Roger N. Shockley

Funeral services for the Rev. Roger N. Shockley, 58, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Midway Missionary Baptist Church on Alabama 91, Malcom Carter officiating, with Burial in Fairview West Cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Shockley died Wednesday, Sept. 22, in Cullman. He was born Feb. 16, 1946, in Cullman County to Horace N. and Geneva Hudson Shockley. For almost 30 years the Rev. Shockley found great joy in serving the Lord and pastoring his flock at the Midway Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 91. He also loved working on cars and collecting knives. His real passion, however, was gardening. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and Paw Paw.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Brenda Vincent.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Boatright Shockley; one daughter, Michelle (Roger) Merrill; one grandson, Aaron N. Merrill; one granddaughter, Lacey Nicole Merrill; four sisters, Janice Alldridge, Linda (Billy) Ball, Sheila Johnson and Lori (Mark) Perdue; and three brothers, Fred (Oneida) Shockley, Bobby (Carol) Shockley and Dale Shockley.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Katie Pauline Sanford Prater

Funeral services for Katie Pauline Sanford Prater, 85, of Danville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Peck Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Francis Proctor officiating, with Burial in Friendship Cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Prater died Wednesday, Sept. 22, at National Healthcare in Moulton. She was born on May 4, 1919, in Lawrence County to Elmer and Ura Filyaw Sanford. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard Prater; and a daughter, Mary Virginia Prater.

Survivors include a son, Charlie Prater of Danville; three daughters, Dorothy Powell of Falkville, Ruby Powell of Cullman and Jo Ann Steel of Danville; a brother, Earnest Sanford of Decatur; a sister, Marie Steele of Danville; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eunice Ruth Hale

Funeral services for Eunice Ruth Hale, 84, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Larry Joe Stallings officiating, with Burial in Cullman Heritage Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hale died Thursday, Sept. 23, at Cullman Long Term Care. She was born June 17, 1920, in Cullman County to Thomas Rufus and Lavada Moore Waters. She was retired form Cullman Hospital Dietary Department.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Don and Tom Hale; and two brothers, Johnny and C.O. Waters.

Survivors include her husband, Buel Hale; a daughter, Kay (James) Yearwood; a daughter-in-law, Verna Hale; two brothers, D.R. (Marie) Waters and Hosie Waters; four grandchildren, Derek (Meredith) Hale, Trevor Hale, Heather Hale and Heith (Amanda) Yearwood; and three great-grandchildren, Spencer Hale, Blake Yearwood and Bailee Yearwood.

Visitation was Friday.

Audie Jewel Godfrey

Graveside services for Audie Jewel Godfrey, 98, of Huntsville, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Godfrey died Friday, Sept. 24, at Windsor House Nursing Home in Huntsville.

Rosalee Jacobs

Funeral services for Rosalee Jacobs, 71, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Mission Grove Church, the Rev. Jerry Freeman officiating, with Burial in Mission Grove Cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jacobs died Thursday, Sept. 23, at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. She was born June 14, 1933, in Birmingham to Raymond Sr. and Hattie Corine Ryans Brown. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence V. Jacobs of Cullman; two sons, Carlton (Carol) Jacobs and Ralph (Rhonda) Jacobs, both of Cullman; three daughters, Roseann (Terry) Waldrop of Jones Chapel and Glenda Gail (Jeff) Filyaw and Shirley (Bobby) Cryer, both of Cullman; her father, Raymond Brown Sr. of Hanceville; two sisters, Anita Shockly and Doris Vansant, both of Cullman; four brothers, the Rev. Larry (Brenda) Brown, Johnny W. (Lisa) Brown and Shirl (Betty) Brown, all of Cullman, and the Rev. Junior (Fay) Brown of Addison; 11 grandchildren, Steven (Amanda) Partain, Jason (Cynthia) Lowery, Josh Fairbanks, Veronica Jacobs, Haley Jacobs, Joseph Jacobs, Jeffery Filyaw, Carrie (John) Blankenship, Michelle Jacobs, Lee Ann Cox and Leslie (Matthew) Thornton; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Freda Denise Sandlin

