Services for Ethel F. Hale, 87, of 524 S. Ledbetter St., Anniston will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory with Revs. Julie Turner and Wayne Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hale died Sunday at her home.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty Cline of Destin, Fla., Paulette Cline of Eastaboga, Julie Turner of Oxford and Peggy Lloyd of Coldwater; a sister, Florine Smith of Coldwater; seven grandchildren, Jack Cline Jr., Rickey L. Cline, Pam Spivey, Donald Cline, Perry Lloyd, Terry Lloyd and Gina Clark; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Donald Cline, Perry Lloyd, Jack Cline Jr., Terry Lloyd, Rickey Cline, John Clark and James Spivey. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hale was a native of Cleburne County and had lived in Calhoun County most of her life. She attended Prayer Connection Church and had worked as a nurse's aide at Anniston Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by a son, Roy L. "Buddy" Hale.

Services for Thomas Layton Horn, 65, of Talladega will be today at 4 p.m. at Talladega Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Parker officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens.

Mr. Horn died Sunday at Citizen's Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Horn of Talladega; four daughters, Stacy Wesley of Talladega, Kathy Hayes of Red Bank, Miss., Teresa Cheatham of Pell City and Sheila Lawson of Gardendale; a son, Jeff Horn of Talladega; a stepdaughter; five stepsons; a sister, Betty Jean Wheeler of Wilson, Wis.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Terry Tumlin, Lesley Horn, Kenneth Horn, Kurt Freeman, Jay Wesley, Donald Freeman, Brent Freeman and Max Freeman.

Mr. Horn was a native of Clay County and had lived in Talladega County most of his life. He was a retired automobile repairman and an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Horn and Enos Horn.

Services for Bertie Lou Keener Martin, 81, of Leesburg will be today at 1 p.m. at Cedar Hill Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery with Jordan Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Martin died Sunday at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden.

Survivors include a son, Michael Samuel Martin of Leesburg; two sisters, Johnnie Sue Phillips of Center Point and Mary George Dodd Guined of Leesburg; a sister-in-law, Hazel Keener of Buckley, Wash.; a brother, Howard Grogan Keener of Gainesville, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Warren Henry Potter of Gainesville; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Danny Dodd, Jeff Dodd, Kenny Dodd, Rick Barthelemy, Junior Brooks and Brandy Pierce.

Mrs. Martin was a native of Cherokee County and the daughter of the late John Albert and Susie Chestnut Keener. She was a retired office worker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Martin.

Services for Mona Sue Hicks Miller, 60, of 3882 U.S. Highway 78 East, Anniston will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Miller Funeral Home with Revs. Randy King and John Whetstone Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends 5-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Miller died Sunday at Medical Center East in Birmingham.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Kirk Miller of Oxford; a son, Bobby Keith "Peanut" Miller of Opelika; two daughters and their husbands, Lawana "Susie" and J. Roy Bennett of Oxford and Tammy Darlene and Grant Nichols of Griffin, Ga.; her mother, Pearley Mae Taliaferro Hicks; two brothers, Thermon Hicks of Pace, Fla. and Lathaniel Hicks of Southside; a sister, Virginia Greenwood of Saks; four grandchildren, Ericka Bennett, Brent Bennett, Jaron Bennett and Breeanna Miller; and a special friend, Heather "Heddy" Rae Bennett.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be nephews.

Mrs. Miller was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County and a member of Good Hope Delta Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Weldon Hicks.

Services for Bettie Reid Ponder, 84, of 585 Cecile Drive will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Brown and Kughn Memory Chapel with Revs. Bill Brown and Mike Owens officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ponder died Monday.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie S. "Pete" Ponder; two daughters and their husbands, Jeanelle Ponder Hammonds and Gene Brownie Hammonds of Alexandria and Wanda Ponder Birchfield and Billy Birchfield of Oxford; a son and his wife, Buddy and Syndi Ponder of Lincoln; a caregiver, Gayle Lane of Anniston; and six grandchildren, Greg Clark and Shawn Clark, both of Anniston, Cory Hammonds and Cassie Hammonds, both of Alexandria, Josh McDaniel of Irondale and Kaila McDaniel of Lincoln.

Pallbearers will be Greg Clark, Shawn Clark, Cory Hammonds, Josh McDaniel, Don Birchfield and Scott Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ponder had lived in Calhoun County all of her life and was a member of West Anniston Baptist Church. She was retired from Anniston Army Depot. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Leloa Reid; two sisters, Lass Hardy and Bessie Cantrell; and two brothers, James H. "Buddy" Reid and Oats Reid.

Memorial services for James Douglas Richey, 63, of Long Beach, formerly of Bynum, will be today at 11 a.m. at New Hope C.M.E. Church in Bynum with Rev. Merlene Lane officiating and Anniston Funeral Service in charge.

Mr. Richey died July 20 in Compton, Calif.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Richey of Compton; three daughters, Pamela Renee Richey, Phyllis Bernie Richey and Patricia Ann Richey, all of Compton; a sister, Bernice Miller of Bynum; two brothers, Orage Richey of Paramount, Calif. and Harvey Richey of Bynum; and two grandchildren, Paris Nicole Richey and James Patrick Richey.

