Services for Bobby Ray Griffin, 69, of Vinemont, who died July 17, 2004, will be announced by Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Darwin W. Rigsby

Funeral services for Darwin W. Rigsby, 71, of Dallas, Texas, will be held in Plano, Texas.

Moss-Service Funeral Home of Cullman is handling arrangements.

He died July 17 in Dallas. He was born Aug. 2, 1932. He was formerly of Cullman and graduated from Cullman High School in 1950. he earned a degree in accounting from St. Bernard College and served four years in the Air Force. he was a retired auditor for Sherwin-Williams Paint Inc.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonard and Elizabeth Foust Rigsby.

Survivors include his wife, Dorless Andrews Rigsby; a son, Alexandra Rigsby of Houston; three brothers, Paul W. Rigsby of Cullman, Franklin D. Pittman and Robert Earl Pittman; a sister, Geraldine Parker of Salada, Texas; a sister-in-law, Barbara B. Rigsby, wife of deceased brother Larry Rigsby; and a special friend, Ada Paynter of Plano, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a Hospice of your choice.

Abby Danelle Speegle

Graveside services for infant Abby Danelle Speegle of Cullman were Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Emeus Cemetery, the Rev. Greg Aldredge officiating.

Moss-Service Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She was born and died July 17 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her parents, Rodney and April Speegle of Cullman; grandparents, James and Terry Simmons, Kim and Anita Folds and Randy and Cindy Roberts; great-grandparents, Vida Harbison, Nellie Speegle, Ivalee and Jerry Skinner, Dean and O'Neil Folds, Neil and Barbara Buckelew; great-great-grandmother, Ruby Brown; a brother, Tyler Speegle; and two sisters, Kaitlyn Speegle and Kortney Speegle.

Vera Lillie Hampton

Services for Vera Lillie Hampton, 69, of Cullman were Monday, July 19, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Randall Howard and David Chambers officiating, with Burial in Fairview Baptist Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hampton died July 15 at her residence. She was born Jan. 12, 1935. She was retired and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Thomas A. Hampton; a son, Craig Hampton; two sisters, Cumi Fortner and Louise Bowen; and six brothers, Jack, Levi, Arthur, Bill, Henry and Hoyt Harrington.

Survivors include three sons, William Ethridge Hampton, Bobby Gerald (Robin Clark) Hampton and Thomas Wayne (Judy) Hampton; three daughters, Camellia Ann (Perry) Garrison, Mary Joyce (Tony) Watts and Sandra Dianne (Jerry) Roberts; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Sunday.

Matthew Oliver Humphreys

Funeral services for Matthew Oliver Humphreys, 21, of Baileyton will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Bethel United Methodist Church, Dean Elrod and Guy Hunt officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state two hours prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Humphreys died Sunday, July 18 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Nov. 1, 1982, in New Albany, Miss. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and was a lawn maintenance worker for Humpty-Dumpty Lawn Care.

Survivors include his parents, Emmett and Donna Humphreys of Baileyton; two brothers, Heath (April) Humphreys of Jacksonville, Fla., and Daniel (Wendy) Humphreys of Springfield, Ga.; and a sister, Stacy (Robert) Joiner of Eva.

Visitation was Monday.

Bobby Ray Griffin

Funeral services for Bobby Ray Griffin, 69, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home, Tim Aris and Charles Barnett officiating, with Burial in Blair Methodist Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Griffin died Saturday, July 17, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born March 21, 1935, of Cullman County. He was retired from the U.S. Army Missile Command as a GS-13 Quality Control worker. He was a member of Blair Congregational Methodist Church. He was a Mason, a Board member of Cullman Farmer's Co-op and a member of the Alabama Poultry and Egg Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gale P. Griffin; and his father, Doyal O. Griffin.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Wynn Griffin; a son, Skip (Chris) Griffin; two daughters, Sharon (Mark) Fox and Karon McKelvy; a brother, Kenneth "Red" (Connie) Griffin; a sister, Betty Sue Garrett; four grandchildren, Zach Neely, Chad McKelvy, Jake Griffin and Jeb Griffin; and special companion, Ann Armstrong.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Thompson, Benton Thompson, Johnny Laney, Randy Powell, Michael Buckelew and Charlie Brown.

Visitation was Monday.

Ernest R. Tyson

Ernest R. Tyson, 72, of Vinemont died Sunday, July 18, 2004, in Vinemont. Private services will be held.

Mrs. Hancock died Monday, July 19 at a local nursing home. She was born to John Marion and Audrey Graves Freeman on Dec. 3, 1920, in Cullman County.

Survivors include a son, Charles (Pat) Hancock of Bremen; a daughter, Jean (Ferrell) Sanders of Bremen; two sisters, Irene Swann of Brushy Pond and Shirley Lay of Cullman; three brothers, Alvis Freeman, Kenneth Freeman and Johnny Freeman, all of Brushy Pond; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Matthew Lee Oliver

Funeral services for Matthew Lee Oliver, 27, of Addison were Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Nichols Funeral Home, with Burial in Corinth Cemetery in West Point.