Funeral services for Freda Denise Sandlin, 44, of Vinemont, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Charles Ervin officiating, with Burial in Flint Creek Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sandlin died Friday, Sept. 24, at her residence. She was born April 11, 1960, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Jimmy Lee and Carolyn Ray. She was a disabled homemaker. Mrs. Sandlin Beach lived in the Vinemont community all her life and was known for her spirit and smile.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn Ray; her grandparents, Virgil and Hannah Corley; and two sisters, Mary McDaniel and Stella Ray.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Beach; two sons, Chad (Misty) Sandlin and Dustin Beach; daughters, Jamie and Todd Johnson and Beth Beach; six brothers, Buster (Diane) Corley, Edward (Ruby) Corley, Windal (Earlene) Corley, Boyce (Sharon) Corley, Barry Ray and Kerry Ray; two sisters, Shirley McDaniel and Genean Smith; four grandchildren, Katch Johnson, Kix Johnson, Damon Beach and Baby Sandlin; her father, Jimmy Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

E.B. Harbison

E.B. Harbison, age 75, of Bremen died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 5, 1929, in Cullman County to the late Bethel and Vera Harbison. He was a member of South Cullman Church of Christ.

Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel with Burial following at Ryan's Creek Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Ethelene Harbison; children Diann Tucker (husband Mike) of Blount Springs, Ralph Harbison (wife Penny) of Bremen, Linda Baker (husband Jay) of Smoke Rise and Jeff Harbison (wife Anisa) of Bremen; grandchildren, Arin Billings; Anna Claire Tucker; Brandon and Blake Harbison, Ryan, Trent and Nolan Baker; Jessi, Hanna and Emilee Harbison; and two sisters, Shelba Jean McCleney of Gardendale and Charlotte Calvert of Lacey's Spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Cullman County Hospice or a charity of your choice.

L.E. Harris

Funeral services for L.E. Harris, 88, of Crane Hill will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Mt. Hope Baptist Church, Randy Phillips, Charles Johnson and Ron Gilbreath officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Harris died Monday, Sept. 27, at Woodland Medical Center. She was born July 18, 1916, in Winston County to Robert E. Lee and Dora Gains Thornton. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin C. Harris; six sisters, Ethel Dye, Nora Burks, Ivanell Vaughn, R. Mae Skinner, Elsie Waldrep and Ettie "Melvie" Thornton; six brothers, Eb, Orvil, Wesley, Edward, Franklin Thornton and an infant brother; and two daughters, Ella Jean Harris Marchman.

Survivors include three sons, Coleman B. Harris, Kelton F. (Sandra) Harris and Dennis W. (Carol) Harris; special caregiver and daughter-in-law, Nita Harris; two brothers, Aaron and Welcome Thornton; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Nell Vickery Styles

Funeral services for Nell Vickery Styles, 81, of Good Hope will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, the Revs. Bob Alford and John Mullaney of Cullman First United Methodist Church will officiate, with the Rev. Emory Calvert as honorary pastor. Burial will be at Cullman City Cemetery.

Mrs. Styles died peacefully at her home on Monday, Sept. 27. She was born on Dec. 10, 1922, in Logan and graduated from Cullman County High School. She married in 1942 and became a very patriotic and devoted military wife and mother for 61 years. After many moves, she finally returned to her earthly home in Good Hope. She was one of the originators of the "Logan Girls" reunions. She was an active supporter of all programs and activities of the historical Shady Grove Methodist Church at Logan. She was a faithful member of Cullman First United Methodist Church, serving in several capacities as long as she was physically able.

Mrs. Styles was preceded in death by her parents, William Grady Vickery and Della Graham Vickery; as well as her son, Timothy Leland Styles. She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Oliver Leland Styles; one daughter, Rebecca Delene Parker; son-in-law, Daniel parker; and beloved granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Parker of Hartwell, Ga.

