David Mims III

Funeral services for David Mims III, 63, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, Bros. Bird Walker and Gerald Harper officiating, with Burial in Center Hill Cemetery

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mims died Sunday, July 11 in Birmingham. He was born in Mobile on Aug. 19, 1940, to Major David II and Jean Moragne Mims. He was a longtime member of VFW-Hanceville and the American Legion. He attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Birmingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jimmy Mims.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Mae Walker Mims of Hanceville; three step-daughters, Tammy Johnson of Jemison, Kelly (Thomas) Copeland of Cullman, Shannon (Wayne) Loggins of Hanceville; six step-grandchildren, Kimberly and Christopher Johnson, Donovan and Hailey Grace Copeland, Hayden and Brooke-Heaven Loggins; sister, Judy Mims Hatcher of Birmingham; brother, Walter (Emily) Mims of Birmingham; brother-in-law, Ronnie Walker of Hanceville; sister-in-law, Martha Smith of Hanceville; and a host of nephews, nieces and special friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Elsie Cobbs Keller

Funeral services for Elsie Cobbs Keller, 78, of Moody will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Etha Missionary Baptist Church, Elder Guy Hunt officiating, with Burial in Etha Cemetery. The body will lie in state two hours prior to the service.

Kilgroe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Keller died Sunday, July 11. She was a member of Gum Pond Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred V. "Pete" Keller Jr.; a son, Donnie (Joan) Keller; two daughters, Linda (Johnny) Hudgins and Anita (George) Patterson; eight grandchildren, Craig (Cindy) Keller, Kim Walker, Scott Keller, Mike (Susan) Hudgins, Shannon (Shannon) Goss, Dawn (Barry) Kelly, Jeff Patterson and Kelly (Brian) Huffstutler; a brother, Leon Cobbs; three sisters, Arnita Hunt, Hattie Julian and Lucille Cornett; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lakeside Hospice, Inc., P.O. Box 544, Pell City, Ala. 35125.

Shirley Gene Jenkins

Funeral services for Shirley Gene Jenkins, 54, of Cullman will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Bible Way Pentecostal Church, Pastor Carol Drinkard officiating, with Burial in Simcoe Methodist Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jenkins died Saturday, July 10, at her residence. She was born June 19, 1950, in Winston County to Franklin and Audrey Trussell Gaines. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, Craig Gaines of Salians, Calif.; a daughter, Bridgett Miller of Cullman; a brother, James (Gail) Gaines of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Rachel (John) Smith, Gail (Jimmy) Freeman and Gwenda (Ronnie) Marks, all of Cullman; three grandchildren, Zachary Gaines of Salians, Calif., and Frankie Jenkins and Chance Miller, both of Cullman; six nieces; two nephews; a host of great-nephews and great-nieces; and a great-great-nephew.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Dr. Bob G. Guthery

Funeral services for Dr. Bob G. Guthery, 69, of Cullman will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Kevin McGrath officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He died Monday, July 12 in Huntsville. He was born Feb. 25, 1935.

Dr. Guthery attended Logan School and Cullman High School before graduating from Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas. He earned his bachelor's degree in biology from Saint Bernard College in 1957, his master of science degree in biology from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 1963, and his doctorate from Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., in 1986. During this time he taught at Fairview High School 1958-'63, teaching biology and chemistry, and was assistant principal at Cullman High School.

From 1969 to 1973 he owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Cullman with his wife, Virginia.

Dr. Guthery was employed at Wallace State College from 1969 to 1993 as an instructor of zoology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology and as director of allied health programs. He was the academic dean at Wallace State College from 1981 to 1993.

Dr. Guthery was instrumental in the establishment and accreditation of the Registered Nursing, Physical Therapy Assistant, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Lab and other programs at Wallace State as well as getting the Southern Association accreditation of the college. After retirement from a full-time position at Wallace State in 1993, he continued to work part-time through 1996.

Dr. Guthery served as president of the Cullman City Teachers Association. He organized the Rotary-sponsored Interact Club at Cullman High School. He was selected Outstanding Rotarian in 1962. He served six years in the 117th Unit of the Air National Guard and also served on the Board of Directors of North Alabama Emergency Services for a number of years.

Dr. Guthery was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mexie Turner Guthery, and a brother, Juby Guthery.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ann Guthery of Cullman; two daughters, Jennifer Leigh Guthery and Julie Marie (Jason) Kelly, both of Cullman; a brother-in-law, Gene McDonald of Cullman; a sister-in-law, Mary Glenn Guthery of Cullman; three grandchildren, John-Jackson Guthery, Della Ann Kelly and Benjamin Michael Kelly, all of Cullman; an aunt, Myrtle Kligo of Logan; numerous cousins; four nieces; and two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hospice organization of your choice.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.

Orphia H. Schlosser

Funeral services for Orphia H. Schlosser, 81, formerly of Cullman, will be announced by Moss-Service Funeral Home. She died Tuesday, July 13 in Hoover.

Floyal William Rodgers Jr.

