Carmen Nicole McAnnally Martinez

Funeral services for Carmen Nicole McAnnally Martinez, 29, of Garden City will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, Barbara Trussell and Keith Gambill officiating, with Burial in Garden City Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martinez passed away on Saturday, July 3. She was born on July 7, 1974, in Shelby County to David McAnnally and Norma Hosmer.

She is survived by three sons, Antonio Martinez, David McAnnally and Enrique Martinez, all of Warrior; her parents, David McAnnally of Garden City and Norma Snow of Warrior; two sisters, Terra Beasley of Dora and Nancy Crow of Chipley, Fla.; and the father of her children, JosÚ Martinez of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Hubert Max Brown Jr.

Funeral services for Hubert Max Brown Jr., 63, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, with Burial in Falkville City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brown died Monday, July 5, at his residence. He was born Aug. 25, 1940, to Hubert Max Sr. and Opal Griffin Brown. He was an accountant. He was a graduate of Cullman High School. He received a degree from Florence State College and was a practicing accountant for 40 years, most of those as a partner of Butler and Brown Associates. Max was a member of St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church and served as treasurer for several years. He also served on the board of the Cullman Regional Medical Center Foundation, Cullman-Morgan Counties Water Board and the East Cullman Water System Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a brother, Charlie Brown of Cullman; two sisters, Peggy (Charles) Ryan of Hanceville and Freda (David) Johnson of Huntsville; a large extended family; and numerous life-long friends and associates.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cullman Regional Medical Center Foundation at P.O. Box 1108, Cullman, Ala. 35056.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Lillie B. Geronimo

Funeral services for Lillie B. Geronimo, 91, of Birmingham will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Steve Rodgers and Billy Smothers officiating, with Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Tuesday, July 6, in Birmingham.

Lester Samantha Givens

Funeral services for Lester Samantha Givens, 92, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, Delwin Kilgo officiating, with Burial in New Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Givens died Wednesday, July 7, at her residence.

Jimmie Lou Calvert

Funeral services for Jimmie Lou Calvert, 74, of Crane Hill will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Andrew Ball and Frank Butts officiating, with Burial in Calvert Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Calvert died Wednesday, July 7, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Jan. 30, 1930, in Cullman County. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Sarah Bee Addison Clingan; her husband, Everett Calvert; two sons, Teddy Michael Calvert and Everett Calvert Jr.; and a brother, Sonny Clingan.

Survivors include three sons, William (Hilda) Calvert, Frank (Flo) Calvert and Dennis (Lisa) Calvert of Cullman; a daughter, Joyce (Craig) McConnell of Cullman; a brother, Norman Clingan of Cullman; four sisters, Mert (J.V.) Shelton of Bremen, Juanita Jernigan of Florida, Margie Adams of Cullman and Betty Stanfield of Cherokee; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Scotty) Arrington, Clifford Calvert, Christi (Anthony) Hamby, Lisa Calvert, Amanda Calvert, Becky (Jonathon) Nail, Windi (Chris) Garrett, Dennis Calvert II and Daniel Calvert; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday.

Alice Levada Stricklin

Funeral services for Alice Levada Stricklin, 83, of Bremen will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Addington Chapel Church, Darrell Mosley and Manuel Stricklin officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stricklin died Thursday, July 8 at Falkville Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 2, 1920, to Tommy and Lizzie Mosley Ogletree. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Coil Edward Stricklin Sr.; her parents; a granddaughter, Linda Marie Gibbs; two great-grandsons, David and Nathan Gibbs; two sisters, Stella Smith and Bertha Hogeland.

Survivors include two sons, Coil Edward (Joan) Stricklin Jr. and Manuel (Vera) Stricklin; three brothers, Robert, Bishop and Lawton Ogletree; two sisters, Ethel Reed and Lila Wilson; five grandchildren, Cindee Standridge, Rodney (Lourina) Stricklin, Ted Stricklin, Manuel (Ramona) Stricklin II and Jason Stricklin; and six great-grandchildren, Brittany, Amanda, Courtney, Dallas, Levi and Carli Stricklin.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Norman Lee Powell

A memorial service for Norman Lee Powell, 65, of Hanceville will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Pastor Warren Ruland officiating, with Burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Mr. Powell died Thursday, July 8, at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Jimmie Allan Sullivan

Alma Lou Reed

Espy Scott Privett

Funeral services for Espy Scott Privett, 96, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2004, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Addison with Burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The body will lie in state an hour prior to the service.

Mr. Privett died Saturday, July 10, in Cullman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Privett, and his parents, John David and Jessie Pearl Privett.