Additional survivors are one sister, Palmer Vickery Leverett; a nephew, Charles Leverett, both of Cullman; a niece, Paulette McMickens of Corner; a great-nephew, Beau Leverett; and a great-niece, Jessica Leverett of Cullman; a great-nephew, Brian Champion; and a great-niece, Angel Champion Walker, both of Corner.

Other survivors are nephews, Donald (Margery) Styles, David (Bonnie) Styles; a niece, Delene Styles Sullenger, all of Cullman; great-nieces and great-nephews, David Styles, Michael Styles, Susan Virginia Styles, Jaime Styles, Donna Styles and Debra Sepp; great-great-nephews, Christopher Styles, Samual Leland Styles, Travis Sepp and Grant Sepp; and great-great nieces, Nelly and Maggie Styles.

Pallbearers will be Donald Styles, David Styles, Michael Styles, Charles Leverett, Beau Leverett and Brian Champion. Honorary pallbearers will be the ladies of the Bob Sapp Sunday School Class and their teacher, Delene Sullenger.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County, or the First United Methodist Church in Cullman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Walter Alvin Lowe

Funeral services for Walter Alvin Lowe, 80, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Eva United Pentecostal Church, the Rev. Greg Wilbanks officiating, with Burial in Lawrence Chapel Cemetery in Fairview. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Lowe died Monday, Sept. 27, at his residence. He was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Ohio to Virgle and Sylvia Ellswick Lowe. He was a truck driver for Dry Freight.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda Marcella Swann Lowe of Cullman; one daughter, Rachel Case of Spring Hill, Tenn.; two grandsons, Joseph Charles "Joey" Case of Spring Hill, Tenn., and David Lowe Jr. of Springfield, Tenn.; and devoted friends, Allen Johnson and Jeremy Shaddix, both of Cullman.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today.

Billy Lowry

Funeral services for Billy Lowry, 72, of St. Charles, Mo., will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Baue Funeral and Memorial Center Chapel in St. Charles. Interment will be at a later date in Holly Pond Cemetery with Moss-Service Funeral Home directing at that time.

Baue Funeral and Memorial Center Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lowry died Saturday, Sept. 25, at his residence. He was born July 23, 1932, in Cullman. He was a plant manager for Vinings Corporation in Marietta, Ga., for 15 years. He was also a member of Kiwanis Club-Algiers Morning Edition in New Orleans, La., and a member of the Shriners.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Thorne Lowry; his parents, Reno and Lora Lowry; and a daughter, Lori Beth Croteau.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Allen Lowry; a daughter, Marcia (Steve) Teague of St. Charles, Mo.; two brothers, Walter Lowry and Rodney Lowry, both of Winfield; two grandchildren, Stephanie Teague and Anthony Joe Romines; and four stepchildren, Stephen Luce of Plano, Texas, Jim Luce of California, Beth Lepore of Florida and Dianne Czarnecki of California.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Baue Funeral Home or Kiwanis Club of New Orleans.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Joseph Clark Dean

Graveside services for Joseph Clark Dean, 86, of Hanceville were Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Damascus Cemetery, the Rev. Richard Bailey officiating.

Hanceville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dean died Monday, Sept. 27, at Hanceville. He was born Aug. 4, 1918, in Hanceville to William and Bertha L. South Dean.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include five daughters, Carol (R.L. "Doc") Freeman of Hartselle, Barbara (Larry) Aaron of Crane Hill, Faye (Ellis) Rice and Tressie Welch, both of Hanceville, and LaBrenda (Chris) Bertucci of Arkansas; three sons, Joe (Jane) Dean, Jimmy Dean and Mitchell (Pam) Dean, both of Hanceville; a sister-in-law, Edith Dean of Hanceville; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Pearl L. Parker

Funeral services for Pearl L. Parker, 90, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, Hubert Smith officiating, with Burial in Valley Springs Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Parker died Saturday, Sept. 25, in Hanceville.

Jesse D. Rollo

Funeral arrangements for Jesse D. Rollo, 90, of Bremen are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the funeral home.

Mr. Rollo died Wednesday, Sept. 29, at his residence.
