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Casper 'Gus' Gross

Funeral services for Casper "Gus" Gross, 69, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Samuel Tucker and Jim Butts officiating, with Burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He died May 6 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 31, 1935, the son of Dr. Charles and Christine Teichmiller Gross. He was a machinist at Parker Haniffin.

He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He graduated from Cullman High School in 1954 and from St. Bernard College in 1972. He retired from Parker Haniffin in October 2003 after 29 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Irene T. Gross of Cullman; a son, Michael Gross of Cullman; a daughter, Lisa (Don) Bates of Madison; three brothers, Tom (Bonny) Gross, Buford (Jane) Gross and Perry (Teresa) Gross; five sisters, Catherine (Dusty) Miller, Rachel (Theodore) Schafer, Imogene (Raymond) Heatherly, Christine (Mike) Livingston and Barbara Harper; three grandchildren, Trey Bates, Gage Bates and Sidney Bates, all of Madison.

Visitation was Friday.

Alesia Chandler Cupp

Funeral services for Alesia Chandler Cupp, 79, of Cullman will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Fred Moehring officiating, with Burial in Good Hope Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died May 6 at Windsor House Nursing Home of Huntsville. She was born Feb. 9, 1925, the daughter of Ernest and Lillie Mae Tucker Chandler. She was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Roy Cupp.

Survivors include three sons, Steve (Barbara) Cupp, Mike (Susan) Cupp and Jeff (Melanie) Cupp, all of Cullman; four daughters, Linda (Dan) Dodson of Huntsville, Kay (Ben) Klugh of Little Rock, Ark., Pam McWilliams of Downingtown, Pa., and Cecille (Bobby) Cooper of Columbus, Ga.; a brother, D.W. "Sonny" Chandler of Cullman; two sisters, Carolyn Murphree and Ann Smith, both of Cullman; nine grandchildren, Bryan Cupp, Brandy West, Rachel Dodson, Becky Dodson, Dustin Cooper, Brant Cooper, Tyler Cooper, Haley Cooper and Alesia Cupp; and a great-grandson, Chandler West.

Visitation was Friday.

Gary Paul Hamilton

Funeral services for Gary Paul Hamilton, 46, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison, with Burial in Friendship Cemetery in Addison.

Nichols Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He died May 6 in Houston, Ala. He was born June 13, 1957, in Decatur.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Mae Hamilton; two daughters, Ashley Dian Hamilton and Jenny Katheryne Steele; his mother, Jewell Parker; four brothers, Donnie Hamilton, Wayne Hamilton, Larry Hamilton and Ricky Hamilton; two sisters, Joyce Alexander and Nelie Lewis; and four grandchildren, Randall Heath, Lily Hope, Destiny Lynn and Ross Hayden.

Visitation was Friday.

Russell Uranus England

Funeral services for Russell Uranus England, 52, of Houston, Ala., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at New Home Baptist Church in Moreland, with Burial in Pine Torch Cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home of Addison was in charge of arrangements.

He died May 6 in Houston. He was born Jan. 20, 1952, in Moulton.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Randall England.

Survivors include his wife, Doris England; two daughters, Lynn Cagle and Sherry Everrett; three brothers, Jimmy England, Tommy England and Roy England; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five nephews.

Visitation was Friday.

Raymond Eugene Burton

Services for Raymond Eugene Burton, 57, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, NMay 15, 2004, at Cullman Memory Gardfens Mausoleum Chapel, Roger Pierce officiating with Burial in Cullman Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He died May 5 at Woodland Medical Center. He was born March 28, 1947, the son of Jesse Lee and Darlene G. Shepherd Burton. He was a member of VFW and the Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in deah by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce M. Taylor Burton of Cullman; a stepson, William Skinner of Cullman; two daughters, DeDe Merrow of Glenrock, Wyo., and Jennifer Escarsega of Casper, Wyo.; two brothers, Wayne Burton of Vista, Calif., and Eddie Burton oif Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Diane Conley of Lovell, Wyo.; eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be delivered to Cullman Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel on Saturday, May 15, pror to the service.

No visitation is planned.

Eura Marie Hardin

Graveside services for Eura Marie Hardin, 94, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2004, at Cullman Memory Gardens, Mark Mayo officiating.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died May 7 at Hartselle Medical Center. She was born Sept. 30, 1909, in Morgan County. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Nora Holmes Hardin; her husband, Olen Bryan Hardin; four brothers, Utra Hardin, Idus Hardin, Robert C. Hardin and Milton Hardin; a sister, Bannie Reeder; a granddaughter, Susan Hardin; two great-grandsons, Bryan Hardin and Jeremy Hardin; a great-great-grandson, Walter Gable; and a daughter-in-law, Ima Jean Hardin.

Survivors include three sons, Olen N. (Margaret) Hardin and Gerald Hardin, both of Cullman, and Harold L. (Jesse) Hardin of Rainbow City; a brother, Robert (Lois) Hardin of Plant City, Fla.; a sister, Lanora A. Burke of Cullman; three grandsons, Ronald Hardin, Thomas Hardin and Joseph Hardin; four granddaughters, Lavonda Hughs, Cindy Osborne, Paula Barnett, Anna Thompson; six great-grandsons, Brad Hardin, Beau Hardin, Ben Hardin, Gary Hardin, Matthew Osborne, Wesley Still; six great-granddaughters, Sheila Leoffler, Susan Hardin, Karli Thompson, Courtney Thompson, Susanne Osborne, Lashane Gable; one great-great-grandson, Bryant Osborne; five great-great-granddaughters, Halee Leoffler, Kamryn Leoffler, Kaitlynn Gable, Alana Osborne, Cheyenne Walraven.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice.

