Joy E. Clark

Funeral services for Joy E. Clark, 59, of Cullman were Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Moss-Service Chapel, Dr. Bill Burkett officiating, with Burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Miss Clark died Monday, Nov. 8 in Cullman. She was born Nov. 17, 1944.

She was preceded in death by her father, Millard Clark.

Survivors include two sons, Zaine (Stephanie) Cupp and Brent (Candi) Cupp; her mother, Hazel E. Clark; a brother, Buddy (Diane) Clark; and four grandchildren, Caleb, Karlie, Natosha and Storm.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Melba Louise Federer

Funeral services for Melba Louise Federer, 83, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at St. John's Church, Bro. B.L. Bradford officiating, with Burial in Cullman City Cemetery. The body will lie state one hour prior to the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Federer died Wednesday, Nov. 10 at Woodland Village. She was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Cullman County to Luther Herbert and Euna Lee Sparks Bradford. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a bookkeeper for Farm Supply.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, Carlton A. (Sue) Smith of Pinson; two daughters, Mary Jo (Jim) Hunt and June (Bill) DeBruhl, both of Cullman; a brother, Oscar "Buddy" (Norma) Bradford of Cullman; a sister, Mary Capla of Cullman; a host of nieces and nephews; four grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Cullman County or to St. John's Music Fund.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Joy McEwen

Joy McEwen, age 61, of Riverdale, Ga., died Nov. 4, 2004. Mrs. McEwen graduated from Southwest High School in 1962 and from Clayton Junior College in 1986. She was employed by Southern Regional Medical Center for over 17 years. She was a member of South Atlanta Church of Christ and Music Alive Chorus.

She was survived by her husband, Stephen Ray McEwen; a daughter, Lisa McEwen of Atlanta; a son, Stephen McEwen of Austin, Texas; and brothers, Jack Gayle Spittler of Friendswood, Texas, and Dolph Leland Spittler of Monticello, Miss.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Ebenezer Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, Texas 75265.

Candice 'Marie' Ray

Graveside services for Candice "Marie" Ray, 77, of Birmingham will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.

Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ray died Wednesday, Nov. 10. She worked in and around Cullman for 20 years as a private care nurse.

She was preceded in death by her son, Maxie Moore; and her parents, Rufus and Vera Ray.

Survivors include three sisters, Myra (Harold) Hill of Decatur, Jewel Yarbrough of Gardendale and Oleda (Earl) Wilhite of Falkville; a brother, Oxford Ray of Vinemont; a granddaughter, Heather Moore (Brett) Reeves of Birmingham; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Matthew Reeves; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

Emmett Varner

Funeral services for Emmett Varner, 77, of Oxon Hill, Md., will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Holly Pond Chapel, Pastor Charles Ball officiating, with Burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Jefferson Memorial of Trussville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Varner died Monday, Nov. 8. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer of the U.S. Navy where he was a Construction Battalion (Sea-Bee) Electrician. He was a member of Forrest Heights Baptist Church in Oxon Hill, Md.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Varner; two daughters, Sharron Brown and Carol (Bob) Cole; a son, Captain Paul E. (Captain Cindy, USN) Varner, USN; a sister, Ruby Sumners; two grandchildren, Robert (Alisa) Cole and Candice Cole; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Carter Cole; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Madison Paige Thompson

Graveside services for Madison Paige Thompson, infant, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at the Lake Wales Cemetery in Lake Wales, Fla., Dr. John Glamann officiating.

Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

She died Monday, Nov. 8, of heart complications at All Children's Hospital in St. Pete, Fla.

Evelyn Estelle Witt

Funeral services for Evelyn Estelle Witt, 88, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Pastor Ruland officiating, with Burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She died Wednesday, Nov. 10 at Mt. Horeb, Wisc. She was born April 6, 1916, in Jefferson County. She was a secretary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Dunn and Beulah Simpson Dunn; and her husband, William Frederick Witt.

Survivors include her sister, Jo Helen Kirkwood of Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Edna (Norman) Sinback of Birmingham; three nieces, Lynne (Richard) Schifreen of Wisconsin, Carol (Everett) Williams of Georgia and Jane (Geoffrey) Ketcham of Birmingham; and two nephews, Joe Kirkwood of Colorado and Norman Sinback of Tennessee.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Lynn Roberson Bates

Funeral services for Lynn Roberson Bates, 57, of Holly Pond will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at Holly Pond Chapel, the Rev. Doug Bates officiating, with Burial in Bethsadia Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bates died Thursday, Nov. 11 at her residence.

Donald Wayne Ring

Funeral services for Donald Wayne Ring, 53, of Vinemont will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Holly Pond Chapel, with Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery in Holly Pond.

Mr. Ring died Thursday, Nov. 11 at his residence.