Funeral services for Floyal William Rodgers Jr., 47, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Sardis Baptist Church, William McClellan, Terry Phillips and Steton Hayes officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rodgers died Monday, July 12, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 15, 1956, in Cullman County to Floyal William Wesley and Dezzie Docena Brown Rodgers. He was the pastor of Walnut Grove Baptist Church and at teacher at Mount Hope Elementary School in Lawrence County.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Powell Rodgers; a son, Brett (Casey) Rodgers; a daughter, Bridgett (Greg) Dollar; a brother, Billie Wayne (Donna) Rodgers; three sisters, Mary Juanita (Houston) Blackwood, Robin (Scott) Everett and Lisa (Leon) Denson; two grandchildren, Brody Dollar and Bracie Rodgers; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Orphia Hudson Schlosser

Funeral services for Orphia Hudson Schlosser, 81, of Hoover will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Jeff Bayne and David Wallace officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Schlosser died Tuesday, July 13 at The Park at Riverchase. She was born Jan. 9, 1923, to Robert B. and Pearl Williams Hudson. She was a retired dental hygienist of 51 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Dwight C. Schlosser of Hoover; a son, Larry (Sharron) Schlosser of Hoover; two brothers, Jack (Lynn) Hudson of Lafayette, La. and John (Wanda) Hudson of Omaha, Neb.; three sisters, Reecie H. Harbison and Margie Lee, both of Cullman, and Ruth H. Burleson of Holly Pond; two grandchildren, Robin (Dennis) Poulos and Robert Schlosser; and a great-grandchild, Beth Poulos.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Beacon Hospice.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

Lola Mae Plott

Funeral services for Lola Mae Plott, 92, of Logan will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Larry Brown and Buford Haynes officiating, with Burial in Logan Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Plott died Wednesday, July 14 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 27, 1911, in Lauderdale County. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.A. Rusk and Maggie Schultz Rusk; her husband, Walter Howard Plott; three brothers, Bill, Odis and Edward "Buck" Rusk; and a sister, Parthena "Jack" Wright.

Survivors include two sons, Howard (Dean) Plott of Cullman and Jimmy Plott of Birmingham; a daughter, Margaret (Sonny) Chandler of Cullman; five brothers, James, J.C., Hubert, Duel and Alton Rusk; four sisters, Freda Campbell, Polly Campbell, Doris Harris and Linda Brock; three grandchildren, Keith (Christy) Plott of Jasper, Jamie Plott of Birmingham and Jeanie (John) Dayani of Nashville, Tenn.; and four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Samuel and Jacob Plott and John Dayani III.

Visitation was Thursday.

Merle A. 'Chris' Franklin

Funeral services for Merle A. "Chris" Franklin, 63, of Bremen will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Steve Rodgers officiating, with Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Lois Henke

Funeral services for Lois Henke, 91, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Rev. Wayne Williams officiating, with Burial in Good Hope Cemetery.

Miss Henke died Thursday, July 15 at Woodland Village Health Care.

Mittie Jo Smith

Funeral services for Mittie Jo Smith, 76, of Vinemont will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Delwin Kilgo officiating, with Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery at West Point.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith died Thursday, July 15 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born on April 29, 1928, in Cullman County to William Hiram "Bill" and Ivra Reno Chaney.

Survivors include a son, David W. (Rose) Smith of Cullman; two daughters, Thresa (James R.) Seely of West Point and Christie Johnson of Dodge City; four grandchildren, Ann (Heath) Plunkett, Wesley Johnson, Christopher Johnson and Ethan Seely; a great-grandson, Elijah Collum; a sister, Mavis King; and three brothers, Garvis Chaney of Cullman, Hiram Chaney of West Point and Doyle Chaney of Trussville.

Visitation was Friday.

James Tillman Harding

Funeral services for James Tillman Harding, 65, of Hartselle will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Peck Funeral Chapel, Phillip Hines officiating, with Burial in Sardis No. 2 Cemetery in Winston County.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Harding died Friday, July 16 at his residence. He was born in Winston County on June 29, 1939, to James Dewey and Cris Moddila Harris Harding. He was a member of the Hartselle Church of Christ and was retired from 3M Company as a supervisor where he worked.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Marie Sams Harding of Hartselle; two sons, Bruce Dewayne (Tammy) Harding of Priceville and Perry Michael (Sherri) Harding of Hartselle; two brothers, William H. "Bud" Harding of Sardis and Lillman Harding of Moulton; a sister, Macie Pigg of Cullman; and four grandchildren, Zachary Harding, Brandon Harding, Amber Harding and Ashley Harding.

Pallbearers will be Zachary Harding, Brandon Harding, Anthony Sams, Lee Brummett, Justin Brummett and Edwin Clark.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Vera Little Hampton

Services for Vera Little Hampton, 69, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Randall Howard and David Chambers officiating, with Burial in Fairview Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Hampton died July 15 at her residence. She was born Jan. 12, 1935. She was retired and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Thomas A. Hampton; a son, Craig Hampton; two sisters, Cumi Fortner and Louise Bowen; and six brothers, Jack, Levi, Arthur, Bill, Henry and Hoyt Harrington.

Survivors include three sons, William Ethridge Hampton, Bobby Gerald (Robin Clark) Hampton and Thomas Wayne (Judy) Hampton; three daughters, Camellia Ann (Perry) Garrison, Mary Joyce (Tony) Watts and Sandra Dianne (Jerry) Roberts; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.
