Mattie Sue 'Granny' Johnson

Funeral services for Mattie Sue "Granny" Johnson, 76, of Vinemont will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Cathedral of Praise Church of God, Jerry Fleming officiating, with Burial in Cross Roads Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson died Thursday, March 3 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. She was born April 7, 1928, in Madison County to Horace and Mattie Branch Jolley. She was a member of Cathedral Praise Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Fred William Johnson.

Survivors include a son, Byron (Annette) Johnson of Vinemont; three daughters, Kathy Johnson, Annie Sue (Tommy) Bailey, both of Cullman, and Debra (Jackie) Currington of Vinemont; a brother, Bud Junior Jolley; a sister, Irene Jolley; eight grandchildren, Ricky Allen Johnson, Christy Lorraine Johnson, Hershel William Farr, Edward Hal Bailey, Sherrie Annette Schwan, Jackie William Currington, Scottie Allen Currington and Brian Shane Currington; and nine great-grandchildren, Abby Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Nathaniel Brown, Michael, Taylor, Patrick Allan Bright, Daniel Blake Tucker, Sidney Breanna Currington and Jackie Sawyer Currington.

Visitation was Friday.

Annie Belle Isom Garrison

Funeral services for Annie Bell Isom Garrison, 83, of Holly Pond, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Randy Buttram officiating. Burial will be in Holly Pond cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Garrison died Friday, March 4 in Cullman.

Clara B. Rider

Funeral services for Clara B. Rider, 100, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Hanceville Assembly of God, the Revs. Frank Butts and Buddy Perkins officiating, with Burial in Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rider died Thursday, March 3 in Hanceville. She was born in Tennessee on Jan. 29, 1905, to William Frank and Mary Etta Newcomb Bain.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 70 years, O.L. Rider; and two daughter, Erlene Rider Floyd and Eldred Rider Duke.

Survivors include two daughters, Genova Rider Brown of Birmingham and Jo Rider Adams of Hanceville; a son, W.J. Rider of Hanceville; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and special caregiver, Clarine Harris of Hanceville.

Visitation was Friday.

Kelly Dean Speake

Funeral services for Kelly Dean Speake, 45, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Roselawn Funeral Chapel, Allen Watkins officiating, with a private graveside service to be held at Aldridge Grove Cemetery.

Roselawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Speake died Wednesday, March 2 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Dec. 24, 1959, in Decatur to Hoyt Speake and Jacqueline Woodard Speake. He was a computer programmer and a landscaper.

Survivors include his mother, Jacqueline Speake of Decatur; his twin brother, Keith Speake of Decatur; his father, Hoyt Speake of Tuscaloosa; and his nephew, Alex Speake of Moulton.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Caroll M. Harris

Funeral arrangements for Caroll M. Harris, 73, of Doraville, Ga., are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.

Mr. Harris died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta.

Charles Edward Sandlin

Funeral services for Charles Edward Sandlin, 76, Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, Colin McKee officiating, with Burial in Hopewell Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sandlin died Monday, Dec. 27, in Hanceville. He was born in Morgan County on Dec. 14, 1928, to Gordon Ruel and Pearl Payne Sandlin. He was a member of the Alabama National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include two sons, Gordon and Sherri Sandlin of Cullman and Eddie and Hester Sandlin of Hanceville; three brothers, Jack Sandlin of White City, Billy Sandlin of Hanceville and Gerald Sandlin of Cullman; five grandchildren, Bridget and Jason Day of West Point, Dr. Rebecca and Joseph Dye of Hanceville, Jeanie and Mark Rhodes, Bethany Sandlin and Patrick Sandlin, all of Cullman; and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Day, Brice Wells, Evan Dye and Brooklynn Wells.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lottie M. Fulmer

Funeral services for Lottie M. Fulmer, 87, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at East Side Baptist Church, the Revs. Jimmy Taylor and Ken Allen officiating, with Burial in Bethsadia Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fulmer died Monday, Dec. 27, at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Oct. 28, 1917, to Curtis Columbus and Nancy Catherine Pace Hamby. She was a local businesswoman for over 30 years as a partner in the Fashion Shop. She was a life-long member of East Side Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School for young marrieds and seniors. She was a very special person, loved by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer Fulmer; and a daughter, Jeanette Fulmer Childers.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Allen) Sharp; five grandchildren, Kathy Childers, Charles (Cindy) Childers, Brian (Lynn) Sharp, Steve (Carmen) Childers and Brandon (Laura) Sharp; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Sharon Kay Federer

Memorial services for Sharon Kay Federer, 63, of Twin Falls, Idaho, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Rock Creek Community Church in Twin Falls, Dale Metzger officiating. A reception will follow the service.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Federer died Tuesday, Dec. 28, in Cullman. She was born Nov. 28, 1941, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Lester and Fae Trimble Naylor. She was a bookkeeper for Mike Burr Accounting.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, Greg (Sheila) Federer of Cullman; a daughter, Krista (Travis) Volk of Twin Falls; two granddaughters, Kendall Federer of Cullman and Sydney Kulhanek of Twin Falls; and three sisters, Carolin Hof, Lila Carpenter and DeAnn Bodenstab.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Childhood Cancer Campaign at 706 Aspenwood Lane, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301.

Betty Fay Baldwin

Funeral services for Betty Fay Baldwin, 51, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Cathedral Praise Church of God on Highway 157 West.

Mrs. Baldwin died Saturday, Dec. 25, at her residence.