Oxford Oneal Ray

Funeral services for Oxford Oneal Ray, 76, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Kerry Cleghorn officiating, with Burial at Flint Creek Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ray died Saturday, Nov. 13, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. He was born April 14, 1928, in Cullman County to Rufus J. and Vera Pope Ray. He was a retired carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Stella Marie Corley Ray; five brothers, Eugene Ray, Porter Ray, Willard Ray, Artis Ray and Roger Ray; and six sisters, Helen Smith, Floice Drake, Pansy Mardis, Virginia Murphee, Marie Moore and Phyllis Copeland.

Survivors include eight daughters, Kathy (Jim) Buchanan, Diana (Damon) Monk, Betty Hall, Annette (Mike) Waldrop, Nancy Dutton, Pam (Larry) Bently, Teresa Hughes and Sandra (Calvin) Douglas; two sons, Rodney Ray and Randy Ray; a special friend, Cloie Ray; three sisters, Jewel Yarbrough, Oleta Wilhite, Myra Hall; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Otto Bailey

Funeral services for James Otto Bailey, 74, of Bremen will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Valley Springs Baptist Church, the Revs. John Sellers and Ronnie Clark officiating, with Burial at Valley Springs Cemetery in Cullman.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bailey died Saturday, Nov. 13, in Bremen. He was born Feb. 20, 1930, in Jefferson County.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leon Bailey and Kenneth Wells, one sister, Larue Drummond; and one son-in-law, Pete Nethery.

Survivors include his wife, Elouise Abbott Bailey of Bremen; six sons, Alton (Kathy) Bailey, Randy Bailey, Robin Bailey, Bruce Bailey, David Bailey and Jamie Bailey; four daughters, June (Junior) Speegle, Darlene Nethery, Janet (Frankie) Cruce and Patricia (Billy) Thomas; two brothers, Felton Henderson and Delmer Bailey; 25 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Kenneth William Self

Funeral services for Kenneth William Self, 49, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Shelton Grove Baptist Church, the Revs. David McDonald and Bradley McDonald officiating, with Burial at Shelton Grove Cemetery in Hancevile.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Self died Saturday, Nov. 13, in Birmingham. He was born Nov. 28, 1954, in Cullman.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herndon Self.

Survivors include his wife, Diann Purdy Self of Cullman; one daughter, Jessica Faith Self of Cullman; five brothers, Jimmy (Connie) Self and Randy (Connie) Self, both of Bremen; Anthony (Cathy) Self of Dodge City; Bobby (Jo) Self of New Prospect; and Herndon (Penny) Self Jr. of Dodge City; three sisters, Denise (Ted) Hollils of Hanceville, Donna (Gary) Campbell of Bremen and Bonnie (Ronald) Johns of Jacksonville, Fla.; and his mother, Edna (Stephen) Cagle of New Prospect.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Ina Hardin Simpson

Funeral services for Ina Hardin Simpson, 83, of Fairview will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. J.W. Dial and Delbert Freeman officiating, with Burial in Union Grove Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Simpson died Saturday, Nov. 13, at home. She was born Dec. 6, 1920, in Marshall County to Joseph H. and Lula York Harden. She was a homemaker and a member of Zion Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Columbus Simpson; two brothers, James Harden and Calvin Harden; and two sisters, Estelle Miller and Lena Simpson.

Survivors include three sons, Billy W. Simpson of Pelham and Alton R. Simpson and Jerry W. Simpson, both of Holly Pond; one daughter, Dessie Fallin of Fairview; one brother, Willard N. Harden of Blountsville; one sister, Cora Lee Clem of Holly Pond; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Michael Allen Stewart Jr.

Funeral services for Michael Allen Stewart Jr., 18, of Vinemont will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Mac Buttram and Chuck Canterbury officiating, with Burial at Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stewart died Friday, Nov. 12, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Miss. He was born May 5, 1986. He was a student at the University of West Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Earl E. Wrenn.

Survivors include his parents, Melissa W. Stewart of Cullman and Michael A. Stewart of Savannah, Tenn.; his stepmother, Marsena Stewart and husband James Guffey of Cullman; two sisters, Melody Anne Stewart and Morgan Ashley Stewart, both of Cullman; two brothers, Tyler Andrew Stewart and Dustin Gray, both of Cullman; his grandparents, Norma Jean Wrenn of Cullman and Allen and Doris Stewart of Savannah, Tenn.; his aunts and uncles, Greg and Terri Wrenn of Cullman and Scott and Deneyse Marshall and Shawn Lowder, all of Savannah, Tenn.; and a special friend, Jodi Leverett of Cullman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the building fund designated for youth and youth programs at St. Andrews United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Campbell, Brandon Drake, Walt Drake, James Finch, Brandon Greenhaw, Shane Jacobs, Adam Madison and Jason Veres. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Griffin, A.J. Lamar, Mike Cupp and Dafford Smith.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.