He is survived by two sons, Teddy Leo Privett and Freddy Cleo Privett, both of Addison; four daughters, Marcey Laseter and Willa Jo Carter, both of Cullman, and Kathy Williamson and Carol Echols, both of Addison; two brothers, Luther Privett of Cullman and Oral Privett of Addison; five sisters, Evie Hood of Addison, Lois Privett of Cullman, Lena Walden of Addison, Lorene Laseter of Glenco and Dean Steely of Birmingham; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Dr. Bob G. Guthery

Funeral services for Dr. Bob G. Guthery, 69, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Kevin McGrath officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He died Monday, July 12 in Huntsville. He was born Feb. 25, 1935.

Dr. Guthery attended Logan School and Cullman High School before graduating from Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas. He earned his bachelor's degree in biology from Saint Bernard College in 1957, his master of science degree in biology from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 1963, and his doctorate from Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., in 1986. During this time he taught at Fairview High School 1958-'63, teaching biology and chemistry, and was assistant principal at Cullman High School.

From 1969 to 1973 he owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Cullman with his wife, Virginia.

Dr. Guthery was employed at Wallace State College from 1969 to 1993 as an instructor of zoology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology and as director of allied health programs. He was the academic dean at Wallace State College from 1981 to 1993.

Dr. Guthery was instrumental in the establishment and accreditation of the Registered Nursing, Physical Therapy Assistant, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Lab and other programs at Wallace State as well as getting the Southern Association accreditation of the college. After retirement from a full-time position at Wallace State in 1993, he continued to work part-time through 1996.

Dr. Guthery served as president of the Cullman City Teachers Association. He organized the Rotary-sponsored Interact Club at Cullman High School. He was selected Outstanding Rotarian in 1962. He served six years in the 117th Unit of the Air National Guard and also served on the Board of Directors of North Alabama Emergency Services for a number of years.

Dr. Guthery was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mexie Turner Guthery, and a brother, Juby Guthery.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ann Guthery of Cullman; two daughters, Jennifer Leigh Guthery and Julie Marie (Jason) Kelly, both of Cullman; a sister-in-law, Mary Glenn Guthery of Cullman; three grandchildren, John-Jackson Guthery, Della Ann Kelly and Benjamin Michael Kelly, all of Cullman; an aunt, Myrtle Kligo of Logan; numerous cousins; and three nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hospice organization of your choice.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.

Kenneth Earl Deskins

Funeral services for Kenneth Earl Deskins, 75, of Hanceville were Monday, July 12, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Chapel, Brothers Gray and Steven Todd officiating, with Burial in Livingston Chapel at Hanceville.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Deskins died Saturday, July 10 at his residence.

Maria Stella Passalacqua

Funeral services for Maria Stella Passalacqua, 47, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Warren Ruland officiating, with Burial in Good Hope Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Ms. Passalacqua died Saturday, July 10 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 7, 1956, in Detroit, Mich. She was the drivers license clerk for Cullman County Probate Office.

She was preceded in death by her father, Giovanne Passalacqua.

Survivors include her fiancÚ, Stephen Farr; her mother, Julia Moldenhauer Passalacqua; a son, Joseph (Tania Stancil) Short; a daughter, Sarah Short (Troy) Hasting; two brothers, Bart (Tonya) Passalacqua and Joseph (Roz) Passalacqua; a grandchild, Hunter Hasting; and special friends, Shannon Horton, Sheena Farr and Seth Farr.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Bobbie Jo Martin

Funeral services for Bobbie Jo Martin, 73, of Garden City will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Garden City First Baptist Church, the Rev. Keith Gambill officiating, with Burial in Garden City Cemetery. The body will lie in state two hours prior to the service.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martin died Monday, July 12 in Cullman. She was born in Cullman County on March 17, 1931, to George and Glennie Millican Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Ruby Fay Knighten and Opal Fay Boone.

Survivors include three daughters, Teresa (Paul) Goodwin of Garden City, Rhonda (Woody) Brooks and Cindy (Richard) Burroughs, both of Hanceville; a son, James Daniel (Sharon) Martin of Hanceville; eight grandchildren, Jamie Pair and Megan and Haley Burroughs, all of Hanceville, Katie Mitchell of Huntsville, Shaunna Aker of West Point and Patrice, Lucy and Oscar Goodwin of Garden City; three great-grandchildren, Yasmin and Haven Pair and McKenzie Mitchell; five brothers, Clyde Anderson of Crane Hill, Paul Ray Anderson of Smith Lake, Roger Anderson, James Earl Anderson and Ronald Anderson, all of Cullman; and five sisters, Betty Ann Isbell of Garden City, Flora Dean Hunter of Phelan, Glenda Anderson of Nevada, Judy Nail Garrison of Cullman and Dorothy Reese of Hanceville.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