Arlene Garrett Causey

Funeral services for Arlene Garrett Causey, 85, of the Oxmoor area of Jefferson County, passed away Dec. 25, 2004. Mrs. Causey was a member of the Dripping Springs Chapter of DAR, and a longtime member of Oakmont United Methodist Church in Homewood. She was a graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School and was retired from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. Causey.

She is survived by her son, Samuel J. (Jan) Causey of Trafford; a daughter, Lynn Causey of Jacksonville; and three grandchildren, Laurel, Jason and Samantha Causey.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Dec. 29, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Highway 150, Hoover, followed by a graveside service in Jefferson Memorial Gardens-South at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Parrish officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., 17th floor, Chicago, IL 60601.

Sara Bains Purnell Cvitan

Jan. 20, 1926 to Dec. 27, 2004

Sara Barns Pumell Cvitan, 78, of Huntsville died Monday, Dec. 27, at Marshall Medical Center near Albertville. She was born in Lebanon, Tenn. She lived at Momingside Assisted Living in Cullman for three years. Mrs. Cvitan was a member of D.A.R., Piedmont Homemakers Club, a lifetime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and various organizations there. She loved line dancing at the senior center and pool exercise at the aquatic center. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She embraced living and spread her joy with her precious hugs and her infectious laughter. Though her hair turned gray and her mind faded, her characteristic laughter never failed her.

Mrs. Cvitan was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Ruby Purnell; her husband, Carlo C. Cvitan, daughter, Charlotte Ann Cvitan; brothers, Sam Jr., Bill and Ralph Purnell; and sister, Dot Purnell Goldberg.

Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Cvitan of Huntsville and Cathy Clark and her husband, Greg; grandchildren, Sally, Andrew and Joey Clark, all of Cullman; sister, Patty Denton of Huntsville; brother, Johnny Purnell of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral mass will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Monsignor Michael Sexion, the Father Mike MacMahon and Father Marcus Voss officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Catholic charities.

Janice Harper Harris

Funeral services for Janice Harper Harris, 57, of Arley will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Steve Rodgers and Mike Waters officiating, with Burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Harris died Friday, March 4 at her residence. She was born Feb. 8, 1948 in Cullman County. She was a home health aid for ABC Home Health.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Robinson Harper.

Survivors include her father, Henry Arvil Harper; her brother, Paul D. (Paulette) Harper; and three nieces, Paula (Mike) Waters, Sherry (Bill) Farmer, DeAnna (Todd) Chiaranda.

Visitation was Monday.

Wille Doris Barker

Funeral services for Wille Doris Barker, 80, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Charles York officiating, with Burial in Duck River Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Barker died Sunday, March 6 at Hanceville Nursing Home.

Adrian Revace Pittman

Funeral services for Adrian Revace Pittman, 78, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Mt. Hope Baptist Church, Charles Johnson, Delbert Freeman and Patrick Cleghorn officiating, with Burial in the adjoining cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pittman died Sunday, March 6 at his residence. He was born in Cullman on April 19, 1926 to Carl G. and Vassie Sinyard Pittman. He was a member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church since childhood. He was retired from Wallace State Community College and was a partner with his father for 25 years in Pittman and Son Cotton Gin of Crane Hill. He was a member of the Alabama Education Association and had been a Mason since he was 21 years old.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lelton Pittman.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Speakman Pittman of Cullman; three daughters, Alice (Norm) Winkel of Kansas City, Mo., Sandra (Rick) Hudson of Cullman and Vickie (Rick) Hale of Chelsea; two sisters, Dwynell Speakman and Etna (Paul) Rigsby; seven grandchildren, Rod (Laurie) Winkel, Kim (Kevin) Scott, Kevin Winkel, Chris (Joanna) Hale, Carla (Jason) Dyer, Scott (Stephanie) Hudson and Andrea Hudson; and nine great-grandchildren, Haley Scott, Lauren Scott, Chandler Scott, Jordyn Scott, McKenna Hudson, Mallory Hudson, Haleigh Dyer, Josh Winkel and Morgan Winkel.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nora Ophelia Montgomery Sanford

Funeral services for Nora Ophelia Montgomery Sanford, 91, of Cullman will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Jimmy Baker and Junior Wolfe officiating, with Burial in Simcoe Methodist Church Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sanford died Monday, March 7 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Jan. 16, 1914, in Heard County, Ga., to Christopher Elijah and Texan Leola Hyatt Montgomery. She was a member of Oak Level Baptist Church and was a charter member of East Point Homemakers Club. She was always active in her church work and her community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 64 years, Arnold Wilson Sanford.

Survivors include four daughters, Delores Ann Sanford of Reno, Nev., Jimmie Lou (Roy) Abbott and Tommie (Ray) Riddle of Birmingham and Rebecca Sanford of Cullman; a son, Arnold Wendell (Barbara) Sanford of Cullman; eight grandchildren, Robin (Rich) Bridges of Ackworth, Ga., Patrick Carson of Washington, D.C., Sue Ann Miller of Palatine, Ill., Kimberly Ann Sanford of Atlanta, Ga., Arnold Warren Sanford of Greenville, S.C., Christopher (Kelly) Wilson of Birmingham, Jeff Riddle and Joey (Cindy) Riddle of Birmingham; three great-grandchildren, Bridie Bridges, Ali Carson and Stephen Riddle; a brother, Dorsey Montgomery of Franklin, Ga.; a half-brother, Charles E. Montgomery of Cullman; a niece, Phyllis Wegienka of Hogansville, Ga., and a nephew, Tyrone Montgomery of Hogansville, Ga.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