Nichols Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Oliver died Sunday, July 18, in Lawrence County.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Oliver; his parents, Robert and Krista Oliver; two daughters, Madison Lee Oliver and Brittany Kay Thomas; a brother, Jesse Oliver; two sisters, Selena Oliver and Jeanna Heard; a grandmother, Billie R. Lee; grandparents, Troy and Jewel Oliver; mother- and father-in-law, Larry and Janice Gambrill; and a brother-in-law, Larry Gambrill Jr.

Mavis Alene Woods

Funeral services for Mavis Alene Woods, 77, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2004, at Williams-McCracken Chapel, the Revs. Randy Butram and Bill Burkett officiating, with Burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Woods died Tuesday, July 20 at her residence. She was born April 16, 1927, in Cullman County to Claud and Sallie Caple Wren. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church at Holly Pond.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Woods of Cullman; two daughters, Brenda Joyce (Kenneth) Bates of Cullman and Rebecca Gail Woods of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; two grandchildren, Courtney A. (Brad) Brooks and Nathan Bates, both of Cullman; a sister, Martha F. (Jerry) Still of Arab; two nephews, Mike Still and Greg (Brenda) Still, both of Arab; and a great-niece, Morgan Still.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County or to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Darwin W. Rigsby

Darwin W. Rigsby, born Aug. 2, 1932, passed away July 17, 2004, after a battle with cancer. He served in the USAF for four years in Korea then returned to his hometown of Cullman and graduated from St. Bernard College. He retired from Sherwin Williams after a long career. As all of his friends know, golf was his passion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonard and Elizabeth Foust Rigsby; and his brother, Larry C. Rigsby.

He is survived by his son, Alex, of Houston, Texas, and his son's mother, Dorless Rigsby, of Irving, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Gerrie Parker, of Salado, Texas; his brother, Paul (Etna) Rigsby of Cullman; and his loving companion, Ada Paynter.

A special thanks to the Veterans Administration Home Healthcare team, especially our nurse Susan.

A private farewell is planned.

Nancy Mitchell Grant

Memorial services for Nancy Mitchell Grant, 66, of Valley Road, Gainesville, Ga., were Friday, July 16, 2004, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Revs. Gerald Jordan and Jeff Cook officiated.

Little-Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville, Ga. was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Grant died Tuesday, July 13 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center's Lanier Park campus following an extended illness. She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and later moved to Cullman with her family. They were members of Cullman First Methodist Church. She was a graduate of the Cullman High School Class of 1956. She lived in Gainesville since 1971. She was a nurse and a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Robert C. Grant Sr. of Gainesville; sons, Robert C. Jr. (Jill) Grant and Phillip Edward (Kathy) Grant, all of Atlanta, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Michelle Grant of Atlanta; brothers, Gary (Shelby) Mitchell, Butch (Pam) Mitchell and Richard (Mireya) Mitchell, all of Birmingham; and two grandchildren, Allison Nicole Grant and Sydney Isabella Grant, both of Atlanta.

Lucille F. Weeks Woods

Funeral services for Lucille F. Weeks Woods, 78, of Vinemont will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Ralph Henderson officiating, with Burial in Friendship Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Woods died Thursday, July 22, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 25, 1926, in Cullman County to Jewel and Ludie Purdy Weeks. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elro "Buddy" Woods; a son, James Woods; three brothers, Henry and Hurschell Weeks and Ozell Pichelmayer; and two sisters, Susie Maye Weeks and Ann Weeks.

Survivors include a son, Billy (Kathy) Wood; two daughters, Faye (Jerry) Phillips and Debra (Kenneth) Boyd; two brothers, George (Judy) Weeks and Glenn (Marie) Weeks; a sister, Nell Jackson; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Callie Exie Baty

Funeral services for Callie Exie Baty, 99, of Arkadelphia will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Valley View Baptist Church, the Revs. Marvin Clemmons and Tim Barnett officiating, with Burial in Arkadelphia Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Baty died Thursday, July 22, at her residence. She was born in Tennessee on July 2, 1905.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Baty; her parents, Arnold and Myra Hunt; two sons, Herril and Willis Baty; and three daughters, Earline Bankston, Mildred Davis and an infant daughter.

Survivors include three sons, Howard (Izola) Baty, Leon (Gail) Baty and Malcom (Ruth) Baty, all of Arkadelphia; four daughters, Kathleen (Thomas) White and Sharon Way, both of Cullman, and Merle (Sam) Baruch of Jasper; a daughter-in-law, Tyrone Baty of Arkadelphia; a brother, B.J. Barrett of Dora; 39 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
