Pauline 'Polly' McConnell

Funeral services for Pauline "Polly" McConnell, 74, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Dr. Ed Hayes officiating. A second service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ramah Baptist Church in Leoma, Tenn., with Burial in Center Point Cemetery in Leoma.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McConnell died Friday, June 4, 2004, in Remlap. She was born Aug. 24, 1929, in Lawrence County, Tenn., to Paris Patrick and Lila Ioma Dendy Norwood. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cullman for 32 years and assisted with the two-year-olds preschool Sunday School class for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. McConnell.

Survivors include one son, Don (Pat) McConnell of Remlap; two daughters, Retha (Larry) Peters of Acworth, Ga., and Renee (Tim) Simmons of Arab; seven grandchildren, Troy (Andrea) McConnell, Brad (Jenny) McConnell, Melisa (Scott) Fortson, Justin Peters, Heather Simmons, Laura (Jamie) Champion and John Keel; five great-grandchildren, Will Fortson, Ben Fortson, Daniel Champion, Emily Champion and Emma McConnell; special friend, Jeremy Greer; one brother, Bobby Norwood of Five Point, Tenn.; and four sisters, Mildred McConnell and Winnie Sewell, both of Leoma, Tenn.; Ruth Weathers of Loretta, Tenn.; and Geneva Norwood of Five Points, Tenn.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Douglas Frank Taylor

Funeral services for Douglas Frank Taylor, 27, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Welcome Baptist Church, the Rev. Jerry Lake officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Taylor died Sunday, June 6 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Sept. 6, 1976, in Cullman. He was a lineman for Cullman Electric Company, a member of Cullman Elks Lodge and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Taylor.

Survivors include his mother, Reba Randolph Taylor of Cullman; his wife, Carie Taylor of Cullman; a daughter, Abbigail Faith Taylor of Cullman; two sisters, Paula (Bobby) Locke of Cullman and Debbie Wright of Arab; two nieces, Kristin Locke and Savannah Wright; and a nephew, Alex Locke.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today.

Charles Leroy Pope

Funeral services for Charles Leroy Pope, 79, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Mt. Grove Church, the Rev. Gary Sartain officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pope died Sunday, June 6 at his residence. He was born Oct. 27, 1924, at his home in Cullman County to Author Leroy and Alice Gorman Pope. He was a truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jearline Pope Harrell; and a brother, Joseph Pope.

Survivors include his wife, Dovie J. Crawford Pope of Hanceville; two sons, Danny Pope and Terry (Carolyn) Pope, both of Hanceville; four daughters, Charlotte (Sonny) Millican, Diane (Jerry) Crocker, Susie (Danny) Crocker and Carol (Randy) Phillips, all of Hanceville; two brothers, Olen Pope and Danny Pope; three sisters, Peggy Cosper, Pauline Coots and Nelda Garmon; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Mignon E. Cummings Kilpatrick

Funeral services for Mignon E. Cummings Kilpatrick, 82, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Jim Abbott officiating, with Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kilpatrick died Saturday, June 5 at Cullman Medical Center. She was born March 16, 1922, to Meg and Bertha Robertson Cummings. She was a retired dietitian from Cullman Regional Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Kilpatrick; two sons, Robert Kilpatrick and Larry Kilpatrick; and her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis (June) Kilpatrick and Paul Kilpatrick, both of Cullman; three daughters, Shirley Kilpatrick and Linda (Steve) Lee, both of Cullman, and Margaret (Damon) Pope of Vinemont; nine grandchildren, Travis Pope, Sherry Hill, Brian Kilpatrick, Robyn Kilpatrick, Larry Kilpatrick, Amanda Lee, Meagan Lee, Dade Kilpatrick and Shauna Kilpatrick; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday.

Harold Warner Shadinger

Funeral services for Harold Warner Shadinger, 83, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Welti Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Howard Rodgers and Ray Latham officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shadinger died Sunday, June 6 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Cullman County to Andrew Jackson Shadinger and Mila Hembree Shadinger. He was the water treatment plant operator for the city of Cullman. Mr. Shadinger was a founding member of the Cullman County D.A.V. chapter 76 in Cullman; a commander from 2001-2004 and held positions in other capacities in the D.A.V. He was a disabled Army veteran from World War II. Mr. Shadinger was known for his love for his family and friends. He enjoyed gardening and sports, especially the Atlanta Braves. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, concern for others and the love of his country. Mr. Shadinger was of the Cumberland Presbyterian faith. He was an active member of both Welti Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Baldwin Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Homer Shadinger; and a sister, Oralee Shadinger.

Survivors include his wife, Ada Buchanan Shadinger of Cullman; two daughters, Rhonda (Joel) Nichols and Karen Shadinger Houston of Birmingham; a brother, Herbert Shadinger of Albertville; a grandchild, Jeremy C. Nichols; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Visitation was Monday.

Robert Andrew South

Funeral services for Robert Andrew South, 22, of Anniston, formerly of Eva, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Peck Funeral Chapel, with Burial in Lawrence Cove Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. South died Sunday, June 6 in Oxford as the result of an automobile accident. He was born April 15, 1982, in Morgan County. He attended A.P. Brewer High School and was the foreman of maintenance at Cider Ridge Golf Course in Oxford.

Survivors include his fiancee, Nikole Peebles of Anniston; his parents, Carol and Anthony South of Eva; a sister, Andrea Cameron and husband Tony of Lacey's Spring; a niece, Kelsey Marie Cameron; and grandparents, Gail Childers and the late Birlen Childers and Dollie South and the late Frank South, all of Eva.