Mr. Richey owned and operated a dry cleaning business and retired as a maintenance mechanic from Hughes Aircraft.

Services for Dueral Sims, 72, of 2157 Hinton Drive will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home with Ed Smith and Brooks Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens.

Mr. Sims died Sunday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Margarette Sue Shaw Sims; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles M. "Mike" Sims, Keith E. Sims and Sandra Sims; a brother, Leon Sims; three sisters, Betty Brooks, Bessie Sprayberry and Virginia Byrd; and three grandchildren, Tiffany Sims, Josh McKennzie and Jeremy McKennzie.

Pallbearers will be Doug Brooks, Ricky Sims, Ross Sims, Frank Sims and Bobby Sprayberry.

Mr. Sims was a member of the Oxford Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Lee and Pearl Veleria Sims.

Services for Mildred F. Smith, 84, of Gardendale will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Chapel. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-8 tonight and one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith died Saturday.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ann Smith of Mountain Brook and Brenda S. Stedham of Anniston; a son, Robert Smith of Alabaster; a sister, Doreen McCreless of Odessa, Texas; a brother, Grady Ferguson of Tyler, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Smith of Alabaster; a son-in-law, Mike Stedham of Anniston; four sisters-in-law, Lucille Darnell and Dorothy Smith, both of Center Point, Johnnie Ferguson of Ferriday, La. and Audrey Ferguson of Tyler; a brother-in-law, Truman McCreless of Odessa; and four grandchildren, Jenny Stedham and Kate Stedham, both of Anniston, and Dallas Smith and Rachel Smith, both of Alabaster.

Mrs. Smith was a native of Texas and a graduate of Scarritt College in Nashville, Tenn. She first worked as a legal secretary and later as a missionary. Along with her husband, the late Rev. James W. Smith, a United Methodist minister, she served at Methodist churches throughout north Alabama including Elkmont, Bridgeport, Sumiton, Dora, Clay, Belle Mina, Camp Hill, Red Bay, Alabaster, Cherokee, Inglenook, Falkville, St. James (Florence), Pratt City, Concord (Hueytown), Mt. Olive (Gardendale), and Shady Side.
The family requests memorials be made to Birmingham-Southern College, St. Vincent's Hospital or the United Methodist Committee on Relief (contributions can be made through any United Methodist church).

Services for Cornelia Y. Spencer, 86, of Alabaster will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Maple Grove Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will be in Maple Grove Mausoleum with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in charge.

Mrs. Spencer died Monday at Shelby Baptist Medical Center.

Survivors include a son and his wife, James E. and Donna Spencer of Birmingham; a daughter, Connie Anderson of Birmingham; a sister, Mary Butler of Las Vegas; five grandchildren, Andy Anderson, Spencer Anderson, Kelly Anderson, James Spencer Jr. and Angelia Livengood; and two great-grandchildren, Paige Livengood and Lila Anderson.

Mrs. Spencer was a native of Mississippi and had lived in Birmingham since 1943. She was a former member of Shades Mountain Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Spencer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Private family services for Dorothy R. "Dot" Alexander, 83, of Austin, formerly of Anniston, will be held at a later date with Cook-Walden Funeral Directors in charge.

Mrs. Alexander died Aug. 6.

Survivors include her husband Wayne Alexander of Austin; a son and his wife, J. Michael and Sheri Alexander of Dallas; a stepbrother, Harvey P. McClanahan of Anniston; and a grandchild, Katie Alexander.

Mrs. Alexander had lived in Austin since 1979, having lived in Terre Haute, Ind., Anniston, Texas City, Texas and St. Louis, Mo. She attended Indiana State University and was a member of the Kappa sorority. She was a pianist and organist who volunteered in local nursing homes. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church of Austin.

Graveside services for Helen Woodrow Dill, 75, of Clermont, formerly of Anniston, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Edwardsville Cemetery in Cleburne County with Rev. Arlin Ashley officiating and Talladega Funeral Home in charge. The family will receive friends 10 a.m. until noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dill died Wednesday at her home.

Survivors include a son, Douglas W. Dill of Lenexa, Va.; a daughter, Reba Ford of Blessing, Texas; her companion, James Gallett of Clermont; five sisters, Jewell Silcox of Groveland, Fla., Evelyn Pinson of Pell City, Teresa Dickson of Talladega and Karen King and Vickie Forrest, both of Anniston; six brothers, Thomas Woodrow, Richard Woodrow, Joe Woodrow and Mickey Woodrow, all of Anniston, Carles Woodrow of Jacksonville and Bobby Woodrow of Edwardsville, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and 55 nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Woodrow, James B. Silcox, Larry Bethune, Dennis Pinson, Eddie Ford and Jerry Woodrow.

Mrs. Dill was a native of Calhoun County and had lived in Clermont 15 years. She was retired waitress and a member of Celebration of Praise Church in Clermont.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Celebration of Praise Church.