Mary Lee Collins Guthrie

Services for Mary Lee Collins Guthrie, 88, of Cullman County will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2004, at Emeus Baptist Church, the Rev. Greg Aldridge officiating, with Burial in Emeus Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died May 8 at her home. She was born Jan. 4, 1916. She was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustavous and Cokie Arelia Lynch Collins; her husband, Jewell Guthrie; a sister, Ossie Smith; seven brothers, Colie, Odis, Jim, John, Pinkney, Albert and Otto Collins; and a son-in-law, Bobby Rusk.

Survivors include two daughters, Shelby (George) Jacobs and Betty Rusk; three grandchildren, Ronda (Devern) Stucky, Jackie (Tim) Rutherford and Greg Rusk; seven great-grandchildren, Adam Stucky, Scott Rutherford, Chad Rutherford, Brooke Rutherford, Will Rusk, Whitney Rusk, Laura (Josh) Delamont; and one great-great-grandchild, Madison Delamont.

Visitation was Saturday.

Richard Alaniz

Services for Richard Alaniz, 75, of Addison will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Sardis Baptist Church in Addison, with Burial in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home of Addison is in charge of arrangements.

He died May 7 in Addison. He was born June 24, 1928, in Dallas, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reynaldo and Thomasa Alaniz; a daughter, Joyce Nelson; and a sister, Dora Alaniz.

He is survived by his wife, Zeta Mae Alaniz; three sons, Henry Ricardo Alaniz, Arthur Lee Alaniz and Michael Anthony Alaniz; a daughter, Ethel James; four brothers, Fred, Ruben, Henry and David Araniz; four sisters, Irene, Alice, Gloria and Oralia Alaniz; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Winnie Mae Smith Reynolds

Funeral services for Winnie Mae Smith Reynolds, 89, of Cullman were Monday, May 10, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Curtis Cochran officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reynolds died Tuesday, May 4 at Ivy Hill Health and Retirement. She was born June 26, 1914, in Cullman to Russell Jones and Savannah Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of East Side Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, W.J. Reynolds; four brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Sybil (Keaton) Taylor of Alexandria, Va., Jane (Mack) Hankey of Cleveland, S.C. and Judy (Niles) Nordquist of Escondido, Calif.; a sister, Eileen Roper of Cullman; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Sunday.

Bertie Lou Thomas

Funeral services for Bertie Lou Thomas, 69, of Baileyton are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the funeral home.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thomas died Monday, May 10, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of Hulen F. Thomas of Baileyton.

Mary Ethellene Almon

Funeral services for Mary Ethellene Almon, 82, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Bradley McDonald officiating, with Burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Almon died Sunday, May 9, at her residence. She was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Cullman to William N. and Arlevia Baker Barker. She was a teacher for Fairview School and the Cullman County School System. She attended Cullman College and Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina. She taught school for 28 years and four years at Mt. Holly in North Carolina. She taught a year at Hanceville and 23 years at Fairview. She was a a member of Unity Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Jo Almon; and a sister, Lillie Mae Barker.

Survivors include a host of friends.

Visitation was Monday.

Bessie Mitchell Wright

Funeral services for Bessie Mitchell Wright, 90, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Tommy Graves and Clifford Mitchell officiating, with Burial in New Hope No. 2 Cemetery.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wright went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 9. She died at Cullman Long Term Care. She was born on Feb. 23, 1914, in Cullman to John H. and Adal Anderson Mitchell. She was a homemaker and a member of Brickyard Baptist Church for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Paul Karl Wright.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth E. Harper of Holly Pond and James (Karyle) Harper of Gadsden; three grandchildren, James R. Harper Jr., Deanna Moody and Kem Eliopoulus; a brother, George Mitchell of Guntersville; three sisters, Betty Burden of Baileyton, Peggy Noles of Arab and Ann Talley of Cullman; a sister-in-law, Jean Mitchell; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Bertie Lou Thomas

Funeral services for Bertie Lou Thomas, 69, of Baileyton will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Lonnie Skinner officiating, with Burial in Welcome Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thomas died Monday, May 10, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 10, 1934, in Cullman County to Noah and Bertha Self Bryant. She was a homemaker. She and her husband, Hulen Thomas, were married on March 17, 1953, and just celebrated 51 years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Leola Franklin and Lorene Nunn.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Gary Thomas, Danny Thomas, David (Sandy) Thomas and Ricky (Sonya) Thomas; three daughters, Debbie (Ronnie) Bright, Kathy (Michael) Smith and Linda (Craig) Chapman; a brother, James "Mel" Bryant; two sisters, Johnnie McElroy and Sandra York; 14 grandchildren, Brandy (Jason) Glover, Jeff Shumate, Matthew Bright, Wes Smith, Wade Smith, Natasha Thomas, Nathan Thomas, Desiree Thomas, Miranda Edge, Matt Edge, Amber Thomas, Caleb Chapman, Lindsey Chapman and Haley Chapman; and two great-grandchildren, Katie Glover and Jacob Glover.

Pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Ronnie Bright, Craig Chapman, Jason Glover, Michael Ryan and Lynn Shumate.

Visitation was Tuesday.