Pallbearers will be Jon Morgan, Richard George, Jeremy George, Tyler Childers, Eric Smith and Max Brown.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ona Walls

Funeral services for Ona Walls, 79, of Cullman will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Peck Funeral Chapel, Roger Jackson officiating, with Burial in Antioch Cemetery in Somerville.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walls died Sunday, June 6 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Helen D. Learn

Helen D. Learn, 80, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Indiana Regional Medical Center in Indiana, Pa.

She was born Feb. 14, 1924, to Joseph and Julia Pavlici Danko in Derry Twp., Westmoreland Co., Pa.

Mrs. Learn was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Indiana, Pa.

She was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are her husband, Clyde L. Learn of Indiana, whom she married Nov. 4, 1947; four daughters, Marie Roth of Natrona Heights, Delores Douglass and husband John of Indiana, Bonnie Gormisky and husband Paulo of Boston, Mass., Sally Helton and husband Jeffrey of Holly Pond, Ala.; five grandchildren, Greg Douglass, Brenda Douglass, Jon Helton, Joshua Helton, Lacie Hutcherson; two sisters, Margaret Arbore and husband, Peter Paul of Latrobe and Sue Tierno of Derry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jacob Helton; her son-in-law, Louis Roth; a sister, Anna Harr; and three brothers, Michael, John and George Danko.

Friends were received on Monday at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home in Indiana, Pa. They will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Indiana, Pa. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Indiana, Pa., the Rev. George Porter officiating. Interment will be made at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 400 Luray Ave., Johnstown, Pa., 15904 or to the American Cancer Society, 879 Hospital Road, Indiana, Pa., 15701.

William 'Billy' Virgil Kinney

Funeral services for William "Billy" Virgil Kinney, 71, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, Donald Abbott and Guy Moore officiating, with Burial in Pawnee Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kinney died Monday, June 7, in Birmingham. He was born in Pendergrass, Ga. on June 4, 1933, the son of Virgil and Emma Kinney. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 in the Mobile Construction Battalion No. 5 in the Philippines.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Kinney; a son, William V. Kinney Jr.; and a daughter, Faye Gaddis.

Survivors include a son, Tommy (Staci) Kinney of Cullman; three grandchildren, Brandon Kinney and Lauryn Kinney, both of Cullman, and Jeffrey Gaddis of Helena; a sister, Betty Sue (Bobby) Guthrie of Pawnee; and three brothers, W.J. Kinney of Pheonix, Ariz., andJudson Briggs and Harlan Briggs, both of Pinson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jean Yvonne Carden

Funeral services for Jean Yvonne Carden, 65, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, at First Baptist Church of Fairview, the Rev. Horace Hall, Ed Robertson and David Chambers officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Carden died Monday, June 7, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 10, 1938, in Cullman County to Isom and Zula Peppers Akin. She was a retired family service coordinator for Community Action Services and Head Start Programs. She was a discipleship teacher and also a member of the WMU of First Baptist Church of Fairview.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy and Bertha Akin; and two brothers-in-law, Zollie Talley and Pete Hardman.

Survivors include her husband, Marlie Gene Carden of Cullman; three sons, Rodney Carden, Barry (DeeDee) Carden and Tony (Felicia) Carden, all of Cullman; a daughter, Vicki (Jason) Wampler of Madison; three sisters, Elsie (Karie) Yancy, Patsy (Bill) Hendrix and Jeanette Talley; eight grandchildren, Tanner and Gavon Carden, Austin Carden, Makenzie, Isom and Rachel Carden, Elijah and Alison Wampler.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to FBC Fairview Building Fund at 1022 Welcome Road, Cullman, Ala. 35058, Attn: Carden Family.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Joseph M. Veigl

Funeral services for Joseph M. Veigl, 79, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with Burial in the Catholic Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Veigl died Tuesday, June 8 at his residence.

Wallace H. Gordon

Funeral services for Wallace H. Gordon, 85, of Porterville, Miss. will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, the Revs. Jeff Ingle and Doug Stokes officiating, with Burial in Cedar Tree Cemetery in Hackleburg.

Barham Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Gordon died Sunday, June 6, at Rush Foundation Hospital. He was a retired Alabama state trooper after serving 24 years. He worked for Nicholson File in Cullman after retiring. He was a World War II veteran, having served in Pacific with the U.S. Air Force. He attended Harvest Time Church in Kemper County.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Gordon; a sister, Edith Colquitte; two brothers, Russell and Robert L. Gordon; and his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Keeton Gordon of Porterville, Miss.; seven children, Jean (Ray) Riffe of Beaver, W.V., Gail (John) Fruitger of Cullman, Lena (Mike) McRae of Ocala, Fla., Gladys (A.J.) Cook and R.G. Jr. (Cathye) Keeton, both of Meridian, Miss., Jerry (Becky) Keeton of Porterville, Miss. and Lynn (Peter Dial) Burnett of Emelle; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bennie (Leroy) Durden, Christine Gordon and Helen Parker, all of Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Judes Research Hospital.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Nichol's Funeral Home in Haleyville.

Larry England

Funeral services for Larry England, 70, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Tim Aris officiating, with Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mr. England died Tuesday, June 8, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born March 3, 1934, in Cullman County to James Jahu and Velma Sinyard England. He was a senior operator for Monsanto and a member of the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include the mother of Andy and Richie England: Jane England; two sons, Andy (Lynnette) England of Birmingham and Richie (Tandy) England of Hartselle; a brother, Huey England of Cullman; two sisters, Celia (Tom) Caudle of Vinemont and Wilma (Jack) Manuel of Butler, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Jaydon and Micah England.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Barbara Sherrill Weaver

Graveside services for Barbara Sherrill Weaver, 46, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Cemetery, Steve Rodgers officiating.
